It's a trap.

At first it looks normal, even somewhat interesting if you're a fan of similar settings with OP protagonist, but a bit later you will realise how absurd and ridiculous this novel truly is.

To put it simply, plot contains planet-sized plot holes that are impossible to ignore even if you want to.

... more>> I'll describe some basic setting of this 'masterpiece' of a novel here without really spoilering anything to show how it looks.

  • Lets assume that the story starts at year X.
  • 50 years ago humanity waged war against demons, won and exiled them.
  • Like a true defeated 3rd rate villains demons promised that they will return before they ran away!
  • 30 years later is the moment MC's first life ended, demons returned and started their undercover shenanigans at about this time.
  • 20 years later since the moment of his death (and 50 years from year X) MC started his second life.
So far, so good.

You would expect that since not much time has past, humanity is ready to face demons again, right?

Especially since some people who faced the era of war are still alive and well, right, RIGHT?

Well yes, but actually no!

Here comes the kek!

  • In 50 years since the end of war, knowing that demons and monsters will return, humanity lost all knowledge related to them!
  • There are no books about them, victors didn't teach their successor anything either!
  • Now humans can't even identify a shitty goblin. No need to talk about demons like doppelganger.
  • Goblins are scary AF. People trembling!
Do you want to know author's excuse for this setting? Even if you don't, I will tell you!

The knowledge wasn't passed down cause monster can prepare countermeasures!

SUCH A BIG BRAIN THEORY!

In all honesty, I'm shocked too!

Yes! No need to even describe basic characteristics of demons and monster in the book, monsters will prepare for it! Before the demonic invasion, fcking goblins and orcs will definitely infiltrate human libraries and learn it all!

And then they will know that you know them! What a tragedy!

After this, in order to fool foolish humans, goblins will disguise themselves as cute elven maids and conquer the humans from within! Probably.

Take note that this is the most basic and crucial setting of this novel. I'm talking about the loss of knowledge, not goblins disguised as elven maids.

There are much more plot holes in this novel, some of them are just as ridiculous. Even if you turn off your brain it's still not possible to ignore something so illogical. <<less

The writing is quite soporific. The MC is fixated on not having any talent, even when he is in a completely different body. He will remind you about how untalented he is at least a few times per chapter, just in case you forget. The characters don't have much personality and aren't particularly interesting.

The characters' behaviors are inconsistent with their ages. The MC is ten after regaining memories of his former life, but it is expected for him to act much older to match his mental age. The kid who... more>> bullies him early on acts like a stuck-up teenager, but he is only be seven years old since he was born three years after the MC. Why does a seven-year-old have the ability to command his two adult guards to kill the MC? He also drinks alcohol a lot, which is not too unusual for the era it takes place in (water being unsafe and all), but still... The MC begins training the little sister, who should at most be around six years old. She acts much older.

The MC spent his first life single without a family or romance, but he spontaneously has a child and grandchildren later on.

... It feels like the author just forgets what he/she's written before and accidentally writes in contradictions.

Everything is bland. It could improve later on, but the quality is quite weak at the beginning of this series. <<less

Still early in but it seems pretty good. Like how the MC has a down to earth personality, but is not a push over. Also no hesitation when fighting girls is always a plus.

It's not really a spoiler but I missed it when it was explained how he lived his life. The MC 100% has no talent. That was a fact in his last life, but I overlooked that he had a mountain of combat experience that came with his job. He was never a hero, but he survived many battles. So he is a no talent swordsman who worked religiously hard and also has top class combat experience, at least in the realm of mortals. He was likely the strongest normal warrior among those with no talent or divine blessing/opportunity.

And address some reviews about the inconsistent backstory of the MC... its true, but author tries to patch it up. He has no blood children but apparently adopted some. The father of the female lead and the elf royal guard captain. That in itself is fine, but author doesn't do a good job of introducing this. It's just thrown out there in a random chapter. Also doesn't lead to anything as MC doesn't have any interest in what his adopted children have been up to. Even the son he lives with in his second life. <<less

This novel feels like written by a teenager, and already ad ch13 is very inconsistent (author has to weak memory to remember 13 chapters?).
And it's again standard topic, just in poor execution - big conspiracy by demon race, to make humans less vigilant.

Characters are shallow, and strictly fallow standard stereotypes.

MC had meet and fought next to archmages and heroes in past, had part in dragon and demon lord subjugation, and is surprised by how powerful his aura is, says that is so inhuman and above everything he knows - just because it has enough power to destroy single tree WT...

A good KR novel. A fun read. The chapters are long and the pace is decently fast. Though kinda lacking on the foreground details and background setting for my taste. No info-dumps in sight as of yet. The MC is not edgy, anti-hero, unfeeling or anything. He's stoic and old, which I found somewhat new in these type of novels. KR MCs usually are aloof and distant. They're cool but right now I like this MC more. The only problem I can think of, as of now, is some of... more>> the information given are too ambigous and indirect. Maybe that's what the author wanted and can even be a plus to others but it definitely makes me confused.

Dude just said that his student's father is his son. It was also foreshadowed some chapters ago. Then later on, he said that his student's at an age that can be the same as his granddaughter. So he's your granddaughter right, why are you implying otherwise huh?? You better find your wife or some elf or some milf out there to justify that romance genre or I'll be disappointed in you.

Overall, there's still little chapters to work on. I just wanted to add a review and tell to people that if you found these while looking for something to read, go read it and there's a high chance you'll like it. <<less

The premise starts out interesting enough but already there are cracks in the story. It's an isekai where the protagonist is an ordinary person who gets reincarnated after a lifetime of perfecting his craft. He just likes practicing. It's honestly a pretty admirable back story for a main character in this genre. It's just unfortunate that all the characters don't really have the personality to do the story justice. The prologue makes out the protagonist to be an introverted and single-minded person who is devoted to his craft but what... more>> you get is a talkative teenager who won't shut up about how "untalented" he is. The other characters are just there to act as foils to showcase how super duper cool the main character is, blegh. It's still pretty early so hopefully the author manages to flesh things out more, it's a pretty building but there's not much inside it. <<less
