I don't think this story is for everyone, but I did like it, I would give 5 stars if not for a few faults, so let me describe what I liked about the story, and you see if it may be for you or not. Another important thing to note, up to chapter 296, the story is R-15, past that the story is R-18, this means that, from there on, the spicy content becomes more descriptive and daring, unlike before where it just ended up with X slept with Y,... more>> then resumes from the next morning. I do think that the plot became a bit stranger immediately after that though, which is the main reason I took out 1 star from my score. Some small examples of the strangeness.

Spoiler

A woman named "O (tsu) pain", so people make fun of her name being similar to Oppai (Tits). In another case, MC and his classmates go to a "Strip Theater", I won't say what happens, but there is even "the deed with a granny". So yeah, the author starts going a bit too far, but after these two moments of insanity, I think he went back to normal, as there are no more weird contents like this (Oppain does become a recurring waifu, but nobody makes fun of her name anymore).

[collapse]

If you read the manga, let me start by explaining that there are some differences between the webnovel and manga. At first I felt that the manga was a bit weird, with the novel being slower and more descriptive, the order of events is also different to some extent, but as the story progressed, I guess the manga is "making up" it's own things for the sake of character development, an example was the presence of an exclusive male character to create some jealousy between MC and Mary, the bakery owner.

So it's different, but is not all that bad, and I do admit I really like the manga's character design and art style, so I think both are great.

This is a story with little action, the MC has a cheat based on buying stuff from a magic electronic catalog, however, he is a commoner, meaning he has no money, and he was only able to turn into a cheat thanks to the villainess who is filthy rich.

At the same time, the story of the "otome game" is quite vague really, it's not a story that will result in a civil war, nor in some apocalypse, or some demon king or whatever, in fact, the Kingdom seems somewhat prosper, and even the Secret Services seems quite efficient and work like Ninjas (even with no magic available) and the characters on all sides are pretty mundane in their background, to explain why I use the term mundane, let me explain that, in this world of "Swords and Magic", you will basically see no Sword nor Magic...

Yes, there are monsters, but if you leave the city, you are more likely to face bandits rather than monsters. So it's pretty safe, and people (humans) who use magic? They are so rare that you could say any who do could get a job in the Government.

Spoiler

The Queen is basically the only significant sorcerer of the Kingdom. We get a 2nd one later, but only because she is trained by the Queen.

[collapse]

But we do have more magic mainly in the form of Fairies, who have their own rules and classes. What are Fairies? You could say they are something like "sacred" tokens...? To give an example, let's say that a large amount of people held an object in high regard as an object of luck, or that is sacred. This object would eventually become a Fairy.

This phenomena is not limited to Objects however, and the most common types of Fairies are "Store Fairies", essentially, a Fairy tied to a building, or more specifically, to the business of the building. You have a clothing store popular with people? A fairy can be born, enter a contract with the owner, and a weak, but efficient Fairy can start working for free in the Story, their wings are invisible to normal people, and they can't leave the building. And don't think they are all powerful, most of the are weak and couldn't protect themselves if there is a robbery.

There are higher levels of Fairies in this story, the 2nd class are stronger, and is represented in this story mainly through an Alraune, a plant based Fairy. And the highest class is essentially a "God", and by that I mean an incredibly powerful Fairy who is usually the source of faith in a country... But they can lose their powers if the religion starts dying, that sort of stuff.

So, what about MC's fighting powers? Nops, this is not a fighting story, and MC is mostly useless in a serious fight. And what abbout his Cheat? It is limited to products sold in the store he worked, this means that there are many products that are simply not available to buy, so no guns, no cars, although the store does seem to have quite a broad amount of utilities, including common technologies like computers.

Regarding the story, this is not a Kingdom Building, nor is it a "Hiding your power" type, much less a "I'm traveling the world and building my harem".

It is a slice of life, it could be more easily described as a romcom in isekai settings.

The MC is a part-time worker in a bakery owned by a MILF neighbor, and they are the closest thing to a family for him, so with the little money he gets, he is able to help her making better bread, which improves the store selling, and as thanks, she offers her body to him, which he willingly accepts.

On the other side, we have the school section, where the Otome Game rolls in.

The Game Heroine is a commoner, the Prince character is not the Crown Prince, but the 2nd Prince, and the other 2 capture targets are the son of the Knight Order Leader, and the son of a Cabinet Minister. The politics in this world are pretty convenient, but essentially, School is mandatory after a certain age, and so, nobles and commoners are forced to attend it together, with no distinction, so all the tropes of the Heroine being the sole commoner at school are avoided, considering MC is also there. But as said, even if the Heroine captures the Prince character, he doesn't become the future King, because he is the 2nd prince, that's why I say the characters are mundane, because the actions have little consequences.

There are some hidden settings revealed later by the "Fairy Goddess" of the country though.

And what about the villainess? Why does she bully the heroine? Is it another case of clich

misunderstanding? Is she just Evil? Is the prince her fianc

e or her Childhood Friend? Nothing like that.

The villainess knows that what she is doing is damaging her reputation, however, she is the 13th child of an important Duke, meaning, although she is loved as a daughter, there isn't much to her besides that, thus, having an age close to that of the 2nd Prince, and being able to meet the guy, she tried to approach the guy to raise her own value, however, the heroine took that chance from her, thus, she is a bit desperate in trying to get back to him. At the same time, for the heroine, the villainess is necessary, because it seems most flags are based on her being humiliated and protected by the capture target.

So, let's start by how the story starts:

MC and his sister died, but it was only for his sister to have gone through that, so the God gave MC an apology cheat so to speak, a tablet catalog that allows him to buy anything from the store he previously worked on, so long as he pays for it, of course.

MC then caught the villainess' attention through his actions (food), and the girl soon gives up on trying to approach the prince unnecessarily, since she was failing anyway, and having unique food is much more interesting, thus she surrounds MC who comes with new food stuff that she is eager to try. And this the villainess quits the villainess job.

Not only that, Villainess Follower A faces some bad family matters, and becomes one of the 2 main lovers of MC

Although most characters are females, and many are interested on MC, I found it surprising that MC actually has a pretty slow harem build up. The first two, the MILF and the fallen noble A are the only ones for a looooong time, and even after that, each new one takes many chapters to join in.

Spoiler

As an example, the villainess, who is the first to kiss him (in an accident), has her first time in the 80s (Due to events where she got a bit desperate), and the 2nd time came only after the 200s. Another waifu became his fiancee before the 100s, but he only "consummated" her much much later on

[collapse]

There are also many female characters that don't fall in love with him, and even one that tried to approach him, but she is a bit of a coward, and never went ahead.

Spoiler

And when she tried, she failed, but we find out later that a third party interfered. And this was for

"the sake of this world".

[collapse]

Another relevant character here is the Protagonist of the Otome Game, Rachel. By chapter 4 of the manga you already know who she is: It's the sister.

Rachel is basically the 2nd MC of the story. She is very close to her brother (And they are not blood related in this world, so it becomes a bit of a trend that even the waifus are jealous of her, yet, they never do anything) and to the waifus. She is the comedy relief along with the 4th wall breaker, as not only she is in charge of the special chapters, she is the one who teaches the waifus about things from the modern world, including jokes, surprising MC when he least expects.

In any case, my conclusion is that this is a nice light reading, the whole setting isn't very realistic and may be too convenient in some suspects, but so long as you take it as "the world literally based on a game", without going too seriously, it should be ok.

Don't expect much action, it's literally MC meeting girls, working, going to school, sleeping with the MILF who is essentially the main wife, and sometimes there will be an arc where something will happen, or he will go somewhere, maybe meet a new character, who may or may not cause new waifus to join the harem.

I saw the Netorare tag, and I can't really understand why? MC was never cheated on, however, there are girls that may have looked like "potential waifus", but did not get with him. Here is an example of possibly the 2nd most likely case for someone to have included the tag:

Spoiler

The case of Villainess Follower B, AKA Prim. MC may have the villainess herself, and Follower A (Carol), but Prim is not included, although she and MC are in good business terms, they are not romantically related, and she started dating someone else. Knowing how some people are, I wouldn't doubt such case to have made some "person" feel betrayed and led to the tag.

[collapse]

That's not to say there isn't another example that is more borderline (I'm limiting the spoiler here), but in the same way, that character never got officially romantically involved with MC, and due to events, she too started dating someone else.

Here is another thing that happens to the waifus/female character as the story progress:

Spoiler

When God gave MC his cheat, it seems he has a high amount of "Divine Power", this however doesn't mean he is powerful, but for Fairies, that is the best source of power, which is why he can make contracts with multiple Fairies (and high level ones to boot).

Besides that, it seems that other characters also start awakening new abilities due to their proximity with him...

  • Mary, the oldest of the group, has felt herself younger,
  • Catherine (her daugher, not a waifu), got magic potential,
  • Carol (Follower A) became hyper sensitive to smells, so similar to dogs, she can find anyone or even recognize disguises by the smell,
  • The sister but not waifu Rachel became incredibly fast in sewing clothes (her hobby) ;
  • The villainess Josette became hard to be detected, so she can walk in populated areas safely, but if she gets lost... It will be very hard to find her (Her bodyguards know it firsthand).
  • Her sister Ernette, a strong Swordswoman, became even stronger, essentially becoming a Sword Saint. (Don't expect her to fight much though, this is not an action story)
[collapse]

Here is a spoiler with the number of women romantically involved with him by Chapter 400 and 500.

Spoiler

MC has essentially 4 "official lovers" (including the first two: Mary and Carol, and just in case, Mary's daughter is not a target) (As en extra, this number was reached around Chapter 200, and no new fianc

e or "official lover" has appeared) and 3 fairies (With the exception of Store Fairies, who prosper alongside their Store, other fairies may require "external sources of Mana" to replenish themselves, if you know what I mean.), and although he has had s*x with people outside this "big family", it's very very rare.

By chapter 500, another woman joins, partially because she became involved with MC, and the rest because she was forced in by the noble daughter waifus, who plan on using her (lower noble), to make MC into a noble himself, so they can officially marry him.

[collapse]

TLDR: This is a slice of life romantic comedy (almost no action) in an isekai setting, and although MC is not OP, he has OPness by his side. <<less

It starts off OK to Good, but gets worse over time. The main issue is "why" things happen, because no one ever seems to have a motivation to act the way they act, they just do it because the author wants it to happen. This applies to villains, who casually escalate from "using money to suppress a smaller growing business" to "committing crimes that could damage national interests" in several cases for what should be minor gains. It also applies to the main character and his harem, and the ones... more>> who almost joined the harem but randomly decided to go after a side character who has shown no attractiveness (to the reader or to the girl). Solutions to problems are usually similarly deus ex machina style.

It's a little frustrating because it had a half-decent start, but I had to drop it completely after

Spoiler

several arcs where there were basically gods controlling people's behavior and memories for their own unstated purposes. That and the protagonist's behavior and feelings have gotten weirder as the story goes on, like he suddenly doesn't care about certain characters who have been around him for a long time even though he's gone out of his way to help them before. It became a situation where any relationship could change completely with a single sentence from the author...

I read the raw chapters up to 408.

Started good, but then it got weird starting around chapter 200. MC suddenly doesn't really care about other character that he care about in the beginning, and the said character also suddenly didn't care about MC and author didn't explain anything up to chapter 408. Things just got rushed without direction. The story quality deteriorated fast.

At the start the characterization was very good, but as I mentioned in the second paragraph, the characters suddenly become very weird.

Spoiler

Turned out all of it happened because some other being manipulated their feelings for convenient sake. Why that being did it? Because author wrote it that way! It's just mentioned that way. Just like that.

Unfortunately, this weird plot of some being manipulated their feelings ruined some relationships and repairing it will have author to pull some weird stunts, which I doubt will happen with how lazy the author can be.

[collapse]

Seems author want to write some grand plots or something but get lost in the middle of it and said: "f*ck it" and tossed the grand plots aside just like that and decided to continue to write the story like in the beginning. Thus resulted in this weird story and characterization. Things felt very disconnected and disjointed. The only way to save a bit of the story is to pull some Deus Ex Machina stunts.

Better read Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs if you want something with similar premise but with much more polished story, characters and plots. <<less

I'll give it 4 stars because the story could be excellent except the writing grammar is horrendous. It might just be a translation error, but I don't think so. The way it's written, the perspective jumps around from 1st person, to 3rd person, back to first person, and so on. It's confusing of the author doesn't know how to do it correctly.

love it, MC isnt op, besides fairies, low on overly fanasty setting, as author said, he writes laid back and on a whim, slow life style setting with also r18 and slow build up of harem is great, didnt and still dont get the bread first aspect but it seems to work as a main setting, except for late r18 dialouge, its a very good r18 novel where there is actual story, I would read the manga first just to get an idea but its not as good as the... more>> wn, (far from ok art, story bypasses alot of details) as translator said, manga art is so/so and alternative pics for characters is more what the wn describe and look like

edit: author seems to have cleaned up more in the 400's, was looking like it was gonna end, but seems to want to continue, I like how they explained the world setting with hanako's back story world revealing, also explained why otsu pine? O'toole? (Mtl snapfu) , to which the author albeit in short spurts wrote
Spoiler

the s*x scene with kent forced to visit her house, ended with s*x of course but author wrote either during or after s*x otsu could shoot power shots from her nips, never made any sense till recently when author threw hanako explained that kent to those around him depending on likeability would recieve some of his divine power and develop unique abilities, like carols smelling, etc
