Story of a boy, with such a really really deep characterictic for almost all characters in the world. Solid world building. Fresh story flow yet unpredicrable sometimes. Almost no s*upid character, or I can no one s*upid at all. Zero to Hero with unlimited potential growth. Deep thinking for all character, and every character have its own philosopy of life. OP yet not.

One of the best story that maybe cant be found anywhere.

Its not great nor its bad, its readable. My biggest problem with it is actually the character background

Spoiler

the character spent 10 years doing nothing but sleeping and was called "Deadbeat "? Its should be insane, crazy, zombie or something like that, he was not lazy he simply gave up on living. The loving family also seems ridiculous, which loving family watches a children spend a decade as if was dead?!

We often read "braindead" wuxia and "powercreep" korean novels to imagine, feel good, to satisfy ourself for things we can never do, the MC's there is near perfect, stronger, smarter than everyone. We love it, I love it, nobody hates dreaming good things.

But this novel is about growth. Reality hits MC's hard, he was lazy, older, and weaker than everyone his peers. This novel taught me, us, that late is better than never. With enough perseverance, you, me, us all can do it too, this we never thought we can... more>> do. Its all about repetition and growth. You grow not by defeating others first, but yourselves. <<less

I felt the urge to write this cause I was bothered a lot by the bad reviews. This novel is by far one of the best novel I've ever read. If you expect MC to be invincible out from the start, or you thought he'll growing stronger by beating monsters and such it's not like that. The premise behind the novel itself, more like watching a human struggle and finding their true meaning of life and purpose. MC grow stronger after meeting with new people, have memorable experience, learning life... more>> lesson, and use that as the foundation to grow stronger. You will be seeing how MC facing his inner emotion, fears, doubts and turn that into power. The side character beside MC is also great! They have so much development, they grow with MC, face a problems that readers may relates to and solve it very beautifully. I treat this novel as way a healing cause how the author describes MC and friends heart struggle is so admiring. It's like pushing yourself to be more braver and never gives up like MC. I suggest to read more and don't stop halfway, because I'll guarantee it's worth it. <<less

The MC doesn't have a goal, something for the readers to look forward to. Not even a forced goal outside of the itch he feels for swords. He just suddenly gets the weird dreams and then he starts doing stuff just because. There's not plot, no goal, no destination. Just a path, and he's just walking along.

The characters are the best part of these, namely the three other geniuses that isn't Irene. Because they actually had depth, had character, had complexity. That is until after the first arc.

Was actually enjoying... more>> it, despite everything, until the

ruined it for me.

You spent time building up the one year break to find his sword, the visit to Ilya, the relationship with his family, the return to the school, the monster subjugation, and then boom. F*ck you. It skips 5 years and just go f*ck yourself he's a sorcerer now.

Oh and five years later there's still the subjugation thing and the 5 year timeskip doesn't really matter that much outside of the main characters because the world revolves around him. Why? Coz f*ck you.

I have never commented on a novel, but in this one I see it necessary, because the score it has does not even do it justice, and there are many people who, apart from enjoying the reading, could change their lives. Because yes, it is a reading that speaks to your heart, it makes you reflect, and as a psychologist that I am, I must admit that in my opinion, it can be a therapeutic novel for many people or at least teach you and make you reflect on life... more>> in a very healthy way.

Warning: if you wonder why the score that many people have given it, it is because it is a novel with a very deep psychology behind it. If you are looking for something typical where people hide their traumas dreaming that they are the strongest people in the world or the most intelligent, this is not your novel, at that point I can understand the reviews that are there, I is that the novel is not about that, it is the story of a boy who overcomes a depression, which is spent his whole life in a bubble and how the characters he meets are teaching him things, It is not the typical epic fantasy novel, which has part, but it is not the focus, the focus of the story is an emotional journey, it is about life, about things that we all will live, about insecurity, about feeling lost, about relationships, about love, about falling and getting up, about finding your way, about not letting others guide your life... It talks about emotional and deep things and each character has something to contribute, each person that the protagonist knows, they all have their philosophy of life, their inner demons, and things to teach the protagonist and therefore teach you, because yes, it is not a fantasy story without more, it is a story with which you will learn, it will touch you emotionally, and if you are not prepared for it you will not like it, because the best thing about this novel is that each of the emotional points it presents are realistic and you will empathize with them, you will understand them and they will make you feel things and if you are lucky enough to rethink the way you live, because this book is a metaphor for life, if you are lucky enough to be open to it, you will learn and enjoy a lot, I think that's the best thing about the book, you learn about life and it makes you think about how you live because it makes you feel.

I hope you give it a chance not only for the author but for yourselves. Keep in mind that you are not going to find the typical story, it is a story with a lot of depth, and things like that need time, because it is slow, but you will not regret it.

Finally, does anyone know of similar novels in the sense that deal so well with life issues and mix it with such an attractive narrative? Thank you <<less

It feels like cheap Chinese martial novel with Jap flavor. Like there are no divine beasts and obsession for money.

MC basically gets da best teacher in his dreams. Then he goes to da best school where da best pupils are gathered. Though author a lot of time says that all of them are cream of the crop in school, they are still doing some brain dead mobish things. Then our MC trains the most among them and by incomprehensible, unexplained reasons gets powerups. Author doesn't even try to provide some viable explanation for powerups. The guy dreamed that he stopped being concerned about his mother's death and next day we can see young one punch man

I have been reading novels for over 4 years. I will say with utmost confidence that this novel, Reformation of the Deadbeat Noble, is one of the best, if not the best novel I have ever read. I am genuinely appalled that this has a rating of 3.9/5.0 because it deserves at least a 4.5/5.0 if not more. Let's start with the positives

Positive:
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT (Irene goes through soo much development that it feels like I've watched him grow up during the course of the book)
RELATABILITY: You can... more>> relate to the struggles that the characters go through
SIDE CHARACTERS: Each side character is fleshed out well. There are no 'filler' characters and I love it. The best part of it is that none of them are Mary Sues. They all feel emotions like jealousy and sadness like everyone even if they may be the most talented swordsman in the world.
PLOT: It's good, enough said

Negatives:
Genuinely, I cannot come up with any negatives off of the top of my head. I'm sure you can find some, but what I can say is that the positives outweigh the negatives by a long shot.

So please forgo the ratings and read the first 50 chapters. You will not be disappointed. <<less

The fact the translator choose to interpret the MC's name as Irene just makes this already boring novel terrible. Honestly, it might not have been so bad but for some reason the author thought going the idiotic school route filled with zero IQ/EQ people was the route just completely killed the only chances the novel had. Also, via the school route the MC's personality changes completely in the matter of a paragraph and the only explanation you get is a literal single sentence and that is suppose to make you... more>> think 'yeah that makes sense'. Then the MC's IQ goes into the super negative during his school phase along with literally EVERYONE else. After about half way through the MC goes full gary sue and everything just becomes pedantic. <<less

a weak sickley noble kid gets possesed? By some nobody swordsman with the will to swing his sword forever
the weak kid starts to get into swordsmanship, and is slowly becoming capable, and even hinted at that he's actually pretty fricking amazing
magical cat shows up and offers to teach the weak kid super magic, meanwhile the weak kid learns his family has been getting treated like sh*t cause he was weak and sick, this ENRAGES him to want to grow and be better, to defend his family for having... more>> to cover up for him. Immediately activates a magic spell and goes into a 5 f*ckING YEAR TRAINING arc. The weak and sickly noble kid swore to defend his land agaisnt monsters, swore to defend his family from slander and persecution, and IMMEDIATELY RUNS AWAY for a 5 f*ckING YEAR training arc
f*ck no
just no. Maybe I didnt describe it correctlly. Maybe the translator messed with the context. This was the most horribily done character assasination ive seen in a light novel. This boggles the mind, im done. I regret even so much as reading a single chapter of this shit <<less

Yeah its not for me, its a novel thats about hard work and change of posture, about improving yourself and so. Its an endless arc of being demeaned, training and proving others wrong.
I get whats the author intention is he wants to present us a hard working MC that went against all odds, but its a very frustrating story, when you start to see finaly a light in the tunnel for MC, then comes the author to put him in the middle of the tunnel again.

Story spoilers
... more>>

What made me stop was also the time skip, he awakens as someone with very strong magic and some incredible time magic at that, you start to think, ok thats cool he will get stronger and be a magic swordsman right? no.
His magical awakening is for a time chamber, he gets on it while sleeping and spent five years irl (100+ in the magical space) for training his sword skills.
All the development he had with friends, family, and his own position gets damaged because he disapeared, so making every progress so far almost negative.
You think well with that incredible tutor that he got and training more than anyone could live he would be the best or among the top of the world? not quite and not yet, he still has to train more and improve and is not even stronger than some of his teenager comrades even by training for 100+ years...
Well at least he has magic now that he awakened? No, his awakening was special one time use only, for that time chamber....

I've seen people in the comment section rating this book as tr*sh but tbh I loved this book. Its indeed lacking at many things but it gives a complete different vibe from all the books I've read till now. It fills you inspiration to strive towards your goal. No matter how lost you are, as long as you strive and work hard, you can overcome all the obstacles.

There's a lot of plotholes in it but if you don't mind these then it's a fine read. I've read the manhwa too... more>> and it's amazing too.

Overall, I would definitely recommend it. <<less

I was not someone who usually give a review in NU, but honestly reading the bad reviews of this novel is pissing me off so here we are.

First thing First, I will say that the people who rated this story as tr*sh are definitely idiotic people who can't seem to feel some empathy towards people who has depression.

Without spoiling too much:

The MC of this novel is someone who were traumatized and then depressed because of the death of his mother for 10 years, and this story is more or less... more>> about how he was trying to grow out of that depression, with all the problems and insecurities that he experienced due to how long he was depressed and how it effected his surroundings. So of course there would be many times where he's not confident, and of course there are times where people need to encourage him directly or where he saw other people and be encouraged by their way of life. Don't bother fictions, it was freaking something that happened in real life.

Honestly this story is a great coming of age story. Some parts may be frustating, but it was just like seeing a journey of life, seeing how the MC grew out of the box that he was in before. Those people that can't even understand the layered metaphors written in this novel maybe should just expand their view by reading more coming-of-age/life-lesson/kinda philosophical stories first. 😔🙂🙃 <<less

It's a SoL about learning to use the sword

There is no plot, character development or tone setting. Just moving from one training sequence to another. Honestly boring.

As someone who sufferes from depression this story really speaks to me. The author has really captured both the complete helplessness one feels, and the inability to do anything but hide from the world. At the same time the author has shown how when you come out of that state you never want to go back, and work harder than anyone to make up for the lost time.

I've read the manhwa version plus the novel and this isn't for me.

It doesn't really have a goal or anything that I can feel from it. MC too isn't remarkable and the reason why he took up the sword is shoddy at best and downright boring and useless at worst.

The main thing that makes me irritated is the lack of a goal by MC. Sure we see his friendship and growth but without a reason for his improvement other than a weird desire for swordsmanship MC feels empty like a... more>> husk. He doesn't have a great personality either so yeah. M dropping it.

The MC is a walking potato. The story don't have a direction and resorts too much in bullsh*t abstract explanations for making the MC OP but also weak.

Also it has a irritating timeskip.

The author abuse the time skip.

5 years old MC : his mother get killed in front of him he decided to escape reality by spending all his time sleeping he slept for 10 years without doing anything special.

15 years old :he trained for one year then went into a magical coma for 5 years.

... more>> So he is now 25 years old but with the life experience of 6 years old but overpowered.

I also I hate when he bad mouth the Swordsman in the dream, he the guy who wake him up helped him and give him power but all the MC care about is getting rid of him because he want be himself but who is the MC!? Can a person who spend 15 years sleeping out of 25 years have any character. <<less
