Sora Hanamitsuji, she’s a beautiful girl that even models can’t compare. My life ended after getting hit by a truck to protect her. …That should’ve been the case.

However, with this accident, Hanamitsuji-san and I returned to the day of our high school’s entrance ceremony. The second high school life is no longer as charming and youthful. I was going to spend it modestly and alone. …But, she said that won’t do.

“Well, I’ll help you make friends.”

Writing this review is heavy to do, simply because of the Status written on top that says the series has been axed. I really love this series and it's really quite painful to know that this is where it ends. It is of consolation that the story ended in a rather good place with most plot lines resolved.

The main character is a good narrator, he's quite sensible and knows his place, and also knows to acknowledge that he can be wrong. The heroines were all great to read. The pacing... more>> is quite good, the romance is almost nonexistent which is actually what I prefer... If only the story was longer. It is actually pretty painful knowing that I won't get to read at least 10 volumes of this series, I have no idea why the light novel was axed when it won some awards. This review is all just me being depressed, but seriously give this one a try anyway. It's really really good, as far as romcoms go. You can read the manga first if you want as well, it's fairly easy to get right into the novel after the manga. If you want to read something that's enough to make you depressed that it's axed, try this one out. <<less

A unexpected gem of a work in the bildungsroman pseudo-harem school life genre of light novels.

Nanamura is unironically the best light novel MC I have read in a long time. Perhaps the translator also plays a part in this, but I actually never once cringed while reading the MC's thoughts, which is quite a remarkable feat considering how the protagonist usually is in this genre of work.

The premise of the story can be summarized in one line as "Oregairu + time travel". The similarities are obvious and the author even... more>> makes an explicit reference at one point. However, personally I actually think this work is better than Oregairu. The characters feel more realistic and relatable to me, whereas if you take a step back and think about it, the characters in Oregairu are marred by the conventional light novel trappings of needing to be exaggerated and larger than life. Yukinoshita is impossibly perfect. It doesn't really make sense for 8man to be as jaded as he is (specifically, I would say he feels like the l'esprit de l'escalier version of an edgy loner high school boy written by an adult reflecting many years later). And there's a trap character who exists only for fanservice.

This work however, feels more like a "normal" novel rather than a light novel, and that's what I like about it. But perhaps that's also why it wasn't popular among the usual light novel audience. It's unfortunate that it got axed so soon, as the MC has already achieved significant development in just two volumes, and I would have liked to see what more the author could do. <<less

Imo every chapter is enjoyable and just like stompound said the chapter is huge and has a tons of word, make sure you have free time if you want to read it.

The characters in this LN is so good especially Hanamitsuji Sora, every chapter got me hooked and probably you too if you read every chapter.

The art is also very good, every character looked good in the art. I really like Uda Mamyo artstyle.

A solid 5 stars

I'm enjoying it but the chapters are huge. Make sure you've got at least twenty mins to spare when you sit down to read a chapter.

The characters are interesting and seem to act appropriately for their personalities. The story moves at a nice place and remains interesting throughout.

Translation is good too. Very readable

Man.. I'm hooked. Such a good series and characters development. Truly an enjoyable read with an empty sadness feeling towards the end.

I have no idea why a good series like this being axed eventhough managed to win an award. Still so much more can be explored.

Kudos also to the translator team for this series.. It was super easy to read. They are truly legend.

Also I really like the cover art for Volume 2.. It really managed to pique my interest to reread the novel whenever I'm browsing for something to... more>> read. <<less

Pretty good so far. The story is a romcom about a loner becoming more social. It does feel like a copy-paste of Oregairu, and obviously it's not as good as Oregairu, but the execution is decent. I do feel it's kind of dumb that the friends the main character makes are all girls. In Oregairu there's Zaimokuza, Hayama, Totsukawa, and Tobe as plot-relevant male characters, but here none of the male characters other than the protagonist have any significant role. It's like Oregairu with only the fanservice. Not including relevant... more>> male characters makes it seem like each character that's introduced exists primarily to be a potential romantic interest in a quasi-harem. It also just doesn't make sense to write about a teenage boy becoming more social while completely ignoring the dynamics of male friendship. If you're looking for a story about a loner starting to become more social, Oregairu > Tomozaki-kun > this story.

My review so far might sound a bit critical, but those were basically my only complaints. The protagonist and heroine are quite likable and have a good character dynamic. There is some good character development as well. This story does nothing new, but it does what it does pretty well. <<less

This is beautiful, the heroines are interesting and fun and not at all annoying. The main character has lots of room for growth and he does grow in each chapter regarding friendship and interpersonal relationship.

The arts are very reminiscent of hyouka is a big plus as well. One thing tho, maybe this work is in hiatus because it's been almost a year since book 2 came out and there's no book 3 yet. It feels really bad whenever a good work has no more support.

Loved the MC and greatly enjoyed the story. I guess I feel very relatable with the MC, but I definitely loved how he thinks and tackled the things as well as his self awareness of how... parallel his line of thinking is with others who preach how one should 'live correctly'.

It's to my utmost regret hearing that the series was axed. To the point I legit feel hurt. I checked on Author's twitter/X also to send my thanks for writing such story, but he (?) confirmed the publishing house doesn't... more>> plan to publish another book.

Hence I chose to thank him, write review here as well as buy the physical Japanese copies from Amazon jp. Sadly it seems I can't leave a review on there as well, perhaps for the newly made account.

Either way. I strongly recommend the series, it definitely feels similar to Oreigaru, but I honestly like this MC way more. Also, as absurd as it is, I think the axed thing is contributing greatly to engraving this story on my being. Well, I'll at least have two real Japanese volumes on my bookshelf with this experience.

Given how cheap compared to what I thought shipping is, I might do this more in the future. <<less

this is a good read.

the character are quite balancing each other. There's no exaggerated banter that turns into a severe femdom trait only to make things more comedic and interesting. All the argument is bounce back and forth really well balanced and proportional. There is no excessive "i can read your mind" conversation (this is what I like)

all the main characters is likeable, thus make this LN more bearable to read.

MC is indeed a little bit "disappointment" of human, but shows a great deal of problem solving in an... more>> effective way depending on the situation (keeping it real) but still harboring his all out efforts to save others from dire situation. All the fMC are reacted accordingly to their respected persona. Sometimes they just reprimand MC thoughts straight, but never crossed the line that make MC looks less than human. Except for her sister (lol) those FMCs are develop at the same pace with MC, they pull each other with MC as their center. No one is above other, they help each other as friend. It's shows the true advantage of having friend, something that in line with Hanamitsuji's mission in helping MC.

if ever all those fMC around MC are on the same level as MC's sister, it'll turn to be full fledged sickly femdom. And I don't like those imbalances (lol) <<less

This is more interesting than I had thought.

The social growth for a loner. How his perspective start to change and how his new changes influenced people around. A bit cliché but the interaction are good enough.

In some way the protagonist's thoughts is similar to Hikigaya Hachiman but less witty. Like being loner is fine, youth from RomCom is just fiction. He also had a little sister worrying about him socially.

So far his newly made friends are only female (lol) but the main heroine is pretty obvious. The romance is slow... more>> paced. <<less
