Praying for Fate

BeiTang MinQian:

He is a world class super model and is the only son and heir to a prestigious aristocratic family.

Because of the pressure as the family’s sole successor, he must face the norms of an expected societal marriage.

Su YuanHeng:

He is a talented neurosurgeon and was an orphan abandoned at an orphanage.

A chance encounter during a surgery led him to fall in love at first sight with the then 14 years old, BeiTang MinQian.

But the childhood trauma of being abandoned by his father had cast a dark shadow in his heart that is impossible to be erased.

These factors caused their ambiguous relationship to be even more unsettled. Before everything even became clear, an even bigger ‘random incident’ unexpectedly occurred —

Facing a relationship that is full of cracks, the ‘fate’ that God bestowed upon them… is it actually deep or shallow?

At night, when Su YuanHeng is lying on the big cold bed by himself, the blistering heated air obstructed his breathing.

He turned on the air conditioner to high. Wrapped in a thin blanket, he tossed and turned in bed. The days without BeiTang MinQian by his side, he thought that he was already used to it. But when this person came back for just one night, his pathetic body still longed for his embrace.

Su YuanHeng slowly closed his eyes and dazily reminisced about his very distant past. His father had once held him in his arms, mumbling tenderly, “Xiao Li, FeiLi…the meaning of this name is ‘never to leave forever.’ You must remember…”

“Remember…”

“Daddy, I remember, but what about you? You still left me…”

Even the person that is by his side, there is going to be that day when he will also leave him …

┐ ( ̄ー ̄) ┌ This is... okay.

I think it started out good, but there's a serious lack of communication and trust between the main couple. The MC is EXTREMELY self-effacing and lacking in self-confidence. Any of his worries he keeps inside and he constantly thinks that the ML will leave him. The ML is arrogant, assholish, selfish, etc. and pretty much does what he wants.

In their 6 year relationship the ML even...

Spoiler

cheated & had flings with other people.

[collapse]

Even though the author wrote that they didn't define their relationship (or that it was an open relationship) and the MC never got mad at the ML for doing those things. BUT, that wasn't because the MC was ok with it, it was because he was afraid the ML would leave him if he spoke up.

Thus we have an extremely UNEQUAL emotional relationship. Now, that's not necessarily a problem.

The problem is, this is never resolved throughout the story. We get 1-2 lines about how the ML felt guilty for not giving the MC any sense of trust or stability for all those years, BUT he NEVER EXPRESSES IT in person to the MC.

Thus, the entire issue is unresolved, including

Spoiler

at the very last chapter when he proposes marriage, the MC STILL found it hard to believe that it was real or would last.

[collapse]

Normally, when you have such a big disconnect between the couples, the author would make some effort to get them on the same page. Unfortunately, it wasn't very successful here. In the end, the reader still gets left with a vague feeling of discontent and disbelief instead of a real happy ending.

Spoiler

Plus, there's no assurance that the ML will not cheat again during their marriage. =| At the very least, the author should have written some kind of promise from the ML that he will only be with the MC.

Literally you only get this line where the ML is like "oh those were just flings, my heart still belongs to the MC." Yeah, I can see how he'll continue to use that "reasoning" to have further "flings" after their marriage.

[collapse]

There are lots of romance stories where the main angst/conflict is from miscommunication. They are done LOADS better than this one. For example, I'll probably recommend [Ever Since I Take Home An Adonis Who Has Lost His Business] if you like short stories that are actually good with a good main couple.

The translation was pretty good though there were some issues with the flow at some parts. <<less

The best Mpreg novel there is imo.

The story is about MC, who had been abandoned by his father and now has a trauma and fear of abandonment as well as an inferiority complex. He has been with ML for a long time in an ambiguous relationship (they haven't stated an attached lover relationship in the beginning). ML is the heir to a big family/company and is expected to marry and produce an heir.

Then it's basically alot of miscommunication and angst:

Spoiler

ML returns from his 6 month trip after thinking about his feelings for MC and realizes that he loves MC and wants to stay together with him. But his sister gets in the way and tells him about the heir thing. MC & ML get into a quarrel and don't see each other for about 1 1/2 months and MC finds out he is pregnant. When he returns home ML is in america handling family business, but as MC is in an unstable position he can't take the plane until he sees a newspaper article about ML being engaged. Then miscommunication yada yada yada

It's basically very sentimental but MC & ML are at least aware of their feelings for each other and have to work them out together.

[collapse]

about the Mpreg tag:

Spoiler

The author tries to explain the phenomen of a 'Mo Ye person' with biology. I don't really remember very well but yeah. Anyway I really like the Mpreg ocurrence in this novel, as you follow MC through his pregnancy and also through his birth!! The pregnancy aspect is mostly skipped by other mpreg novels so I like that this story has (well basically) a concept about it and shows the MC handling the pregnancy.

[collapse]

the novel is also supposed to be a Modernization of 'My Wangfei is a Man', well it's actually just the main characters reincarnations (they have no memories of their past lives whatsoever, just feel familiar with each other) But it is a very great novel and definitely worth a read! <<less

I find the ML this time is not as despicable as his past self Beitang Ao. Although he is still a scum gong. Having flings even when he is in a relationship. Unlike Beitang Ao, this Beitang MinQian knows how and when to take his responsibilities and wasn't dense enough to deny his feeling. And the MC is not as dependent as the past Yan Feili. Though I'm still raise my brows at a fully grown man with a successful career could be so short minded sometimes. For a short... more>> story, its is quite readable. Thanks for translating. <<less

[NOTE: This is the story of the reincarnated versions of Yao Yue's parents, Beitang Ao & Yan FeiLi!]

Shou has severely low self-esteem due to abandonment. The conflict are just little silly misunderstandings in the end. This does not have any overreacting drama (NOT CANCEROUS! THANK GOD!) so I enjoyed the ups and tumbles in their relationship. It does not go deeper which is understandable given it's short duration but it delivered it's satisfying happy ending for a #moye (men that can get preggy). Not one of the best novels I've... more>> read but it's decent enough to pass time for your #perfect ceo x ordinary MC, #cinderalla-ish #mpreg cravings. <<less

Usual yaoi fanfare. Rich, hot, caring, kind and multitalented ML with kind, angsty, beautiful, MC.

Atleast, that's what the book makes out its main characters to be. It's all the same things that you would ever find in a classic yaoi plot. Nothing new here. Take plot, add mpreg, rinse repeat.

What I mean is that this book is nothing but a waste of time, if anything. I hate plots like these. The miscommunication trope isn't even written well. MC lets himself be trampled over because of ML's inherent luminent personality. He... more>> suffers with all the bullsh*t ML dumps on him simply because his character can't grow a spine!

I know good angst when I see it. This ain't it bruh. The romance feels artificial and I cringed my way through 27 chapters of crap.

ML gets engaged in america but,
Spoiler

surprise surprise, he isn't

[collapse]

This plot is so lame, it was good. It gave me a few laughs due to its absurdity.

In short, if you have enough time to waste, like me, go ahead, cringe!

But if not,

This probably wouldn't have been a story if not for the excessive miscommunication. I'm still pissed on how they never went over ML's promiscuous phase where he had "some flings" whilst in the entertainment industry. Pretty good writing on the mpreg though - I'm so uncomfortable from reading all the little details! Once again, wish the MC had a backbone.

Disappointing story

What I didn't like:

1. This was a total disappointment... more>>
Spoiler

ML had s*x with others during their 6 year relationship. Because he was often away for long periods of time and because he works in showbizz. MC never questioned him about this and ML never tells

2. Both ML and MC are child prodigies. ML was a CEO since he was 14 (????) and MC a neurosurgeon since he was 17. This is explained in chapter 1. Really author??? Come on! Such exaggeration really is too unbelievable.

3. Misunderstanding till the end and MC avoids bringing it up. Bleh... <<less

If you go into this having read My Wangfei is a Man and especially Broken Bonds, you will have a good idea already of the story and its beginnings. I love My Wangfei is a Man, and I have read what's available of Broken Bonds, so I understood going into it that there's way more than its fair share of angst, because we understand that it's the story of the reincarnations of Beitang Ao and Fei Li, the parents of Yao Yue from My Wangfei is a Man. And you... more>> should suspend all notions of reality because this is a series steeped in fantasy and martial arts. So you know that Beitang is seriously a Beitang, cold and more than a little selfish, while his wangfei is warm but seriously in need of some love and self esteem. Their issues could be settled by a little communication but, as they are men this gives way to the whole stereotype that men don't talk, don't communicate and that causes more than a little friction and in one scene, outright s*upidity as you have to wonder how he doesn't know his mate after all those years that he wouldn't know he has a twin? For god's sake, twins are a recurring theme throughout the series! But--not all is lost or hopeless.

I disagree with those who say they don't seem to love each other. I think there are multiple ways we can see they love each other--it's just not surface, and it is noticeable that they hold true to the notion of not holding each other accountable. I have seen that in so many stories where the man is wealthy.

Going back to the origins of the Beitang clan, you have to remember that General Fei Li was so much like the uke, almost to the point of distraction. When you read the uke's story, you remember that the General was the same, and when we are given that ninth inning emotional wallop, it's painful and poignant because you remember the General and how hard his life was, but he was one hell of a Diedie to his kids, right Yao Yue?

It isn't smooth sailing for these two but they'll figure it out, come what may. <<less

Generally, this was a good read. No braindead 2D characters so this novel could be appealing to a more mature audience.

I'm a bit conflicted about the ML. While he does genuinely love the MC, he did cheat on the other several times. But since he doesn't have any feelings for his various flings, it is supposed to be fine. If he can excuse his cheating so easily by separating lust and love, what prevents him from doing it again? Call me narrow-minded for all I care, but his casual cheating... more>> makes me want to light his ass on fire.

In face of such a ML, it is easier to sympathize with the MC who has abandonment issues from past trauma and low self-esteem. He really deserves better than what the ML put him through for several years. All that emotional neglect and cheating on the ML's side is a bitter pill to swallow. At least, the MC got his happy end. Although, it still feels more bittersweet for me since I just can't get over what had happened before. <<less

This must be the most uneventful novel I've read. Nothing ever happened. I would have changed the title to "The boring daily life of a pregnant man" if I were the author.

Spoiler

The delivery scene wasn't bad, as I've never read about how males give birth so explicitly before

[collapse]

The little suspense in the story came from their lack of communication, everything could have been solved within one chapter if they just sat and talk like any other adults. Also the way they just fell in love at first sight only because they were the reincarnation of their past lives didn't sit well with me. The ending was obvious, I don't even know why I finished it completely.

The only good point is the translation. Thanks a lot for your great job dear translator ❤️ <<less

MC has abandonment issues and ML is not very affectionate, but theyve been together for 6 years at the start of the story.

There's some misunderstandings, but no real villain. The narrative is pushed by the characters' own insecurities.

Plot circles around MC and ML's S stacks and stacks of miscommunication. Tbh, I think the relationship between the two is forced and lacks proper foundation. I also don't like the fact that ML had flings before and doesn't even feel a lil bit of guilty about it. The feeling I get from reading this is as if MC and ML had a shut gun marriage, you know the feeling is there but it's not enough to the point you could trust it to stay forever. I feel like if... more>> not for their children, this relationship will break easily.

The translation is really great grammar-wise. 10/10 kudos to translator. Thanks for picking this up.

It's not one of my greatest reads but I rlly like how the mpreg theme has been used hence giving it a 4/5. Wishing for a more stories with this theme. <<less

Still scum, but a definite upgrade from his past life. Not much to say about it tbo, kind of confused if they still in the same universe just x years later, or in a different world which shares some similarities with it, cause the cultivation aspect is gone completely but the Beitang are mentioned to be huge historic family, and that they have a Moye ancestry. The whole chromosome shtick is baloney. It can def be read independently of the original story.

Well, the ML wasn't as scum as I imagined the story will take it (not sure about his past life though, I didn't read about it, and is currently not interested enough in it). I just found the premise rather interesting on how there were prequels and sequels, reincarnations, and whatnot. It's a really short and sweet read, with a little angst (just a bit if you are a frequent angst reader).

Exceptionally suitable if you just want to take a short angst trip with HE after reading a fluffy love... more>> story. <<less

It's a good angsty story.

The MC has insecurities. The ML has a bit cold personality.

After years being together with their unclear relationship and many misunderstanding plus lack communication, finally they become a healthy couple.

The progress is nice to see.
