Being born as an emperor may seem like a jackpot. There is only one person who could call themselves ‘Emperor’ in the Eastern Continent. He, who was born on this supreme seat, would not have a smooth sailing life.

The previous Emperor, his grandfather, and the person who should have succeeded the throne, his father, were assassinated by the aristocrats. The eighth emperor of Bungdalto, Carmine is a convenient puppet for the aristocrats, and a palanquin who can be killed at any time when no longer needed.

With the emperor not having received a proper education and the empire collapsing due to political strife among the nobility. The empire teeters on the brink of financial collapse, unable to deal with interventions by neighboring countries, and has no choice but to allow the independence of its frontier areas. The precarious state of the empire is clear to everyone.

It's a little difficult for me to rate because I haven't read a ton of novels like it - the protagonist has no cheat aside from memories from his old life (and he didn't specialize in anything super useful for being an emperor). Not a harem, he doesn't have amazingly great luck, he doesn't constantly surprise and amaze people by acting like a normal human being, it's definitely unusual for a JP novel.

The title and description say all you need to know about the novel - Born as an emperor,... more>> he wasn't educated so he could be treated as a puppet, but because he wants to live he struggles to compete with people who have been involved in politics their entire lives. If this interests you, read it. Otherwise... well, it's different from most novels here and probably worth a try anyway. <<less

Dropped.
Spoiler

The reason is simple, while the novel started quite well, then in chapter 43 the author for some reason brought another isekaishya, and MC immediately revealed himself. MC also revealed all his hidden cards and secret abilities. And then he let the other Earthling go away. In spite the latter came to assassinate MC. Not only that but MC also didn't ask the name of the Earthling or any of names of his collaborators.

While all the way up to this point MC was extremely secretive and cautious. Even MC's somewhat selfish infatuation with the damsel in high tower the author properly rationalized afterwards and wove into the plot without breaking the setting and characters.

With just one chapter the author managed to turn a promising light novel into a junk fanfic.

NB: Oh, have I mentioned in the same chapter author made MC declare crusade for the sake of suffrage?

Nuff said. To me this novel is just another piece of garbage. And considering how much material is there in terms of hours, days, months, and years worth of reading in light novels, I don't see myself wasting any more my life time on this bungle.

PS: I don't give any rating 'cos all the way to this point the novel wasn't so bad. Some people can surely eat it with gusto - no sarcasm or irony intended. So I can't rate it too low but also I can't rate it high either. Hence, no rating.

This totally doesn't feel like JP isekai (not that I like them anyway) it has no harem, no op cheat, no useless MC who is completely dependent on system yet thinks he is the op one, no miserable attitude (even though his situation is miserable), I think the chapter where he decides to become emperor could have been written with more emotions and empact since it was a big first turning point and character development for him, story so far is interesting and steady, lets see where it goes.

While originally interesting, it moves incredible slowly. The MC remains powerless and for all that he claims that he needs allies or power, he just waits for allies to come to him.

More over, his way of recruitment for people is... "i saved you, now you serve me" or "you tried to kill me and failed, now we are allies". There is no actual compelling reason for the servants he recruit to be loyal.

Love this novel. Very well written so far, the characters are fleshed out, especially the protag. The setting is actually good and the progression is quite decent. Give it a try.

The story upto chap 10 which I read is great. I love kingdom building and MC working hard to build power and starting from bottom as he is puppet emperor without having everything handled to him, so it covers all bases for me. Translation is awesome. I would have already gone for paid chapters if they had service like active translations.

MC' starts as a parnoid puss puppet, kinda annoying, but some chapters later he decides to yolo and take over control, slowly finding people he can trust and pulling strings to regain power.
Not much chapters yet but it's quite promising.

One major con I'd say is the description of magic system, or rather naming, reeks of chuuni, guessing either imaginary words or some foreign language. Makes stuff unnecessarily confusing.

The novel suffers from massive embellishment as the author either wants to confuse the reader with fantasy political titles or just needed some filler page.

Either way its quite a good story, the pacing is comfortable although the later chapters are pretty slow, a fun read overall.

The main issue I had is it's a waste. It's great that for once this isn't a jesus-sama kingdom building. He isn't super lucky. He's reasoning things out like those old school board games where you play as a king against other nations. The issue is that every second the world gets bigger and bigger and the actual people connection happens rarely. It's a massive amount of court intrigue style kingdom building so it feels like your constantly spinning wheels. So, my least favorite kingdom building.

I think the hardest thing... more>> for these kingdom building authors seems to be the human connection and the motivation. I don't even understand how a basic citizen of his country actually lives and I'm pretty far into this book. Not super deep but I have to feel like I'm saying someone. And if I didn't read the bonus "character dump prologue" id not understand much about why I should care.

It's a lot how spiderman always saves his street in the really good comics. He cares about his little world works within it and uses his power to save it. Some of the worst comic books for spiderman is when he's off trying to save "the world" because the world is so big we don't even care about it. It's too big of a concept as a whole to make us care about it right off the back. But slowly we do care about it within an arc if it's a good writer who sets it up right. We care about his street then we care about the city of new york then from there we care about the whole world and what's coming at us.

It could have worked in the same way for the author but it's like every second before we ever get to a point of understand and fear for what will happen next here's this big info dumb care now about random things that we don't get to see it's use. PErsonally, this could have been REALLY good but overall it's an ok read. But I didn't go deeper because I never saw a change. I wonder if this makes it to published light novel a editor might recommend certain changes that might make this more interesting. Bookworm read better as a lightnovel. I had issue with WN personally still masterfully written but the input of the light novel just felt like a better read. And I'm wonder if this book might be the case so I'm stepping back and dropping it for now and putting it in the wait and see. It's a good concept good rough but not enough moments of humanity. <<less
