MC suffered so much in his first life, it’s like he fully deserves his rebirth to get a second chance at life! The first part made me cry loads, the author fully described each character’s emotions well.
the side character “girl who transmigrated into - I don’t know what’s the point of having her in the story, feels like it could have developed & tied in better.

i like that the other side character stories was interesting & well developed, and in the second half it was heart warming to read... more>> about MC’s growing true friends circle & family. Especially after the heartbreaking start.

the ending, the big reveal of who was responsible for the MC’s family’s downfall & eventual death - that was a bit anti climatic.. <<less

Readable, but this story look like clown fiesta to me.

Guilty gg? Ofcourse yes, who if not him? He got what deserved. Guilty only he alone, and loving family just the victims? They gave him all! Ha ha ofcourse not! What a joke. They too group of s*upid bastards, who spoil him rotten because they feel like it. People wont become smart with flowing of time, they learn from events what happened during the flow of time. What they expected? Divine revelation struck him from the sky and he become good... more>> after? Haha! Most hilarious part, that's what happened. Thus in my conclusion this story about clowns dancing together.

And about those people who said like: - "oh no! After such misfortunes he wouldn't behave this way!" Don't think you know all people in the world, to say nobody will be like this, you think too high of yourself.

about errors in the text, english my second language, so whatever. <<less

As I’ve read tragic-past and reincarnation type of novel so far, this one is the best of the best. It’s so realistic. Even though the MC did got a second chance and lived his good-past life again, but his past which traumatized him was still there. It wasn’t erased or take on lightly like some other novel, it was taken care of carefully and in details that couldn’t be described any better.

While the family youngest-son-cons things going on, the MC was struggling with his own emotions and toke on those... more>> feeling this time as to cherish it and savior it. I really love this MC. Although on some reviews said about their dramatic situation is an unimportant-situation, I think it looks fine to me. It have a satisfaction feelings to it. Or maybe I haven’t read to that point yet? Anyway, I’ll update after new chapter is out. <<less

If you want to turn off your brain and watch a soap opera, this novel would be just right~

It's also a bit of a wish-fulfillment read. It's good for escapism, because the MC is really quite doted on and mostly liked by many people. There's a sense of security there, but most readers probably know it's not really realistic. There's a lot of irrational, illogical, unrealistic things in this novel. Thankfully, that wasn't what I read the novel for, since I'm not ready for deep, comprehensive plot, realistic characters, etc.... more>> So I like this novel in particular. Won't reread it but it gave what I needed.

Honestly, I didn't really like the premise of MC's sister and ML getting engaged because I mostly want to read the fantastical 1v1 HE fairy-tale love story where the angst would only arise from mutual pining and no other entanglements. BUT thank goodness this novel has HAPPY ENDINGS ALL AROUND~ Super happy for the successful pairings of all the siblings and even the side characters. So it's just right for me.

The drama and angst are spaced evenly throughout the novel without being too frustrating on my end because they get solved pretty quickly. Sometimes you might notice some OOC things but who cares at this point if it's a braindead read.

I won't recommend this novel for people who appreciate more grounded, realistic or logical reads, or if you're in a particularly cynical perspective, you might not enjoy it at all.

But if you like the up-and-down rollercoaster of emotions with no strings attached and a satisfying enough ending for your characters, absolutely read this~ <<less

I think the translations are pretty well done, but some of the notes on consent are very long and condescending. Combined with slightly repetitive storytelling (the translator did their best, but it still came through), I found myself losing interest after the requisite angst and misunderstanding.

I actually thought the pampering was very cute and the overpowered face slapping oddly satisfying. I loved how the Mc's rebirth teaches him to be more mature and empathetic of others. It feels like there's real character growth, and much more realistic than the rebirth... more>> stories where the person suddenly becomes irrationally smarter than they used to be. As the MC acknowledges, he has the same intelligence as always, just with some minor fore-knowledge and greater appreciation for his former life.

However, the story dragged a little and even the final mystery couldn't keep me interested.

I think the author just didn't have a good grasp of the pacing or when to quit. Otherwise, this could have been a 4 or 5 star novel for me. <<less

An interesting approach to a rebirth story.

As much as I enjoyed reading this book, I have to say that it is a difficult one to recommend due to its dark themes. Still, I'm gonna have to give this one an 'average' rating.

The first half of the book was easy to get through. I literally read until chapter 120+ in one sitting, that's how interesting it was. Though, admittedly, the first 100 hundred chapters were shorter compared to later chapters.

I really liked how trauma is explored in the book. Unlike other... more>> rebirth genres that I have read where MC magically magically grows OP due to their "knowledge of the future" without any signs of trauma from the hell that they went through, the trauma of MC in this book is explored. I wouldn't say thoroughly or accurately since I am not an expect in mental health. However, it's nice to have a plot in which the MC's trauma is explored and continuously affect his choices.

Moreover, MC does not suddenly becomes smart or powerful just because he's reborn. He's still the same old MC, only this time he can make better choices because he has known and experienced firsthand the consequences of his bad choices. I find that a refreshing change compared to other books of similar genre.

Now to explore the not-so good part of the book.

By reading danmei, I have to accept that their worldviews and values and culture are different from what we're exposed to in western culture. There's plenty in this book, infantilization of gay man, non-con/dub-con, on the top of my head, I'm not saying that they're 100% right or correct, for that matter. I'm just saying that if you think that danmeis are problematic, then you should probably stop reading it and find something else that suits your taste better.

Moreover, this is all fiction. As long as we understand that there are boundaries on what is wrong and right in the real world, there's nothing wrong in indulging in fantasies every once in a while. Also, fiction is the worst place to be practicing your moral compass on.

The main reason I'm giving 3-star rating to this book is because of these issues:

1. Writing Style

There is an issue with the "show, not tell" in author's story writing. Often times, I feel like I'm reading a wall text of info dump that the author could have just explained better by setting scenes and actions. The dialogues of each characters are often paragraphs long and it feels like they are narrating the whole story. It makes for a bad story telling technique to be honest.

2. Irrelevant Sub-plots

Too many irrelevant sub-plots. Maybe the author wanted to do worldbuilding, maybe the author wanted to give focus not only on MC and ML. I don't know. Either way, I don't feel like her characters are well-fleshed out enough to make me invested in all the other side characters. Which brings us to:

3. Bland characters

Everybody is either in love or loves MC so much, except for the antagonists, of course. But more often that not, the antagonist is psychotic or need to get some serious help. There's nothing wrong with loving the MC, of course. He's the protagonist, after all. But since there are so many characters, I'd hoped that there are some nuance to each character. But they're all just... flat. Especially the ML. <<less

I would give it maybe 4 if the voting system here was comprehensive - but its not, so we need to raise the rating. It ain't perfect but it's way better than anything I've read here that has less than 4 stars.

The beginning was better - I really liked it that the MC didn't just shrug off horrible trauma. It could've been handled better, true, but this degree of realism when it comes to mental illness is already rare in these kind of stories. Later, it turned into stories about... more>> hundred sidecouples, and though it was nice in a way, it got a bit predictable. It was kinda annoying how every single character was gay - like, every male character found himself a boyfriend (with like one exemption).

But all in all, it was quite okay. It ain't the best story, but way better than the rating suggests. <<less

The story was good. Just good. The translations are really good in quality and I love that the translator put his or her thoughts about the story and advised the readers certain things that should not be followed or copied in real life.

The only thing actually good is the translation. Last week I read a good novel with a poor translation, this one is a poor novel with a good translation.

I don't like to write reviews to discourage people in reading a novel, but this one was very tiring.

I didn't feel anything, I didn't feel triggered nor did I care about the characters (actually the side characters and their stories are much more appealing than the main story).

This novel felt like those old school dog blood dramas with the misunderstandings, long paragraphs... more>> with repeated information, tell don't show, and all sort of cringe reactions. The characters are so immature that's funny, after a few chapters I couldn't take anything serious.

This novel is ideal for those who miss some over the top-old school-soap opera like drama and finds funny in characters spouting nonsense with a straight face.

Any resemblance between this novel and reality is not resemblance is myopia. <<less

I started to read it but found it really slow so decided to read the reviews and found out that the misunderstandings and slowness drag even further so I decided to drop. I don't like the style of how it's written also, repetitive information.. I don't know, just not my cup of tea.

This had soooooo much potential. I was very excited and waited until it was finished before going into it. Nothings wrong with the translation, it was great. A couple things that led to its failure; plot was absolutely terrible and floaty writing style.

like I said before, the summary and over all idea of this story is great and has unbelievable potential but the execution was catastrophic. Nothing made much sense, there was almost no common sense. The author made the MC go through some horrific things and gave him a... more>> tragic past life as an excuse of the overwhelming Gary Stu. And not just the plot but the authors writing style is so in the clouds it makes the readers feel separated. I don’t know how to describe it but you feel like nothing in the story made sense, and as soon as you stop reading, it’s like you just had a dream. No emotions, nothing memorable. Characters have no sense of individuality, it’s almost as if it’s a three person play, the MC, people who like the MC, people who don’t like the MC. Characters who oppose the MC or his family automatically become the worst people in the world, as if they are absolutely unredeemable and are devils in human skin. And I’m talking everyone (rapists can burn in hell though), like business partners/rivals, enemies, or just normal people who don’t like mc’s personality.

what this seems to me is that it’s just the author’s fantasy, their imaginary world where everything and everyone revolves around them. I tried reading it, but it feels like a great waste of time, you can try it and you might like it, this is just my opinion. <<less

OK, so this novel- I absolutely adore it its really good, the story, the couples' dynamic, and the characters in general, love them. BUT, I do have some problems; first off, Bai Yihan and JingYuan, yes, they're a really cute couple, but I find it kind of disturbing how Yihan literally cannot function without JingYuan's love and affection, yes some might call it sweet and affectionate, but come on, like have some sense of self-importance for once, AND the fact that in chapter 168,

Spoiler

it is revealed that Jingyuan actually intentionally made himself sick because he knows the Yihan would be guilty about it and feel soft for him about everything and ksjcgdsj just something about it irks me.

BUT! All in all, plot development yes, so good. Family members are so cute and the side couples are amazing and ugh. Anyways yeah I recommend reading this novel, the translator/s did an amazing job 10/10 for the translation.

also warning: LOTS of dogfood so prepare to be fed.

Trigger warning for those who want to be cautious in reading this novel: su*cide attempts, r*pe attempts, age gap, discussion of r*pe, actual r*pe, mentally problematic characters, car crash, kidnapping, prostitution (?), depression, and dub-con/non-con.

Anyways that's all, this is my first proper review so yeah <<less

The story's good and the translator did a marvellous job.

However, the reason why I'm giving this four stars is that chapters are really too short. Chapter 40 was 661 words, and that's the usual length of a chapter in this story. They are all under 1k and it is a bit of a shame whenever there's an update but the story content in the chapter feels too short.

It's not the translator's fault, though. Personally, I would have posted bundles of chapters together to create a 'mega chapter', in groups of... more>> five chapters. That way each update has more content.

But the story itself is good so far. <<less

I have mixed opinions of this one. I like the MC, for the most part. His trauma is mostly portrayed well (it would have been nice if they'd portrayed his trauma in his intimate relations with ML... though not everyone has the same impact from trauma and it is possible that someone could have no issues with s*x even after that having happened to them, it feels more realistic to express at least a little difficulty there... especially when the ML is incredibly forceful and pushes on even when told... more>> to stop. That sort of insensitivity during s*x, even if it does seem to be portrayed as common in the culture, just seems like it would almost have to cause some sort of triggering).

There are a lot of things that are uncomfortable in the story and there are a lot of things that are well done and/or cute. The translator and translator comments were excellent. The ML was unlikeable.

And I just have to wonder... do male same-s*x relationships always have a permanent bottom and top? Don't at least some have more of a back and forth? Just seems weird to me. <<less

It's good if you just want to read some brainless angst in the beginning. Later one it barely has any angst and isn't really focused on the main couple anymore. Most villains in the story are fairly 2D and I really dislike how so many of the relationships are based on lies and deception.

It's well written tho and it's not too long since most of the chapters in the beginning are fairly short.

(I have a lot to say about GC as I wrote this as I was reading instead of afterwards when I would have already forgotten half of it.)

Spoiler

For most of the end of the novel, I felt like YiHan wasn't even the protagonist, YouRan sorta just turned into the protagonist.

Tao Qi really just saw a man with seemingly no interest or affection in women, whose only s*xual interaction with a woman was after being drugged, with no confession of love to the woman she assumed he loved, and his only romantic figure in his life was a deceased male and really thought 'totally straight. I, a female, could get him'?

Like the original Tao Qi wasn't the world's white lotus angel protagonist for this girl to end up overtaking her body. Reading her monologue chapters was the most straining part of this novel, and I actually had a lot of ease reading this despite my attention span.

The representation of bis**uality within GC is rather negative since He Yuan exists as the sole representation, although above all how, this is one of the first that have mentioned and acknowledged bis**uality and by name. Although it would have been better if a character was also mentioned even slightly to be bis**ual, even just within one sentence.

I spent several of the chapters before 204 wondering what was going on as it had started to feel like filler, everything that had started the book was nowhere to be found near the end, until they mentioned the fact that the mastermind behind the kidnapping was never found, which I had completely forgotten about. It was literally never mentioned.

With Yan Miao, I kinda wish that her characterization focused on her being an antithesis of Yihan as they had the same upbringing and slightly similar behaviours. Personally, instead of the villainization-almost mu*der of post 210 Yan Miao I wish instead they went down the route of spoilt child who never learns and the difference between YiHan who at least loved his family and was just naive and ignorant versus Miao who just felt nothing for her family, especially since they are both the youngest of three siblings with a doting father/grandfather who’s life could be at risk due to their actions.

Although, Yan Miao is an unredeemable character, I always think about their two children, young children just ignored who need proper parental affection and care to grow up properly, something they aren’t getting from their mother, and with He Yuan, I does consider redeemable in a ‘sense’, the fact that he actually thought about his parents’ and children’s safety and future. Also the sense that he couldn’t stop a treacherous end for YouRan without someone intervening first is bad, and that he harmed YouRan is horrible, but it is also acknowledged that he was forced to live with Yan Miao for several years without any real love and that he was not even willing to have s*x with YouRan because YouRan didn’t want it and that he, at the end, knew that it was for the better for YouRan to not be with him. Despite all that, It doesn’t excuse anything He Yuan has done, and never will, and his actions toward Miao after he locked her (and just locking her up in general) shouldn’t be downplayed.

It is also interesting that YouRan and Yan are the first explicitly switch couple (even though it was only implied that it might happen in the future, I can dream) I’ve seen. It makes sense, I personally just enjoy softer/smaller/meeker MCs and that translates into a bottom MC for most authors and readers.

My biggest question is whether or not JingYuan believed YiHan had a previous life? I thought he knew due to the circumstances of (Previous Female Lead Name) being able to recount the same scenarios, but he was surprised that a place YiHan said would profit, profited?

Hated the four-way marriage, nothing much to say.

Qi MingYang was kinda hot???

[collapse]

Also kinda hoping I'd be able to read those extras but can't find anywhere that translated them. <<less

After chapter 100, Reborn as a Good Child is a novel that goes FULL tell don't show.

Like - so much dialouge. Characters - literally all of them, all the time - start monologuing completely uninterupted for paragraphs. Half of it can be scrapped due to sheer repetition, and the other half due to unecessary explanations. I can't count how many times the phrase 'YiHan is JingYuan's reverse scale' throughout the 200+ chapters, and that just the one I can remember off the top of my head. What's worse is that... more>> there are no distinctions between speakers. If you cut out the names, you wouldn't be able to guess who the heck was talking because everyone has the same stilted, rhetorical and immature wording.

(Additionally, I don't understand why everyone had to be in a relationship? Even random side-characters get together to stuff the reader full of rotten dogfood. From the mob body-guards to a bar tender who fleetingly showed up in one or two chapters. The author makes romance out as the be-all end-all to happiness. There's only one person out there to make you happy, and if you miss them, your life will suck. Yeesh.)

Spoiler

When I say there's a lot of tell don't show going on, I mean that the MC LITERALLY started recapping how smart he was for figuring out something wrong was going on and coming to the rescue after a su*cide/mu*der attempt - seconds after it happened! Everything has to be explained in excruciating detail, no matter if it doesn't suit the occaison.

[collapse]

Usually I don't bash on a novel so hard, but the final chapters were really a slog to get through. What's so disappointing is that there's a promise of something better in the first few chapters -

Spoiler

Before we see how far the author will go to create contrived situations... like that engagement agreement between JingYuan and YiHan's sister...

[collapse]

I would have loved to read a novel that really discusses the effects of experiencing a brutal past life. Yes, time has refreshed and the MC is wiser for it, but their memories are stil there. And some of these MC's have faced torture, betrayal, mental illness - the effect of that stuff doesn't go away because they've been reborn. Or at least, it would be interesting to see how an MC attempts to resolve their past regrets while dealing with years worth of baggage. Instead of coasting smoothly with a golden finger and super-powered foresight.

(I have to mention it - the last half of the novel stops having anything to do with the main plot. The mystery behind the bad guy is almost completely forgotten in favor of introducing new characters - out of thin air! - and their romantic struggles. Almost 50+ chapters are all about the Yan family... who cares about them?? Isn't this story about YiHan and the Bai family????)

All in all, this novel was entertaining and made me smile even in the last quarter. This novel is kind of so-bad-it-turns-good-again in a weird kind of way.

I only rate based on my personal enjoyment, so 5 stars. <<less
