She is a top-class spy, a poison specialist, but also a young and cute girl with a sinister temperament. In spite of her sweet and innocent appearance, she can complete any tasks without the slightest hesitation. One day because of an incomplete black magic, she was sent into the body of a girl who was deemed as a good-for-nothing. What kind of change will she bring to this continent?

A Prince said with bitter hatred, “I thought she was weak and easily bullied, therefore I broke off the engagement. I really didn’t expect she is such a shrewd girl. I made an error of judgment.”

The Crown Prince deeply sighed, “She is such a sexy evildoer! Obviously, she has a frail and tender body, but I am not able to overwhelm her…”

Finally, an Emperor hit the nail on the head, “She is just a bit two-faced!”

She answered, “You’re just a big pervert!”

The Emperor carried her into the room and said, “You are predestined to be mine! A two-faced girl and a pervert are a perfect match, right?!”

This review is as at c2253 of the chinese raw and will contain some spoilers
TL;DR: its romance, with abit of comedy. Emphasis on romance.

Spoiler

- Unlike many other novels in the series, time travel does play a pretty large (and interesting) role in the series.
- Chapters are short, and unfortunately the author has a habit of really dragging out arcs, so if you don't like a particular arc be prepared to have to skim through tons of chapters
- The side characters mentioned in the synopsis basically disappear from ~c1k onwards, however, before that there is good continuity whereby the author does try to let them appear every now and then.
- Nonetheless, as I mentioned, this is a romance story, and it will revolve (particularly the later chapters) around the romance of the MC and her husband.
- There is tragedy in the novel, it basically reads like a historical k-drama (think Da Chang Jin)
- While the old tropes such as the spoilt young master do exist in the novel, the author manages to get better later on whereby some characters aren't just the typical stereotypes.
- Some parts of the novel will not be from the main character's perspective
- While the novel appears to be comedic earlier on, note that the focus shifts to romance later on, and as such take note of this.
- A large part of the novel revolves around misunderstandings, which can understandably get pretty frustrating, but that's how it is.
- Circa chapter 1k of the novel there's basically a wipe of all the old characters, and the MC basically starts afresh.
- The novel is still ongoing
- Be prepared for feels later on in the novel (the poor MC has a pretty tragic life, which gets explained later on)

WARNING: This novel is for readers who have an insane amount of patience. But if you're like me, a person who has zero tolerance for stories with nonsensical plots, no character development, and 100+ chapters of pure filler, STAY THE EFF AWAY!

I finally stopped reading this novel at 300+ chapters, but I noticed the red flags way before that. For one, the MC was a total Mary Sue with a serious case of Special Snowflake Syndrome. So... you say an average person can't do XXX? Well, Xuemo can, because she's... more>> SPESHUL. Seriously, she has an unrealistic amount of talent and luck (even compared to other novels on this site, which is really saying something). And, of course, the must-have harem.

Spoiler

"At this moment, an average person would only scream and panic, in addition to be completely flustered.

However, Ning Xuemo was not an average person. Her mentality was stronger than a normal persons, thus, in this critical moment, her mind remained exceptionally sober and calm!

Despite the dangerous situation, it only took Ning Xuemo two seconds to be able to completely focus her thoughts, which was not something an ordinary person can do! This girl certainly had good potential... "

... Sound familiar?

Well, if you're going to read this, then get used to it, because that's basically the plot of the whole novel.

[collapse]

If you're just here for the romance, you're not going to find THAT, either, because she only holds an actual conversation with the male lead after 200+ chapters. At which point, the already trashy plot-line has degenerated into a pile of mindless garbage and has strayed SO far away from the original story. Wouldn't be surprised if even the author had no idea what's going on.

I wish I had a hard cover copy of this book. So I could personally burn it. <<less

The saying "curiosity kills a cat" never been so true until now in my case. Reading the translated chapters, I was eager to read more as the female MC has an awesome attitudes/personalities. It's practically drained me as I read on. I'm the type that really don't like reading tragedy as it will give me a depress feeling afterward. I guess I'm a crybaby cause I was crying a river reading the raws.

Well the beginning arc, there is comedy but as you go on hardly there is comedy anymore, it's... more>> concentrated more on romance.

Starcross lovers is the very definition of the two main characters.
The story is full of misunderstandings, bad choices that mc/characters regretted afterward, so much angsts, not to mention the mandatory amnesias.

It has what I would call sub stories too for the supporting characters. They have their own stories to tell too as their fates intertwine somehow or another with the mains. Some characters only introduced during the arc and hardly or never heard again.

The story crosses time and space and reincarnations.

The newest chapter is like 2300 ish I'm not sure if the author going to make it happy ending or tragedy but there are a lot of tragedies already in the arcs. <<less

Whilst I enjoyed the novel to begin with, the novel started to lose it's focus and whilst it is common in these types of novels to go full on deus ex machina, it've never seen a story that manages to build up so nicely and then suddenly lose it's plot cohesiveness. At this point in the story, I have absolutely no idea what the goal is for the main character, nor does she have any clue as to how to get to that goal, all she seems to be doing... more>> is get dragged along with whatever ends up popping out of deus ex land and being dragged along like the camera she is. She has many impressive skills but never has a chance to properly use them, there's no cohesive plot, no plan, which makes the read it self taxing. It feels as if a magic eight ball helped decide what direction the story should take. <<less

I'm writing this to warn all you readers out there... If you can't stomach tragedy, then please don't read this story.

It starts out lighthearted and comedic at first, but when you go 1000+ chapters into the story (I read the raws) it's freaking depressing.

Although the Ancestor (His actual name is Shen Jiu Li, where his surname is Shen which literally means God) at one point of time) fell deeply in love with the MC, this story is so freaking sad I feel like my heart is being stabbed a million times. MC and Jiu Li will fall in love, but he'll later on completely forget about the MC.

Also, the red cloth evildoer that the MC always calls (Xue Yi Lan) falls extremely hard for the MC... But I won't say what he's done has helped her much. He's extremely obsessive about the MC... At least there was one point of time he saved the MC, but he kept her away from the rest of the world for 10 years (Read the raws yr own hah)

Anyways this freaking story has so much tragedy. The author makes even the side characters die without batting an eyelash. It's a freaking tradegy story. If u can't take tragedy, don't read it.

However, ill still rate this story 4 stars. As much of it is a tragedy, I can't stop reading because it's still really good. Warning though, I have a problem of not being able to drop this story. If you're considering of reading this one, my advice is to completely not touch it if you're the type that can't stand non happy endings.

I can see how this series is a tragedy orz

The ML is an idiot.... he uses every opportunity to make the mc's life difficult and he is suprised why she doesnt like him... he also tampers with her memories at some point

The second ML is awesome and in any other novel he would have been the main love intrest.... Heck even her ex fiance is better than the ML!

I really dont undestand why the MC just dont run away from everything while giving everyone the middle finger orz

This is another former assassin MC reincarnated, that does not act like an assassin. The MC leaves her enemies that she is able to kill with her current power alive, for some reason. The MC is funny, so the story was not half bad. She also met a beast companion with a rare background I have not read in wuxia/xianxia novels, but the author did not develop the companion, and it turned more to a pet at home that was forgotten.

There were many inconsistencies, but two in particular made me... more>> drop the series. There was an area where no one, but the owner is allowed to enter, and then an exception was made for the MC to enter as well. About a chapter or more focused on the unprecedented exception made for someone else to enter and it has never happened before. Then, in the next few chapters the exception was completely ignore and others were able enter with no problems. The second instance was when one of the mc's enemies did not kill the MC because he felt pity for her. The pity came from the same enemy that humiliated, beat, framed and schemed to kill the MC several times, and then he feels pity for the MC. Is the author intending to force a romance with this character? <<less

I really enjoy the main character's personality and resourcefulness. The interactions between the main character and male lead are also enjoyable when the author isn't throwing misunderstandings and tragedy in their way. However, I went into this without knowing how much tragedy would be in it. Don't be fooled by the comedic undertone in the beginning.

Spoiler

I swear the author loves being sadistic toward their main character. After a certain point in the story, anytime the main character becomes remotely happy, be prepared for her to get slapped into hell (not literally, but she might as well be there). You'll be a lot less appalled by the horrible things that happen to her. If it's not the MC suffering, it's the male lead or a side character.

The author also seems to enjoy torturing the readers as much as the main character. The storyline often drags; this trait of the author's writing persists even during the arcs where the main character is suffering. It's fine to want the readers to understand the horrible things the MC is experiencing, but when this goes on for tens and tens of chapters, I just want to bang my head into a wall several times. Some people probably enjoy this type of writing, but I find it unpleasant.

So with all that, why did I rate this 4 stars? Well, I read it this far, didn't I? There's probably something I liked about it enough to stick with it so long despite all the tragedy. The story can be pretty interesting if you can get past all that. Besides, a little bit before where I am now, things finally lighten up again. Yeah, that's like ~1000+ chapters (the turning point of the story into a swamp of angst is around ch.1000ish) of huge misunderstandings/tragedy, but at least it eventually stops. For now. Haha. Who knows if the author will put us through some more of that later... There are in-universe reasons for why the MC suffers so much, but I still think it's just an excuse for the author to torture their MC and us. Hahaha.

Also, even though I say it's like 1000+ chapters of angsty suffering, it isn't like extremely horrible things happen that whole time. It'd be more accurate to say that usually one big misunderstanding/horrible situation is ongoing for awhile as a backdrop to the other things happening, then that ends and another horrible situation happens and is ongoing, etc. Once in awhile, something more extreme on the horrible-and/or-tragic-events scale will pop up. There ARE some more neutral or lighthearted moments to balance the mood a little, so you should enjoy those when you can.

Honestly, I probably only stuck with it so long because after reading about all the horrible crap that the MC suffers through, I just wanted to see her get to be happy for once without getting slapped into hell. I'm glad the raws are up to a point where things finally seem to be going okay for her.

even though the ML's pain is not to be overlooked but in my opinion the MC made up for it all. Not to mention the ML gives up easily...

I don't know. I honestly do not like this book. It's an endless game of you-run-I-chase and I-run-you-chase. It's so tiring.

If you like a lot of misunderstandings between the MC and ML and a heck ton of reader-frustration, go ahead and read this book. <<less

A very satisfying read~

I like the funny and bubbly yet indifferent bad ass attitude of the female lead. She just don't know where to stop being interesting and she keeps making me laugh along with her weird thoughts and ruthless adventure. Volarenovels are always topnotch with their translation and I'm just very happy and contented with it! There's also a lot of hot guys that wants her but she doesn't give a damn so it's all the more funny.

Dropped this novel bcause 1st and foremost, the male lead is unbearably despicable. Far worst than Xiao Tianyao!

Other potential male leads are also just for show. Can't be relied on during crucial times Hmpf!

FL facing hurdles one after the other becomes unbearable to read adding to that the ML being a psycho during those times.

One of those typical transmigration-reincarnation-OP-because-skilled-in-former-life-special (whew, finally made it) novels.

It was very frustrating and irritating because of the constant inconsistencies and the lack of direction in the novel. What is the MC doing??? Why is this novel even here? She wakes in blabla land and encounters blabla situations and there on????? What the hell is she cultivating??? The always sudden encounters with things do a rather poor job of introducing other parts of storylines.

The world building is rather shitty, and even shittier character build, and watching as the very non-in... more>> depth gallery of male characters awe at her is rage inducing because it's f*cking boring.

e.g. The MC was barbecuing meat for those disciples of bright reverence sect (apologies if the name is wrong haha), everyone had eaten her cooking and there was no comment about it. Then suddenly, when travelling with baby ancestor, she turns out to be awfully horrible at cooking (what???)

I'd recommend it as a filler novel if you have to, but other than that, no thank you. <<less

I'd really like to be able to give it 3.5 instead of 3, but in my book it's not quite a 4 either...

Anyway, the start (chapters are short, so 60 chapters is not that much content) is fairly well written and translated, but also not very inspired.

A MC that was highly skilled, goes into the body of a "trash" girl from a ruined noble family that died while being wronged and abused.
A prince she is promised to that wants to cancel the fiancé thing (and potentially kill her).
A... more>> girl that wants the prince and that wants the MC dead for her "relationship" with him.
Remaining family intent on bullying her if/when she gets anything good.
Various jealous characters of high nobility and royalty abusing their powers everywhere.

This start is ripe with clichés, and only the fact that it is written by a competent writer and translated in mostly proper english saves it.

I do hope that it gets better after this, but so far this follows the trope of Chinese stories about a female spec op/assassin reincarnating into a "trash" body, assuming control and finding love in a different world.

I get that placing the MC in difficult situations, showing the corrupted system and all that is somewhat needed to make the male protagonist look good in comparison, but after reading 2-3 of those, you will start to see so many things in common that you will start to wonder if it's not a group of authors that found a rough script and all decided to build on it.

Anyway, it is not bad in itself, just not great either, sadly. <<less

What is worst than a 40 years old virgin? A 2000 years old virgin, plus hes the Male Lead.

Theres no romance in this novel, just one sided bullying. MC cant even put a bit resistances since the ML is too op for her. So its like marry him or die! So gangsta, yet so lame ML. I want another ML! Ridiculous plot. The author doesn't have any goal in his writing, the plot is flowing like a leaf in the stream, everything depends on authors whim.

Just one star for me. Really wasted my time reading. How should I put this, the story has nothing to be appreciated about, it's like random things being filled in the blanks.

Those with nothing better to do and have high tolerance for being annoyed and have tons of patience, go ahead and give this wn a try.

I agree with someone's review, once MC left her residence (runs away) the story after that is totally unrelated to what's going on previously. I don't really see MC cultivating or what not, just... more>> journey through the mountains aimlessly. One really need alot, I mean really tons and tons patience to read this super slow growth story.

I stopped at c250 as I don't see what's the purpose of continuing to read of an uncertain heading of the story and I'm lack of patience just to scourge the endless surface of a deeper/longer journey.

Oh a big thumbs-up for the translation work though, it is nicely done 😁 <<less

Lots of misunderstandings here. Intially the FL and ML relationship was fine and dandy until the ML got amnesia. He forgot their loving relationship and it was all downhill from there. ML is really proud and FL suffers most in the relationship. I just wish the ML would put down his pride and clear up the misunderstandings, but no, he doesnt bother and lets her keep wondering. And we got a supporting male lead who will always support the FL. I feel bad for this guy, he has his shortcomings but overall he is still a pretty good guy. I wouldnt mind if he ended up with the FL, and now my heart feels sorry for his loyal heart. And the ML, I feel like this guy needs to do better, I havent forgiven this guy for slapping the FL after her miscarriage. I feel like he got off cheap. Sure you found her again, and saved the world, but then left and now your loved ones suffer. Why you doing this Ms. Author!😤 All this tragedy got me crying and tearing up😭

Other than all the tragedy and heartache, I enjoyed the past lives, especially the 1st life when she was born and chasing the Male God.

This book was one of my top favorites for a while until the releases became slower, but anyway, it's still pretty good. Many MCs boast of being second to none in this and that, but I feel that Ning Xuemo, the MC of this novel, did it in a way that was less arrogant and not just for the convenience of certain plot developments. For now, she's not some kind of OP MC with every kind of power. But that's alright because she has tons of her modern life knowledge... more>> to help her, and she is starting to slowly get more powerful in her cultivation. She's one of the few cultivation novel MCs that I wholly love without picking too many faults.

The plot of the story started off with a bang with all this excitement going on, and then it slowed down a little when the author was unnecessarily stretching the word count, but it picked up again. Ning Xuemo was a little unpredictable at times, and I like that because she usually surprised us in a good way. Back when I was too impatient to wait for updates, I actually went ahead a few hundred chapters by google translating the raws. The quality of the machine translator wasn't the best (obviously, when is google translate ever good?) but I understood enough and the plot was a wild roller coaster of emotion. But I find that to be a good thing because if I really want to read a light, easy novel, I can simply find plenty of those is a sea of hundreds. I've already have quite a few of those that I'm reading. This is one of the ones I keep reading to give me feels. And it's working.

For a while, I wasn't really sure who exactly the Male Lead was. I had my suspicions about one guy, but then another guy popped up and made me confused (but I'm no longer confused anymore, I know who it is). There were a couple of guys I wouldn't have minded being the Male Lead because surprisingly, they were actually quite interesting and not like those completely stereotypical XianXia secondary male leads. If Ning Xuemo had ended up with any of them, I would have been alright with it. But at the point in the story where the translations on Novel Updates are currently at, her love life is pretty wild.

This book is definitely recommended to people like stories with some cultivation and a super slow romance (not Posion Genius Consort slow though). The MC and the ML are more at the love-hate stage right now rather than completely ignoring each other. But maybe calling it a love-hate relationship in the latest chapters would be a bit of a stretch since she genuinely doesn't like the Male Lead right now. And I'm glad for that or I would have lost some respect for her if she forgot all her dislike for him just because he happens to be drop-dead gorgeous. But from what I've seen in the later chapters on the machine translation (which wasn't so bad), their relationship does get better and spicier. <<less

A decent story to pick up if you're in the mood for transmigrated powerful female protagonists, but not one to eagerly wait for. As a plus, the quality of the translation is very good.

It starts with the introduction of several intriguing characters which, unfortunately, get ditched to the side as the author steamrolls the action forward at breakneck speeds. After one problem is resolved another immediately rises to take its place. Neither the reader nor the protagonist has any time to simply stop, breathe, and take in the situation. The... more>> pacing gives me the impression that the author simply wanted to throw the main character from one area to the next as quickly as possible at the cost of leaving behind unresolved problems and side characters whom the readers had just started to like. This seems to be one of those stories where the protagonist rapidly gains rare items and abilities to solve current problems, only to completely forget about them with the next set of obstacles - everything is directed by the author's whims, rather than any attempt to create a cohesive story. The first hundred or so chapters are entertaining enough, but I lost faith in the story after that. <<less
