ZhouXiang didn’t know if God was giving him a second chance to live because he wanted to give him extra loving care or was it because he hasn’t messed with him enough.

Otherwise, how could it be that both in and out of his entertainment career, whether it was in his past life or his current life, YanMingXiu would consider him as the substitute for the same person.

He also didn’t know, between him and Young Master Yan, who was actually more pitiful; the one who could only be treated as a substitute or the one could only find a substitute.

In his past life, ZhouXiang was the stuntman for the big star WangYudong.

But not just as his martial art stuntman…..

Even within his deeply ill-fated relationship with YanMingXiu, he was also undeniably a complete substitute.

Disheartened, ZhouXiang went with a group of documentary film crew into the deep valleys of the treacherous mountains. Unexpectedly, he lost his footing and fell off a cliff .

When he awakened again, it was already two years later. Nevertheless, he awakened in another person’s body.

What is even more tragic is that he still couldn’t escape the fate of being a substitute…

T/N: 替身: Tishen is a person who replaces another; a substitute, in filming the tishen is a stuntman/body-double.

The writing and the whole storyline is really great. I'm someone that really immerse myself into the main character of every story so when I was reading this, it was kind of difficult to go on... Honestly, everything is great but there is a whole lot of miscommunication and misunderstandings. There are also oppressed feelings going on, especially for the male lead. I'm not too sure how to describe this novel but it has been a roller coaster ride for me. The story is a 9/10, the 1 point is... more>> because I can't handle the angst. But it has a HE so everything's great. Up till now I still feel horrible for the MC because he really went through a lot. I wouldn't be able to handle those shits if I were him but I guess that's what made me carry on reading.

I would definitely recommend everyone to try reading this because the storyline is great and the writing is awesome. It's definitely not a waste of time and if some of you guys are dissuaded by the reviews of others, I suggest you just ignore them and go ahead reading this because I never regretted coming across this novel. I guess it hit me really hard... <<less

my favorite part is the MC’s personality. He’s very down to earth.

everything else is ok. The ML is occasionally sweet.

I like how the author portrayed the difficulty in Chinese parents and family accepting their son being gay.

i cried so hard so many times that my eyes legit turned red.

Was a really nice detailed plot that resolved all the issues it presented. I don't feel like there's plothole or missing bit just wished there were more extras as a couple between the MC and ML.... more>>
Spoiler

The plot was amazing. I mean it went from the MC transmigrating to showing the past of what happened to him in his previous body/life.

The fact that the misunderstandings were so great it caused so much angst just made me wanna hug the author but also smack them. I mean I was asking for it but still. Out of the author's novels, this was one where there was no "rape" like feeling not cheating so it just made me ship the couple that much more. I've read Intoxication and Beloved Enemy both of the novels MLs were toxic so it was like you ship it but you know you shouldn't unconsciously. This one, the ML was an arse but he never claimed to "love" the MC, and didn't know that the guy he liked all along was actually the MC, so its like you can't be mad at him for long ????

[collapse]

BTW RosySpell was an A M A ZING translation group. I mean it didn't even feel like a translation it felt like the novel itself as an original. 11/10 on the translation. Thank you for translating this masterpiece and preserving it as a masterpiece ^^ <<less

Very exciting read. Pretty much all characters have a developed back-story. None of the characters are on a high horse of "moral integrity", not even the MC. The romance was like drinking lemonade where the honey got stuck at the bottom.
Lots of abuse of the ML as well which is strangely satisfying to read, heheh.

Great translation.

The story has a lot of angst and melodrama. Also, can anyone fall in love with someone's back?!......

What I dislike the most is the ending. Yes its a HE. But its not really resolved. The ML's grandfather is of the opinion that they don't need to deal with the situation because he thinks the MC and ML being so young will eventually fall out. But what about a few years later? Will they go through the same ordeal? The ML's mom has changed sides though....

Lot of angst with eventual... more>> HE. <<less

I like the author style specially when you want some pain and pleasure at the same time. I have read 3 novel of this writer where I could feel anger, smile, disappointment, and many more things that I usually don't experience in real life.

It is good I hope I could see more work like this with a better plot.

It was sooo angsty which I usually hate but unexpectedly enjoyed this time.

And ... more>>
Spoiler

I am totally against MC forgiving ML. That was unhealthy relationship they had in the beginning - incl. ML being jealous, selfish, kind of raping MC once - and I do not believe that people change their ways. Even if someone treats everyone except you as rubbish believe me there will be one day this person will treat you the same. So... for the story sake, ML changed but irl such things do not happen.

[collapse]

I really wish there was a story where MC just moves on in the end even if it is not easy for him. <<less

This novel is so incredibly sad that it can make you cry throughout it. And also there is so much drama and I think that I'm not the only sucker for it. There are so many misunderstandings that you know as a reader but the characters don't and it just had me screaming.

The story isn't really focused on any other plot other than the romance between the main characters, so it should be purely read as a romance novel.

Btw a warning: the ML is a fking as*hole that I think... more>> everyone agrees on. But that's acceptable because
-the MC knows that and shows it
-it adds to the drama
-the author doesn't romanticise his toxic behavior.

Just read it and have a good cry. <<less

Enjoy drama / angst / hidden-identities / separation / reunion / fake-amnesia / type stories?! ヽ (" ≫∇<) ノ

You've come to the right place! (。・//ε//・。)
.
I would recommend this if you're tired of super "pure" fictional characters. Both MC and ML have had previous relationships and they don't pretend to be anything other than hook-ups in the beginning.

Although I was super irritated at the ML in the first part of the book, I felt that by the end, he did get his retribution and it was pretty satisfactory.... more>> Also, the flashback/first-relationship was only about 1/4 of the story, so there's a lot of great post-rebirth parts about how the MC tried to make it work in his new body.

For me, none of the characters acted too annoying or immature. The ML is pretty spoiled/self-centered (but he's like super young), and the MC's personality is very generous/chill/easy-going, so I can see how they work together.

The hiding/angst is very strong (esp. After the MC was reborn and pretended he didn't know anyone) but I don't think any of the misunderstandings dragged for very long. Generally, the MC would confront the ML pretty quickly with his issues (within a couple days), so I support this couple's communication.

Pretty good translations, would reread again. <<less

4.5 / 5 Stars from me.

If you love to read dumb seme that realized his feeling after the uke is gone—you will love this. HAHAHAHA.

I seriously feel like to punch the ML at first. Like bruh, wake the f*ck up! And the MC... ah, the MC is a cinnamon roll, like a spicy cinnamon roll?
But in the end, you will feel bad for the ML. Like, both MC and ML is suffered.

Just read. The plot is good and did not make you bored.
I finished this... more>> story only a few days.

And thank you very much for the translation.<3 <<less

I love this story so much. It similar to the story You’ve Got Mail: A Cautionary Tale. ZhouXiang is in love with his lover so much; he became clingy. While his lover just used him as a substitute and not sure he love ZhouXiang back. The story is straight forward, tells about the couple a lot, there is misunderstood, and twist and turn. It talk about ZhouXiang past life before he got new ZhouXiang body. This definitely need be read.

The plot is quite good. The characters are also good. I like the MC . But its a story full of misunderstanding and regrets. And sprinkled in with one or two dubious consent s*x.

The relationship is quiet toxic so read af your own violation.

The story itself can be given a 3.75/5, but the writing is a dismal 2/5.

Let me first vent my grievances about the writing, and then I'll proceed to talk about the story.

What irked me the most is that the author has the tendency to use the most sexist ways to describe characteristics she deems unflattering. For instance, the author will say, 'He wasn't a scheming woman' or 'he didn't want to act like a girl.' It looks like the author either doesn't have a rich vocabulary or has a very... more>> prejudiced opinion of women. It was grating to read these parts. Now, coming to the flow, it gets very melodramatic and feels absurd to the point of being comical. Also, smut scenes were described as if a 14-year-old wrote them. Who says 'warm meat hole' and 'tall met pole'? I mean, come on!

Okay, now that my grievances have been aired, let's talk about the story.

This is a good crematorium novel with a fair amount of dog blood. Is the ML scum in the beginning? Yes. Does he atone for his past wrongdoings? Also, yes. Was I, as a reader, able to forgive him? Yes.

In a major part, I was able to forgive the ML because he was 21 years old when the story began. He is childish, immature, exacting, stubborn, and doesn't know how to regulate or understand his feelings. Also, he isn't very deceptive; he's just plain cold. So, some of the blame lies with the MC for not catching on sooner. The MC is by no means a simpleton, but in matters of the heart, he feels a bit dense. It was also hard to understand why some side characters were obsessed with the MC.

Overall, this story will keep you hooked and probably consume you for a few days, but it won't stay with you afterwards. <<less

BEWARE of SPOILER

Yan Ming Xiu, ML, cameo in an ABO novel also written by Shui Qian Cheng. This novel received a lot of 1 star on NU because of the substitute plot.

Basically, Yan Ming Xiu had a crush on a guy's back and because he couldn't get that guy (he mistook someone else as the guy and that someone else was in a relationship with his sister), he hired (old) Zhou Xiang (MC) to be the substitute. And when he realized that he had fallen in love with (old) Zhou... more>> Xiang, who was assumed dead, he hired (young) Zhou Xiang to be the substitute. Then he realized that the guy, (old) Zhou Xiang, and (young) Zhou Xiang were basically the same person.

The first 1/3 was about Yan Ming Xiu and (old) Zhou Xiang, the next 2/3 was about him and (young) Zhou Xiang, and the rest was after he found out everything and started chasing his 'wife'.

Yan Ming Xiu was ice cold (the usual CEO characteristics in most novels/dramas) when it came to everyone else but, towards the one he loved, he's practically a child; especially so towards Zhou Xiang. I found it endearing and annoying at the same time. Zhou Xiang once mentioned that he couldn't be angry too long with Yan Ming Xiu because of this.

Do take note that most of Shui Qian Cheng novels have r*pae tag on it. Including this one. <<less

Looking at the elements of a good crematorium novel...

Dog blood/abuse: yes, good enough. Acceptable levels for me without going overboard. Yes, ML is an as*hole for taking MC as a body substitute (more physical) but the emotional aspect of ML falling for MC is sufficiently clear.

'Revenge' phase where ML gets his just desserts: ok, could be better. ML's suffering was somewhat satisfying, but it's obvious that ML was too young and immature in the pre-death phase such that it's frustrating because MC is in a different life stage/view on... more>> life altogether. The growth and character progression for ML was too sudden for me that made it unbelievable; maybe some earlier understanding of his military family background creating his cold personality would have helped make him more likeable.

Chasing and forgiveness: Too short, makes MC look like an indecisive loner who is a face-con that is a bit desperate for love. Sorry, he's not a strong enough character for my taste. Most of the novel is him being treated as a substitute and him slowly/suddenly realising that hey that's not what I want, but gets subverted so quickly with just, if I recall correctly, two main bursts of confession (speech) from ML. He has moments of 'no I will not fall for this', 'if the relationship were defined as casual I will not get emotionally involved' where he is on the edge of being a great likeable character for me, since I enjoyed and understood his casual attitude to life with his financial/familial/s*xual orientation backstory. But he throws it out the window without sufficient build up—like his mental state never wavered before his new identity was revealed even with so many hints along the way, then suddenly he flips a switch after.

Like even in MC's career he can't get it together. At multiple points he's like no, I just want a stable income and that's enough. Continuously gets whacked by the industry and the guy he's substituting for multiple time (revenge for this part was not very satisfying also). Says no, doesn't need ML's help/investment. But then just goes along and relies on his friends and ML and doesn't have a strong go-getter attitude to start somewhere new or do something different for goodness sake. I would be fine if it were justified properly why he chose (yes I think the lead up to his situation tried to make it seem like there was no choice, but really there was still a choice) to take the same path again vs pre-death but it was not really.

Eventual fluff: pretty good from an objective lens... but I was too upset from the previous stage of insufficient unsatisfying chasing that I couldn't properly enjoy the fluff.

Overall, I enjoyed most of the novel, up till chapter 70-ish? At that point, wished the ML were more mature (his suffering was clearly articulated which was great, but the source of his intense emotions were not clear) but could still appreciate the drama. Then it became an itch I couldn't properly scratch. Had the potential to be so much better. Did not cry while reading. <<less

Too much of a dogblood drama but the story"s interesting. I felt so angry with Mingxu and felt pity with Zhou Xiang. No lies tho, I felt so frustrated with both of them haha.

But glad that it's still an HE.

Read this twice. It’s very heart wrenching — and tear jerking. Very tragic but the ending is happy. Just the journey getting there was difficult.
