First of all, I want to say that I started reading this because of its NSFW chapters. But afterwards, I read it because I came to love its story.

Here's a short summary:

In a certain place, two of the three most powerful underworld groups, Huan An Technology and Zhen Ting Investment, had an intense rivalry; Luo Yu is the president of the Huan An's company while Ruan Zheng is of the Zheng Ting's. In Luo Yu's perspective, Ruan Zheng seems to often exploit his plans for some unknown reasons...

Then one day, a guy named "Su Jiawen" was sold to him due to his mother's debt. Everyday, they would do papapa- and that. While they slowly became intimate, Luo Yu is also becoming suspicious of him. He was about to propose to "Su Jiawen" until one assassination revealed his true identity.

Little by little, he remembered the name Ruan Zheng.

Although this is a short story, I must say that I am contented with it. It had a part where it is

    • Action
    • Mystery: The reason why "Su Jiawen" had to come himself to Luo Yu.
    • Angst: Ruan Zheng is such a hopeless romantic when it comes for ML. He waited three years before finally meeting him, even in an unexpected place. As a reader, even though Ruan Zheng is a kind of optimistic person, I still felt the bitterness every time he was rejected or got treated coldly by the ML.
    • Romance: You see that bitterness, these pent up feelings in the readers were guaranteed to be rewarded with the sweet ending.

Though, I said earlier that Ruan Zheng is such a hopeless romantic, I did not mean that he was willing to suffer loving him if he was rejected. No, he is actually a very levelheaded person and not a masochist.

It was done for a well pace, no chapters are wasted. Almost no plot holes, those angst earlier in the part of the story has been answered or had closure at the end of the story.

So worth it.

BTW, the summary made by the author is already the clue itself of what was going to happen in the story.

I truly enjoyed reading this novel.

Due to its short length, it does not go as deep as some stories, but in a way it helps cut out extraneous details. The main character is seemingly cold and unfeeling, and our love interest is gentle and mysterious. Considering the length, their relationship is developed quite nicely. I found myself drawn in and emotionally invested.

As an added bonus, there was a healthy dose of explicit scenes, which are hard to come by in many BL C-novels due to censorship.

This is such a heart-wrenching short story!

After reading and rereading the story again, I honestly feel like the MC (seme) doesn't deserve the ML (shou) at all. The ML literally spent his whole life living just for the MC's affection and love, which is pitiful (one-sided love) and toxic (as in mentally straining and stressful). Even though the ML/author might not mind it, I think the ML deserves better.

Overall, this is a fairly angsty short story with a bittersweet ending. Some may say the ending was a happy one, but... more>> I still feel sorry for the ML. The MC doesn't deserve the ML! Q_Q <<less

Oh man, against all odds, I really enjoyed this. It honestly really helps that the author doesn't exactly make it a secret that Su Jiawen is really not who he appears to be.

On the whole, I wouldn't exactly call the two main characters' relationship healthy, but the author never devolves into r*pe territory either. In fact, with the climatic reveal, the power dynamics become extremely muddled. (There's dubious consent, but probably not in the way you'd expect.) I usually prefer romantic fluff over everything else because this kind of push-and-pull... more>> complicated relationship dynamic is really difficult to get right, but the author basically nails it here. I love how she skirts the line but never actually crosses it.

I think what I really like about this is how the power dynamics gets inverted and skewed as the narrative reveals that, yes, Su Jiawen is in fact (as everyone probably already expected at that point) Ruan Zheng, Luo Yu's enemy, and that Ruan Zheng has been lying about his identity all along. This completely flips the dynamic, because while it initially starts with the audience believing that the dubcon happens because Luo Yu essentially "buys" Su Jiawen as a bed partner, that whole thing becomes moot as it's revealed to have been purposely engineered by Ruan Zheng. The dubcon-ish moment then becomes the fact that Luo Yu was unaware of Ruan Zheng's identity when he slept with him, and probably wouldn't have slept with him otherwise. In other words: delicious, delicious identity p*rn.

It also helps that, while Ruan Zheng (albeit obliquely) has been the pursuer previously, Luo Yu, having fallen in love with "Su Jiawen", ends up pursuing him. I really loved the flipped script here. And their relationship definitely equalizes a lot with these final chapters, with Ruan Zheng standing on equal footing with Luo Yu as a crime boss, and Luo Yu coming to love Ruan Zheng just as deeply.

The only real criticism I have is that there are certain things that are never really explained, such as: "Su Jiawen"'s time with Jiang Qi. I know it's implied that Ruan Zheng did all those things to himself to generate sympathy/love from Luo Yu, but it's never really explained how he did it. The chains? The "hickeys" on his body? The (fake?) s*x he was having with Jiang Qi over the phone? In the grand scheme of things, these aren't a big deal, but they're kind of noticeable shortfalls in an otherwise well-paced and well-constructed story.

Overall, this is one of those stories that made me want to reread it the moment I finished because it hit all my guilty pleasures. It's the perfect degree and combination of angst and fluff, and while the relationship isn't exactly healthy (and I don't think the author characterizes it that way either), it's certainly an equal one in the end, which is plenty good enough for me. <<less

"NOT ANYMORE." This sentence will hit you hard 2 times in the novel.

I totally love the story. At first you will think that the novel will be your typical cliche gangster fall in love with white lotus, but YOU WILL PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!

It's wrapped beautifully despite the short length. It has a bit angst but sweet, and a bit wicked (?) lol

Very entertaining short story with two very very messed up characters (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) . Haha

MC is one of the three big conglomerates/gangs that have control over Ping City (port city). They deal in the underworld: weaponry, prostitution, drugs (mentioned, not MC's thing) etc. There's a lot of what would typically be categorized as dubcon/rape/explicit scenes in the beginning, and all the characters shown are not "good/regular people" with "good/regular people morals." MC is not someone who is a white knight and saves people from horrible outcomes, so I... more>> don't recommend this if those tags are sensitive.

ML is utterly devoted. So devoted that he's willing to completely change himself and go along with anything the MC wants just to spend a little more time with him. So devoted he's willing to self-harm, manipulate, put himself in danger just to get a reaction from the MC.

I thought the story was very entertaining, especially the twist, and I do think the power dynamic evens out quite a lot and their relationship becomes very sweet as a result.

In the end, ML succeeds in getting the MC to fall in love with him and not only that, succeeds in making the MC love him despite of all the things he hid, lies and manipulations.

90% of the story is the MC doing whatever he wants to the ML and the ML submitting to him. But, when the two get together at the very end, the ML has become very willful too (their positions have reversed and MC is now doing the chasing) and the ML is no longer afraid of suppressing his own desires because he's successfully won the MC's heart. Very sweet!

Relationship dynamic switches

That about sums up the story. It is surprisingly deep for how short it is. I originally thought it was going to be like a silly gangster trope like in those mangas and anime. But this one gave me a shock. I was so shook a couple chapters in, mainly because all my prejudgments were subverted? Hahaha. They were real gangsters y'all. He literally bought the ML from a brothel. Both of them are not good people. We really can't expect healthy relationship dynamics from them and... more>> we don't get it. It was really intense to say the least. I was on the edge of my seat right till the freaking end! Oh my Lord, I loved reading it so much!! I loved watching MC going from a stone cold bastard to someone struggling with his own feelings to someone utterly smitten. And the character development during this whole journey was so delicious. OwO

Top it off with this being translated by one of my favorite translators with amazing quality and you can literally see me floating on clouding 9. The view is so great from there! Anyway, this novel is in my favorite pile~ You should give it a try. I won't ever regret recommending this! <<less

Short and sweet. Extremely consensual even though there's some deception. The novel is highly rated and always recommended for a reason.

I had to take a break reading because the second hand embarrassment on behalf of the MC was a little too real.

I wish the TL wasn't forced to hide their work, but you can still find the raws and MTL if you're not comfortable with joining some random discord.

It was very obvious who the ML is when he appeared. I'm glad that the ML's intentions were explained later on in the story. I would say the smut is very good. It was really sexy.

The MC and ML are not simple characters but they're deliciously flawed. I love the obsession the ML has for the MC such that he did all the things he did. It was quite funny when you know full well what things the ML tried to pull.

I love it when black-bellied shous tried so hard to put themselves on the gongs' bed. The MC wasn't a nice guy at the start since he has multiple flings before he met ML and treated ML like a whore. Seeing him slowly falling in love is really interesting. I like the push and pull methods ML used. There's no redundant dogblood/crematorium so the story was easy to digest and I could even say fluffy. The extras make the whole story even more heart-warming as you see their relationship progress. Those ending dialogues were amazing.

I had to reread the story a few times. Not because the story wasn't clear when I first read it, but because it's so good.

The MC and ML are both deliciously flawed. They're not even morally grey, they're pretty bad people. I don't even know who's the worst of the two, but they are so well-written. Kind of wish this story had been longer.

The smut is an integrated part of the story, something I haven't come across very often.

It's not a story for those who wants something light and fluffy. It's a dark story with dark characters, but the characters are believable and engaging. The MC isn't just tsundere, he's an a*hole, even if inside he's quite soft and simping for the ML (eventually). The ML's obsession is refreshing. The plot is very intriguing. <<less

A good short gangster story with plenty of smut and some minor angst. It reminded me a little bit of the yaoi series 'Finder' with Asami and Akihito ❤

The plot is fast-paced but did not feel lacking or incoherent. There are some minor inconsistencies but since we are dealing with a light-hearted novel, no need to delve too deeply into the 'why' and 'how'.

The only thing that annoyed me was the fact that Luo Yu sold off Su JiaWen but Jiawen never showed any reaction to it, nothing, not a word. That just does not seem believable or even consistent with his character. No matter how much of a s*xual M Su Jiawen is, it does not automatically translate to being an M all the time

A lot of other reviewers were saying this is angsty but IMO it's not really?

I'll say this; I'm a huge fan of dog blood drama and I do not find this story that dramatic like the rest of what I've read. There isn't any deep and frustrating misunderstanding but I see more of the sweetnees all around the couple. I love seeing them trying to stop from being affectionate from each other after the identity reveal. It's so cute. It is angsty ONLY at the middle and it didn't really... more>> stay that way.

Very lovely, an enjoyable easy-to-marathon story to read. I recommend. <<less

Ahh, I liked this novel a lot. Read it long ago and read it again cause it's a fun read. It is one of the few novels with an ultra-boss level shou. The plot was good and the author's writing style flowed well.

MC is rivals with two other crime bosses. ML, Ruan Zheng, is one of them. ML is in love with MC and plots to be with him. ML assumes the identity of another to sleep with MC. However, he falls more for MC and becomes MC's sugar baby.

There is more to the plot. It's entertaining to see MC being manipulated by ML, all while MC thinks he's the one in total control. It works out since MC was scummy so the reader feels no pity for him. Hahaha

Yes, MC falls for ML and stays with him even after his real identity is revealed. :)

The setting of Luo Yu falling for Su Jiawen truly felt like straight outta those scum gong novels with second chance but it was fairly exciting as we wonder how and when he will fall! Tho we could already deduce Su Jiawen is Ruan Zheng. His motive just keeps you wondering and when it gets revealed that he did it all because he was hopelessly in love with him. Damn wow!

lol I was wheezing when I read that RZ just wanted to r*pe LY at first but poor baby couldn’t help but want more. Actually this is my first time seeing a shou, who’s so smitten in love? Like most of the time in novels its just the gongs who are infatuated and obsessed. And so to see a shou who was so open, so loyal, so proactive and so sincere in his love and affections. Damn I actually felt totally overwhelmed by it! Especially the last scene of extras when LY realizes just how much RZ loved him so he asked him the exact opposite of what he asked before, to love himself a little more but RZ said not anymore and it just hits you how much this guy just loves LY.I don’t think I've ever been moved by a short novel this much.

RZ was train as a hard boil tough next in line gang leader (and because of his sweet delicate look his father train him more harshly.) But when he with LY he become soft and delicate (can't even hold his liquor) I find it abit ooc. But maybe because he mainly uses his brain rather his brawn (and in love) makes him like that? I love this!!!

Although it’s a short and quick story, the flow of the story is well thought-out. The characters are lovable especially ML!! He’s so cute!

The smut is very engaging and leaves you without any details. And the angst is just my taste!

I dislike the MC at first but he grew likeable gradually.

Overall, this is definitely worth reading if you’re looking for a short smut novel with a fluffy happy ending.

Such a good smut read with fun plot that keeps you engaged. It's pretty easy to guess early on the twist, but it is still interesting seeing how the author ends up explaining it. I didn't like the main character at first, but he grew on me as his character developed.

Overall, short, sweet, satisfyingly romantic read.
