Still early days, so who knows. But so far it's... alright. It's going to be one of those clueless-badass setups, with the MC not even knowing what's happening as the powerful people around change the world because of him.

The translation is... iffy. It starts basically okay but the latest few chapters have substantially declined. I haven't knocked any stars off for it just yet, in hopes the last few chapters were a fluke.

Edit: Knocking off a star because the translator is throwing self-promotion into the middle of every chapter. What... more>> a way to break the flow... And how aggravating to be constantly told to do the thing you're already doing. At least most DRM isn't bypassed with the simplest regex... why make it so easy for others to provide a superior reading experience? I don't get it. <<less

The Chess Player. Beware of his interference! None shall leave his notice. If you're involved in the event that accured in this City, that means you're already a part of his Board! This City is his Domain.

Okay okay, I have to admit, the start of this novel isn't really the best of things to read. It doesn't go into details of things, it makes the MC looks s*upid which by the way (He absolutely is not).

Here's the thing here ladies and gentlemen, this novel follows the... more>> usual troupe of "MC is an idiot and doesn't realize he's god of all things" BUT, what he actually really IS, is the personification of different Aspects of reality. Different Gods per say.

Let's go with the first one. Characters.
The Characters in this novel doesn't seem to be that much in early chapters as I've said, but claw your way through and you realize oh, they have their own stories. Everyone have their responsibilities and there are absolutely consequences in their actions. Some died, some failed. But it still follows the usual "Oh I have problems? Go to MC" because they think that the MC is their own Respective Gods envoy.

-MC, he's clueless as sh*t at the start, because he's just a normal dude who got the shtick with Aspects. But as he powers on through, he gradually start to plan everything out. And showed his prowess as the acclaimed "Chess Player" (A title everyone calls him because they think he's the one behind every actions, they even think he manipulates different gods and Disaster classes to do his bidding) It feels me with joy everything people react to the fact he's behind the event.

The Story. Ohhh the story, it goes through different arcs this one. Different problems and different gods. But the gist is that each Religious Organizations goes through reforms and plan to start wars because their call upon their Gods are finally answered (Gods as in MC basically). Some arcs are a bit confusing but it's still quite good.

Spoiler

I love how the final antagonist is basically the Writer of the whatever Novel the MC is actually inside, that's why he's surprised when MC is fighting back or even managed to manage his Aspects abilities.

Tobi already did a good explanation on this book so if you want to know what the book is about go there.

I'm going to focus on explaining why tweprebet's review is just wrong since most people that read it will get the wrong idea about the series. I'm going to put it in a spoiler just to compress the text, there shouldn't be anything that spoils the story inside of it.

Spoiler

So first of all he claims that the MC doesn't know what's happening and this is true to some degree, at the start the main character doesn't know what's going on but this novel the main character is actually smart (?) He will take actions to start learning about his abilities and the different undercurrents of the world unlike most other books in this genre where the MC just never gets what's going on for hundreds of chapters (For example "I'm actually a cultivation bigshot") so while I can understand why they have this complaint its not something that will last in the story. Personally I believe its better the way the author did it since now were learning with the MC rather than having the MC know but not the readers which tends to get rid of all tension in the story.

Next they complain that the translation is iffy but so far I haven't noticed anything that bad, there are of course a few here and there but at the end of the day you are accessing the content for free that someone translated in their own time. I also have no idea what their edit is referring to since either that self-promotion in the middle was removed or more likely its something so minor I skipped past it without thinking of anything. I can understand them getting upset at translators sites but from my experience this site was one of the better ones I have accessed from novel updates, I never had any issues with the next button and there were no glitches or anything and at the end of the day like I said before we are accessing this content for free. While I believe its okay to be upset that a website is hard to use you shouldn't complain and give a bad review on the SERIES because of something like the site being bad. Translators are doing this for practically nothing other than donations and a tiny bit of ad revenue so I don't really believe us readers have any right to complain, especially to the point of giving a lower review for it. The fact that they are lowering the rating for the SERIES because of the site is something I really dislike. When giving a star rating you are rating the book, not the translation. Its fine if you want to put a note in your review mentioning the site but that should not affect the review of the book. Plus unless they updated their chapters but the date didn't get updated with their edit then its impossible for tweprebet to be on chapter 28, said chapter was released on 03/07/22 while his review was posted 12/16/21. Mixed in with the fact that his review says "Status: c28" makes me more suspicious since chapter 28 was posted in two parts which means unless he manually entered his chapter it should be like mine where it says "c49 part3" rather than just c49. There's honestly a chance they were using a different site than the current translation at the time I'm writing this so what they are complaining about could be valid but no longer relevant but overall their review feels like someone who didn't give the book a fair shot and then gave it a low review because they disliked the site it was posted on.

I quite like this. Translation isn't perfect, but not so bad that it's an issue so far. (Mostly grammatical issues, I think.) To summarize: If you like "I'm Really Not The Demon God's Lackey" and/or "Lord of The Mysteries, " you should check this out. It has many similarities, but in a new/mixed way that feels like it was well done. If you haven't read either, you should check this out and consider looking at one of the other two if you like any of the ideas in it. Below... more>> I have kind of loosely listed what ideas are found in either of the two.

This feels heavily inspired by (if not directly taking from) "I'm Really Not The Demon God's Lackey" and "Lord of The Mysteries." Settings are very similar, as well as events, but the angle has been slightly changed. I'm not going to say it's bad or good for it, and it may be coincidental, but it feels like a fan of both wanted to do their own take on the concepts and has done so very well.

In "I'm Really Not The Demon God's Lackey" the MC runs a bookstore and has supernatural tendencies he's unaware of. Here, MC runs a cafe and has supernatural tendencies he's partly aware of. There are similarities between the side characters the MCs in both meet, and their relationship to one another, as well. There are some more similarities, but I won't go into them.

In "Lord of The Mysteries" the MC transmigrates in a similar fashion to this MC. In both, "names" of gods are important. From the description here you can get an idea of what it looks like. The relationship the MC has to most of the side characters, and how they perceive MC, is very similar. Items feel very similar between the two as well. I think it's worth a peek. <<less

interesting read with a great first half, decent middle, and a latter half that has some serious issues.

this as hard to rate as the first half had chapters I would rate as high as 4.5 but the second half fell apart in places with the lowest hitting around a 2. That may be due to the authors health issues or the shift in focus from plot to romance (thankfully NOT harem), or both. Final rating is 3.5

(Edit at the end.)

Chapter 28 Review:

TL;DR: Climaxes are anticlimactic, characters are flat, and the idea is unoriginal and not better than the original.

... more>> In books like these, all of the good parts are concentrated on the main character's badass moments. The flaws in world-building, character design, or whatever else can be ignored as that is not the purpose of the novel. We are merely spectators to the main character showing off, and that can surprisingly be executed very well.

However, that is not the case in this novel. The moments where the main character is showing off his immense godly power feel... rather boring. The descriptions don't feel particularly pleasant because of the subpar translation, the scenes are always full of the main character being awkward or ruining his image, and the showing off is just generally below average.

This would be acceptable if the rest of the book covered for it. If the characters were very fun or endearing, the climaxes wouldn't matter as much. But that is certainly not the case in this novel.

None of the characters so far have really left any impression on me. I'm not particularly excited to see any of them again. I don't really care for the one-dimensional character interactions either.

Even the world itself is very uninspired. This novel takes place in a generic city. There is nothing worth praising there.

I feel as if there is no anticipation in this novel. I don't look forward to much of anything in the future and just read on with glossy eyes.

It's mediocre, good enough to burn time if you have nothing else.

Chapter 70.2 Review:

TL;DR: Massive improvements in almost all areas I critiqued as if the author has finally found his pace. More worth it to read.

In the past ~40 chapters, the author seems to have really decided where he wants to go with this novel. The main character is starting to settle into the world and better portray the vibe of a godly being. The climaxes are more climactic, the plot is getting more engaging, and even the character design has become more involved.

Initially, the author didn't delve really whatsoever into side characters, but at this point, there are a couple that I like. This is rather rare considering this is a Chinese novel.

The only persisting downside is the translation quality. It has been steadily dropping from the very beginning of the book and has now reached an annoying low. While it is still almost always comprehensible, it still sometimes jars me out of my immersion seeing it.

As a summary of my thoughts on this book so far, try to think of I'm Really Not The Demon God's Lackey except the main character is more "human."

I would definitely recommend this book as long as you hold any interest in the plot and can bear with the translation. <<less

This is a story where the main character is the center of everybody's misconception. Everybody thinks he is secretly a god because he keeps getting summoned by these rituals but he knows that he doesn't actually have these powers. So he just lives in his shop and things just keep working well for him. Including the fact that items he gives to others have incredible powers. That is all fine I suppose but I really would like to have more of an idea about what is going on. If the... more>> main character is truly powerless, make him have to work around it. If some greater power is using him as a vessel or something, drop some hints. Instead it is a bunch of people fumbling around cluelessly and everything just kind of works for reasons that are not yet explained. It is decent if you like an MC who is mistaken for being more powerful than he really is but even that is weakened by the fact that he does seem to actually have some of these powers, so it is less enjoyable than a smart MC who bluffs his way through situations without having power. So basically it is an average quality story about an MC who is weak masquerading as someone strong. <<less

I like the concept and the plot but the MC and character feel so shallow. They can be shocked, happy, sad, or emotional, but you can't understand them. It's like a light switch on and off emotion. Also, the convenience and the coincidence of the plot/story feel unnatural. I'm thinking maybe because the character introduces is one of the strongest and not the usual weak to strong character that I don't have enough information that's why it feels unnatural.
