I really really like this novel if not for the fact that the translation skip like 2 chapters near the end and proceed to the next volume, or the fact that the translator practically skipped 2 whole volumes then proceeds to the next one.

Guess I'll just wait for the manga ver. Slow update. It's getting hard to follow the story with all the skips as well as the colossal amount of grammatical errors.

I'll rate it 5 simply because I like the story.

What an underrated gem of a series. I really enjoy it, and I wish more people checked it out. It's a romantic comedy/drama set in a normal high school setting and story-wise reminds me of a mix between Toradora and Bottom-Tier Tomozaki.

The plot follows a male otaku MC and female riajuu FMC (so essentially a boy who likes anime and such, and then a girl who is socially popular), but the two like others who are out of their league. The MC likes a certain girl but is too shy... more>> and socially awkward to get close to her, while the FMC likes a different otaku guy but cannot relate to him or talk to him since she isn't an otaku herself.

The story progresses with the MC and FMC forming an unlikely partnership, teaching each other and providing opportunities to help the other get closer to their high school crush.

My favorite aspect is the partnership between these two, which actually reminds me of the partnership in Toradora with Ryuuji and Taiga helping each other with their respective crushes. Aside from that, I also love the growth of the main character so far; he starts out as a bit of a loser and loner but gradually improves socially just like in Bottom Tier Tomozaki (I've only read 3 volumes so far, and I see that he has lots of room to improve still too).

And lastly there's a lot of fun humorous moments when he messes up, but there's also plenty of heartfelt moments where you see the friendship and camaraderie of the two leads, which I found really sweet and touching. I highly recommend checking the series out if you enjoy high school romcoms and the premise sounds interesting to you. <<less

Quite normal love comedy at first I thought. But surprisingly novel after a while.

Reading it felt really... Nostalgic. Or well. Made me recall a lot about my youth and how I lived. Few novels have really managed to make me go back in time so much and reminisce on it. Because of this, a lot of the character interactions and such felt a lot more alive and vivid to me.

Comedy, characters and a plot etc is pretty okay. So average overall. First few vols go pretty quickly, although I think... more>> that after that stuff start go more dragged out. Drama start to get heavier, which is like alright. It's a romance so whatever. Mostly the drama cringe isn't too hard though. So quite enjoyable.

Series got finished on a pretty okay note on vol 10. Almost seemed like the publishers wanted to push to it become done? Then it afterwards they wanted a continuation? Weird choices.. Donno what went around there..

But because of this, the + 4 university arc stuff feels quite lacking. Same drama happening and it's highly cringe this time. New chars being added and overall just felt like a drag... Can't really recc those vols. Felt more like milking the series than anything.

The + Azuki vol also felt more like a disgrace tbh. Author could have continued from the last events. But nooo. Had to do a from the start again kind of plot. Boring, repetitive and emotionally inadequate. So lets pretend this vol doesn't exist.

So in the end. It can hit your heartstrings in a pretty novel manner if you're lucky. Otherwise it's quite okay/good kind of quality. Overall quite enjoyed it anyway. <<less

I want to like this novel with all my heart and mind, ad give 5 star rating but I can not.

It's not badly written at all, on the contrary, it's well written enough for light novel standard. All of the characters have depth and they're all interesting in their own way. Even the wussy main character develop in such interesting way that you still recognize him even after reading so much, but overall, his character had grown.

My issue lies entirely in the forced love triangle.

The fact is that, you can't... more>> make a convincing love triangle without giving almost equal amount of development to both heroines. No, it was worse than Toradora, in that it tries to convince reader that character C had a chance despite the development between A and B is plastered everywhere.

Main character and Heroine both have people their likes, but their development with them are extremely shallow.

It's very obvious that they have no chemistry, and MC and Heroine is destined to be together. But this entirely predictable romantic development was dragged so much that it's get tiring. I didn't even need to spoiler it because it was so obvious.

Because of this, the romance section of the story become a chore to read, while the friendship ones actually more interesting to read.

Overall, not the worst thing to read, but it does full of squandered potential. <<less

This series reeks of tropes, but the way they are used makes the story interesting. It is a bit of an uninteresting story at first but the improvement is there (in my case, the last chapters of volume 1 convinced me to keep reading).

PROS

  • Diverse cast of characters: once again, plenty of tropes but still enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed some of the interactions, as none of the characters' quirks is without a reason.
  • High school romance without harem
CONS:

  • IMHO, the main problem is the over-dramatization. I mean, I love when the events are detailed and everything is explained in detail. However, I can shake the feeling this entire series could have ended in 8 volumes or less, thanks to all the misunderstandings and especially because of the MC's lack of assertiveness.
  • The first volume feels a bit of a forced read, so please endure. It gets better at volume 2 onwards
  • Spoiler

Again, IMHO, but my waifu didn't get the best ending I was hoping for, even after everything she did. ಥ﹏ಥ
