A top hacker was chosen by the Lord God to be reborn into countless worlds, always as an expendable villain.

With no free will, every world became a dead end. Each of his lives ended tragically.

Finally, after wrestling control of the Villain System, this ace hacker decided to enact revenge. Even if his very bones were rotten, he’d choose to occupy the very heights of morality, if only on the surface.

Thus, he would change his fate as an abused slag.

This novel is one of the best novels I've read so far. It makes me feel mushy, happy, sad, excited, hallow etc, in some chapters [universes].

The first chapter [universe] was confusing for me, but even though it felt confusing, it felt good and exciting to read with a happy, mushy, sad ending T^T.

The other universes are practically perfect. Making the other universes seem way better, as their connected to each other (I like how the author set the pieces of the puzzle in the story together through universes). They bring... more>> out all your emotions in different chapters [universes].

I like especially how the author makes the uke (mc) and the seme (ml) meet in every universe and how they have an 'immortal love'. <<less

This story is absolutely amazing! I love the protagonist and the seme in everyone of the story. While the name of the seme may change, you can still see a hint of their personality in each life peak through. I enjoy watching the protagonist's antics as he went from one life to another.

I went to read this novel with high hopes because of so many good reviews. And I was let down.

This is the one of the most disappointing novels I have read and that's saying something, since lot of quick transmigration, "yandere ML" novels are just there for instant gratification.

But this one, doesn't even have a passable plot or world building. It's just, MC is powerful, super intelligent and really beautiful. Seriously, if I had a cent for everytime author uses the word "peach-blossom eyes", "supple waist" "jade skin" to describe... more>> MC, I would be a millionaire.

MC and ML are one dimensional and have no character development. The plot is just, MC enters the world, MC can somehow manipulate everything in the world because he is a "hacker", (that's not how hacking even works but okay, sure I have given up on logic by now), he defeats all the evil people because everyone except ML and MC is evil and just the absolute worst. In the end, ML goes yandere mode, falls in love with MC and they live happily ever after.

It's fine to make MC overpowered, lot of MC are overpowered and still have character development. This one is just Marty Sue.

Seriously, if you had read one arc, you have read the whole book, except for change in setting, everything remains the same. <<less

This is one of the most addicting novels I've ever read. It's hard to put the awesomeness into words but the quality of the story to the characters to the translations... holy crap. It's so fantastic I couldn't stop reading since the first chapter. The author writes each scenario within about 10 chapters, so I greatly applaud the amazing effort of the author and translator for the high quality of well worded phrases, nice thought out premises, plot, characters, romance, and thrill that is packed into the story, even with... more>> the limited number of chapters to write it in. I also love how the whole transmigration things is taking classic set ups and adding small twists here and there to keep the story fresh... that just makes it all the more satisfying. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH that this is definitely not a story to miss out on!! <<less

Ahhh..... Too cute. So good ? This story feels like a classic. I've read this again and again I've lost count already. Ah ah ah. It's just too good. I don't think I could find something like this again. There might be similar genres and tags, but I'm pretty sure the charm and aura would be very different

So now, I hate to be the stick in the mood, but seeing how FoD is already very well received and almost every review is five stars, I don't see why I should hold myself back from saying what's on my mind, and be honest about my own personal reading experience regarding this novel.

Ok, so I first came across this novel a while ago, but really didn't find it interesting so I dropped it fairly quickly; however seeing it being praised to the heavens by every review and repeteadly reccomended,... more>> I decided to give it another try, however a few chapters later... again it failed to grab my attention. At this point, I honeslty didn't think to pick it up again, but then I read a review in which someone mentioned how they found the first arc particularly boring before the novel started picking up, my desire to give it another go was naturally revived, thinking that perhaps, if I could just get through the first arc, I could finally find what was it about this novel that had everyone so fascinated.

Suffices to say, 40 chapters later, I have yet to find that something, so I decided it's high time to give up and resign myself to be perhaps of the few unfortunate people who didn't enjoy FoD, I will give a brief explanation as to what about it I dind't like so you don't feel like I' just shitting on it for the sake of it.

First thing first, the MC... forget about being OP, we all know that cnovels are full of OP characters, so as long as they are well written and their progress towards OPness is believable, I don't mind them too much, but this MC barges too much into Gary stu territory for my liking, I just can't empathyze or relate with him, and other than the MC, the rest of the characters all feel awfully flat and two dimensional; to me they all feel like they're there either to be face-slapped by the MC or to hug his thigh and become his supporter, even the ML feels more like a prop to increase the MC's status than an actual person, I just couldn't bring myself to like him, even after reading up to three arcs.

The only part that I found satisfactory was the amount of detail put into the worldbuilding, the plot behind each universe and story felt very well thought out and carefully planned, alas, the characters just weren't up to par, even the good-old face-slapping starts to get boring when all the opponents feel like cannon-fodder NPCS next to the MC who is basically a male god with I-don't-know-how-many years of experience plus cheats. Also the romance feels kind of forced and underdeveloped imo?? I don't know about later into the story though, it probably gets more interesting since it has yet to be revealed that the ML is the same sould, so naturally, MC's feelings wouldn't run so deep, but until then skimming through such half-hearted romance feels monotonous, so honestly I don't have the patience to find out anymore, if even after 40 chapters or the plot didn't manage to grab my attention, it can only be said that this novel just isn't for me I guess. <<less

Beautiful writing! I rarely write reviews, but for this novel, I just had too. It's heartbreaking, has wonderful plot, sweet and bittersweet love. On top of everything, it's not corny at all. A world of its own, it makes you become absorbed. I will be checking for updates daily. Am so hooked!

Tbh, I don't really get the super high rating for this novel. Some parts were okay, but in comparison, there were more issues that annoyed me than stuff to keep me reading.

First of all, the romance is really disturbing. There's no development of feelings, no moments, nothing. Instead the novel describes a pe*verted obsessive relationship between the MC and ML. The ML particularly, is honestly dislikable in my opinion. Almost all the thoughts written from his point of view was related to how he lusted after the MC. It really... more>> gives you an uncomfortable feeling about people in general, just based on how overly gross some of the stuff he imagines is. Oh and the MC is just like "lol okay" for all of this. There's no mention of why he actually likes the ML (or even if he actually does), other than the fact that he really likes the ML's body type. Additionally the only kind of connection they have in between them is tHe rEaCtIoN oF tHeIr bOdIeS. Which is like, idk, imo kinda shallow??? I haven't even touched on the status of their relationship either. In most cases, the age gap is HUGE. Like the MC would be in freaking highschool when the ML is in his late 20s. Even more, the author likes assigning the ML into some sort of family tie to the MC. Not a direct blood relation, but some sort of adoptive uncle. ??? why ???

I could continue to rant about the romance but I need to touch up on some other aspects as well.

Usually, I like MCs with this kind of personality. He's decisive, and knows what he wants. But the author stresses too much on his intelligence. It'd be okay if he actually shows this in his speech and remarks, however, the novel takes a narrative route instead. What I mean is that you get lines constantly praising his 180IQ and super hacker intelligence. Plus, he's legit the definition of OP, completely flawless, even in the arts and physical strength. This is also overstated, with every chapter mentioning how amazing the MC is. So yeah. Not super fun to support.

As for the plot, its actually okay. Some of the worlds have an interesting set up. A few side characters are nice too. My only warning is that with some of the ways the MC deals with things, its not really satisfying to read about the face-slapping. You don't exactly completely pity the original characters, but rather than your typical case of justice triumphing and what not, its more like destroying evil with a greater evil, but this time the deeds are done on the side of the MC. There isn't any chance of them retaliating either, since the MC is basically omniscient, and has all these hacked skills. And so, the ending result for each world is basically the lives of the other characters are ruined while the MC and ML celebrate with their love life. Oh and I should probably mention that the the plot above takes place only for about half the time. The other half is spent describing the ML and MC's pe*verted desires.

All in all... I'm kind of disappointed. I expected to get a more action filled story with clever scheming, rather than two men in different settings who have no control over their hormones. If you're looking for a similar story setting (MC transmigrates multiple worlds and face-slaps scum) I would really recommend Don't pick up a boyfriend from the tr*sh bin. The worlds are a lot more developed than this story and even the original bodies are very memorable characters. The MC is possibly one of my favourite characters in fiction, and you can literally see his intelligence in action without needs of description. ML is also a much more realistic character and the relationship between them is natural. Both are respectable people with morals and do not have disturbing overly lustful reactions towards each other. A much better alternative ^^ <<less

Once in a while, you encounter a novel with extremely mixed reviews. This is often because you got two different groups of readers. People who've been following and reading the novel when it still was updating and people who are able to read it in one go or on their own pace, because the novel was already completed (or a large amount of chapters are already translated). Both groups obviously have a very different reading experience compared to each other and this causes the review section to consist out of... more>> 1 star and 5 star reviews.

'Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil' is the best example of this phenomenon.

Kez started translating QWFD in summer 2017 and finished translating the main story in 2019. The immense success and popularity of QWFD is mainly because:

    1. In 2017, the BL genre wasn't as booming as it is now. While there were multiple danmei novels translated, it was a bit of a rarity compared to now, where some feel that BL is dominating NU.
    1. Same for the general world hopping genre. While isekai is already known, the translation of stories with transmigration into multiple world just started picking up on NU. Especially the combination of BL transmigration.
    1. Kez was translating reasonably fast and consistent. When they would update, they would release an entire arc.
For a lot of people, QWFD was (one of) the first novel that introduced them to BL novels or the idea of transmigration, having a system and a mission/task. The entire concept was new and exciting. BL in general wasn't translated as much. And this is reflected in the reviews. People just loved it. No critical analysis of whether the system was actually useful or complaints that this a only smut. After all, there was basically nothing to compare it with.

Now looking at the story after it has been completely translated and more similar novels have been translated as well. It reads very differently. Is it any good? Eh, it's just average. The MC is genius but lazy prefers to rely on the ML. The worlds are okay, but once the pair meets, you know what's going to happen. But it not necessarily bad, it still a relaxing read. However if you would binge it now, the story might slowly become be a bit boring. As you don't have to wait in between arcs, the issues in this story are more noticeable.

Should you read it? If you think this is your thing, just go for it. While QWFD is certainly overhyped, you should still give it a shot. If you find it boring, you can always drop it. Also if you're a big bl fan, you'll read it anyways cuz you will read everything bl you get your hands on.

  • I would have given this novel 0 rating if it was possible and the translation wasn't so well done. The problem is not that the novel is that bad.... but it is quite bad, it's that it's so hyped up that I was expecting to read an 11 out of 10 novel instead I got a 4.5 and I felt cheated. The first arc was horrible!!

It was so fast paced! The MC and ML were supposed to be enemies but the MC just said one sentence and the ML is now in his camp and half a chapter later in some bizzare time skip they are besties about to have the romance of the century and the original protagonist has somehow turned into a bumbling 1D villian to showcase how awesome the MC is.
  • The MC is an OP arrogant hypocrite that thinks because he was treated horribly by the "god system" his moral compass is clearly the correct one and he's character is always the one wronged.
  • I thought, "this has a high rating! The author is just getting warmed up, the rest of it can't be that bad ?!" And in so doing, I jinxed myself. The MC has very little character growth and seems to be doing the same thing in each arc, the romance seems to die a mysterious death at some point and the villians....

so s*upid! I think they are also being controlled by the "god system" because no one is that painfully brainless.

I can't bring myself to finish this and wondering if

all those people who gave this 5 stars were reading their first quick transmigration story... it's the only explanation for the high ratings.

Note: I haven't read any of the extras, just finished the main story, but I feel that is more than sufficient to justify me writing this review.

Where do I begin?

I'll admit, when I first discovered this story at the very beginning of my foray into BL novels, I thought it was the most amazing and unique plot ever. What?? Quick Transmigration is a thing?? Multiple worlds!? You get the gist. Unfortunately, as I read more, I quickly grew to realise QWTFOD was not amazing, nor was it the creme de... more>> la creme of QT novels, it wasn't even remotely unique. A quick search on NU will pull up a dime a dozen. But nevertheless, even if the basic premise isn't all that unique, a great execution could turn a meh plot into an amazing plot, for example, DPUBFTTB.

But it fails to even do that right.

At its core, QWTFOD is a wish fulfilment, power fantasy. The main character Zhou Yun Sheng goes to multiple worlds with his L33T hacking skillz and makes any challenge inconsequential. The Lord God is touted as some great big baddy with a looming presence but it's so far removed from the storyline of these worlds, it might as well not exist for all the impact it has on ZYS cruising through the worlds and faceslapping everyone against him.

Zhou Yun Sheng himself is a Gary Stu. He's beautiful, talented, a genius, and so powerful that nothing poses a threat, not even Lord God even though the novel will try to convince you otherwise. It's BORING because there's no conflict, no drive, no compelling characters to root for. And I am so tired of overly-possessive, lustful and creepy MLs like the one in this story. It's not sexy, it's not hot, it's not desirable, it's just so many red flags that a bull wouldn't know which direction to charge in.

The only thing that was satisfying and the only reason this wasn't a 1 star was because I liked some of the worlds and I have to admit the worldbuilding was relatively well done, if a bit sparse. But QT worlds rarely have the chapters needed to fully develop so I'll forgive that. Notable arcs that didn't irritate the hell out of me were the second arc, with the autistic painter, the second ger arc, the zombie apocalypse arc and the final arc before the finale with the MC as the emperor. The reason why these arcs don't irritate me as much is because, I think, ZYS's OPness takes a backseat and there's more development in regards to the emotions and the relationships. The final arc was okay simply because for once ZYS is more powerful than the ML. Great job folks, it only took 15 arcs to reach this point.

TL;DR: Gary Stu MC with decent worldbuilding and a paper-thin plot built on nothing but a wish fulfilment fantasy and topped off with an overly-possessive creepy ML. Read if that interests you. Pass if any of those points makes you cringe. <<less

Looking at all the five stars reviews, I was desperate to get some alone me-time so I'd be able to savor this gem.

So our MC, a top hacker was forced by God to play the part of a minor cannon fodder in several hundred worlds in several different settings. Slowly he begins to gain control of his mind and decides to play out the role of cannon fodder while simultaneously doing little things that will slowly change the course of the setting.

The first world we began in was very interesting.... more>> We got to see what motivated our MC, got to understand his hatred for "God", his desire to break free of the system and his loneliness.
Spoiler

We watch as our MC breaks free of his cannon fodder ending, gets together with a supporting male character (our ML) and derail the God's world.

[collapse]

Now my problem started with the second world.
Spoiler

In the first world, the MC says how he will stay away from the main protagonist as that was a quick way for the God to notice that he was a virus and get crushed like a bug. In the second world, not only does he single handedly change the protagonist's (the ML) story-line, he does it in a way that can be easily be traced by God. Oh and did I mention he gets together with the protag in happily married kinda way. How is that staying away from the original protagonist so that he won't get noticed by God!!!!

[collapse]
However I was still enjoying the novel so I decided not to sweat the facts.

In the third world it was a xianxia setting with reincarnation.
Spoiler

And in this world, the MC escapes being cannon fodder, ruins the original female protagonist and gets together with a male supporting character (the ML). So pretty much the first world in a different setting

[collapse]

And in the fourth world........ Yeah, I'm not doing this anymore.

I tried to like this novel, I really did. But when I got to the ninth arc, I realized I didn't care for any of the characters anymore, so I dropped it

My point is- pros to the author for managing to think of so many different settings, but I really wish s/he had played around with the story more. MC is always drop dead gorgeous, ML is always obsessed with MC. The world's original protagonists are always jerks. MC is always so cool and intelligent that it's boring. Nothing truly bad ever happens to him. You'd think after ruining so many of God's world, God would at least send a minion or a warning or something but no, nothing ever happens. Each of the worlds is a predictable reincarnation-type story. For people who like pure romance type stories, this is for you. For people who prefer decent plot to romance, look elsewhere <<less

... yeah, I should've never trusted the reviews. (just my opinion)

The story is stale and boring. Every arc is the same. The only thing that changes are the setting. Like, Next top model, omegaverse, Apocalypse verse, business verse, and so on.

The MC is boring and a damn Gary sue. He is always praised for doing the bare f*cking minimum, and is always praised for his beauty. He is supposed to be 1000+ (?) man but he is so immature.

And the ml. Oh god..

Spoiler

he is the worst. His only triat is 'og body trait + obsession with MC's. Thats it. He falls in love so quickly. Too op, and always gets what he wants. In a lot of the arc, he is always a h**ny mf who preys on MC and act out of his character.

The villains...

90% of the villains is the FL. MC HATES most of the women in this novel. He even outright states that he dilikes women. The FL is always treated horribly by every character in this novel. She and many others are always the but of the joke. It's just... Immature.

[collapse]

The story would be alright it the MC wasn't too perfect allt he time and actively hates on women. <<less

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I don't get the hype. The plot’s okay, but not particularly well done, which is an issue since the tropes (OP MC, black-bellied ML, quick transmigration, face-slapping) are so over-done in danmei circles. The MC is smug and cruel. He often goes way overboard in his retaliation in a way that's no longer satisfying to read; instead, you start feeling bad for the villains. He's so overpowered he never goes through any substantial struggle until the ending, and even then, it doesn't feel... gripping. It's enter a world, effortlessly slap some people around, fool around with the creepy, overbearing ML, and leave. Rinse and repeat. It's not very memorable or unique, as far as QT stories go. IMO, that’s not inherently a bad thing, but given the length of this novel, it does start to feel repetitive. Also, the author reallyyy hates women for some reason, and it gets more and more obvious the further along you go. On the contrary, she loves animals and pretty little boys! Though maybe a bit too much, as you'll find from the recurring beastiality and underage s*x.

I don't like yaoi novels. In fact, I avoid them. That is merely my personal preference, as there is a reason I'm a straight man, and reading about two men kissing is somewhat... uncomfortable. I bring this up because I love this novel. And it's important that you hear my view on an extremely large part of the novel, and know that the writing in this novel is so good that I can look over half of it making me feel uncomfortable.

You may be wondering, however, why I even started... more>> reading this novel if it was yaoi, well, I had no idea (thank god). It was a good portion into the first arc that I went back to this screen, and checked the tags, because I was getting odd vibes off of the MC and ML then. I almost quit reading, once I found out, I wasn't interested in a yaoi romance novel, but I had been drawn into the story up to that point, and decided to continue reading (once again, thank god).

As you read this novel, you'll likely enjoy every arc. The arcs rarely become boring or tedious (mind you, it does happen occasionally). But the best part is that you'll likely have one or two favorite arcs that you come back to every so often. Maybe every 6 months or so, you'll be thinking about pianos, and get the sudden urge to read a certain absolutely perfect arc once more. Who knows?

Anyways, this wasn't meant to hate on yaoi novels, it was simply made to show you how good this book little book could be if you give it a chance. <<less

I managed to find an online txt of the published version of this story (untranslated, of course). It contains a smattering of extra NC-17 s*x scenes for the various existing chapters. There's also three extra worlds and an extra side story featuring the supporting male lead in ch14. Two of the extra worlds immediately follow ch15 (Cuckold Emperor) : Evil wuxia grandmaster x Shaolin monk, then Juvenile fox spirit x Imperial regent wangye. One more extra world is basically a honeymoon adventure after the end of the main plot in... more>> the "real world", and features some kind of were-animal planet. I thought the wuxia world one was quite good, but the other two extra chapters were kinda gratuitous. The side story is... YMMV depending on if you liked the supporting male lead from ch14, I guess; I didn't, so I found it to be kinda meh.

Anyway, the original online version of the story (which this translation is based on, I believe) reads quite well on its own without the additional sections in the published edition. Each world don't drag on, and generally contribute well to the overarching meta-plot. There's a lot of hints and foreshadowing on what the ML actually is, and on re-reading earlier chapters, it's fun to observe how the ML has always been acting towards his nature, and in retrospect it seems only natural for the kind of entity the ML is to fall for a destructive hacker like the MC. <<less

This is my 2nd time reading this gem. I assure u that I can read it again and again without being bored. This is one of the best novel I had the honour to read out of all novels out there. If u skip this novel just because of yaoi genre, then u miss a big time. I felt a bit loss after the story come to the end. It will be so wonderful if there is sequel to this marvelous gem.
