"One Man Army". When a novel has that kind of title why in the world would you expect the MC to NOT be freaking op?

This is a power trip fantasy and I'm perfectly ok with that. At the very least, it's definitely 10 times better than all the harem garbage filling this website. So far, there has been no romance at all actually. Just Virtual Reality action mixed with some real life bits.

What I like about this novel is that the MC is not a blithering idiot (like the guy... more>> from Emperor of Solo Play) - after becoming rich in game and earning a sizeable sum of money in reality as well, the MC didn't just stop trying to evolve. Instead, he started looking for ways to invest his real money and earn more, not letting his money just "rot". He realizes the difference between having real money and in-game currency. Furthermore, he is not just hoarding money mindlessly, he enjoys the fruits of his labour too: like buying a new house, a new car etc.

The MC also gets some character development gradually, from being a jaded person who distrusted everyone around him at the start of the story to actually gaining 2-3 persons he can call 'friends' and trust them.

As for the virtual reality game, it's not boring. But I gotta admit the MC's abilities sure are broken. BUT the creator of the game is not blind to how exceptional he is.

Spoiler

In fact, the creator of the game "punished" the MC for being too strong lmao. Whenever one of his attacks passed a certain level of power, a particular skill would be invoked which despite accomplishing the initial goal - that of destroying the enemy - it would annihilate any exp gain and any other rewards he might have obtained from killing that mob/boss/enemy player.

So basically the MC had to avoid using his maximum potential or all of his efforts for levelling/earning items&titles would become meaningless.

[collapse]

Due to coming back in time from the future, the MC knows almost everything concerning the game - what quests to do, where to find secret dungeons, which mobs to kill and what resources to gather. He has monoplized almost everything good out there, the other guilds barely getting some scraps.

As you will progress through the story you will see that he is truly a One Man Army. <<less

Premise, a gamer goes back in time to do better. Weepy backstory of being an orphan as well as him living on scraps to save for later. Alright that seems normal and he just builds up by practicing before jumping into time capsule. Ugh why not give us a montage but oh well it isn't so long. He jumps in and gets some unique stuff and fights his first opponent. Oh he defeats nameless mob and continues on. Well that's pretty much 9 chapters and to be honest it isn't... more>> anything new that others haven't done. Three stars despite it probably being two just because I like gaming novels and cheapskate MCs. <<less

I will be honest I am bad at opinions.

I'm not exactly sure why I like this but if there was one thing it was probably how enjoyable is the MC "one man" show with his guild.... One. The situation of one person breaking the balance of a game seems to interest me as I also liked Emperor of Solo Play. Although this novels does better with justification and overall writing. With attempts to balance him ending up backfiring and pushing the downward spiral further.

The MC is a bit robotic at... more>> first but is quite interesting after with them becoming friends with others showing actual growth. <<less

Have you ever had a friend describe to you the story of a book, movie or series instead of actually watching/reading it? That's exactly how this novel feels, its doesn't feel like reading a story as much as someone explaining the story to me.

The basics of storytelling are basically discarded, the author focus too much in description and info dumps instead of dialog and character development, there's BARELY any talk, and when there is dialogue is the minimum possible, things like "And they went to drink for a whole day"... more>> are constant in this story, instead of showing us the interaction between characters and show their personalities.

All I can say is that the game is somewhat (?) interesting but at the same time extremely broken, as for the characters? Well after 100 and some chapters I haven't got attached to any because there's no dialogue, the main thing to any media is "Show don't tell" well they do it the other-way around in this novel, they don't show us things happening, they only tell us that things happens.

The one exception is the game mechanics and combat, which is pretty boring to say the least, the main character has no journey or any sort of development, he is a workaholic that sleeps 2 hours a day to play the game the other 22, the whole thing is so wrong and full of holes that I don't even know where to start.. And sinse the author didn't put any effort to display the characters.. I don't really feel like putting any effort into reviewing the boring info dump that he calls "Novel"

2/5 basically because the game mechanics are a bit different, but the novelty is only there for like first 20/30 chapters, its pretty boring really.. Not that I can't accept apathetic/anti-social protagonists, I actually like them.. Reverend Insanity is my favorite novel ever.. But this protagonist is so edgy that he walks between rain drops.. <<less

I have never read anything as boring as this. So MC goes back in time, knows every secret, becomes OP the first day and there is no emotion to the story. I've read many novels of this genre and have seen not one as poorly written as this one.

I recommend the readers to not waste time. Reasons below:

The above is not even the worst part, the worst is how everything that will only exist in a single sentence will be described in half a chapter if not more. Everything is... more>> repetitive like: "Is this the Dark Knight?" "Oh he looks like the Dark Knight" "But could it really be the Dark Knight?" This happens within 6 sentences.

Another thing that bugs me is how the author boot licks the MC. Ex: *MC kills ANY freakin mob* Author: "He did it easily, but of course not anyone could have killed a lvl1 bunny, no, it required skills that he got from his past life plkaying and being a director and not only that, he's skills were rusty still so ofcourse the MC is much more stronger than lvl1 bunny"

I tried reading chapter after chapter hoping for it to get better and completely lost my patience at chapter 22 (I've kept up with novels with over 2000 chapters), this novel made me waste 22 chapters. <<less

It's average. That's what I can say. It doesn't have any strong point against other vrmmo novels here. There is nothing that makes you instantly put off here. I'd say that it is worth a little bit less than 4.0 rating if it is based solely on the story itself.

The story is using the usual trope of second chance. A man is returned to the past after some kind of bad incident. Having the power of foreknowledge, he tries to make a better life in his second chance. You can... more>> find this kind of story in emperor of solo play, rebirth of the thief who roamed the world (am I writing the title right?), and many others. That's why, when you see the protagonist, there's nothing that stands up compared to the others. He gains some kind of advantage against the others due to foreknowledge, become the first in accomplishing things (and gain advantage due to that), repeat until he's nauseous. If that's your choice of story, go ahead. This kind of story is my guilty pleasure too. If anything, this story feels like it lack plot other than, "Go to the past, become a professional level gamer". There is no subplot introduced as of ch32 (or maybe it is too subtle for me to discern). <<less

It's made to make money only. There's no quality control, translation is very bad, all the plots are sudden and it only seems like the author is trying to earn money while not giving any proper effort. Too many forced plots and MC's personality always changes in the middle to end of novel. Not even to the level of decent novel.

Why the hell the author use the words ‘As-salāmu ʿalaykum’ as a spell incantation, does not sound good to me. And if I don't remember wrong, all the spell on this novel is using arabic. I tried to ignore the spell but the author always over explain about what the MC do, how amazing he is and everything he do, its as if the author wanted to fill the words count. The more you read the more you feel bored reading this novel and that's why I drop it from... more>> my reading list. <<less

Man, I just love this series. Like come on MC regresses and he becomes op so op that game admin had to interfere to seal his power. But the thing I like is he takes advantage of it and becomes rich and op. I have read other regresses but in those they don't take advantage of the situation and there is no plot armor. Everything is pretty much explained and I like the one man army style. But still there are some differences like why didn't he report the workshop... more>> and all that sh*t and why did he participate in war between the guild and the workshop as a mercenary which will clearly result in children getting more and more abuse. But still pretty wholesome novel. Definitely worth a read. <<less

It gets boring by the 80th chapter but I forced myself to continue reading. Unfortunately I can't get pass chapter 100 because the scenarios are too repetitive. Gets items/dungeons ahead of everyone because of his cheats he fights monsters to get them, wipes out an entire guild like a knife cutting through butter etc etc...

The fight scenes gets really boring really fast that I just skip that all together. The way he easily gets rare items and titles is not very exciting and its really annoying how the author tries... more>> to portray the MC as not OP when he clearly is OP to the point that it's boring. Honestly I think its much more interesting following the side characters rather than the MC.

Also the way the story is written is way too narrative that there's barely and dialouge in the story. The author also explains too much to the point that he repeats it after explaining it in an earlier chapter. It's like he thinks we're so s*upid that we won't understand it after explaing it once. I realized this issue by chapter 2 but I kept going to give it a chance, now I'm regretting it. <<less

Is extreme generic. (2.5/5)

  • The MC Personality: "too cool to show emotions" because everything goes as he expect and he already very experienced with playing the game, he show but the barest emotions when he think how his life s**ked in the past. So is boring, but you wouldn't get mad because of it.
  • The Supporting Cast: Virtually None, because MC is a Lone Wolf that was betrayed.
  • The enemies/villains: None, no one can compete, who ever show up is easy dispached, including Monster or Guilds.
  • The World Building: There seen to have a hint of an interesting world build, but because he treat it like any other game quest (skip, skip, do objective), the NPCs have like 5 lines of dialogue on the novel, so don't expect any LMS life like reactions.
  • Plot: Follow MC as he shows the walkthrough of the game, speedrun style, so don't expect anything but the most objective result of his actions, and because his experience and skill are so absurd alongside the fact that the game gives ridiculous "first" reward, MC is invincible, while any change in the future is but minimal, despite the fact he keeps sucking dry the market because he know what will become expensive later.
  • Combate: 99% of the combate is made off screen and the few parts that are show, just go on and on how superb his control, skill, timing, dodge is. So not very exciting,
  • Positive Point:
    • The gimmick of his class, could be interesting, but soon become literaly "pull out the card to reverse situation".
    • The implied game lore, that is so criminally underused, seen interesting enough.
    • The main Game mechanic of fusing subclasses to create "unofficial" synergies, could be interesting but because the MC is so OP it bare matters.
    • There is some enjoyment in following the MC new plan to get stronger and get money from people but it all very straightforward so the satisfaction of him doing it is minimal.
    • Fast pace story, so you can read it if you don't want to think too much.
  • Negative Points:
    • MC interactions are akin to read a manual, very pratical but without much emotion
    • Almost no interaction with others
    • No competition or dificult, everything goes as MC plans.
    • Boring world, filled with goblin, wizards, kights. That play extremely similar to any MMO you may play today, so the world is pretty much static

Very little suspense, MC is wearing such heavy plot armor if he can't 1 hit or face rank a raid boss the game is broken.

MC says he was betrayed in the past but his personality is that of a greedy toad, and full on hypocrite.

The game lacks serious balance, it's suppose to be competitive esport. But unique titles allow players to one hit others. Titles are so absurd you can solo bosses 25 levels higher than yourself.

Due to the way droprates work with some items having 1 in 100 billion... more>> on bosses making the items virtually unobtainable unless your the MC.

The first 50 chapters were pretty good but the MC personality and plot armor affect the rest of the story to the point where the setting is unbelievable so the story just doesn't work.

Your better off reading kings avatar. <<less

It's alright, but really just because I like VRMMO novels. I get kind of uncomfortable when the MC gouges people for money, especially because he's kind of doing it for no discernible reason other than "just because". Around chapters 50ish, the author likes to talk about how one of the guilds betrayed him first and so he got revenge... but honestly, he was the one pushing that guild into a corner in the first place so the reasoning falls flat.

Closer to chapters 100 or so, MC becomes incredibly OP to... more>> the point where not only does he not have rivals, but even whole guilds aren't a match for him alone. It's kind of cool to read, but in another sense it's also boring - he always wins. <<less

I like how theres no deadweight team cliche so the MC can show off, and useless bystander comment fillers. Simple and fast paced. Also I heard its like overgeared where theres transition from game to real life where the MC experience character growth. Since this is a korean novel, I sincerely hope the ending will not be rushed, as evident from many korean novels.

Also

Spoiler

I like warm hugs.

This novel similiar to one other novel that I liked, and I like this kind MC too. But, the details appear too vague, like somethings that I considered important appear too vague and not detail at all. Even I confusing what time or how long he doing things, how much time passed since he started the game, the time didn't get mentioned either. And also how much rate gold ig and real cash, until this chapter I don't think I ever read about it.

I liked it. Have read till the current translation end, would've continued. Liking the idea of a lone MC, even though he's lately formed a small group of friends. MC isn't just having the knowledge and fresh start, he even has top-notch talent (in prev life he didn't get a chance to shine with it though). MC feels mature. No romance pretty much (only in the prev life), but there's the NPC relations lately + some minor development in that field irl as well, so you might save expectations. Lots... more>> of grudges like always but MC isn't really obsessed with those, only takes the chance if it's nearby (he didn't even go all out to stop that s*avery group, which is somewhat strange, considering that MC got quite some money for investigating to report afterwards + there's clues around even though he said it's difficult... just get the detectives to the orphanage and track down stuff, man..).

The game aspects are alright, somewhat even unique at some place (the ancient knowledge slots like multiclasses etc).

The most ridiculous thing though is that: 1. admins figured out that MC is way too OP. 2. admins started wondering how to downgrade him. 3. admins created the strong title system for loners mostly just for the MC in the end (because none others are that OP).... what's up with the logic?

Overall i'd say it's around 4+ but will put 5 just cause it seems undervalued to me on this site... <<less

the quality is depend on reader personality. If you are patient and normal, like game novel than it is good. If you are after a whole perfect then it is bad. He have bad point but that how human are, why require that. It is shame that he continue to play game instead of live a normal life but if he do that how can we read this. Also his talent lied on game, then play game to make money and if he good at anything else he may could... more>> do it already. EL will absolutely give him money but another job can be as good as that. <<less

I have read several korean RPGS and this one is the best one I have read till now. I will list the reasons.

  1. In the early chapters you may get confused but try to understand the translation is a bit off, the editing is bad but if you can understand it the game elements are really wonderful. It's a unique way, the acquiring class through punching souls.
  2. World building is incredible. The author goes to show what happened here and there, thereby gives us information bynot by putting it in front of us but through context.
  3. MC is loner you won't find him interacting with other till late so no need for side character development.
  4. Revenge is carried out exactly as it deserves.
  5. it suffers from lack of plot but then we don't get plot Armor attacking us so it's a good thing till some extent. Due to this the story is slow placed initially
  6. The author rushes things it is the most recurring thing I observed in KR novels. The rush things as I explained due to no plot Armor attacking you don't need to rush things but the author rushes it.
  7. Overall good story don't overlook this novel because of other comments about the early chapters they are slow but very well made for the plot.

First, this is mainly about a man who goes back in past and centered on him playing a video game, I won't write much about the story itself in details, important thing to know beforehand is that the world in this novel has a huge advance in virtual reality.

I personally really like the setting on this game, the way the game is played and how the owner of the game doesn't have much impact on the player base.

I've read quite a few novels centered on VR games, first time there... more>> is actual explanation behind the effect of being attacked/killed, I liked this a lot.

(some spoils from here, though anyone expect those, still, warning)

A little problem (POW) which just becomes bigger as the story goes is that it feels actually a bit rushed, there is not much explanation on how dungeons or hunting is, but still there is some so it's ok since we can see the abilities of the MC however, when it's pvp battles it really feels like OP MC POWER.. the game is supposed to have so many different abilities available yet he still stomps over everything in his path by overpowering everyone.. I'm not fond of it but it's understandable by things like his items or titles BUT when he enters tournaments he is pushed back to use few things in 1v1, so well..

and last downside is that his personnal life has basically no information, absolutly nothing from the time he leaves the orphanage. eat sleep sport play eat play sleep play eat..... a bit sad and that's why 4/5 stars

overall, read this novel if you want an interested VR game novel with OP mc <<less
