Review as of volume 1.

Despite the initial shoujo-like feeling one would get from the cover and the synopsis, the story is a little more developed than one might think. Don't be fooled by the small number of chapters for the first volume, each chapter is quite lengthy. Much of the first volume is about Leticia's efforts to convince her first knight recruit, and until the dramatic parts near the end readers might be thinking this is just a story where the princess collects handsome, eligible men around her. Well, that... more>> is the basic premise but the story goes deeper.

Princess Leticia has a problem. Her two very capable elder brothers are fighting for the throne. In exasperation, their father chose the princess to be the heir instead. The country and court became tense as this unexpected development created an uneasy truce between the three siblings. To cement her qualifications as the heir, she must form a knightly order of her own and gather loyal knights to serve her cause as per the legends of the 12 Swords of Promise. The swords themselves are considered lost, but the tradition remains as an initiation of sorts.

Unknown to all, the Princess always knew this was going to happen. Unlike the typical princess, Leticia is no wallflower. She had prepared herself for this succession conflict from a young age, for she is the reincarnation of the legendary Knight King and heir to his 12 Swords of Promise. She possesses the ability to go into the Knight King's Space, an ability shared by previous and future reincarnations of the Knight King. A magical room of time and space where various kings from different points of their lives appear and hold council, giving advice to each other. It also serves a place for the kings to rant and de-stress as they seemingly share nuggets of each others destinies, histories and futures with each other without too much concern; as if fates are set in stone and unchangeable except for minor details that is so often lost with the passage of time.

This isn't a fluffy shoujo story, but a dramatic one aimed at young adult readers like "Kyo Kara Maou!" but with a female lead instead of a male. There are light hearted moments, some comedy, but the underlying story is still about a political mess that broke up the relationship between royal siblings. Assassinations and treachery abound, not to mention mystical antagonists that date from the Knight King's era are still lurking. The translation is well done and the same team is also doing the scanlation for the manga adaptation as well.

Decently well written retread of the genre with a heroine that has personality and unique advantages. <<less

Please consider reading this novel. I feel online novels suffer from underdevelopment of the characters, but this novel has much more depth and quality to it. The characters are believable and the cause and effect for each individual is meticulously planned. The translation has been done very well and I don't think there is any loss of content from the original story. Although there are few chapters out, they are much longer so it is a very satisfying read.

I'm amazed... actual CHAPTERS instead of a single page labeled as a chapter. This is too intense for me.

Aside from that, translation quality is fairly great, the story is nice and detailed, and the writing is pleasant.

I've always disliked stories about political dramas because they simplified how twisted and complex things would really be. They would have some impending threat and simply sweep in and miraculously fix it. Real political strife is complex, dirty, and not always for a reason other than because they don't want someone else to... more>> have one up over themselves. Real politics have no real solution other than complete destruction of all parties involved because for one to come out on top at least one other has to be at the bottom. This story takes a complex political situation in which there is no real answer and procrastinates as problems come and go, either being solved or resolved in some manner while still being an underlying issue (damn, just like real life). So, I might not like political dramas, but this story does a decent job of having that sour in the gut feeling I get from real life political problems. <<less

Pure art. The translation is made with love and the story is excellent. Even if Leti is the MC, we are charmed by the side characters and their problems, even the other Knight King's incarnations from the past and the future grow on the reader and make you wish to see their tales too.

Leticia is queen material. She is the very definition of a powerful queen. She has intelligence plus the supernatural powers of the inheritance of kings. She is straightforward, hardworking, and generous. She is strong willed and decisive. One of the very best shoujo queens I have ever seen.

The novel introduces a very familiar setting of a monarchy and a strife for the crown but then there are twists and turns to it. Leticia is in no way powerless and helpless about the decision of the king to pass the crown... more>> to her in the middle of an eventual outbreak of civil war between her two brothers, rather she shows no reactions and has prepared herself for it when she was little. She has an amazing mental fortitude. Neither is she happy or troubled, but she took it as it was expected and set out to prove that she is competent. But, in no way is she arrogant but she admits her weaknesses and scrambles to fix those flaws, with pride. Usually, in these kind of stories, the brothers will be antagonistic and will try to harm the princess. But that’s wrong. In this story, the brothers puts a great amount of love for our protagonist. They cares about her like close siblings even though sometimes they don’t show it on the outside because of the gradual drift between the three because of the fight for succession throughout the course as they grow up. Even so, their sibling love never died but rather, they are shown to come running to her rescue when she is in danger. They are both competent enough to become kings, but they also believe that Leticia is no easy person to make enemy out of, although they have no intention of doing so. They believe in her abilities. Leticia doesn’t neglect the fact that she also loves and cares for them either. She puts priority to her brothers’ lives than hers when the situation calls for it. She is pained by their drift even though she never expresses it. Their sibling love deserves admiration.

Now, so far, Leticia has collected three characters for her round table so far (almost 4 in the manga as it goes with a slightly different plot). Each one has a distinct personality and very likable. There is character development and growth especially from the second member and third member. There is also romantic developments between Duke and Leticia although it is slow and not very noticeable. They are so cute and fit together like puzzle pieces.

Although the 12 swords are not fully introduced and so is the ghost/dark energy. The supernatural elements are somewhat vague as we probably need background information on the king Christian because he started the chain. So far, we have enough bits of information and little encounters with the ghost/dark energy. She is also gradually getting deeper into that conflict.

The novel balances the focus of political events and the supernatural events on an equilibrium. The romance is a bit on the lesser side. It is really enjoyable, however, as the political and supernatural mixes. Right now, I’m waiting for more members to join her adventure party because she doesn’t have nearly enough people for support. She gets in a lot of dangers, whether that will be from the brothers’ factions of nobles or the ghost/dark energy. She does get help from other people but she also uses her own powers to topple out of it. She looks so badass every time.

Overall, it’s enjoyable and balances things quite well. It delivers itself in a clear way. Although the pace do get a little slow but it has enough drama and angst; not too much but not too little. The characters are likable and the readers can’t help but to know more about them. It has a potential to be 5 stars and hope it will improve towards that future. <<less

I highly recommend this.

We're treated to super high quality translations, illustrations, huge chapters to binge read and an absolutely amazing story. Seriously, this is about as high quality as translations come.

Letty really is a great protagonist. Even a shojo skeptic would like her. She's not ditzy, wishy washy, boring, arrogant or over the top annoying sassy and she's still interesting and complex. She's cool, realistic and smart. She has strong powers but she's not OP. She's not an always perfect Mary Sue either. She IS somewhat proud or vain but... more>> it doesn't affect her actions and for the most part it's justified. She's a great leader. She encounters interesting problems like discrimination as a woman, being looked upon on by the different aristocratic factions aligned with her half brothers and story doesn't throw problems that are easy for her to solve.

Our male lead is similar. He's kind of gruff but he's cute. The story isn't suuper romance-y, but it's there. It hasn't happened yet though.

Each and every one of the side characters are interesting too.

As for handsome menfolk I like Craig, Letty's second knight.

I'm not going to spoil anything about the story because each and every little part of these are worth reading on your own. <<less

After only one chapter, I just had to point this out:

Spoiler

You bastard with an awkward name, this girl is 40 ranks above you and the next queen to boot. She has no need to be "cute" in front of you. How can anyone feel the right to dismiss someone just because they don't act in accordance with their appearance?

[collapse]

So obviously, I'm hoping she throws him in a dungeon somewhere along the way.

The translation is done by AquaScans, which is pretty experienced and has translated a lot of manga. So no need to worry about the translation quality here. When you see the word chapter here, refer to published novel chapter length, not web novel length. So be prepared for a long read. The story itself revolve around Leticia, the newly appointed crown princess. While she is given the right to the throne, she holds no power in the kingdom at all, as her two elder brother already taken most of power... more>> house as supporters. Left with no supporter of her own, she embark on her journey to find trusted aide. While it might sound as if the main focus of this story would be around gathering supporter, and in a way it is, it wasn't the main conflict in this novel. Leticia, for one, have the ability to enter "Knight King's Space": a space where the reincarnations from the first king could gather, including the king that reign after Leticia's governance. Knowing that she will become the queen, some Leticia's worries came from the existence of some cursed object and recruiting her 12 knight. The character were all nice, and well defined, although there are several cliche (My favorite is Craig). Worth the time spend reading it. <<less

This is a hidden gem!

Don't walk away just because the cover looks like a typical shoujo reverse harem. Hell no, the story is much deeper with politics and economy and fantasy involve. Romance is slow but steady. And the translation is just beautiful.

The author has done a great job in character development. Let say we have 1 princess and a bunch of knights and lots of royal people but each one of them is so well-written. Even a small side-character has moments to shine. Leti is no god, everyone has... more>> flaws, but they mature over time. What I really love about this novel is the family relationship. It's great to see this "royal sibling rivalry" in many perspectives and how they all tried to protect their family bond in their own way. To those who are craving romance, here are spoilers

Spoiler

End of vol 4: Duke developed feeling for Leti
End of vol 7: Duke accidentally revealed his heart
Vol 13: Leti realized she could no longer deny or hide her feeling for Duke
Vol 14: Leti's birthday party. By that I mean they had their first date organized by other knights.
End of vol 17: you can see for yourself

These are milestones but there are so much more fluffy moments in between. Stay still! Translation might be slow but trust me, it's worth the wait. <<less

If Machiavelli wrote a shojou fantasy series about a royal family, this would be the result--excellent and not at all what you think it is. It's difficult to say much more without spoiling it, since the plot is so tightly woven into the character development, so I'll just say that it's both more mature in it's writing style than most shojou, and an interesting character study of people walking a tightrope between loving their family and knowing that to do so could mean their deaths.

Interesting (and not repetitive or commonly found) setting? Check.

Heroine that is not wishy-washy or watered down, characters that aren't illogical at every turn for the sake of plot progression? Check check CHECK.

... more>> The slightest bit of romance that makes you go hmm and feel a little bit ticklish inside leaving you wishing there was more? OH MAn is that a check. XD

Beautiful, spot-on translations? Check.

I could look at this over this story for a week trying to look for reasons not to read this and I would still recommend it to everyone. Beautiful. Amazing. Wonderful. Read it. It's GOOD. <<less

I just found my haven. Let me just say that THE MANGA DOESN'T DO JUSTICE TO THIS MASTERPIECE. This book is so well written and translated (with the proper context and only some typo errors, which I applaud very much compared to other translators. Not hating on them btw. I'm just glad that this book found their way to great and capable translators)

The details of the characters, politics, personal relationships, magic and everything were all so intricate that I really have nothing to complain about. Maybe except for having... more>> more chapters cause I'm about to start Vol5 and there is only until Vol6ch1 currently. I'm terrified I won't have more to read.

I am also melting and suffering from the slow burn romance and I find myself being a masochist because I Luv IT.

Oh my god. This book is a gift. Please continue translating it. Or maybe someone could send me the links for the raws and I'll try to study Japanese just to read this.

PS

I only now created my account (despite using this site as a reference many times before) to plead to the translators to continue translating and encourage others to read this book to maybe encourage the author and translators for more. I really can't get enough of Leticia and everyone. I mean, she's just perfect. If she wasn't the way she was, this would have been a josei and not just shoujo because there would have been an bloody civil war and siblings, friends and everyone would be out killing each other and there would be no peace on her reign. I really really envy those who has access and the capability to read this. ? <<less

I don't think I have other words to say beside praises for this novel. The truth is, I never intended to read novels that had been adapted to manga, because I prefer mangas as they are more lively and easier to imagine, moreover in some cases the mangas desmontrate the story better. But both Common Senses of A Duke's Daughter and Okobore Hime To Entaku no Kishi novels have proved otherwise, as they are more detailed and, in no way, pale in comparison with their manga adaptations. What's more this... more>> novel might as well be better that its manga. It provides you with such detailed descriptions and inner thoughts of characters, which helps you understand the story more. Truly superb writing. And Aqua Scans' translations are just as great. It's not like the manga itself is bad, but if you are in love with the story, you really should read the novel. The manga tends to skip and alter the order of the events to its convenience, you see. I look forward to reading the complete novel. <<less

I really like this novel. The MC Leticia is a princess who is to become the next queen, chosen over her 2 elder brothers. She knew this would happen eventually, and is now trying to gather trustworthy knights to join her knights of the round table.

Leticia is strong-willed and knows what she wants and gets it though her own means. Her character reminds me a lot of Iris from Common Sense of a Duke's daughter, and because that is one of my favorite novels that I first read, I really... more>> like this series as well.

I believe is it worth reading and I personally think that it's better than the manga version as well. <<less

The story revolves around the main protagonist Leticia who happens to inherit the leftover crown from her two brothers and is the reincarnation of the knight king thus possessing 12 swords with supernatural powers within her. The general story plot, character development, writing and art is good. It also gives immersion and rather original ideas which isn't too forced. So I recommend Okoborehime to Entaku no Kishi strongly.

I really reccomend this story. It's not your typical shoujo novel. The female lead is smart and strong but not OP. It has political aspects as well. I also love the fact that the chapters are so long so even though there are quite a decent amount of chapters, don't underestimate how long it is. I also love the quality of the translations. Thank you for the hard work!

Tho there's about 4-5 chapters per volume, each chapter is lengthy. It is about 90+ pages in a pdf per chapter. And YEAH, that's awesome and I like it.

The story is REALLY GOOD. We will journey with the protagonist of how she, (*epic music plays) the dubbed "leftover princess" becomes the "the queen who got everything she wanted". This is more of an adventure as we see the process of how she will get the full acceptance of her father [the king], her knights, her brothers, the nobles, other kingdoms, and etc... as she resolves various problems and grow as a better leader on her way to the throne.

I had been a fan of this and been waiting for years now. And it's okay, because it is worth it. Yup, it is THAT GOOD.

I love this light novel. The translations are amazing. They are a bit "slow" but it's because the original chapters are very long and the translator take time to offer us a high quality translation. Out of all light novels I've read, this one is the one with the best translation.

Now, for the story itself, it's my favorite light novel ever. The main character, Leaticia, is superb : she is perfectly balanced to be loved. Strong, determined, proud, logic but not arrogant or heartless. She is smart and knows how... more>> to deal with the problems she faces without being OP. She is the best.

I really love the political aspect of the story within the kingdom and with neighboring countries. The little supernatural adds some flavor to it and makes this light novel enjoyable to read. As for the side characters, they are all really interesting and are their own characters, they are not here to just serve a purpose, they exist. Be it the brothers or the knights or politics from other countries, they all have a background, a story, a personality, a goal... They are very well written and likable. It's also refreshing to have a bit of romance. Usually, romance is the main plot in light novels or inexistant. In here, it's slightly there but not dominant so you can squeal over cute scenes :)

I highly recommend this light novel ! Story, background, characters, translations... What more do you need? <<less
