Rebirth of a Movie Star

Description

In his previous life Bai Lang was a small star. He rejected his boss and foolishly engaged in a relationship which he thought was true love.

He didn’t expect that he would get betrayed, die of a heart attack and trouble his boss to accompany him on his last journey.

After his rebirth, he decided to give up on true love. As for his boss… since he wants something then just let him have it.

So this little star after his rebirth collected his boss, and then it became a true love story with his boss.

In between there are good friends/love rivals/scum men in the mix. A sweet story with a happy ending.

I like the story. Their relationship isnt instant. At first people may think that it is like friends with benefits but it improves later on.

The ML's child is so cute and this little kid contributes a lot to the growth of their relationship.

The MC is so mature that even if he heard lots of negative comments regarding ML he communicates to him properly.

ML is also caring, protective and posessive lover.

There are some scenes I like.

Spoiler

ML's child talks about marriage and wants to marry MC. Its funny that ML got jealous.

MC was attending an awarding ceremony. When the announcement of best actor was revealed at the same time he receive a call that ML got an accident abroad. He left immediately without getting the award.

When MC was shooting the kissing scene ML came and got annoyed. He left and waited in MC's dressing room. MC went to him and apologizes. ML said he understand but still cant help getting angry about it. ML wants to kiss but MC refused. He said he need to wash his mouth. ML said it is to disinfect but MC said he doesnt want to pass the kiss to ML (indirect kiss lol both are posessive) at the end MC went out of the room with swollen lips haha

[collapse]

It is worth reading. I still follow the translation cause there are parts hard to understand thru MTL <<less

This is the first time I wish an antagonist (su quan) was the protagonist. Not that he's that outstanding but because he at least has a personality and good storyline. The main character is extremely boring, if you expect an interesting main character and nice romance then this is not your novel although it seems like this is all it has to offer at first sight. I'm reading this only because I have nothing better to do.

The main character is bland with a dry personality, the "unique quality" according to... more>> author is his mature aura but he's really not that mature for someone that had a rebirth, heart disease and betrayed.

Now, I've read my share of shitty novels but this one has made me speechless, I could stick around lazy typical plots but with the condition that the main character is somewhat likable, at least funny, smart or cunning, this one is just There.

As for the romance, the ML really had potential and I'm a little disappointed at the lack of communication with the MC, every time they talk, the ML interrupts what MC says with a kiss when he doesn't like it or vice versa and it's a really tired scene.

The only saving grace I guess is the son, he's a good boy, although there are many cringey scenes and the couple acts overly s*xual around a KID. Like, it's frustrating, the MC acts flustered and shy but doesn't put any effort into stopping or telling ML about it (they had s*x on the couch while the kid was sleeping in his room and could wake up any moment among other things like sleeping naked and/or making out when he's sleeping on the same bed).

Everything is spoken as a matter of fact, the friendships look painfully fake with the lack of described interactions (duh), many opportunities are thrown at the MC for no reason really. Not to mention there are sexist undertones. Haven't read a novel this bad that had me writing a negative review like this in a long time.

Giving it two stars and not one because it's an easy read thanks to the translators. <<less

I ABSOLUTELY adore this story. MC is a kind of person that makes you want to support him. After going through so much hardships in his past life, he developed to be a mature person. Rather than succumbing to the rabbit hole of revenge, he lives his second chance with hope and takes opportunities his way gratefully.

He is decisive and mature. I like how the story fleshes out the trauma of his past, showing how he has difficulty letting down his walls yet trying hard for the precious bonds he... more>> had found.

ML might seem overbearing at first, but that changes reasonably. MC treats their relationship as a transaction between mature adults, and as such, does not expect or want to bbe spoiled or treated as a lover, which is a form of honesty and unselfishness that ML badly needed, if only to realize that he does have an option of truly living in happiness and not just as a facade.

Their relationship cultivated into a very loving and respectful adoration of each other.

But my favprite definitely has to be the treatment of family in MC's case. He was disowned by his family both in old and second life, and ML and ML's son gace him a chance to have a happy family. The case of MC's family was also resolved very well. Rather than abandonment, they end in a civil and hopeful tone, at least in the case of MC's father who finally reflects his ways and starts leading a simple life.

There is no dog blood revenge or unnecessary flexing. MC and ML are mostly lowkey unless strictly necessary.

The "side couple" (lol) is also a plus ?. <<less

It's been a few months since I finished reading this novel, and I just can't seem to be able to get it out of my head. Really, I absolutely loved both MC and ML. Especially MC. There's something about him that feel like he could be a real person- well, it's hard to explain. But I love their chemistry, I love the story progression, the characters, just- everything.

5 STARS! Beautiful story!

PS: We NEED a better cover and more fan arts. Please 😭

I really can't understand how can this kind of novel deserve a good rating...

May be I am disappointed about the dirty things in the entertainment cycle like selling your body just to climb higher...

That's why I can't understand nor sympathize with MC.

... more>> As for Ml, forcing someone to become his kept pet using shady methods is so disgusting (although it is not directly)

And like other CN novels, from the buyer and seller relationship, ML and MC become lovers.

From other reader's viewpoint, this might be sound romantic... But not for me..

Falling in love with a person who just want your body at first is pretty funny......

But if you all don't mind those kind of special body relationship, you guys can go ahead and enjoy this kind of novel.

After all, this one is not as bad as some kind of toxic and r*pe tags novels..... <<less

The novel is very overrated. The story is flat, and although the MC is quite likable there is almost no development in the relationship of the main couple. I got bored halfway through the novel and dropped it. Undercurrents of the entertainment industry and backstabbing are shown quite well though.

Note : This is a review based solely on my viewpoint as a reader.

What I liked about this novel

  • The face slapping. Nothing too OP or unrealistic but just a little bit of assistance to karma to do all the work.
  • Spoiler

The family dynamic of Bai Lang, ML and their son. I always look forward to their parts cause it's just so sweet to read.

    [collapse]
  • Bai Lang's mature and cautious personality. I like how he immediately didn't fall for the ML after rebirth cause he was betrayed from his s/o before and it would be a bit wrong if he were to immediately move on.
What I found a bit lacking for this novel

  • Surprisingly nothing. I'm not really an expert reader myself but with novels below the 100 chapter mark like this, the endings can be unsatisfactory but I have nothing bad to say about this one.
Rating : 10/10 (Worth the hype to read. Nothing in here will blow your mind but it will warm your heart.)

sigh I have not much words but disappointment

the novel had too many cliches im not that into, its just... >> one of the cliche is the bottom being a virg*n while ML is an experienced top, its just so common every where and im getting sick of it. + the way the MC talked ab losing v**ginity = losing value in his talk to his family rubs me the wrong way. another cliche: bottom is a nice, clean person :), tbh he just feels like a borderline pushover (especially to... more>> ml) . the relationship felt forced, with ML being a whole creep in the last life, basically always asking the MC to be his kept person. ML does not respect mc's privacy, nor his hardwork. it just disappoints me after reading about partners who truly cares and respect their MC. also child abuse is normalized everywhere, I get it but its 2022, a novel where a parent hitting a child is normalized behaviour is horrible. The ML basically neglects and hurt the child physically without talking it out. It creates trauma and a sense of insecurity + fear in that child. Its horrible, it never ends well. Just stop.

the writing is okay I guess, I had high expectations but was broken down www, I accidentally cl**ked 3 stars, ut now that I think about it, feels like a 2 star worth. severly overrated. <<less

This is a story I reread when I'm in a bad mood. It's full of fluff that soothes my heart.

I have read this book so many times that the story is engraved in my mind to a pint I can retell the whole plot from my memory.

The plot line is pretty good and the novel is pretty cute with child caring included.

It was my cup of tea and loved it thoroughly.

I loved the understanding between the leads which was slowly built up with time.

The novel starts very promising and the first half of the novel is really good. I read the first half very fast but for the last few chapters it was very boring so I just read a few line from each chapters so that I could know how it ends. First half of the novel is good, dramatic and realistic but in the second half writer starts to exaggerate everything for example turns all the gray characters into some brainless black characters...

let me summarize my experience:

1- Qiu Qian (ML) has... more>> a child, in the first half of the novel he sounds cute but in the second half he sounds like an spoiled s*upid child who talks way too much, so it gets on your nerve and you start skipping his lines.

2- The villains of the story although commit lots of bad things in his previous life, but their actions are realistic, they seem very very selfish but they are real gray characters. but after his rebirth suddenly they become super super greedy, they are very s*upid and all they can do is make mistakes and embarrass themselves.

3- MC is a good actor in his previous life and he is good looking. but as the novel goes on, he suddenly becomes THE BEST ACTOR EVER, as if he can't make any mistake, everybody loves the way he looks and acts, and he experiences success after success. it becomes very boring because even before reading the chapter you know what is going to happen. he is going to overcome all his problems and all the netizens are going to love him.

4- ML loves MC very much, and he is very ruthless. and he completely destroys all his enemies as if they are some sort of flies. so the story is quiet predictable when you see him go after someone, you pretty much know what is going to happen, and it isn't some dramatic fight where he wins working very hard, everybody else are bunch of useless idiots and everything is solved very easily.

5- there is also a very important thing and that is the fact that story never explains why ML cares so much about MC in his previous life and although they had some brief encounters he helps him that much and holds the umbrella, is it just because the way MC looks... maybe it is explained though but it was in the last chapters so I have skipped it.

6- It isn't some revenge story because MC doesn't care much about revenge, but ML takes those revenges anyway. So it is even worse, it makes MC seem like a weak character. Although the writer tries to overemphasize that MC is a strong person, but the way characters interact and MC behaves he doesn't seem strong at all.

//I liked the first half very much, but the next half was very disappointing, I gave it three stars because I averaged first and second half. It is a good read if you are looking for something short to pass the time. and compared to lots of other BLs it's relatively very good. But it is not a great story. <<less

Really good beginning so far. There's just enough dramatic flair that makes the MC, Bai Lang, seem super cool but not an op Mary sue. Something I really love about this story is that Bai Lang's rebirth actually really impacted him. In other rebirth stories the main characters all seem to be just good to great people who were dealt a shitty hand in life. For Bai Lang, yes he was also given a horrible hand, but it was also because of his own character and personality that cause his... more>> life to play out the way it did. Then when he's reborn, he seriously reflects on his past actions. It just feels really real that he had lived ten extra years. <<less

I'm glad I picked this up. After so many sweet and light novels, I needed a bit of drama and tears to unwind 😂.

The plot was not the best, but I can't say it wasn't enjoyable. It's unusual for transmigration novels to have so many mishaps. I liked it. Normally, everything goes smoothly for the MC from the beginning because of some casualties or plain luck. In this one, it took years for MC to achieve his goal in his acting career and to get revenge. He didn't suffer (much),... more>> but things were not easy either.

On the other hand, I don't think I have read about a couple like this before. They were everything I didn't like about romance books. Somehow, they made it work for me. By the end of the story, I was hooked on their dynamics. Their relationship was a bit toxic if I'm being honest.

The book mentions a few delicate subjects that may hurt some sensibilities, so beware. There's mention of r*pe, toxic relationships, physical and emotional abuse, etc. But not with the main characters. Their relationship started with a contract, but the change to an actual loving relationship was gradual and not rushed.

Oh, and there's a kid. One of them has a sweet baby from a past relationship. I know some readers don't like this type of plot so I'll take your worries: the mom didn't show up, and there's no drama with him. They actually got closer because of him. He is the soul of this book 😍. <<less

This is a story with an awesome couple! The MC Bai Lang is a warm-hearted and level-headed actor and the ML Qiu Qian is a shrewd and ruthless business mogul. Although their relationship starts as a contract and the ML starts out not so great (kind of creepy and is a negligent father), the ML improves and treats the MC well.

Premise of the story - Bai Lang has a tragic death and is transported back ten years to his past. Armed with his past experiences and knowledge, he re-lives his... more>> life to change his fate. Along the way, he improves his situation, finds a true family (there is a cute kid!), and ultimately avenges his past self.

I love how the couple ends up so in-sync with each other and have no ridiculous misunderstandings or miscommunications! This is a story that will leave you with a very satisfied feeling. <<less

PROS:

    • Not overly dramatic
    • No s*upid misunderstandings. MC and ML communicates well. Ideal relationship. MC is very mature. ML isn't overbearing.
    • Cute characters.
      Spoiler

Some may find it unappealing when the ML already has a son, however I think, the son's identity here contributed a lot to the story's enjoyment factor. He liven up the atmosphere tenfolds.

      [collapse]
    • Just right amount of dog food. You won't get sick of their interactions.
    • Romance isn't fast nor slow. They get together fast but they didn't fall inlove immediately.
      Spoiler

MC approach ML after his rebirth not because he has feelings for him but because of pure gratitude. The same for ML, at first his interest was just piqued, but it's nothing more than that. Although I'm not sure why he was helping MC so much for years in his past life even when they don't have relationship. The MC thinks the ML is just playing with him, but logically speaking, who would spend that much attention, time and effort to someone out of mere entertainment? The author never made it clear though so we can just assume.

      [collapse]
    • This is your typical rebirth x revenge trope, but MC wasn't eager to take revenge. He's being passive, if he can avoid the problems then why not. But if he's cornered, he will retaliate just as right. Though at most he doesn't do anything, however ML was there to do the dirty work for him.
    • There are super annoying characters, but not too many. Also they aren't thouroughly blackened.
      Spoiler

Except for Kang Jian (the scum ex). I think the author just decided to push all the hate to Kang Jian's character, I mean all throughout the story he was a complete scum, no remorse whatsover. Irredeemable. Greedy to the max. I mean, I get it human greed are insatiable but at the end of the day we are still humans. No matter how bad we can be, there's always a reason/motivation behind every actions. No one's completely black and white. Kang Jian isn't. He's the antagonist so all his actions are just pure antagonism. It became unrealistic to the point that I don't care whether he got his punishment or not in the end because it doesn't matter anymore, because as I've said, he's thoroughly blackened. What would you look forward to to a person who is expected to not have any remorse until the end? Nothing. His character became bland in the later chapters. Also whether he has family or not, it remained a mystery. The author didn't bother providing background for him.

      [collapse]
CONS:

    • MC isn't too OP, but I still think he has golden finger since he has all the experience from his past life, hence his acting path was pretty much paved. Especially with the ML around.
    • Forgotten characters. Introduces a bunch seemingly important characters only to completely forgot about them in the later chapters.
    • Author's'just-leave-it-as-it-is-attitude. Some details might seem insignificant that's why the author didn't provide it, but some parts left you hanging.
      Spoiler

Who is the mother of ML's son? Why did she escape? No reason provided. Why MC knows what happened after his death
in his past life? I'll try to answer this. Maybe after he died his soul lingered for a while before he went into the cycle of rebirth so he still managed to witness what happened after. Author didn't make it clear though.

      [collapse]
    • Poor attempt of engagement in dark/mystery
      Spoiler

1st: Honestly, this started off as dramatic and kinda light hearted. And then suddenly pop! There's an evil nanny who only showed up once and has the intention of making the ML's son permanently disabled. The nanny was immediately caught and forced to jump to death by the ML. Thrilling right? It left a deep impression on me. But rest assured, there'll no more anything darker than this, which is kinda disappointing, because this scene kinda set the standards.

2nd: A friend of ML pulls a trick of triggering MC's heart attack by abusing him on set. How serious this can be if it succeeds? MC would be dead in an instant, again. That's pretty dark. I think ML's reaction regarding this fact was a bit lackluster, or too calm. It turns out great though. He handled it pretty well.

      [collapse]

Author suddenly switches to narration when it comes to crucial scene.
      Spoiler

Such as when ML discovered MC has heart disease, and when ML got into a car accident. However just take it as me nitpicking. I think the author still delivered the scenes well in that approach.

      [collapse]

Translation is pretty good, however there are very little grammatical errors or typo. But that can be overlooked.

Other than that, it was a fun read! Not boring, but engaging. I'd like to reiterate that despite my complaints I still enjoyed reading it. Worth recommending. 3/5

This is a really good novel just that the MC is a little bland. He just doesn't have a eye catching aura. IDK but over all the story was really good. Plus one point for the little bun and his side story. The MC doesn't go out of his way for revenge either and is quite mature and that's another plus. The most impressive fact however is the ML, he is not the elegant mysterious type but a rowdy type, so I thought it may have a lot of non... more>> con or dub con but no this guy is simply amazing he never does anything that the MC doesn't like and would always make sure that the MC is willing which is a plus point and also he is super understanding,
Spoiler

when the MC had a kiss scene in the movies although he was jealous he didn't make a fuss and was understanding to the fact that the MC is an actor and he needs to do his job, which is in my opinion a very rare thing because most of the ml's aren't this understanding

[collapse]
overall the story is very cute and fun to read just some occasional brainlessness and a slightly bland MC. <<less

Hmm... this one gives me mixed feelings. My original rating is somewhere between 4.25~4.5 depending on which chapter I'm reading.

Firstly, the translation quality was very good compared to many other novels on this site. So kudos to the translation team! ?

Secondly, let's talk about the plot - there is a plot - basically a mixture of face-slapping, revenge and diabetes- inducing fluff. There are plenty of loopholes and flaws if you think rationally, but the overall feeling is good. It doesn't excell in any specific aspect but... more>> it was pleasent to read. I felt there was adequate drama and world building.

Thirdly, ROMANCE: the romance is good. It's sugary and fluffy at times, angsty at other times and despite the melodramatic exaggerations, it felt real. Some of the issues portrayed like the insecurities and problems about trust and flexibility in relationship seemed realistic. One thing that sort of disappointed me was the fact that the tension created between the two main antagonists and the main characters was developed well, only to end in a very anticlimactic manner. That makes you feel a bit deflated. And the romance doesn't really face any major issue in the 2nd half which makes it slightly boring for me. Moreover, it's like both the antagonists lose their IQ/character setting by the end
Spoiler

Su Quan is supposed to be cold and calculated but becomes too emotional. And Kang Jian (I think that's his name) who was mentioned as "cautious" in the beginning suddenly becomes impulsive enough to bet all his money (50 million) on one business scheme? That doesn't seem cautious even though he had tested the field previously with smaller amounts.

[collapse]

The little bun is definitely a plus point of the whole novel and once you're hooked onto his reactions, you can't forget it anymore ?

The MC is likeable. He isn't too much of a white lotus or Gary Stu. He is a grey character in this sense. So I like that. As for the ML, he is quite respectful towards most of the MC'S decisions but seems too intrusive at times. (But to each his/her own I guess) I have mixed feelings about some of his actions but he's one of the rare MLs who doesn't get involved in non-con or dub-con despite being the oppressive CEO stereotype. So he gets my support for that.

I got the impression that the author started rushing into everything halfway through the story. This novel could've gotten rid of a lot of it's flaws if it had 20 more chapters in it. However, it was enjoyable and I'll definitely recommend it.

Tl;dr: slightly rushed but fluffy and sweet. RECOMMENDED. <<less

This is a story where everyone gets what they deserve - karmic retribution at its finest. The novel is well-paced and incidents are resolved swiftly enough to not drag on uncomfortably. The best part is that the MC doesn't remain naive and s*upid unlike many other novel protags. Instead, he learns from the misfortunes he encountered in his previous life and strives to live well when he is given a chance to do so. MC also isn't blinded by revenge although he does seek to ensure that past enemies pay... more>> for their actions to some degree. MC inherently does not have a vicious nature but the ML's character nicely supplements this. ML is decisive and merciless when he needs to be.

The tone of the novel isn't all sunshine and smiles but there are touching moments with familial love which mellows out what could otherwise make the plot feel too heavy. Although there are a number of antagonists the author doesn't paint them to be completely 'good' or 'bad' and succintly conveys their character, motives and thoughts. Thanks to that, they don't come off as 1D brainless villains and at least have some substance.

I would have liked for the author to have perhaps written an extra about the ML in the original timeline. It would have been interesting to see his perspective.

All in all, the novel was well written and was of a good length for a short read. I do feel like I need a palate cleanse and will need to read something more lighthearted and fluffy. <<less

I went into this not expecting very much but was pleasantly surprised. It's a very feel-good rebirth story, with a very light sprinkling of angst in the beginning/early middle bits, but mostly a whole lot of fluff.

I wasn't a super huge fan of the male lead at first, since he was one of those overbearing, possessive types, but he ended up growing on me, and their relationship does equalize a lot as time goes on. He's not the best overbearing ML I've ever read, but he's not terrible, at least.

But... more>> I guess I should foreground all of this with: yes, as others have said, he does sexually assault the main character when they first meet. Though he stops once he realizes the MC really isn't willing, this incident is never properly addressed. (Though the ML does do some background finagling for MC's sake, which you learn about only in the rebirth, more on that later.) The ML also ends up essentially sexually harassing MC in the first life with constant "jokes" about being his kept man. This is also never addressed (though doesn't happen in the second life since they get together pretty quickly). And while the ML never actually threatens MC, the MC certainly does feel wary because of their power difference. Worth noting, since it seems a lot of folks drop it at this early point -- which is completely valid!

But you do learn things about the ML in the second life that mitigates a lot of these moments.

Spoiler

ML is actually the one who pulls MC out of the forced prostitution that MC's previous entertainment company tricked him into doing by transferring MC into his own entertainment company. And, he's also the one who switches out MC's assistant for his own personal assistant once he realizes that MC's assistant was selling information to the paparazzi. Overall, while this doesn't entirely absolve ML of his crass s*xual harassment of MC, it does paint him in a nicer light, and makes it easier to like him the second go around.

[collapse]

There's a few other things to watch out for -- MC and ML's relationship does start from money, and ML is written as a bit forceful in their first few encounters. (MC consents, and is the one who seeks ML out in the first place for this deal, but if you're not a fan of early unhealthy relationship dynamics, these first few chapters probably won't look good.) Also...

Spoiler

ML gives MC a watch with a listening device in it, though he also straight-up tells MC about it (and gives MC the option to not wear it, though MC never does, again, with a slight tinge of #powerdynamics issue to it). This watch actually later becomes useful when the MC/ML face-slaps their enemies, but it doesn't quite wash away these early voyeuristic, stalker vibes, though the narrative itself acknowledges it.

Their relationship really takes off, however, when the ML confesses his love to the MC, which happens early enough (chapter 23), but late enough that both of their feelings have organically changed. While MC had already made strides to get on the same footing with ML before this, after this, their relationship definitely equalizes (in particular, financially), and MC ceases to be a kept man.

What I really enjoy about the two main characters' relationship is how well they actually communicate with one another. There's no misunderstandings or ridiculous jealousy-induced drama, and the whole thing actually becomes a pretty healthy relationship. Though the ML is a tad bit more overbearing than I'd like, he always respects the MC's wishes and never oversteps. The two support each other 100% and most of their conflicts from this point on are external rather than internal.

And that's the only other thing that I'm kind of "eh" about with this: the face-slapping can get a bit excessive at the end. It never quite crosses the line for me (and I have a very firm line, believe me), but it does get a bit tiring, especially when I really just wanted to read more fluffy family shenanigans or about how MC is a great actor. A small quibble in the grand scheme of things.

TLDR; Really sweet, fluffy story. Starts off a bit unhealthily in the relationship department but slowly becomes a healthy relationship between two people (and their son!) who all really love each other. Gave me super warm feelings at the end, so definitely worth it. <<less

This story is one of my favorites because of how soothing and warm it is. There's no dragged out melodrama and turmoil. The couple communicates properly and they rarely hide things from each other. They protect each other and their kid is the best part of whole story, he's absolutely hilarious. It's not a very exciting novel given how quickly ML and MC take care of the their problems and don't let them linger, but that's ok. I like to read this novel when I get sick of dramatic ups... more>> and downs and just need something fluffy but not surgery sweet to read. There's enough just a hint of angst that makes this novel just the right amount of sweetness without being overwhelming. And the translator did a fantastic job. They also did well at explaining any unclear or culturally difficult to understand parts of the novel. <<less
