To be completely honest, I dont understand why people dislike OG and Grid so much. Grid started off tr*shy and his character improves overtime. I dont know about you guys but I enjoyed the ride! I remember wanting to read OG for 7x (but it was never realized cuz I kept on searching for new series, you see.)

I liked Grid's relationship with the characters ... more>>

First thing first, this is a feel good webnovel. Don't expect to read something too deep or intricately woven plot. Expect a lot of filler, silly misunderstanding, korean no 1!!!, people falling in love with the MC because of one or two kind actions, basically wish fulfilments. Being a gaming novel, it also have the usual power balance problem.

Moving on to the good side.
- Characters are not black and white, and MC's enemy is not always enemy. The villain are not just there to give tear-jerking backstory, but they have their own problems and thought that's not related to the MC. Too bad the author didn't give the same complexity to MC's allies.

- There are plenty of great side character that really shine, albeit their moment of glory are often interrupted my MC is the most OP moments.

I don't mind MC that are weak/s*upid, and this story is pretty good to kill time. Overal 3.5 out of 5

I read some of the reviews praising it as a progressive personality improvement story but in reality the pretext is completely different from a story of that genre of stories.

Firstly the MC is so dumb that it's painful to read.

Secondly the mc's character improves but it's below average. When reading a story we expect unpredictability and this novel lies at the height of predictability.

Thirdly if you want to show a character development then the plot should support that instead the girls here are like he's so cool coz he's atleast... more>> average.

Fourthly the characters are shallow af with no redeeming quality. <<less

They say that everything gets better after 90+ chapters, and all the annoying things before are intentional for all sorts of development. But I say, apart from "Okay, I'll ignore the first hundred chapters", first impression is key and this novel severely need it!

After the first hundred chapters the story indeed progress in a lot of ways that make it somewhat enjoyable to read, in parts. However, it only gets worse as far as the MC goes. If in the beginning he is insufferable because of A, B and C,... more>> then later on he is insufferable because of D, E and F. Honestly, there is no way to describe how badly written the MC is. I can't believe that I'm saying it, but I actually prefer the generic MC of Chinese stories.

Side characters don't really matter. You can tell that they are nothing but a reflection of the writer, meant to glorify the MC, for it is impossible to even write a proper fictional character that genuinely accepts the MC.

As for the writer... you can tell he writes for Korean audience solely. Still, I'll throw it out there, nonetheless... I find it funny how the he bring up a lot that the MC is skillful in this and that because of his military service. Half the planet have mandatory military service. It's not something to brag about, unless the MC you write about actually served in some elite unite and did more than general training, which is clearly out of the question for someone like Grid. <<less

This is my first time writing a review on this platform, but here we go. At first, many people might not like our MC. But once he starts to change his nature, attitude and selfishness, you'll then start to enjoy this novel to the fullest. I haven't gotten too far with this novel yet, but the part I read up to kept me enjoyed.

I would consider this a decent novel, except for the blatant bias and just plain simp MC. Though he improves, none of the other characters around him really do, they just get buffs and admire the MC for having a cool class. So far, I'm on chapter 174 and I have yet to see any background plot or foreshadow of a secret, the MC just keeps leveling up and gaining materials. The most frustrating thing about this novel is it has a lot of great potential, but it just... more>> feels wasted as the MC does the same thing just to gain more money. It feels like the MC always has 100 blue-eyed white-dragon cards and has the ability to make more of them at a whim with no hint of a limitation. And not only that, every girl falls for him in 5 minutes despite him doing nothing cool or special.
Spoiler

He literally gained Yura's affection for showing up late to a match rather than the guy who protected her before the MC showed up, Regas, and Regas was on a separate team as well.

[collapse]
. Not only that, but you can tell the guy who made this does not support gays, which is fine, but it makes the novel feel that much worse in my own opinion. He should have kept his revulsion for same-s*x couples out of this if he wanted to make a good novel. This novel would be considered decent, with the potential of being better, but the erratic bullshittery that randomly happens and a complete lack of decent characters, I rate this a 1/5. Read if you like harems without rhyme or reason involved in them, as there isn't a problem in it, but I don't recommend for people hoping for a good plot. <<less

I honestly regretted reading this many chapters hoping it would become a lot better (I mean it did, but it's still not enough to redeem it).

Too many "coincidences" to help MC despite him being "unlucky".

I feel like this is aimed at younger audience (12-ish) because of how cringey some parts are. So If you are 16+ I wouldn't recommend it. The novel is rated 3.9/5 and even that is extremely generous, no offence.

I didn't expect to like this story as much as I do right now. It's my favorite web novel right now and is the one I'm most excited about from all the novels (even manga/manhua/manhwa) I'm following. It starts with Grid being a tr*sh human but that's what makes it so great since there's no place but to go up. His character growth is phenomenal and makes you want to root for the underdog who made it happen.... more>>
Spoiler

His name is technically Greed but it changes meaning from greed for material wealth to greed for his family and friends.

[collapse]

The more I read the story, the more invested and interested I become. The cast is memorable, funny, and gives the story more breadth. I've read a lot of higher rated novels compared to Overgeared but nothing makes me as excited for the next chapter as this novel.

This novel grew on me with all the different jokes, characters, and epic moments. The biggest weakness of this novel is that the first arcs of the story are "undesirable" since Grid makes a lot of mistakes and is very "tr*shy". If you have the time and can read past the part where he is "tr*sh" I highly recommend this novel especially with the superb translations. <<less

As someone who has read the entire book, and read my favorite parts many times over, I can say most of the reviews here are absolute garbage from people who do not know what character progression is. You cannot have a book that is largely character based have a saint at the beginning, because he has nowhere to go. People who have read 50 chapters say he goes from - 1 billions to - 10 thousand, but that is damn wrong. He progresses into one of the most likable... more>> characters I have ever read, slowly learning AND DIRECTLY ADDRESSING how he is not a good person and needs to put in work to get better.

I highly recommend this book for Grid’s story alone, as long as you can deal with an a**hole for the first 75 chapters. There is a turning point around there (been a while, can’t remember exactly when) that he addresses his issues and starts to become a great character. <<less

I used to be pretty into OG but now it really shows that theres a lack of proper plot and space for more character growth. Grid at the beginning is universally unlikeable; he’s lazy, selfish, and pretty s*upid. However, one of the concepts of OG and Satisfy is growth through the game, and that’s accomplished (albeit rather heavy handedly) through Grid’s concrete success in Satisfy, his new comrades, and his amazing blacksmithing ability. But, I think he’s not really that much better than he started off. We never get to... more>> see what Grid is like without his strength, in other words, how Grid’s character has actually changed when he doesn’t have piles of money and his guild to back him up. Is it true growth or is it a surface level change due to his material wealth? The female leads are also way too into Grid (as expected rip), the National Competitions have no semblance of balance or sensible rules (he can really just join halfway into the game?), and it’s self-insert/power trip qualities become all too prominent in the latter half of the story. For a lot of the battle scenes theres really no sense of tension because at this point I have a hard time believing Grid/OG Guild will be defeated by anyone that’s not a literal God (and Grid’s probably gonna reach that status soon anyway) so it’s just paragraphs of his allies losing and then him pulling some deus ex machina with 20 swords and Braham or something to win. I think the concept of the underdog, in this case a production class in an mmorpg, is always pretty fun to read, but once you get past the initial development of the character and his skills, it’s the same arc over and over to no end. <<less

Its entertaining, but the storyt is lazy, the caracteres a one-dimensional, it gets repetitive fast and the tension and stakes are non existent.

The worst part by far about the novel is how the author develops the PvP scenerios, there is no stakes or tension, the good guys come out at a critical moment and wipes the floor with any player. The only interesting part about the novel is the pve sections of the story when the character goes away from the rest of players and interact solely with NPCs.

Hell,... more>> this novel would be so much better if it wasn't a VRMMORPG and just a fantasy world with your tipical comes from another world shit. <<less

I created an account specifically to write a review after reading other reviews. People seems to have misunderstood when they were told that the MC evolves and gets better... I saw many people complaining that he got worse. That is not true at all. The thing is, his evolution begins kinda late, after chapter 100, and many people dropped before even reaching this point. It is true that before ch100 the MC is an a@#hole but after that, he becomes incredible. Many things happen, and the author was able to... more>> maintain the sense of progress and evolution through all the chapters, without making the story become something repetitive. If u can endure the first 100 chapters, this novel is one of the best, no doubt. Ofc, its my personal opinion as a fan of this genre, but I`ve never seen a story so well developed and have never felt this much joy from reading anything else. 9.5/10 <<less

Some parts are intresting enough to pass times. A unique presentation of an virtual simulation rpg (but with many loopholes). I could bear the cliche like last second hero arrival, or sudden power awakening in the midst of a fight but the stereotyping player based on their country is too much I couldnt stomach it anymore. Basically korean good, american good, china baad, japan baad, russian baad and the funny thing is author try to cover ups this racism by using his protagonist. Might be a good read for you... more>> korean or american readers and maybe not so much for japanese and chinese or even russian readers <<less

This is a terribly written novel, from the scope of the world to the characters. Every single aspect of this novel is subpar:

MC: The MC starts as a huge and annoying ass. He has nothing special, and the thing is there isn't a reason to justify his behavior. As the story progress he gets everything handled to him and his personality develops from 'a**hole' to 'generic MC'

Characters: All of them are one dimension at best, the females in special are so boring

World: The world is complete out of scale from... more>> the popularity of the game. There are 2.5 billion users, but of course that the whole continent is accessible, distances are not relevant. The number presented makes no sense when you consider the overall popularity of the game, for example:

Spoiler

MC starts a war and his army is in the 10's of thousands to conquer his kingdom. Doesn't that seem really low ? There are 2, 5 billion players, and supposing a rate of 5 NPCs to 1 Player, (reading the story, is safe to say that the rate 5:1 is pretty conservative) there would be 12, 5 billion NPCs, what's 10 thousand? Off course that he easily accomplish his objetive. Because why not:

[collapse]

Blacksmithing: I will just say that the MC smelts: wood, bones and gems (smelting is putting the ore in fire so that you can melt it and generate the chemicals reaction necessary to reduce the ore from a oxide to metal in its pure form, it doesn't make any sense to do that with any material non metallic)

Every single aspect of the story is, at best, subpar. Don't bother reading the story if you cannot ignore every flaw and just focus on the 'epic' moments <<less

As I'm beginning this I'm quickly seeing that what many of the comments say about the MC are true - he is EXTREMELY hard to tolerate in the beginning. I didn't think it would be so bad, but holy christ, he really is an irredeemable flipping moron who isn't likable in the slightest. I'll push forward reading and edit but man, I have to say that the author probably turns off a ton of prospective readers by having the MC be such a god-forsaken piece of tr*sh. And not the... more>> pitiful kind of tr*sh, the kind of tr*sh you cut all contact with and avoid. He's that annoying.

*EDIT*

He definitely does get better, shortly before the ~200 chapter mark I'd say. He then starts to consistently exhibit normal human behavior like camaraderie, reciprocation, etc. By the 300s and up he's become a pretty normal VRMMO/isekai protag. He still has flashes of idiocy/greed (pretty much used for comic purposes) but he's settled into being a leader.

The story has a nice curve of progression. He's extremely strong and resourceful but the world does a good job of gradually increasing the strength and difficulty of his enemies and the situations he faces. There are plenty of situations where he exhibits his strength alone, and many where he raises up the people around him to do great things. All and all it's become a really enjoyable read and I'm glad I stuck with it. You just have to really grind past those first ~175 chapters where he's just.... horrible.

After having caught up, the enjoyment has stayed largely consistent all the way up to the latest TL. If I had one complaint it's that he's starting to really accelerate upwards in growth and it's leaving his companions behind, little by little (this is referenced directly within the story though, and his companions do try hard to keep up). <<less

finished the translated novel from 1 till 1198 in 5 days non stop (read till 5am). Honestly, ignore those who read till before chapter 300ish. The story just improves as time goes, with solid character development and storyline. Really nice to see how his personality changes. Don’t drop in the beginning, this novel is worth it. 1200 chapters in, this is still really enjoyable! That's easy 30-60 volumes!

Don't be afraid to pick it up, it's a journey that's entirely enjoyable! Well maybe the first 90 chapters might put off some people about how weak the MC is, but hang on.

I don't know how the author managed this. The pacing is really good. The world is really good, you could draw a map of it from memory of the unfolded events. The consistency, the sheer number of interesting characters.

The character growth meant that in chapters 1-90 the MC is tr*sh, but he's being reprimanded for that. I enjoyed those chapters, too - where he's weak, cranky and b*tchy. It's hilarious. Later after he stops being weak, the hilarity of situations or dialogue moves in to fill the gap seamlessly. Some side-characters didn't get enough growth at times, but we got a lot of interesting stories instead.

Romance-wise, there's some, but with a twist. He practically gets married 300 chapters in, and has a son. In the first chapters, Grid got publicly humiliated and traumatized when he tried romance. Then it was broadcast on national TV and social media how inept he is. His strengths lie elsewhere, and he focuses on them instead of pursuing romance with anyone but his "wife". There are two orbiters and a billion fangirls, but he remains faithful.

There's little to no filler. There is a lot of action, planning, funny moments, and meaningful chats with friends/relatives. There are a lot of badass moments, and especially ones that can leave you grinning all day of how cool or awesome the entire concept of something is.

The MC is OP, but his bigger victories come from relationships, planning, diligence and caring about the people around him.

The translation is top-notch, as you can expect from WuxiaWorld. This novel is so good, that it's among the few novels whose translation I sponsor.
