In his past life during the apocalypse, Jiang Nian was trapped in a basement, abandoned by his family when the zombie hordes came, and died tragically in the arms of his ex-boyfriend, Cheng Jing, who rushed in to save him.

When he opened his eyes again, Jiang Nian found himself reborn half a month before the apocalypse. Determined to survive, he shamelessly decided to rekindle things with his ex.

Step one: Borrow money from his ex to buy supplies—

Jiang Nian: “Cheng Jing, can you lend me some money?”

Cheng Jing: “Borrow money using your own name? I might as well kneel down for you!”

Jiang Nian: “Jing-ge, I was wrong…”

After getting back together, he comfortably clung to his now-boyfriend’s thigh and began his relaxed post-apocalyptic life.

Was initially turned off because the MC wanted to mu*der a traumatized 12 year old girl who was mind-controlled by her insane mother into kidnapping people the mother fed to her zombie father.

Had to drop the novel when the MC agrees to let the 12 year old girl be sentenced to a lifetime of painful experimentation (exactly like what killed the MC in his previous life) for her 'crimes' and everyone around him nods and agrees.

Morally deficient author writes braindead morally deficient characters.

I give it one star because the translator... more>> tried to make this p.o.s. Readable, but sorry, I value my braincells too much to continue. <<less

It reads like something written by a young teen.

Sentences are extremely short, conversations are never longer than one or two short sentences, even when the Zombie outbreak happens, people have nothing better to do than to tease ML for getting back together with MC, in a way you'd expect from highschoolers.

These people are all adults.

... more>> MC is horrible, not only weak and does very little without ML, he's probably meant to be cute/coquettish but comes off like a child trying to be cute to get what he wants.

Biggest gripe I have is that details constantly change, the writer seems to forget her own setup regularly.

Not really spoilers, all of it is already mentioned in the first three chapters.

MC left ML because he thought that would be better for him, 10 chapters later the writer claims he left him because of a bet.

Rain is toxic and turns you into a Zombie, going out is safe only in full protective gear - two chapters later ML goes out with his team. No mention of any protection.

Spoiler

One glaring flaw is when MC thinks back to his last life. He has purification abilities and his core was forcefully taken. Purification is pretty useless so MC was weak, but around chapter 2o-something, the writer suddenly claims MC developed other attributes when his core was ripped out, directly caused by the shock of having his core taken.

How does he know the core he no longer had gained new attributes? Makes zero sense, if the core is destroyed or taken the connection is gone and the person loses their abilities.

It's like the writer suddenly noticed that MC was completely useless and desperately tried to make him more interesting.

[collapse]

Characterisation is as flat as the details wonky, all characters have one trait that gets highlighted again and again, like the (currently) only female character who is defined solely by being strong.

ML is the typical dominating partner, always calm, always overpowered.

MC the cute pet that relies on ML for basically everything, etc.

Not recommended if you want a coherent story and interesting characters. <<less

It feels like the author wrote this book in response to another? Or maybe they just have really strong feelings on this one topic that kept showing up repeatedly and unnecessarily.

The way criminals are punished in an apocalyptic setting was brought up multiple times in weird ways.
Spoiler

The MC first died because he was experimented on and then left to be killed by zombies. But for some reason he's got no empathy for the girl they were in charge of going to post apocalyptic juvie where people are never seen again bc they're used for experiments. And he really wanted to kill that girl initially bc her mom used her to kill a ton of people to feed her zombie husband/dad. And he saw her as a criminal with no saving.

That whole plot point was weird?? But ok. I got the point that the author doesn't care if its an apocalyptic or not criminals will get punished in the harshest manner possible. Considering the lawless nature of an apocalypse, I thought that was interesting to focus on.

I rated it low since it wasn't a fun read. The characters are a little flat. The MC just stays home all day. There's not much relationship development between the main couple. It went from broken up to old married couple in less than a week I think.

➺ 3.75/5?

Rebirth + apocalypse has always been a fun reading experience for me and this one isn't an exception. This might be my favorite in that specific sub-genre that I've read so far, whether in terms of the plot and the characters. The morality in human being tested is one of the core topic in this kind of stories, and I loved that the MC, the ML and their whole team aren't people with forced righteousness and hero complex. They also wouldn't let anyone guilt trip them in the name... more>> of morality and end up being backstabbed by the people they help. They fend for themselves and usually avoid trouble if necessary. They might helped people out of kindness but they wouldn't go out of their way to sacrifice their safety for others. People with that kind of attitude, neither heartless nor saint, is the best perspective to follow in this kind of setting.

This focused more on the human interaction after apocalypse, whether the good side or the bad side, rather than the fight against the zombies itself. Zombies are mostly backdrop but the stakes are as high as any other apocalypse stories. The team has an edge though since MC is reborn and they have more advantages than most people.

Thoroughly had a great time reading this one. <<less

This has potential but falls very short of reaching it. This is supposed to be an apocalyptic novel but it except for an occasional mention of zombies and a reminder that it’s in the apocalypse it really does not seem to be so. The apocalypse happened yet they all live peacefully where there are absolutely no struggles for anyone except the very very ordinary (poor). Every chapter starts with ML/MC “eating” and ends with it, with absolutely noting of interest happening in between. It’s also so strange how MC is... more>> so knowledgeable and knows all the happenings from his first life when he spend most of it locked up. For your own sanity skip this. <<less

Its pretty nice read, its not focused as much on action as the MC is usually at home which I kinda hate but also kind of like.

Because this rebirth zombie apocalypse type of stories usually the MC hoards and then is proactive and always fights zombies and theres not much time shown of them relaxing and enjoying their hoard, with the MC in this story its different with them actually using and running out of stuff in their hoard.

Though this makes it so that theres not much action, but its... more>> also not the MC's fault as they actually want to fight zombies but the ML is a bit too overprotective over the MC. <<less

I am so glad that the MC was not a saint. He only worked with others if there was a beneficial relationship and he didn't try to save anyone. The story was also very heavy, delving into the ugly side of humanity which worked well with the setting and did not feel out of place or feel like it went to far. I also enjoyed that the ML was whipped for the MC and was possessive but reeled it in. The ML didn't over shadow the MC at all and... more>> the MC definitely was able to handle life on his own. I'm glad that there were side ships with the supporting characters and I liked how most of them were fleshed out.

The revenge

Spoiler

I am so glad that the MC actually got revenge on his family and the revenge, although graphic was very satisfying.

The ending

Spoiler

I wished we could have seen just a little bit about the world rebuilding itself after everything had happened but it was a solid ending.

Here are some of my thoughts while thinking about it so much and reading the reviews too hehe :3

1. I like this read. Because it's been a while that I read over 200+ chapters (I dunno why there is constantly fewer chapters in every novel that I read).

2. I actually want to give it a 5 but changed my mind as I read the feedback here that small 'wonders' are valid to fully critique a story.

3. One of my wonders was, what's the point of making 'some' people remember... more>> the past and never giving us a plot in that part. This is like a typical authors on those Transmigrated Cannon fodder novels where they give tons of golden finger to main characters and then don't give a sht on others.

4. I personally now have a many holes that I can't just ignore after thinking too much on it but seriously OP's are just my thing sooo.

5. If you are into OP's like me this is for you twin! <<less
