My childhood friend Shida Kuroha seems to have feelings for me. She lives next door, and is small and cute. With an outgoing character, she’s the caring Onee-san type, this being one of her greatest strengths.

…But, I already have my first love, the beautiful idol of our school, and the award-winning author high school girl, Kachi Shirokusa! Thinking about it rationally, I should have no chances with her, but, while walking home from school, she only talks to me, with a smile even! I might actually have a chance, don’t you think?!

Or so I thought, but then I heard that Shirokusa already has a boyfriend, and my life took a turn for the worse. I want to die. Why is it not me?! Even though she was my first love…As I was drowning in despair and depression, Kuroha whispered.

—If it’s that tough for you, then how about we get revenge? The best revenge ever, that is~

The problem is always the same, the MC.

A loser who is manipulated and trampled by everyone.

The MC has a loser attitude and personality, specifically his mentality is that of a child (not a teenager) in which anyone can tell him something and he will believe it, on the other hand if he gets angry just give him a gum and he will trust again.

Spoiler

And no, a trauma does not make someone a "simple loser."

When I heard that this was getting an anime, I decided to read it but dear lord was I disappointed.

The problem is the MC. It's always the MC. He's a loser through and through with no backbone at all. Every single damn person around him plays him like a fiddle and no being in love ain't a good excuse whatsoever.

This would have been a hundred times better if he could just move the f*ck on. I mean the girl rejected him in front of the entire school and his best... more>> friend uploaded the video in youtube for millions to see but he still decides to forgive them.

There's a distinct line between being a forgiving person and being a doormat and the MC is basically the lowest among doormats.

The other characters are okay I guess. <<less

This is like ore no kanojo to osananajimi ga shuraba sugiru, except if you replace chiwa with a smarter, less stabby yandere, and then let her loose to watch the chaos begin.

This is about as much a love comedy as school days or otomedori would be considered one. It's just a few degrees darkness, r*pe, and mu*der removed or it'd genre shift to tragedy faster than a ghost pepper's kick.

It's not as 4D chess as Dungeon Defense, but it's still a good read in a novel landscape saturated with wet... more>> imitation cardboard characters. <<less

It's good but my only problem is the MC. He has no dignity and pride whatsoever bowing like a s*ave to get approval or whatever he wants at the time. I like that he at least has a speciality unlike any normie MC but his personality (just the bowing part) really get to me. Its irritating when he keeps doing the same thing (bowing) and with everyone watching him? Wow, for someone whos shy/timid I dont think he could do that.

Urghh he is not only a loser but also naive if he keep the way he is he will evolve to scum. He has a child mentality. But he is not the strongest loser. Hikigaya Hachiman should teachs him how to become a great loser 101. But he has pride. Maybe bowing is just like a yoga move to him same as Hachiman and that's Hachiman's pride as a loser he throws his pride and dignity that's his pride.. The MC here Haru kinda s*upid why does he wants to... more>> take revenge while he is the one that misunderstood her (his crush I forgot her name)

Also for real just go Kuroha route you dumb MC!! The only ultimate revenge is show those couple how happy you are with Kuroha rn.. Also notice it you idiot if you really love someone you will never want or afraid to hurt her.. So your love is not the real thing you're afraid to hurt Kuroha is bcus you love her that's why you don't want to touch her bcus you afraid it will hurt her even more

Spoiler

#TeamKuroha

[collapse]

Since I can't comment on the chapters bcus of some apparent reasons I will give my comment here... Go die MC!!! HAVING SUCH A CUTE CHILDHOOD FRIEND WHO ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF YOU BUT REJECTED HER WTH!!! I SWEAR THE GOD IF SHE IS NOT GONNA WIN I WILL URGHHHH!!! INSTEAD YOU LOVE SOMEONE BEAUTIFUL ASF WHO JUST TALKING AND SMILES AT YOU ALSO YOU THOUGHT SHE HAD A HOT FOR YOU!! SUCH A DUMB AND NAIVE MC

Edit: Okay I have read so much far ahead than this all I can say he is good for nothing, coward, naive and really s*upid as heck. I can say that Abe senpai is the real mastermind for now.. He is without a doubt a scum too.. Uhh since there's no good guy in this novel I will say this to you MC.. Take both of them!!!! (Kuroha and Kachi) <<less

At first, I really liked this slightly crazy rom com about the male lead and his childhood friend getting revenge due to unrequited love. However, my like for this show starts and ends with volume 1. The first volume is well done, there's good comedy, the twists are generally good and the ending felt right.

Spoiler

These good twists include the unrequited love interest not having a boyfriend and only acting the role in order to play a revenge plot on the MC. She is genuinely in love with the MC and stops her revenge plot after hearing his tragic past. The second good twist comes with the childhood friend character playing revengeception on the MC leaving him traumatised and humiliated at the end of the first volume.

[collapse]

However, the second volume is where things start to become either annoying or just damn right anger inducing. Every member of the MC's harem is a legitimate psychopath. You can't route for any of them because they constantly scheme against the MC to fulfil their desires and only giving him the illusion of freewill as to his future. The revenge helper childhood friend who traumatised him from the first volume somehow gets even worse making her completely unlikable as she schemes and lies to get back into the MC's good graces. The only male friend the MC has is also awful. His scheming literally affects the MC's entire future career path just so that he would join in their club making videos. Granted the boss of the acting company is also awful but at least give the MC a proper choice. Whilst usually the MC's character is fine, he isn't the smartest of characters and just blindly believes people even given their past actions.

Spoiler

The childhood friend fakes amnesia in the second volume in order to have the MC fall in love with her again, she's found out, traumatises the MC making him lose trust in her. For these events she never truly apologises or even tells the MC her real feeling which would more than likely have solved these events putting the both of them on the right path but no we'll likely see her continue to scheme. I believe that she's meant to be the main love interest given how the story's going but she is just so unlikable that I'm legitimately routing for anybody else because even if the other love interests scheme, their plots are generally harmless like orchestrating a beach trip or if it isn't they'll stop it before it goes too far.

[collapse]

Overall, I probably won't be continuing the series, but if you like your romcoms with with edge then maybe this is the series for you. Also, as an aside, the translation by CClaw is top notch. <<less

Everything is fair in love and war, is probably the closest thing I could describe this LN.

MC perspective is unreliable, which push the reader to figure out what is actually happening.

It was a fun read, especially when my guess is not far off from the actual answer.

In short, everyone is a manipulative a**hole. Oh and the MC is a super doormat. Now some of this is expected because it's a RomCom, but this series takes it way beyond anything cute/funny and just makes it painful. Like I don't even want any of the characters to be paired up because they're all just tr*shy manipulators trying to take advantage of the MC; an MC that just lets it happen and forgives them when it gets exposed.

Let the MC grow a spine, the "best friend" be stabbed by... more>> one of his many girlfriends (as he apparently has 7 of them at different schools), Kuro's heart be crushed and shredded, and Shiro and Maria can quietly move on (since it is a RomCom they're the most reasonable). But yeah, don't r commend this unless you like pain. And if you like pain then who am I to judge. <<less

Vol.1 is an interesting and funny circle of revenge but then Vol.2 turned everything into a massively dark cake with deceptively sweet icing.
Spoiler

Kuroha and Tetsuhiko being manipulative af. Shirokusa is the most "pure" and straightforward heroine so far, after the Cultural Festival stunt.

[collapse]

What's worse is Vol.3 isn't fully translated yet so I'm left with a bad taste of a Vol.2 cliffhanger in my mouth.

Spoiler

Kuro let "slip" to Haru that she really didn't have amnesia, but it's most likely part of the plan since Haru got close to Kuro again at the end, maybe having overcome his trauma already. Then again it's still a very scummy move as she isn't apologetic in the slightest. I can see lots of readers really rate her poorly at this point.

[collapse]

Looking at Vol.2's afterword, Haru was deliberately written as an idiot but I still feel sorry for the guy.

Spoiler

Being used by at least 3 people with varying levels of tr*shiness in their methods and motives.

[collapse]
I wish someone continues to translate this, as I'm still weirdly interested in how the relationships will fare (and with a slight hope that Haru gets treated the righteousness he truly deserve). Won't easily recommend this to others though.

A good romcom, it looks like a normal one though. The MC is really easy to be manipulated. The people behind are tetsuhiko and Kuroha. After all its good, the writing style is good, illus, and charas. If the MC is smart enough, it will change the atmosphere and might not be a romcom. First time making a review dontknow how to use spoiler feature

first volume started out great and it was a blast, back story, character development and misunderstandings and side characters. The novel seems like a typical romcom but there are twist and turns that throws you for a loop, your not going to be sure who to root for!

This... sucks

So the whole idea is "taking revenge". How? By getting the rejector fall for you, then reject her instead

Which would be a good premise but the problem here is that they don't have casus belli

... more>> The story starts with a boy who thought he's got a chance because this girl was kind. She somehow got a boyfriend and that's that. The MC never even confessed to her, therefore she never "rejected" him, the foundation of this "revenge". This is something you see within a couple chapters

Okay so let's put that aside for a moment. It'd be one thing if the novel ends after they got their "revenge", but it didn't, because they have multiple volumes. Now that the whole rejection thing is over, this novel devolves into a basic bit*h harem where all the FL fights over his affection. Oh, and by the way turns out *everyone* is a "childhood friend" so the whole idea of "only childhood friend will win" is bogus

Now, an easily manipulated character is one thing. It's really not that bad a trope, because you can easily pull all sorts of great twists with it. The biggest problem here is that *everyone* is a manipulator. By that I mean literally each and every single person in MC's group (except himself of course) manipulates him on a daily basis, and not the 4D chess style you see in, say, Classroom of the Elite. This is petty manipulations, and worst of all despite knowing about it MC refuses to take steps to not get manipulated anymore

It leaves a sour taste in my mouth <<less

Geniuenly one of the worst "romance" novel I have ever read.

The main cast and the side characters all have the maturity of a prepubescent, and that's when all of them are combined.

The writing for the characters are so unbelievable, they are more walking stereotypes than actual characters.

To say this novel was disappointing would be giving it too much credit, as I went in with 0 expectation and came out worse.

If I could rate this 0 star I would've done so in a heartbeat.

Story was funny at the start. But at some point, it became so s*upid. And when I mean at some point, it's probably the conclusion of each volume. Every other part of the story besides the s*upid MC were satisfactory until the author thought he was smart for pulling up some s*upid plot twist.

what a doormat MC which is really pitiful if you think about it

Spoiler

all the girls (when I said girls it's gonna be applicable to the heroines here) love him but when he confesses to one of those girls he gets rejected because of some revenge even though the one he confesses to loves him

while all the girls that confesses to the MC gets rejected though at some point whether past or future he confesses to that girl

it's so full of revenge that it's irritating, if they love him why should they reject him

well the author has milk some misunderstandings

[collapse]

wonder if all those that rated it high still feels the same, they should update their reviews cause from what I'm getting, only those that haven't read much rated this high

well if they still the same after catching up to the latest chap then all's good but if their minds changed, they should change the review cause it's gonna make some people have false hopes that it's good or an amazing read <<less

A by-the-numbers rom-com. There's not really much to complain – or praise – about it because this LN is [almost] exactly what it promises. It does stand out in a couple of different ways, however. The first of which being the tragic past of the MC, and secondly, the characters' dialogues which do feel genuine and not so incredibly dumb like in most high-school rom-coms.

Nevertheless, those two things don't particularly matter because the stakes are so low. All the deep, complex drama doesn't matter because we all know that both... more>> romantic interests will continue to be in love with the MC by the end given the way they're both developed from start to finish. And by the way, oh boy the MC is a dumbass; besides his one talent, he's pretty much a blank-slate protagonist that says some cheesy pick-up lines once in a while. You still kinda feel bad for him all-throughout the story, so it's not that much of a turn-off

In short, the drama makes it fairly interesting and unique, but the way the story pays off at the end is fairly bland and disappointing[in volume 1] though it is saved a bit with the appearance of another romantic interest. However, if you like high-school rom-coms, then this is definitely the novel for you. <<less

Fried bitter gourd with vinegar.

The somewhat unique fragrance draws you in from afar but the closer you take a look and try it, the more you doubt yourself and regret not keeping your distance. Stop at the first bite and enjoy the initial taste before the mid-story developments bring the bitter aftertaste from beyond. While jealousy is a plausible tool and motivation in a relationship, filling a fake harem around a doormat is a bit too painful.

The characters and backstory had a promising start which hooks you in, if you... more>> watch the anime, advisable to stop at episode 3 before the remaining episodes make the characters carry bitter aftertaste. I feel it's only a romcom if you treat this as gag comedy. <<less
