This story was just the right amount of fluffy cute comedy and drama. The ML actually really likes the MC and the MC is understanding. He's not like the white lotuses or green tea b*tches in other stories. The MC is actually pretty fine and doesn't force the ML to choose him over his family. If anything, Lin Dongyang is level headed enough that he complements the ML in aspects when he's too agitated.

And yeah, I somehow could see the second reviewer's point on why they're frustrated. However, they should... more>> know that Lin Dongyang did his best to refuse the 100, 000+ RMB gift he received. The ML was the one who insisted that he keep it or throw it, it was his choice.

The second reviewer might not know it but the MC soon enough confessed that that he was a man. From there, the story developed in a way that he and the ML became friends and turned into lovers as time progressed.

And yeah, the characters were interesting too. Lin Dongyang's friends were the complete set of the straight man, funny man and the guy who fools around. Nonetheless, they are all supportive of him even if they seem to be unreliable.

Like seriously, kudos for them since when Lin Dongyang was outed in the school as being in a relationship with the ML, they stood by his side and protected him. Fatty even made a scene in class all in order to find out who outed his friend's relationship. Like, he went to the class podium even if the teacher was there and questioned who did it. The loyalty he and their other friends have for the MC was really high that they even dared such a thing is amazing. The brotherhood they have is laudable.

The MC's parents might have disowned him. However, after the agreed three years, the ML's family accepted him as an in-law. To be exact, the MC has earned a high position in the company and gained the approval of a lot people. MC now call's ML's parents Mom and Dad and he was able to be with the ML now openly and act married with him. And yeah, the ML's sister supports their love so its great.

i just. Despise the ending. Like yes its a "happy ending" but MC and ML are put through so much pain and suffering by their parents and its just a "forgive and forget" scenario. The way their parents acted is basically not addressed at all. There's the whole "im sorry and ive changed" type of thing but it feels incredibly shallow and maybe im just a vindictive person, but I wished the parents suffered more.

so yeah thats why I rate it one star, purely for what I believe to be an incredibly shitty ending

Ignore the 5* review that was by mistake, I haven't finished reading this so I won't give any stars for now.

I am assuming that the first review above^ is supposed to be for a different novel...

this has minor spoilers but I don't want to add it in the spoilers section.

BUT this is so frustrating?? MC knows that ML is a guy, and MC lied to him about his gender but he isn't even trying to tell him that he's a man even after receiving expensive (worth 100, 000 RMB) presents... more>> from ML. I can't like MC's friends either, they also know MC lied to ML about his gender but they still drunk texted ML something like "be my boyfriend" from MC's WeChat. Like how can one read this and not feel angry and frustrated? <<less

Its a hit or miss. For me, I didnt feel it. Its ur typical, cliche, enemy to lover, rich guy x poor guy, cold hearted gong x bright sunny like shou story with very unoriginal scenes like getting attacked my gangs and shou getting overly worried or shou getting hit on by a stranger and gong warning him to stay away from said stranger. Oh heres a good one, shou scooting super close to gong while putting medicine on him that results in an awkward position. Theyre very cliche, really... more>> cringe, some plots im just like... how does that even work? Also the "forgiving and forget" attitude shou has is a bit... annoying and ull see that all throughout the novel.

For example, shou's friend in my opinion is a jerk. Shou is stressed and frustrated about a situation. then his friend comes in and turns it all into a big joke, even dug shou into a deeper pit and f*cked him over again and again but shou is just like "i can't blame friend because its all my fault to begin with." And thats that.

although I didn’t real like how MC and ML parents kinda just act like they didn’t try and ostracize their kids and flat out disown them. I’d be pretty pissed if my dad assaulted me and locked me up and then started handing out ultimatums 🤨

Honestly, it’s not a bad ride. You’re in line for a rollercoaster, it looks menacing- thrilling even, & the suspense building up is awesome... only for the drop to suck ass. This is the same in that sense. I personally enjoy the premise; it screams secondhand embarrassment & cute misunderstandings. It gave the impression that it would be a lighthearted & cute story. & For the most part, YES it’s cute & YES there’s dog food.

I like the fact that... more>> it didn’t take ten thousand years for the main characters to see that they were into each other. But the major “conflict” that took place was just a waste of time & character development. It pretty much screwed up the personalities already built up & introduced a rather machina deus ex ending that was poorly written & rushed.

like why... WHY would the author utilize a time skip to cover up all of the plot holes? There was so much potential! If only it was expanded & fleshed out, it could’ve been a really great story. But instead it ended chaotically, details were sparse, & it seems that the author wanted this story to be over asap.

It was a good read for me.

Well among all this the only disappointment was the author didn't show a reunion of mc's friends. It wasn't even mentioned once in future.

They were very supportive throughout the time MC was suffering and I expected a small mention of them but it was nowhere to see. As Ml's best friends was nowhere to see after years.

Overall it was a good past time.

It's a good ride at the beginning. They got together at the 70% of the novel.

After they got together, they kind of giving me the feeling that they won't last long. At multiple times I imagines them as the beginning of those BE novels where they breaks-up after 7-10 years of relationship; either with the MC dying, already dead, or the ML cheats until the MC is having suicidal thoughts.

When they're separated for 3 years, MC is having poor living conditions, and he has to do heavy job in the warehouse of ML's parent company. So yeah, it would definitely show on his face, skin, and all that. After 3 years, the MC won't be as beautiful as the first time ML met him. Meanwhile ML's only job is to study abroad with no worry about anything.

So yeah, the MC and ML don't give me the satisfaction of reading BL novels where they will stay together until death do us part.

BUT the author is (of course) wants to picture the MC and ML as having the kind of deep love where they would stay together until death. It's a good intention turned bad.

The author really, really rushed the ending.

The parents of both MC and ML (especially ML) have strong opinions against them being together. ML's parent want to separate them, and then forcefully sends ML to UK for 4 years to study. And strangely, ML's parent suddenly turns amicable and all friendly towards MC when 3 years has passed and ML comes back (no explanation why 4 years turns into 3 years).

What I don't understand is why is the author rushing the end? If the author wants to picture their love as ever lasting, it's good to drag the novel, not rushing the end like this. It really disappoints me.

And one last thing, I want to talk about ML's childhood friend, named An Qi.

An Qi's character is really, really similar to MC. They have this bright personality, and have positivity in life. In some cases, An Qi is even brighter than MC. Which is why I sometimes think that this novel would be a good prequel for a BE novel where the ML actually has a white moonlight in his heart, whereas the MC has really sacrificed a lot for them but got nothing in the end.

  1. You're telling me that MC & ML have been playing a game long enough to be friends, and MC never had the chance to make it clear that he was a boy before ML even confessed?
  2. MC didn't confess his real gender when the ML confessed. This in itself was already a big moral failing but it's a plot point so okay. So why didn't he just block ML's chat? Why not unfriend him in-game?
  3. The ML kept pushing MC even after being rejected, and even sent him very expensive gifts even after MC told him he wanted to return the gifts. How is this romantic? This is creepy af and if MC was a girl, everyone would be calling ML a harasser. But here, it's treated as nothing.
  4. MC's friends made it even worse by pretending to be MC and accepting ML as his online boyfriend. They knew perfectly well that this was deception and that MC himself wasn't gay. Am I supposed this kind of deception find this funny and cute?
  5. Again, why didn't the MC just block the ML if he was so afraid of meeting him? Why did he have to keep deceiving him?

All this s*upidity happening in 12 chapters killed my brain cells and patience for this. I understand that reading fiction requires suspension of belief but no matter how much I suspend my belief for this story, it gets broken every single time by the brainlessness that the author wants to force upon the characters. There isn't even a single valid reason that can be taken out from the storyworld's logic itself that could validate whatever was going on. It's not like the writing and the character settings were stellar and unique either, so nothing really holds up.

The first few chapters of a story also serves as the foundation of what will come next. If the foundation is already broken like this, am I supposed to sift through the ruins for some bits of gold? <<less

Why is this rated so low?! It's so good! Compared to other masterpieces of course it's lacking. The pacing is perfect and I enjoyed every cute fluffy moment they shared together (be it them bickering or in love). I'd say this is more slice of life, therefore if you are looking for something more exciting, then maybe this would not be your cup of tea. However, if you love fluff, college romance and the rich seme/gong trope, then by all means, this is a great one. I even teared up... more>> towards the end 🥲 <<less

Really good characterization, you get a strong sense of what everyone is like very quickly. The writing and translation are enjoyable. Relationship is fluffy and teasing but respectful, and they have good communication for the most part.

However, I feel like the pacing was uneven, the online relationship is barely mentioned after they meet, and the genre switches from sweet campus life to dogblood ultrawealthy CEO at the end. I was left with a feeling of fatigue instead of satisfaction.

And I do wish we heard more about the roommates and classmates,... more>> but it feels like maybe the author got rushed later on.

No chrysanthemums, every kiss is just biting, not one you read for the smut, just pining and mortification.

Was worth getting through the password lock for, it's completely finished, don't be deceived!

4/5, it was a good read, just definitely wish it was better in the ways I mentioned.

How To Fail At Online Dating was better imo, delivers more of what I wanted. <<less

I read properly up until chapter 15 or smth and skipped some chapters and read like only the dialogue of conversastion.

MC is too kind tbh, its to the point of pissing me off. His friend such an ass but he just like mad for a bit and then forgive them and would rather blaming himself. Its like he is all bark no bite.

Okay he is at fault because he is hiding his true gender but its not like he is purposely seducing ML or something with his faking gender. And... more>> he even rejected ML confession and gift already and even warn him about the danger of online dating etc but ML just so persistent.

ML just so unreasonable and childish, really. I skipped some chapthers to see if he'd change but nope he is still as unreasonable as ever. Idk if yall think he is hot or smth but for me he is just annoyingly unreasonable a**hole.

And its supposed to be comedy but I cant even laugh, its pissed me of instead. <<less

If you wanna read something cute, fluffy, college kinda novel then you have to come to the right place. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS NOVEL.

I'm sorry this is my first ever doing a review on NU as I don't usually do any reviews but after seeing how many low rates there were for this novel, I just wanted to write this review to encourage more people to give this novel a try as it is really amazing. pls don't be quick to judge the novel after reading the first few chapters.

I was deceived. There is no gaming in this novel. Well, there is slightly but barely. I also thought this was going to be a light-hearted ultra-comedy... Until the 10 chapters or so.

Otherwise, it's a sweet story with a coherent plotline and an amazing cast of characters. It's a good light read and the ending arc (even with it's 'fantastical' ending) was a more realistic and down to Earth.

The process in which MC and ML get together is slower in pacing but written in a way where they walk into... more>> love rather than fall into it. But by doing so it provides a strong foundation for the challenges a young, same-s*x relationships in a conservative society will go through.

Overall, a sweet story, albeit too too short. I would've loved it if the timeskip was elaborated a little more. But at least there's no frustrating misunderstandings or drama between the leads. <<less
