So so cute!! Don't think too much about logic, cuteness is justice.

Besides the actual premise, it's all pretty logical though, very enjoyable light story.

In many ways I also feel the romance is better than "What to do when I became a Koi..." because that one feels like almost all the interactions are pretty pre-determined, like it's not actually their own personality or character but rather game setup. Here, their slowly getting to know each other process is more genuine.

What happened when you suddenly downloaded a Love game app on your phone and that character can interacts with you? - Love it to death of course!

That's my only comment hehe. It's too cute, too cute, too cute. Recommend 100000x. Please read

P/s the game is nicely described. The flow is good. Translator beautifully translates the story. The novel MC wrote is also quite fun to read. I hope I can read it for real!!!!

A very sweet mystery novel featuring a writer and his virtual boyfriend.

The novel itself delves deeply into the world of online novels and publishing, and is somewhat reminiscent of Bakuman, although the platform that MC utilizes to publish his works is entirely fictional. Along with it is a cast of (probably) supportive and (somewhat) well meaning friends to mercilessly taunt help MC out, well... except for that one time where they tried to make him dance in a tutu. What else are good friends for?

In terms of romance, the progression... more>> of their relationship is very fluid and never required a confession as their feelings were implicit yet mutual.

I did subtract a star because the actual delivery of the novel near the end was a little haphazard and not very well laid out.

The reason that ML originally came into contact with MC is pretty weak and poorly explained, and the way he fell into a coma sounds like something from a D grade action movie.

I am so in love that I am rereading as the translator is translating even though I finished the book long back. This is Seme protag. I love seme protag but this book is amazing even if he wasn't the seme.

The plot was well laid out with almost no plot holes. The writing is amazing and so is the translation. It keeps you in without never feeling bored. Absolutely teeth rotting romance and fluff. So sweet especially the way the sweetness is shown. As a fluff lover - This is top quality work. The story moved in a fast pace without much to no dragging. It was humorous, sweet, fluff and some mystery. The ending and explanation of what happened to the ML was not that great and that's the only problem with me.

MC - The MC is a novel writer and is good at it. The MC character was amazing and his transition between taking care of a pet in the game to his lover was very smooth. His personality is also very charming and is all around a good MC for this book.

ML - The ML's transition from thinking he is a prisoner to a kept boy (by a woman) and his shock when he realizes the MC is a man are all well captured. His love towards the MC is mutual and how he takes care of the MC by making him write are all so cute.

Their interactions are to die for. I always feel like I am eating some very sugary candy whenever I read their interactions.

Also, Special shout out to the system who made all this possible and who is also a bit of a cutie.

Story: 4.5/5
Writing- 5/5
Characters - 5/5
Translation - 5/5
Fluff - 7/5

TLDR; An absolute read and GEM. READ THIS!!!

Confusing at times, but overall very cute. I missed the “seme protag” tag in the beginning so half of the time reading consisted of me debating fervently who was top & bottom. I like playing dating sims, so the premise really won me over. I thought the execution was kinda rocky, but the mission quests were really fluffy & cute to read!

One of the best stories I've read recently.

From the reviews, I went in thinking that it was going to be pure lighthearted fluff, but that wasn't the case.

I would say some of the reviews glossed over or underestimated the mature themes in the story, but the mystery and tension were fairly well-done throughout.

Some examples of the darker elements:

In the early stages, MC thought the ML was AI, but ML was a human being and suffered quite a bit psychologically from being forcefully jailed and oppressed under a force he could neither see nor hear.

Some hints of Stockholm syndrome and being touch/sound-starved for human interaction due to ML's forced isolation. Author portrayed it surprisingly thoroughly.

Although I agree with some of the reviews about how the story went a bit off-track in the later part, I also expected it to some extent because it's a CN webnovel. It was pretty foreshadowed if you have experience reading CN webnovels.

From the very beginning, the author foreshadowed the later competition by repeatingly emphasizing MC losing out to that other famous author and how much money and reputation the other guy had in the author circle.

If you are a frequent reader of CN novels, you'd know immediately that by the end of the book, it's pretty much a requirement of the MC to climb to a higher status and earn more money/publicity for his own novel.

CN readers will also expect this. That is not to say that this is the "best" writing, but they are the ones paying money for those chapters of the novel, so the author generally has to fulfill those expectations.

The science, coding and philosophy around the main plot were executed very well. The loose ends were tied up and the overall conclusion was pretty well done.

The two main characters are both OP, but they had well-fleshed out characterizations. I especially enjoyed the ML's character and his reactions, conflict, and "tests" toward the MC were extremely fun and felt pretty realistic.

The translation was pretty good overall, just a bit too literal at parts. <<less

The premise is interesting, a strong start but then it's getting boring, dull, flat and painfully slow. I skimmed a lot and still manage to get bored.

It's way too overated which in result is the huge disappointment.

It's a pleasant read and I have so much fun while reading it!

The characters are amusing and adorable. The storyline is fun and not childish. I initially thought it is just another meng-selling novel, but it's not. Although the ML is indeed cute (ofc he's in chibi form, he's cute!), the story and the writing style are quite mature and logical—dreamy but logical. The tension parts are written very well, and the fairytale-like ending coupled with its technological approach had me hooked to the core.

It's hard to explain the story's... more>> uniqueness with my poor ability to narrate, but despite the fact that the story is very cute, it isn't to the point of uwuwushooocwetyouareextremelycuteialmostdie typical to many of the meng-selling novels. Instead, it effortlessly walks that fine line between cuteness and maturity. And the story's got heart without being too cheesy, which is really gratifying for me, who has read too many novels with immature, brainless, but cute characters and plots.

I'll admit, I was initially concerned about the ML. He seemed so pitiful, and I feared he'd suffered from Stockholm syndrome and might end up with the MC out of sheer helplessness. But thankfully, he proved to be smart and self-loving enough to avoid that trap. The sincerity of the MC and the eventual resolution left me feeling relieved and satisfied. I really can't praise it enough!

In a nutshell, "Paper Lover" is a ride you don't want to miss. It's cute; it's charming; but it's also got that something extra that keeps you coming back for more. So take your time, settle in, and get ready for a reading experience that's equal parts fun and heartfelt. I genuinely hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did! ♥️ <<less

I do not understand the stars and comments so good that the novel has, the setting leaves us with a boy who does not remember his life trapped in a limited world where his future romantic partner is the vigilante from his perspective, I feel a little sick to imagine that romance develops in this situation, everything sounds like stockholm syndrome.

I don't find the interactions between the characters pleasant or sincere, I can't find the comedy and I can only think that this story is not for me, I started... more>> reading the novel to relax and I only get more stressed, I won't read it anymore, I don't want to ruin the novel for those who like the novel.

I just want to leave an oasis for people like me who suffered when trying to read it and say, you're not alone, I didn't like it either. <<less

Ah yes cuteness can kill you sometimes!

I took a fancy to this novel immediately because the premise, even tho seen in mangas, is never seen in chinese BL novels.I've read quick transmigrations, unlimited flows, xianxia to modern highschool romance but this is the first time i've seen the "romance with a game character" in chinese novels and it did a great job! It was really thought provoking and I constantly had theories about the game. Is it a character that became conscious? Are two worlds overlapping? Is the game character a real person? Or is it someone controlling the game character? Not only that, it managed to keep the cute interactions between the ML and MC super natural and steady too!

Since no one has mentioned this, I gotta tell you guys our MC is a seme protagonist. Since I'm not used to a seme MC.i was constantly hesitant about whether I should read it or not. But after 10 chapters or so, it didn't really matter. The romance and plot was all the same. Their interactions were cute as hell. The romance was slow and natural. Even though I don't know whether i'll read more seme MC novels but I know that I liked this all the same regardless of the perspective!

Ximu (Li ShuoXing) our Seme MC is an author. He's not crazily rich and not too destitute. Poor guy, he spent money like crazy once he met his cub in the game. Since Semes in Uke perspective novels are mostly cold, handsome or so. It felt like a breath of fresh of air to see how Ximu was so funny, cute and pe*verted. Willing to do anything for his cub. Doting on and teasing his cub a lot yet treasuring him with all his heart! *Sighs* The things we do for love. Poor guy! Because others thought he was romanticising his phone, he had to go through losing face many time xD. It started with just a simple interest and love for a game character but the more he interacted, the deeper he fell. And when some things were revealed, he had his hesitations but he still chose to help and love the Cub all the same.

Su Mingqian (our Cub) I thought he'll be a blushy uke. But wow, not only was he independent, understanding but also cared about the MC a lot! He didn't want to depend on the MC alone. He wanted both of them to actually have an equal relationship which they had. And can I mention how I love ukes who are proactive and take initiative to express their love? Hell yeah, Our Cub was one of them and I adore him for this.

The plot, as I mentioned above, was really thought provoking yet the interactions between our two leads were pure fluffiness and cuteness. The romance was not the brainless cute romance rather it felt really natural. It was such a steady development! How they both fell for each other slowly. Even though they didn't put their feelings into clear words (like "i love you") they both had tacit understanding and indirectly did confess. Other than the romance, it also contained the life of an author. It wasn't like "ximu wrote another successful novel" and then some schemes and then the super gifted author overcoming them or so. Rather it felt like it was depicting the real life of an author. How different authors interacted and helped each other. How our MC found the inspiration to write his novel and his struggles. We even got snippets of his novel and omg!!! I want to read his novel! It looked so interesting!!! Can I mention how cute his fans were? Calling him "Eunuch" and wanting to save his a**. Wailing so badly for updates xDDD

The kisses were at the ending chapters and they were extremely cute!!! Smut? No description but so far we just got a vague snippet of one time so I think that'll satisfy you guys!

I haven't read the ending and extras yet but I don't think there'll be anything new. The truth reveal wasn't anything extraordinary because a lot if foreshadowing was already done so you could piece the truth together (won't say anything since it'll be a spoiler). It was extremely cute but it wasn't anything special and there were plot holes here and there too. So I gave it 4 stars.I recommend you guys to read it because who doesn't like fluff?

This is one of the sweetest novel I have ever read!

The MC is the gong/seme/top and is one of the funniest and most adorable character ever!

The ML is the shou/uke/bottom and is one of the sweetest and most lovely character ever!

The storyline is absolutely intriguing and hilarious. The side characters are memorable and their interactions with the MC is a highlight of the story. I can not stop gushing about how good this novel is. I highly recommend reading this story for all BL lovers that want a relaxing and... more>> fluffy read! <<less

Reading this felt like finally tasting that food that you've been craving for. The taste is just right, not fancy nor underwhelming. Just right.

I really love the dynamics in their relationship. There isn't a focus on whose gong or shou. Just two people unexpectedly falling in love and being equals. I find their interactions very healthy and I also like how the struggles of being gay weren't highlighted. I admit that they exist in real life but it's also nice to have stories every now and then where the gays... more>> can love freely like hets do. <<less

I want to curl into a ball, roll off a cliff, and die. The second hand embarrassment I'm getting from this.

Like the VR part. Oh my god. Just thinking about it hurts.

Sometimes I just want to strangle Ximu. But other than those somewhat infuriating moments, it's fluff, fluff, and more fluff piled on top of a bunch of misunderstandings.

Also the ML doesn't come out to the real world until the very end. Like the last few chapters. So if you are impatient then you're f*cked. Good luck.

This novel is interesting and awesome. Will the paper lover come to life?. And is he a person trapped in the game? Or a person who was created by the game system? Continue to write on this story, thanks ?

Sweet, fluffy, cute story. I was hesitating a bit to read this...... Glad that I read it.

Very unique and fresh concept, not one I usually go for. Still it was very enjoyable, cute and funny.

... more>> Really like the Character set up and personality....... especially MC. Its rare to fine a totally Normal gong in BL. Plus I love his imaginative mindset for stories (He's a famous Author for a reason).

Our ML (shou), cute, tsundere, genius with high IQ. Very adorable.

And there is my Fav, our krypton cheater, Our Matchmaker, ASK...... a Cute, hardworking AI who's bias toward ML.

Also I really enjoyed their relationship build up and romance, though it is very slow, it is sweet and very ticklish.

Honestly, Some of the mid parts are bit boring and dull........ but it's not for long (max 3-4 ch) before you get pulled up again into it.

Overall, if you are into fluffy-sweet, seme protagonist BL...... don't hesitate and give it a try.

Lastly, Thanks to the translator for translating this novel. You guys did a great job with translation ❤️. <<less

Not what I was expecting, but it didn't disappoint! I can see why this is so highly rated now. I avoided it for the longest time because the summary was a bit... uhhh all over the place, I guess? I just didn't understand it DX If you're like me and you're hesitating because of the summary or something else, I can confidently say that you will probably end up liking this novel more than what you're expecting! It's the kind of character-driven novel that you rarely see in Danmei groups... more>> -- one with a driving theme that makes the story stand out with its own message~ A must read! (BTW: The TL is very well done too, so nothing to worry about there.)

As for the premise... In this novel, the protagonist, Li Shuoxing is an author known for being very flaky (struggles to keep up with updates and the likes). We catch him just before he releases his newest book and finishes the old one. He's in a bit of a slump, but luckily for him, a pretty magical "love nurturing app" suddenly installs itself on his phone. There, he meets a pretty realistic, tsundere chibi called Su Mingqian (ML). While working on his new book and falling in love, he proceeds to unravel the mystery behind the app and his new little lover.

The characters of this novel are definite winners! The main protagonists, especially, of course. They were so realistic that they were practically jumping off the page. The author also did a great job introducing them slowly -- so that you come to care for them more and more.

Li Shuoxing (MC)

This is one of those rare Gong-MC novels, but this particular MC doesn't take the 'strong-and-stoic' route. In fact, he doesn't take much of a route. He's just a very normal person. One that just so happens to be a writer and easily cheated for his money for the sake of raising a game character LOLOL. In summary: A very fun, doting Gong that you can relate to!

Su Mingqian (ML)

Our shou goes through quite a few personality shifts due to his condition, but I thought that author handled it pretty well~ In the end, he does end up being kind of your typical 'tsundere' shou, but it's not in the annoying way.

The chemistry between the two characters is particularly well done. It starts off kind of rough (one thinks the other is a game character and the other thinks that the other is some kind of strange entity trying to control him), it was actually so off-putting at first that I was almost turned away from the story completely! BUT, it's all a part of their development~

The setting is not super perfect when it comes to details, but it's a lot of fun! I actually ended up finally reading this novel because I'm in a 'virtual cub raising' kick and just so happened to find this along the way. In terms of that genre, this isn't really the best place to go for it. The game elements are extensive at first, but they slowly fade away the more the truth behind the app is unlocked. So, I'd say this is more of a modern-day-fantasy slice of life novel where a lot of weird things happen rather than focusing on just one premise.

PLOT: 8/10

I've got to be honest, I lost interest a bit at the end, so I skipped most of the ending chapters and didn't really end up reading the extras. This is one of my habits though (I don't always like finishing stories!). Can't say whether it's because of the story quality itself or not, but there's no doubt that I was more interested in the first half of the story. You might find yourself feeling the opposite, I guess it depends!

This is a supeeer cute novel that was able to elicit both smiles and teary eyes. I found the novel setting to be novel as well, even if it's imperfect! So, in all, enjoyment is quite high.

RATING: 4.5/5

A MUST read -- in my humble opinion~ It's one of those lovely kind of memorable kind of stories that's very difficult to forget. Not only because of it's unique premise, but because of the lovable characters that are introduced through the story. <<less

It's cute, fluffy, sweet and tugs your hearstring.

If you're looking for angst and something deep, then this is definitely not for you. This is just pure fluff and there's a lot of hilarious moments that sometimes it's not making sense at all. Lol

The translator did a really good job translating the story. The ML and the MC's interaction is so cute but there's not a lot of things really going on. Anyway, different strokes for different folks so if you like light novels this is higly recommended.

Enjoy reading! 4.5/5... more>> for me. <<less

It's lighthearted. A feel good story and it did make me feel good. It gave me the happy chemicals. My mind is in the clouds.

Its a vey light and sweet novel. But if you are bitter and are really determined to see the darkness then you'll find it.
