What was even more shocking than how Li Wei won the world’s highest prize in theoretical physics at such a young age of 35 years old was the fact that he was found dead at home due to committing su*cide the day before the award ceremony.

In his letter to his student Jackie, he wrote: I have only been doing one thing crazily all these years, and physics is all I have. On the day it ends, the darkness will completely engulf me.

Many years after graduation, Zhang Man saw a love letter in her physics book while sorting her things out. It was signed by Li Wei. After his su*cide, she couldn’t eat or sleep at night, until one day she woke up and found herself back at the age of sixteen.

–Later, Li Wei, who became a leader in the world of physics again, said in an interview with global media, “I survived because of two essential things in my life: physics and her. Physics gave me the ability to think rationally in the darkness, and she gave me my light.”

''Love is salvation''

This novel conveys such meaning throughout the whole story.

I felt sad when LiWei realized his illness. But when they got together after so much hardships, I felt so happy for them. Everything was so sweet. Their experiences and trials was worth it.

After reading, my heart is so full. This is one of the novels which made me realize that love is a beautiful emotion. Especially when it is used right. Their love for each other bloomed into an exceptional relationship. A very strong, stable, and life-long companionship. For LiWei, ZhangMan is his light and salvation from his dark world. But for ZhangMan, LiWei is her world. They are such a perfect couple it makes me jealous. This compatibility is rare and precious. I love this couple very much.

Although the first few chapters made me cry and teary-eyed while reading. The middle to last parts was worth it. It's like watching them journey on a rough road and seeing their smooth life after the bumpy ride. Everything is worth it. It just made the ending better.

I love the couple. I love the narration and the way the author described the emotions and feelings of the characters (and I was mtling it, imagine if it was properly translated. I would have ran out of tissues). I love how their every pain was worth it because they got the ending they deserve. I love how heartwarming their relationship is. I love everything!

If you like a rough journey but a wholesome ending which makes the ride worth it, then this novels is for you. I recommend it 10/10. <<less

I MTLed this novel until the end. It was very beautiful story about youth people, their love, struggle in studying, and solving problems. How we shouldn't give up of life. So far I really like this type of story. Its the same as "my husband has scholar syndrome" this kind of the ML has some illness that the society kind of despise, but there is a female lead who love ML just because he is. I very agree about the comments of "Love Is Salvation", because in the real life... more>> the one we love was the one that give us strong to face dificult problems. This review content a bit of spoiler about the true nature of our ML. Please read at your own risk. If you don't want to read the full review, all I want to say is this novel is very beautiful and detailed. It is realistic and although being a romance novel it does have its own beautifying view of certain problems, it does not make you feel exaggerated. You should read this when you want to find a story about healing with mature MC.

As a psychology graduate, I have to say that this novel succeed in describing and explaining to the readers about the extent of a mental illness, and how it affects the bearer AND the people around them. Personally, I agree of Zhang Man's approach to Li Wei after she is reborn. Li Wei's problem is very complex and involves many layers of society, but the real problem was that he is too lonely. Here we can see how loneliness can break a person, especially if it is experienced by someone who already has innate problem like Li Wei's inherited mental illness.

If you say that Zhang Man barge into Li Wei's life without delicacy, then I assume you don't have real knowledge about how to treat a mentally ill person as an equal. And that's okay, not many people know how. But in this case, Zhang Man already understood Li Wei's nature, and even though she never knew how real his illness was, she certainly does not shy away from it even a little bit. She is very brave, and there is not even a moment where she hesitated to face Li Wei's problem. She does not brush it as a momentary gap in memory and thoughts, she accepts it as it is and try to fix the problem that she even consults a psychiatrist for his sake.

I am still at chapter 28 and hopefully Zhang Man doesn't disappoint but so far, she took the best route she could to slowly introduce Li Wei to the outside world. To make him be acquainted with the real world so he can leave his comfort zone after more than 10 years of loneliness and distrust to human nature. What Li Wei need is assurance, assurance that a human can have unconditional love to him like what he craved from his mother. Li Wei needs someone to wake him up from his defense mechanism, and with his distrustful nature, if others were to approach him with too much cautiousness then he will perceive it as mere curiosity and fear. So the best way is to continuously remind him that he is needed, he exists and can affect other people, that he is not someone who is fine with being alone.

This deserves higher ratings!

Although the premise of a character getting to return to their high school years to undo the mistakes they made in the past isn’t anything new, the way this story was told was heartbreakingly beautiful.

Spoiler

The ML is such a tragic character. His family set up and childhood are incredibly sad. His mom died during childbirth. His dad committed su*cide because he felt like he was a danger to the world because he accidentally tried to kill the ML while suffering from a schizophrenic delusion. Then, when his grandfather found out that he inherited his dad’s schizophrenia, he abandoned him at an orphanage. Because the kids at orphanage knew he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, they bullied him ruthlessly to see if they could get a ride out of him. As a result of how lonely he felt, the ML ended up deluding himself into thinking he had a mother and friend (in the mtl they were named Janet and Nick, respectively). In the original timeline the misunderstandings caused by his belief that these people were real was what led the FL from distancing herself from him even though she had a crush on him. When he realized that these people weren’t real, he sunk into depression and eventually he committed su*cide.

When the FL found out the truth, she was devastated because she had never really moved on from him. Shortly after that she died in an accident and went back to just before they met. Knowing what she knew now, she decided to help him and finally be with him.

[collapse]

The ML and FL are really sweet together. It wasn’t easy for them to get together but they both deserve happiness. I cried at several points in the story alongside the characters because their characters were really fleshed out and the author does a great job at vividly describing their emotions.

Spoiler

When the ML found out that Janet and Nick were just figments of his imagination that he’s kept alive for over 10 years, his fear and despair made me sob. Then, when he decided to leave the FL to protect her from his outbreaks, I bawled again. His situation is just so sad because you know there isn’t much he can do about his situation.

[collapse]

That being said, this is a healing story over time his condition does improve. We even get a happy ending.

One of my favourites in this genre. Highly recommend!! <<less

Li Wei ah Li Wei, you deserve all the happiness and love you have right now instead of suffering alone the pain and torment that you went through in your first life! Truly glad Manman was given a second chance to heal and protect her other half of 2 lifetimes through her never-ending love and unlimited patience.

As for the the people who down voted this precious gem... please come out, I just wanna talk about life with y'all (^◡^) っ🔪

I can't read one more sentence of this. The FL comes off as clingy, cringe-y and annoying. She gets all in the ML's business once she is reborn and it's not even in a cute way but in an overbearing Mon kind of way (which is made especially weird by the fact that they should be strangers and mere acquaintances at this point). The FL jumps right in without giving ML (or readers) a chance to familiarise and get acquainted before she starts self righteously acting like his guard dog... more>> and mouthpiece. <<less

It's a very beautiful story. It's short and can be read in less than a day. The love between MC and ML is just so beautiful. Regarding what happened to ML's mental illness (see spoiler)

Spoiler

He does not become magically cured. He still has delusions from time to time, but he has learned how to ignore them. He knows that as long as MC is there for him, his delusions will not matter. Honestly, our MC also shows signs of mental illness. This is not said explicitly, but more on my judgment based on what was written about her approaches and mentality. She has paranoia about ML and she's very fearful of what may happen because of what she experienced in her previous life. It's heartwarming how their love allows both MC and ML to overcome their mental shadows.

Every single time I come across stories where mental illness is part of the plot, I really can't critique it too deeply because I personally don't know a lot about schizophrenia. With this story, I feel like his illness was romanticized in a way where their love "saved" him. I do like the fact though that it mentioned that he still went to therapy as regularly as he can.

However, plot wise - this was a good read. It made me root for the characters. And that ending really was too... more>> bittersweet. <<less

I read it mtl until the end.

The story is beautiful, although clumsy she definitely managed to help him through his mental illness.

Despite it being clumsy I believe the method she used when he found out about his mental illness and freaked out was definitely effective.

The ending is good but the final side story is heartbreaking for me.

Spoiler

She died 3 years before him and after she died he imagined that she's still alive and always took care of her.

Cooking breakfast and stayed by her side when she had a fever, his daughter was worried since she knew that her mother died and he was just having hallucination.

One month before he died he finally sobered and knew that he would soon come and see her. This part is too sad for me.

AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE OF A NOVEL.

Not much to say but except if you're into ML's that are broken and FL's being there to keep him grounded and be his shining light, then by all means give this novel a try! I became so emotional because the ML is just a precious cinnamon roll but his suffered man. Sigh.

I'm super angry at this novel and I cannot continue reading it.

Amazing concept I was super hyped about and I came from an amazing high of reading a much better novel that included similar themes.

However, in chapter 19 the doctor said to ignore and monitor the problem?! I'm sorry, but could the author not have googled it for 15 minutes? I understand that it's rebirth so maybe modern psychiatry may be a bit different but most psychology studies on schizophrenia are from the 90s and in no way will any... more>> doctor recommend this and it's actually pissed me off.

Imagine a novel informing you to do the literal worst thing you can for a person.

Just in case anyone is wondering- the MC should have been medicated to the extreme. Yes, there are cases of side effects, but doctors are there to monitor and adjust medications to suit individual needs.

I'm in no way an expert, but I sure as hell know this (personal research due to loved ones having major issues and some university education although not fully centred on psychology).

Okay rant over, abandoning this for my own mental health now. <<less

I'm only at chapter 13 and ran over here to review because one of the reviews struck me quite deep. The MC was described as clingy, cringe-y, self-righteous and annoying. But let's be clear that MC was a person who had a psychological shadow because of ML committing su*cide and she had nightmares for years. At this point, it's good enough for her not to go crazy. Yes, she was clingy and made some abrupt and assertive choices because she realized that she missed a lot of clues that were... more>> right in front of her in her previous life. She can only grope her way in trying to help him because at this point of time, MC being a high school student, had neither the power nor the capacity to make better plans for him. One of the ways the author represents her mental state is the way she panics and keeps fretting over the slightest things about him. So I can guarantee that our MC is in a poor mental state because the love of her life whom she secretly pined over for ten years literally committed su*cide and she got the chance to see him again. Expecting someone in her shoes to be restrained, gentle or whatever it is that a perfect reborn MC should be is very unrealistic. Most of the things stated here are revealed in chapter 1. So these are not spoilers. I feel that MC is a normal human being. She is not perfect. She is infatuated, yes. Clingy, yes. But that's because of her experiences. It's not like she was originally like that. Describing her in such a degrading way as a guard dog and mouthpiece was unnecessary in my view. Especially since she was trying so hard to integrate herself into his life in the least disruptive way possible and she didn't even confess to him. The progress of their relationship was rational. Even Li Wei (ML) felt MC was strangely persistent about him regarding some issues. MC was meant to be a little abrupt and clingy towards him at the beginning.

Spoiler

Like when she was insistent about him believing that she was sick and showed him the needle marks on her hands. ML felt that his belief was very important to her but he didn't know why.

[collapse]

It was written that way for the story to progress and there were rational reasons for that. She never went over the line though. The pacing and tone of the story is so good. It is a novel with a very poetic narrative style. I really liked it so far. I will update more later.

Update:

It was amazing. I cried so much. Their relationship was so amazing and moving. Again, the MC was truly so valiant for not caving in to fear when presented with the startling reality of ML's illness. It is not easy to persistently support someone who is dangerous and delusional. Even ML himself didn't believe in himself but MC had to pick up the broken pieces of him and make sure he was put together in a complete way. In doing so, she sometimes had to integrate herself into his distorted inner world. It is not easy to be someone's light. She was ML's world and the pressure that entails is not something that can be easily endured. So I find this MC to be an exceptional woman. I find these two characters so tragically poignant. ML was so pitiful but also so bright. Ah, the way he is described makes it easy for anyone to fall in love with him. He has such a pure passion for his field that it was exceedingly romantic. Mm, I have to repeatedly emphasize though that it has a really beautiful and mellow, poetic narrative style. I loved it. <<less

Spoiler

I really cried hard especially after reading the last extra😭😭. The fact that Li Wei relapsed and started to think that Zhang Man was alive even after her death (due to old age) showed how much he loved her. If that wasn’t enough, the author writing that he became sober a month before his death and knew that the girl he loved so much died while everyone thought that he was still imagining her was enough to make me cry a bucket.

I probably understand why some of you will dislike the FL since in the past life she easly believe the rumours and she hurt ML in hateful way.

But, she did not know he's trully sick. Then again, 16 yo and in 1st tl she probably didnt even know what mental health is or even names like schizophrenia. No joke, I only get to know what the hell is mental health when I was 15 since no education on it, and in my country mental sickness is a tabboo thingy which... more>> they will blamed you if you have a deppression it means you aint close to god lmao, maybe thats why it aint get talk so much since the one who has mental illness will get emberassed to even talked about it since people will judge them 'aint close enough to god'

And in 1st tl, FL did not have any obligation to take care of ML so, and they only dated for a while. Sure FL have some feelings but thats it.

Anw, I lover her. Despite her flaws, she really tried to keep ML alive, have purpose in life. When she showed him random things in the street I actually bawling my eyes.

And she actually seek medical help for him, she consult to a doctor and ask what she should do, first without him knowing since ML didnt even know he's sick and later she brought him to seek help. So she aint arrogantly pulled him out of darkness with just a smile 💀

As for ML. Agrghh my mans must have all the good things in the world.

Translation is nicely done 🏆

The story... is heart-wrenching. I shed lots of tears reading this.

FL has a lot of regrets in her 1st life, in which she was very unkind. She's introvert and doesn't really speak her mind. But she loves the ML deeply. ML... I have no words to describe. He's pitiful, sensitive, and a bit idiotic. But he's also very smart and romantic.

They both struggle to learn how to communicate properly. However, both of them are strong and steadfast once they have set their minds on something. So,... more>> together, they become braver..

Spoiler

My favourite part is the ending, where the daughter talks about the struggles she saw with her own eyes. It's tear-jerking but it shows that life isn't rainbow all the time.. there are rain and thunderstorm everytime before the rainbows show up~ 🌈

[collapse]

The way the author describes the ML's condition can also help the readers to understand a few major psychological disorders. It's not untreatable, but it requires a lifetime of effort... there is no medicine that can cure it.. and relapse are always lurking, waiting to be triggered.. thus, they just strive to get better every moment of every day..

In short, this story is a treasure~

"Love is salvation"
Spoiler

The story was like a mix of "Guide To Raising the Sick Villain" and "Devil's Warmth". What makes this more wonderful, was the emphasizing of the emotions, patience, love and despair of a person who has a mental illness and the girl who reborn in order to save the love of her life. I cried multiple times and even the ending made me cry. When Zhang Man died, 3 years before Li Wei died, its like a torture for him that's why his schizophrenia came back again. What makes it sad more for me was their children doesn't know how to helped him and Manman was the only person who was his light. When she died that 'light' disappeared also. Their love is pure and the only villain was his illness. Other supporting characters also has a bit of character which is in reality. As you read along the story, there was some bit of comedy and teamwork between characters. What I love the most was her patience and devotion. She search for Li Wei until she found him and told him not how much she love him or what condition or reasons to love him but told him how can she live if his gone.

I really really recommend this novel and I'm really grateful for the author and the translators for the job well done. Thank you.
