Lu Mingshu had never believed in fate.

She hadn’t believed in it when her father had remarried and caused her family to break into pieces, nor had she believed in it when she’d been thrown into a valley to perish.

She hadn’t believed in it when she didn’t have any resources to cultivate with, nor had she believed in it when she’d been condemned by everyone.

She climbed up little by little from dust, while her reign soared into the sky, which caused the world to look on in fear!

If justice doesn’t come, I’ll personally obtain it.

If fate disregards me, I‘ll open up a way to survive.

No matter what fate throws at me, I will surely become a phoenix!

“What a ruthless woman. I’m willing to risk my life and limbs for you, willing to be calculative for you – I’m even willing to be an enemy of the entire world for you. Aren’t you moved even a little?”

“That’s right, since I‘m such a ruthless woman, what exactly is it that you like about me?”

I have been looking for a CN with a strong female MC for real... where she cultivates and goes on adventures. This LN held promise earlier for that concept. Unfortunately, while the MC does get really strong she can never be the strongest.

I have not found a single CN where the female MC is the strongest under the sky. There is always one (ie the Male Lead) who is stronger. Maybe this has something to do with some Chinese cultural thing where the female can never be stronger than her... more>> male companion. Its rather unfortunate, no matter how many cheats the female MC gets, nor how much effort she puts into her practice, she can never be stronger than the ML.

Anyway, enough of my grumbling, this LN seems decent but gets disappointing later on with the ML either always saving the female MC or taking on the stronger opponent in fights. Author seems to have lost the plot and made the female MC into a side character for the ML. <<less

Edit: since 10 chapters ago there's almost only filler talk, tons of irrelevant characters who all have names and their irrelevant conversations. Also, after ch88 I have to give this novel a huge finger and stop reading, because ... more>>
Spoiler

she meets the two scum who drove her grandfather and mother to death, almost crippled her and constantly plots arainst her alone in a forest (plus their bodyguard). Of course they try to kill her because "no one will know anyway". She has no problem killing the guard, but instead of butchering the two like the vile pigs that they are, SHE TALKS TO THEM FOR A WHOLE CHAPTER??? SLAPS THEM THEM AND LEAVES????? WTF?!?!?!?! YOU'RE NOT A "GOOD PERSON", YOU JUST KILLED SOMEONE WHO JUST OBEYED A COMMAND, BUT THE EVIL SCUM WHO WILL ALWAYS TRY TO KILL YOU AND PEOPLE CLOSE TO YOU, YOU LET GO???? JUST DIE! Basically the ret*rd author did it to create more drama and tension later, but what an idiotic move, like there's no alternative

Initial review: I was very reluctant to try this, becase almost everything gravity picks up is the lowest, most generic type of popular tr*sh that shouldn't exist.

I'm happy I did, because this here is a very interesting combination of femMC, "system" and ok-writing. Definitely looking forward for more. <<less

Traditional Xianxia from a female protagonist point of view finally! ~ ('. '~) (~' . ') ~ So right now, I am only 12 chapters into this, but the groundwork laid for the rest of the story is well thought out with many potential paths for the MC to follow. Can't wait for more. *Now I am at 114-115 the plot has had 5 major events occur and has developed wonderfully.

9 1-star ratings and only 2 reviews for such a good novel. So I have to write my own review!

The first part made it seem like the usual "neglected child joins sect" trope. But it became much better after that. MC meets the sect founder's skeleton and a 9x9x9 Rubik's cube (It was called a Heavenly Wheel but I know better *smirk*). And she gets a legacy after solving the cube. Did I mention it was a frickin 9x9x9 cube?!! (Btw, the MC likes to do things by calculating and... more>> using math and deduction, even in combat situations.) Through this "cube, " she can communicate and trade with other worlds and go there for short periods of time for combat practice. The other worlds have their own systems, and her take on them is interesting.

Spoiler

The other worlds include no-magic scientific worlds like ours (she got a compass and math books from one of them), magic worlds (probably the western-fantasy-hero kind), and other xianxia worlds like hers.

[collapse]

It's not too OP yet because she can only use limited parts of the "cube, " but this has so much potential.

This MC is quite likeable. Even at 8 years old, she's quite smart and tries to be strong. Having her mother and grandfather die one after the other so quickly must be devastating, but she makes the best of her situation. (This happens in the first few chapters so I don't consider that a spoiler.)
Spoiler

It's a good thing she met a master whom she considers a father figure. He doesn't care about much in the world but slowly he begins to care for her, unlike her good-for-nothing biological father.

[collapse]

MC also has this cute friend/playmate who stood up for her and is just as strong as her. In ch37, he fully trusted her and even put his life in her hands, which is really touching. I'm totally shipping these two!!!

The "villains" haven't been dwelled on a lot so far, but they're not too annoying (with one exception. Zhou Yinru, I'm looking at you!) and seem to have depth. Not everyone is determined to push the MC into a hellhole, unlike other novels.

The worldbuilding is just beginning and I'm already excited. MC has spent most of her time in her old rural home or in the sect. Despite the out-of-world trips, we haven't seen much of her world yet.

Seems like this novel has a lot of potential. You never know what's going to happen next because it doesn't go the usual ways xianxia novels do. After 37 chapters, it still doesn't feel draggy, and it feels like the MC's adventure is just beginning. <<less

If you're looking for romance, while there is a smudge in this story, it's definitely not a romantic type of story. MC's father takes her mother's family resources and abandons the family while looking for greener pastures. Due to some extreme circumstances, the MC as an orphan is sent back to her father to raise. However, she's basically just thrown to a mountain with a useless new teacher who doesn't teach and absolutely no resources or education. With a fortuitous encounter she gets access to a new virtual world that... more>> is like a game, with points, forum boards, trading, and chats to other dimensions/worlds. It's a little different from other stories, because the MC is not a transmigrated soul, nor is she a reincarnated. Instead she's a regular soul in this ancient time period with a serious cheat of her "gamer's ID". Throughout her life she levels up seriously through hard work and her cheat skills to empower herself so that she can get revenge on her father and become truly independent.

While the plot is interesting to hold me, it's the MC's personality that is a bit too dull to read. She's a hard worker but she's extremely cold and indifferent to everyone and everything around her except her useless master and one or two close companions. With such a boring personality, she's too 1-dimensional and a bit boring to read despite all the action and level ups.

On the other hand, her love interest is more fleshed out and has more personality. To be honest, I read all the way to the current raws mostly for the Male Lead than the Female Lead. With a poisonous tongue, and a selfish outlook on life, he's quite entertaining to read about. Especially, how he deals with his "quasi father" and the various potential guys eyeing the MC is pretty hilarious. He quite fits the role that geniuses are utterly difficult to deal with and leave everyone speechless with his manipulations.

Unfortunately, the story focuses more on the MC and her constant level ups, while she remains cold and indifferent to the ML. It isn't until around chapter 800 that she responds to the ML, but it's still basically the same cold personality. So as a romance, there's barely a smudge of it in the story because they often spend decades apart, and even when together, she only treats him as barely as a companion. His dedication to the MC is quite romantic and admirable though, so it keeps me hoping that there will be more romance.

Plot wise, I always felt that there was too much repetitiveness going on. MC constantly goes on missions, beats her opponents, and then gets trapped somewhere for decades. Only to come back and awe everyone with her new leveled up OP skills. Then the cycle repeats, which probably normal for most xianxia stories anyway. I just wish that the MC had more emotions so that she would feel less like an android. <<less

I'm really liking how this is novel is starting. Well written, well detailed universe, many different characters and no cliché bad guys or s*upid fans of the MC only there to say 'wow, you're so strong!'. The MC is a smart and courageous child, but not a Mary Sue, I'm looking forward to see how she develops growing up. The cultivation and fighting methods aren't clear yet, but that's because the author is taking his time establishing the universe.

Anyway, if you are looking for a tale of revenge through martial... more>> arts, but a good one, this might be for you! <<less

Five stars. Absolutely. There are so many good things about this novel that I don't even know where to start.

In short, this is a great novel for anyone who likes a tenacious and level-headed female main character, set in a cut-throat fantasy martial arts world where "might is right."

If you like female fighting novels like "Crossing to the Future, It's Hard to be a Man, " you'll like this.

I guess I'll begin with a quick summary, and then a list of some of the novel's unique and strong points.

SUMMARY:

  • Lu Mingshu's father took all of her family's savings and abandoned her mother for another woman, ascending to a position of prestige while driving his own family to death.
  • Thrown into an abandoned corner of his sect with a "useless" teacher, Li Mingshu is determined to become strong enough to be the master of her own fate.
SETTING:

  • An ancient Chinese martial arts world ruled by the strong, where experts cultivate their bodies and spirits.
UNIQUE POINTS:

  • The main character, Lu Mingshu, is very unique. She is exceedingly analytical and practical, but also stubborn to the point of infuriating people. She has flaws, she wasn't reincarnated or transmigrated, she's not over-powered, and she constantly learns, grows, and changes. She is also a child / young teen for a large portion of the novel.
  • This is definitely not a novel focused on romance (you won't even see a hint of it until after a hundred chapters), but the prospective male love interests have very unique personalities. Especially XX, who has one of the weirdest but most endearing personalities I've ever seen. Devilishly smart, utterly shameless, incredibly flawed, with the thickest "face" I've ever seen.
  • The other side characters also have very distinct personalities and aren't forgotten as the novel progresses.
  • Though Lu Mingshu finds a "cheat, " it's very different from the usual golden fingers (old expert, storage space, status screen, "broken" power, etc). What she finds is more like an online forum, and even though the resources are there, everything she gains is through her own tenacious hard work throughout the years.
  • This is the type of story where the main character is constantly spit on and beaten down, and then she crawls through the dirt and her own blood to come out on top.
WRITING:

  • One of the best things about this novel is the writing. The pacing is just right, the chapters are nice and long, and the character development is slow and steady.
  • The author has also devoted a lot of time into world-building, and is good at describing the society, character relationships, and martial arts terms without turning it into a boring info dump/word dump.
  • The translation quality is REALLY good, with very few errors and vivid imagery.
Overall, I highly recommend this novel and it has quickly become one of my favorites. I binge-read 200 chapters at once and Lu Mingshu is one of my favorite female MCs of all time.

I'll update this review as the story progresses.

Finding this gem, I was actually extremely surprised. Although it does include a few stereotypes (scheming siblings, etc) this webnovel has managed to include some unique things that I really liked, such as the MC's personality. She isn't the "I was born cold and ruthless", but she is gradually growing there through her experiences and slowly getting rid of her naivety. All the while keeping her morals. She is not the type to cheat others out of more than what she could've made them... more>>
Spoiler

as shown in c124, she makes the shop buy the pill recipe for only half price and tells them they won't be able to achieve her effect despite the fact she could've made them buy it for full price and not say how they would not be able to make their pill as good as hers

[collapse]
which is largely different to most female cultivator novels, who seem to enjoy cheating everyone around them out of everything. What I personally loved was the fact that we could see her gradually building her strength. We don't see the typical seen in most cultivation books "she meditated for __ hours and then had a breakthrough to the __ realm". We see her actually working for the strength she's acquired, whether it be through fights or tedious steps. A downside for me however was all the characters. I could barely remember any of the side characters names. <<less

Ok this is a damn good Female protagonist Xianxia novel because it doesn't follow the cliches of female protagonist types.

Here her cheat is a Rubik's Cube with 81 faces the former owner couldn't solve this because he sucks at math while our main heroine is pretty good with that so she gets his cheat on his burial site and thats pretty good because only a few people can solve that and she didn't just found on the rode.

After that she goes on a power tripe leveling up like crazy and... more>> thats what I like about it she acts like a male character in these types of novel caring more about power and cultivation then other stuff. <<less

This is quite different from what I thought it would be in a good way.

Do not let the romance tag throw you off because from what I am seeing there is little to no romance so far unlike other novels with a female MC where they practically cram the romance tag down the readers throat.

Also unlike other novels where the MC gets crazy strong this one takes more of the approach that the MC is smart making use of tricks and calculations instead of brute force.

O.M.G...!!

Great God finally answer my praying! Finally found one story I can read till the last chapter...

I like our MC the most. Such optimism... Such confidence... I know all those processes are harsh, ordinary people like us will likely give up already halfway, but she didn't!

... more>> That, exactly what I like the most about her. And envied...

About the male lead, you asked? Quite cute, honestly, but I think he is just a so-so like another kind of MLs...

The plot, overall, for some people with weak heart, I dare to advice that you maybe won't like this one. Period.

Overall, story + translating quality = 5stars <<less

Wow what a ride! After lot of Chinese novels with female leads I find myself liking this one the best. It deserve to be translated more. Lu Mingshu is not a reincarnator or a transmigrator, just a little girl thrown into the dirty plan of a no good father and his second family. She's brave and cute, we see her becoming a martial artist and overturning fate.

I really want to see more of this series.

Pretty good novel! However, competely ignore the synopsis above. At least up until chapter 84, which is what has been currently translated today, the MC is absolutely nothing like the description, and there is not one handsome male lead or whatever chasing after her. It's nothing like the other generic female lead novels. Heck, she was only 11 years old up until like chapter 80. Finally just had a time jump to 15.

The one problem I have with this novel is the sudden inclusion of levels and... more>> game points. Think it must have been trending when the author had already started the story, and he just jammed it in. In my opinion, this was a sloppy move and a mistake. Can't write in too much detail as I'm on my phone, but if you want a decent female lead novel that's actually different from the rest, this will do...

Unfortunately, while the translation is almost perfect, minus some errors here and there, the release schedule isn't anything special. Seems like it'll be slow going waiting for more. <<less

If someone told me that they wanted to give a xianxia novel with female MC a try, coming from the male MC rich genre, Phoenix Destiny would be the first novel to recommend for me. Mainly because the romance is very slow and probably will not take off until about 50% of the story and the MC is very hardworking and independent, not sticking to some guy's trousers from the start.

There are also some other good points that make me eagerly await the next few chapters.

    • The novel is actually completed in china with around 800 chapters, which is not as bad as the 2k chapters I'm used to.
    • Cliches are still there of course but not as exaggarated, it's actually comfortable to read.
    • Decently written with some plot holes. Can't wait how the world crossing system develops.
A big minus point would be that the MC is a bit inconsistent in her actions. Or maybe it's just intended character development.... going a bad way. She's turning from a pretty good-hearted person into those she despised when young - someone always looking for benefits or she won't bother. Will see how this goes on.

Also, the main goal is not really obvious. Being the strongest I guess.

I'm liking this novel.
It's different compared to other normal Xianxia with a female protagonist, not so many clichés and I like how the MC acts.

She's cool-headed and smart/calculative, doesn't provoke other people unnecessarily and isn't arrogant, she isn't acting childish and throws tantrums whenever she feels like. She has a cheat that will make her stronger but she doesn't get OP quickly as she slowly learns and make mistakes here and there, although not very noticeable.

I'm not far in the novel since not many chapters are translated so I'm... more>> not exactly sure who the male lead is... I really want to read more but I need to wait for the updates ;-;
Really ah, it was getting so good.... <<less

Edit per ch 217:

Eh?? Seems like I have a change of heart. Or there's a change in our mc's—that is, being self-important, petty (the annoying kind of petty) and taking a not so "survival-minded" course of actions that has been her trademark for no logical reason.

Dropping the rating to 3

Review per ch.202

Oh my, oh my.

Ladies and gentlemen, humans and every other creature in the universe. Say goodbye to the old and boring, mary-sue crowned, revenge-filled, cold-blooded Female MC and the usual dull and arrogant, cardboard love interests, and LET'S WELCOME THE PHOENIX DESTINY!!

I could rave and rave about this series, but up until this chapter, everything is excellent! Consistent personality, humane defects, imperfections, CHARACTER GROWTH—you might think that you'd know where the plot might go, but it will exceeds your expectations.

The MC is smart. But unlike those with memories of the future or from another world kind of smart, we get someone really use her brain kind of smart. She do have a cheat, yes, but it's in the form of an "online transworld network" kind of thing. And you, people, know how disastrous the outcome might be when you tried a recipe you've got in an online forum without any proper knowledge before. She made mistakes, and took some missteps. But it was acceptable, considering that she was just a teen without experiences and it was all totally aligned perfectly with her background setting.

She's a bit crazy and desperate. Her situation forced her to take desperate and crazy measures. Despite that, she still have a heart that can cry and laugh, and CAN FEEL. alright, let's leave it at that.

Now, about the plot. It's ok. You might've read something similiar in other xianxia novels, but the biggest difference is that you'd get is that we have a Female MC. There's indeed some holes and points that aren't quite consistent (maybe the author kinda forgot about it). At times, the pace of the story is just too fast and we get that minor "how the fuc-" moments wit some unexplained things that somehow our MC have, but it's still minor enough and can be overlooked. Might change opinion later if it gets more annoying.

Now, about love interest. So far, we've only encountered 1. I had thought that we'd get the normal "benggong", super op, cold, cunning, and perfect type. I am pleasantly surprised that I guess wrong. His character had more DEPTHS than what I was expecting, and he got a fair share of glaring imperfections that he tried to conceal and feel insecure about. So very human. Some latest chapter unveil a new and interesting sides of him that i've founded to be refreshing. Love it so far.

Aside from that, we got a nice little set of side characters that quite... mediocre (?) in quality. Some left a strong impression. Others was too 2d to make any splash. Their personality and developments are okay-ish so far. But at least, not everyone lost their brain so it's a bit better then the many.

Alrighty, that's the end of my ravings. Since there's still 600-ish chapters before the end, it should be of note that my opinion could change as the story progresses. Hopefully, it'll be in a more positive way. But from past experiences...i kinda doubt that. <<less

I love this author! She's a favorite of mine and her style of writing is really my type. I love how romance isn't really emphasized here and plot is well written. There's a few bumps here and there (i.e. Not including some plot points bc the author most likely forgot) but all of those are perfectly excusable because this is definitely one of the better female cultivator works I've read so far.

I honestly find this to be a rare gem. Female MC has a very reserved personality. She is moral, but not a saint. She is resilient, but not overflowing with naive optimism. She does whatever she can with her own strength, and squeezes the maximum benefits out of things that fall into her lap.

It's rare to see this type of female MC who is not cold-blooded or shameless but also gets to be strong instead of only acting as a support for the strong make leads.

Her goldfinger is also very... more>> unique and interesting. It doesn't just give her everything for free, but connects her to an interdimensional trading network with other xanxia worlds. It's like a secret club spanning all cultivation world's, very cool!

I am honestly very heartbroken to see this was dropped and all the links dead. I sincerely hope someone can pick this back up, it is really a very good novel, the type of which is hard to find. <<less
