Q1: Prove Your Eternal Love. There Shall Be No Heroine Correction.

That day, I was going to confess my feelings. I was going to confess my feelings to Tokiwa Nagisa, a kouhai who had confessed her love to me many times.

Alone on the rooftop, I was supposed to tell her how I feel and finally become lovers—but I got caught up in a “Confession Quartet,” a game about love and romance.

If you fall in love during the game, you are promised “Eternal Love” by the power of magic, but if your love is not fulfilled, it will be as if it never existed in the first place. In other words, you go back to the relationship you had before you fell in love.

“I want to cherish the process of love with the person I love, without the guarantee of eternal love.”

“If I can’t have eternal love, I’d rather forget this feeling altogether.”

In the face of such an ultimate choice, I start to defy this game—

This is just my review up until chapter 3, because although I like the novel's setup IMO the implementation just grinded my gears. The premise is that the MC loves his ex-girlfriend's sister, and that he wants to forget about his ex-girlfriend before confessing to the love interest. In this process, he becomes a hypocritical and self-centered egoist. The worst part is that he's self aware of all his flaws (or, really, that the author is self aware of the monstrosity they've created), but despite yapping his lips about his... more>> flaws time and time again he never does anything about it. Even the superpower he draws at the beginning, which only activates after all other players use their superpower, is the most blatant plot stretching mechanic because it tries to justify why the MC doesn't do a single darn thing while he waits for the other players to finish.

Spoiler
  1. If the MC focuses so much on the process of falling in love, you think he'd be more proactive about trying to forget his girlfriend and spending time with his love interest, right? Nope, he loves thinking about love and feeling self superior about how he's better than common lovers while doing nothing to progress his relationship for 8 months before the story begins.
  2. He forces the girl he loves to deal with rejection and heartbreak over a dozen times, with no guilt, no remorse, and somehow ends up feeling proud of his own moral chutzpah at the end of seeing her almost in tears? No, I don't count thinking "is there really no better way?" while relaxing on a couch watching TV to be character development, because he never takes action on those thoughts.
  3. The whole premise of the novel feels mixed up much of the time. The competition basis is that if you go out with someone, you'll instantly forget all other love interests and get attracted to them by otherworldly force. So why does the Yuri girl try to go out with him to stop him approaching her love interest? That goes against the whole point of the game from her perspective! Why does the MC participate in the game and risk losing, if all he's going to do is yap and yap about how the game's unfair and not morally by his oh-so-high standards? He might as well just man up outside the competition regulations and confess to his love interest in the next month.

I really love the premise, because it captures some of the questions I also considered back in high school about what love means and how to confess to a girl, but the author's reliance on paranormal rules that don't fit with his characters and the rest of the universe and the generally unlikable MC ruin the novel for me IMO. <<less

I truly wanted to rate this as a 4*. It has many good points.
- The chapters are long, but the story is not dragged out.
- The illustrations are cute and aplenty.
-The conversations that characters have with each other is enjoyable.
- The premise is fresh and impactful.
- Every characters is truly fleshed out and developed, and the MC is visibly growing in just 6 chapters. And their emotions run deep.
Regardless, I believe that this novel does not lead up to its own hype.
Hm... its quite hard for me to put this into words, but take note of the title "Prove your eternal love". Quite frankly, it does not mean what you would expect of it. This novel does not explore the concept of "proving love", but rather ironically, does the opposite. Much of the love in this novel seems to be present only as a "feeling".
Its quite strange. I cannot recall any part of the novel had the love of the participants being furthered along, or growing.
Neither does this novel talk about consequences of love, or the core of love.
Spoiler

(my thoughts alone) The whole premise of this novel is if one of the participants were to start dating thier target, they win. In that context, love beyond a slight feeling may not be necessary (imo, dkm). Regardless, I disliked that actions to express love were not included in the novel, and I didn't understand the extent of love that each chracter had. It was not elaborated enough. Perhaphs you can call me insentive to it, to each thier own. This is my review.

Ah, I think I got it. This novel has too much leaning into use of power/skills obtained to achieve goals, but not enough about love that I could enjoy it. I came in expecting a romance, but I got nothing instead. Love, to me, refers to actions, and the people they become because of love.
In contrast to the other reviewer, I believe this story as over. The conclusion is bittersweet, as said, but that's just how the author wished to end things.
Spoiler

This is an actual spoiler. The author truely belives that Love is a feeling. that a feeling alone is enough for love. The novel ends in a tragic way, with all memeories being wiped of the happy times the ML and love intrest had, but yet the love interest retained the feelings of love they once had, and in the end they meet again to restrart thier relationship, with the basis of that being the feeling of love. which doesn't sit tight with me, who belives that love is something cultivated through action and the feeling of it is a mere byproduct.

Tsk, it seems my thought are not yet in order. I'll edit this when I'm ready. I appologize for this messy review.

This is my first time leaving a review for a book despite reading my entire life and starting NUF on the year of 2016.

I'm glad to have found this hidden gem. I was initially hesitant on reading due to the existence of a love game and that it would hinder the romance of the novel but boy I was wrong.

This story has sufficient heartbreak along with character growth all packed in 6 chapters. Despite my taste in reincarnation/xianxia and other common shounen tropes, I would say this is one of... more>> my favorite novels on this site and my bittersweet feelings and hope in the future for the characters will stay for a while.

My review might be a bit biased since I could relate to it more than other novels, but I believe you won't regret reading this novel. <<less

This definitely worth a read, regardless of what I have to say below.

This was going to be nearly my second favorite romance LN of all time...

until author-sensei decided kick the can down the road for what is obviously going to be volume 2, rather than wrapping up the story neatly in this volume. This story had major Bunny Girl Senpai volume 1 vibes and I was loving it, but the ending is really unsatisfying. Basically, the love interests sort of re-realize their erased love for each other, but we don't get the satisfaction of seeing that happy... so tune in next time for volume 2, where it'll probably get handled in the prologue. Sigh
