this is the mtl-er here---

I'm still ongoing reading the mtl, but I'm here to fight back against bad ratings!! I think this story is quite cute! I would put it under fluff! The female lead is a breath of fresh air, her cheerfulness and her spunk is really fun to watch and makes me smile! All the people who indulge her and love her, as well as her relationship with others is great fun to read!

to you who are considering... more>> reading this novel, read a bit of it, and then decide! Don't look the ratings, listen to me, this reviewer! There are some plot stuff, and build-up to it, but I mostly skip plot stuff, so don't ask me about it---ahahaha!

honestly, if this isn't your cup of tea, don't rate it badly! Just go away and read something else! Everyone has things they don't like, character tropes they don't like, that's fine--- but don't deter others from reading, after all, people have different tastes! <<less

I just want to let the people know who complain about "bad translation", Bable is an MTL site. They MTL the novels, and at some point someone goes through and corrects the grammar and the hard to understand phrases. Some novels are done quicker than others. This novel is not one of those that gets edited quickly.

I dont believe in just giving 5* cos you feel bad for the translator. Your 5* misled me a poor MTL-er who likes read chinese novels through multiple translation engines.

Tbh I love stories with kids for the most part. But the poor kid in this story is just plot filler so far and she hasnt put in any effort into 'mothering' her step kid. They just dont care at all about this childs wellbeing. She treats her brother better then her stepkid, and so does the ML. I feel so... more>> bad that the kid loves their dad so much.

I got fed up at the point where the kid is missing and the MC and ML using this time to flirt and have a good? Face slap with a female cannon fodder. YOU JUST LITERALLY LEFT THE BANQUET TO FIND YOUR KID BUT NOW YOUR BACK SHOWING OFF YOUR LOVE (which btw rapidly developed in like one night) And the kid isn't just used for their couple drama but also used to create drama for a side couple (which I can go on another rant about in another spoiler)

She acts like a spoiled kid and doesnt have the maturity of someone who was said to grow up in poverty or alone. Its crazy unrealistic in so many ways, it feels like the author is trying to match up with other transmigration stories, when like she could already use her existing abilities (such as ghosts, like theres gotta be some around the palace)

YOU CANT MAKE A HOT AIR BALLOON IN ONE AFTERNOON. Frick it was really something dumb. Also why does she know about these things??? Also its said shes a swimming athlete as well. Which could be more believable then knowing how to wipp up a hot air balloon out of thin air. No one tested stuff, just magically believed its possible. Then just put 2 important people into the basket and let it float away who knows where.

Another thing is that she has one female friend, however this friend got thrown into the drama/misunderstanding pit that the author decided to create. Making it so it looks like shes going to go against the MC in the future.

OK the first misunderstanding is kinda understandable. But it could of been talked out. BUT THIS MC IS NOT INTO COMMUNICATING. If you can see someone that you care about is not happy with you (especially when you've gone through a life threating event together (which lets be honest was caused by MC dumbness)), you will obviously ask whats wrong. BUT nope MC is like the honey badger. Not giving a S***

The you have the unnecessary misunderstanding, oh guy rejects ya in front of the banquet for someone else. But its cool, you dont like that guy. BUT THEN THE GUY YOU LIKE ALSO REJECTS YOU. Thats crushing. Said guy is worried about the missing kid so looks at MC (WHO BTW HASNT BEEN TOLD AND WATCHING DRAMA MAKING COMMENTS) Inside hes like "im not good enough for ur love, I need to do shit. Rn the guy who can help me is said to be looking for his kid but is actually met his first love and is having a chat on a bridge. So I'm the only one who can find this kid alive at this point"

Princess: *eyes begging dont say you love someone else* tell me whyy

Guy: *this kid is gonna be dead (idk if this is true cos I stopped reading) looks @ MC* I have someone I like.

Princess: *HE MUST LIKE MC GRRRRR*

*cough* I got really annoyed at that part. Well to summaries this story is not about being a stepmother, but more about how to act like a big baby in ancient times cos u know ya got the backing or something. Dont read if your looking for cute mother/child fluff. <<less

I read this on Pickup Novels so the translation is pretty good-- it's MTL but it's really readable and has been edited with care. So my low review is not because of the translation at all. Kudos to the translators for doing their best.

It's because this novel is a hot mess. We're given a precocious female lead who has the power to see/manipulate ghosts, but does very little with this power (at least as of ch. 36... I couldn't keep going). And then we get a whole slew of other... more>> characters that are either annoying or intriguing but you're given very little time to develop feelings for them. For example, the kid is cute and will obviously end up really liking the female lead at some point, but the story is so hung up on the female lead's shitty family and the s*upid drama there. I also thought that it would be a heartwarming story with the female lead taking care of the sickly male lead and bringing life to his wangfu but nope. It's like the author wanted to write a cute family story but ended up putting in way too much unnecessary dogblood and the result is just unsatisfying and frustrating.

I'm only at ch. 36 so the drama might settle down eventually, but I can't keep slogging through the annoying sequence of family does something s*upid, female lead runs in to yell lawlessly at them, nothing happens, family does something s*upid again.

Also-- I feel like this kind of unbothered, wild female lead could be attractive and great but to me, she comes off as unrealistic. She's supposed to be a dynamic girl unfettered by the setting's antiquated/traditional expectations for women, but she's just all over the place-- quick to anger, lazy, thrilled about her new kid and then totally ignoring the kid the next moment, completely rude and blind to their social customs. And somehow she just gets away with it all the time. I guess that's supposed to be funny but it was just cringey for me. <<less

Another passerby that tried to save this cute story from drowning. I just mtl-ed this novel, and it's pretty light read and cute strory.

Try mtl for a bit and don't get discouraged by the ratings.

Really enjoying this one. We have a spunky MC who seems a few bricks short of a load, but a lot of that is because she's a fish out of water. Her logic is outside of the common logic of the rest of the people around her. Luckily, she's reborn in the body of a young girl known for being outlandish when in the city and the palace. There are schemes abound and she seems to walk through them unknowingly.

Her body's original owner is engaged to a man who is... more>> doomed to die and has an unruly child that won't accept her. Now that she's in the body, she not only accepts the role but thinks it's great. This is a bit of a surprise to all. The ML is a typical non-expressive hero, but he gets shaken up by her at times and starts to smile and get angry, even to try and figure out how to give a gift to her.

I'm not sure if others are referring to Cha's Spoilerish Translations, but personally, I find their edits easy to read and they are not that different to the works of other translators. Maybe the other reviews are referring to another website?

EDIT: I've started to reread this today, Aug 2022, and I had to drop this at ch 25 because I couldn't stand the amount of pinyin in the translations. Maybe when I reviewed this back then in Feb 2021, it wasn't full of pinyin yet. I don't really remember. Anyway,... more>> it's the same reason why I avoid Dreams of Jianghu translations because it's just filled with pinyin.

I am satisfied that I gave this novel a try. MC is really scrupulous and brute. I especially like how she does not think much of the ML, at least for now. It's a pleasure to read that she does not care about ML at all (for now) and just covets his possessions. She dares to divorce him if ever he does something unsightly. It's a good read.

EDIT: I got around to rereading this webnovel and I'm not as amused by MC than back then when I first read this in Feb 2021. I found her speech and actions ostentatious in the first few chapters where the characters first meet each other. She transmigrated to an ancient setting, but she all she does is attract negative attention to herself by acting so outrageously. She bullied her husband's child, slapped the neice of the Empress Dowager, talked disrespectfully to the Emp Dow, and slapped the Mamas serving the Emp Dow. She only started to be amusing at around ch 23 or so but I had to drop this at ch 25 lol <<less

the novel so far has been entertaining and funny! Love the MC's reaction to when she found out that ML has a kid! It was pure gold!

translations needs lots of fixing tho, but I'm used to reading novels using MTL so this was easy for me to read.
