At the age of 18, everyone is given a skill. The son of the Sword Saint – Arios Macba was expected to be given the strongest skill. However, the skill given to him was “Cheat Code Manipulation”, which was thought to be a miss skill. On the other hand, an orphaned child who was present at the scene developed the skill of the “Silver Sword Saint”, and Arios’ father tried to take him in. In fact, even when Arios activated his skill, it could only increase his attack power. Because of this, he is banished from his family home… but with each battle, he learns too many powers one after the other, and he literally learns to use all kinds of cheats. What’s more, he has become friends with the Second Princess…?

This one mainly suffers from lack of originality. There must be at least a hundred novels with a similar premise currently being serialized on the same website, with the only real difference being the cheat skill itself. In this case, the cheat skill lets him use a variety of abilities so it's even harder to distinguish from the rest.

  • Protagonist is banished from his home/adventuring party because "he's useless" but in reality he's OP and realizes it or at least reveals it to the reader within a few chapters of the banishment. Then, along with a beautiful girl or a group of beautiful girls he meets around the same time, he becomes rich and famous while the group/family he was exiled from self-destructs without him. BTW usually the family banishes protagonist-kun without even testing out his ability, or the adventuring party is somehow A-rank or S-rank without noticing that they were relying on him.
This story is just OK. Good enough to read if you have nothing else to do, but there are a number of novels that do it better. At least I'm willing to see how it develops. We might need a subgenre tag for "exiled protagonist" if enough of these are translated...

So everyone gets a skill at 18, but apparently they are apparently very "conservative" and "strict" in how they value the skills (at least in the city the MC's "family" lives in) and seem to treat anything not known as tr*sh.

The MC gets a skill that is not fully explained from its title or initial ability, I think other skills might not grow, but his does and gains new abilities as it grows. Because the "father" does not see its value (all he has at the start is a strength... more>> buff, which considering the legends of Hercules is not a small ability the first time he uses it against someone it was not a small or easily shrugged off boost, but the father only cares about sword related or other known strong skills) so when the next person, an orphan, is granted a sword skill superior to the fathers he basically disowns his son and adopts the orphan.

MC knowing that he will be mocked and bullied in town decided to leave, the skill granting was not private, and rumors spread fast about the son of a high status family being given an unknown and to them useless skill, along the way he runs into the 2nd princess, who unlike the series description is pretty much already his friend, as she has left home to travel with him... Ya she pretty much chose the MC over the castle and its luxury form the start. He is treating it as acting as her escort until she decided to go back which is in a way smart since if he tried anything and the royals came after her, they might just kill him unless he has proven his worth which is an uphill battle.

I hate societies like this in these series, if it is unknown you need to actually test it, not just go useless right away. I understand the desire to make an outsider/underappreciated MC but this part just feels like lazy writing to me, though in this case not enough to destroy the series, more a minor irritation. I know sometimes there is a reason justifying the s*upidity that is revealed later, but stagnation feels lazy. Though there are some things that indicate it might not be universal in their world, the princess at least recognizes that it is a horrible perspective.

They end up deciding to travel to the home town of the princesses mother, and register as adventurers.

To become adventurers he has to pass a test, which is easy for the MC because he was raised to be a swordsman so is skilled there already (he effortlessly kills some lesser monsters after leaving the city but before meeting the princess, which caused his skill to develop its 2nd ability

and a very highly skilled and respected blacksmith. While he use to be in the capital that the MC and princess grew up in he left a while ago, he even mentions dissatisfaction with how the Mc's fathers views had changed over time.

Actually it feels like the entire village is much better people then the city the MC fled.

  • A female adventure who seems to be the princesses friend or acquaintance
  • One of his families Maids, who quit and left the city after he did since she also has an unknown skill (i did not catch her saying what it is yet, could have missed it though MTL and all) because of the abuse from MC's replacement, she ends up being captured by a cult / terrorist group and saved by the MC when he follows a lead from and incident (there are several incidents of monsters appearing where they should not, which no one knows the cult is behind, after becoming an adventurer the MC goes to one, notices someone in the distance and and ends up tracking them back to the cult's base where he finds her)

As to his family they start having problems quickly
Spoiler

The Orphan is very much a bully, and is abusive to the staff, which causes several to quit. The Princess seems to know something about his negative traits which is part of why she went after the MC.

Pops is basically doing nothing waiting for him to "grow up" or something like that...

When I looked at the most recent chapters, it seems that there was some form of duel between MC and the orphan replacement, which after the MC wins the father tries to take him back and the MC says no, and the the father has destroyed/ended their family, which has stood since their kingdom was founded.

[collapse]

There does seem to be some plot beyond the exile and road to acceptance/renown
Spoiler

it is initially revealed by the MC having flashbacks to scenes involving the first king and the founder of his bloodline, talking about not being able to reincarnate and needing to entrust things to future generations.

it seems like they wanted someone with an out of spec skill like the MC's to handle whatever the problem is, and while I do not know about the royals the MC's family has definitely forgot this. The MC even effectively gets a message from his ancestor saying to beat up his relatives if they mistreat him ;)

This novel is pretty bland bad. The MC has a very rigid mindset coming from years of being nothing but a sword fanatic. Due to this, it feels like he has no knowledge outside of swordsmanship and every time he gets a new skill he's painfully slow on the uptake as to what it is and how to use it.

I hope there will be some character growth because endless dense and self-pitying internal monologues are not for me, chief.

One really irritating example

Spoiler

The MC slaughters an orc that was going to wipe out an entire party of adventurers. He has the ability to see HP at this point, as well as the HP of all individual parts of the body. He can see its at full HP, he directly mentions it. Then he accidentally kills it using the magic that he already knows can kill an S-rank monster (after dominating it in battle with the sword of course). The author then proceeds to waste the latter half of one chapter, along with the first half of another chapter having the MC act like it was all a group effort and that he didn't really do anything at all. All the while, everyone around him has a brain and can see how powerful he is. Denseness of this level is only realistic if you're 5 years old.

[collapse]

Standard dense, brainless MC. I can only stand so many chapters of, "I'm so useless because of [Insert one event here]." Did his entire personality change when he didn't get his skill? Did he not study swordsmanship for the entirety of his 18 years of life? Honestly. Self-pity is fine for like one chapter. Not 40. A perfect example of the MC's thought process during any situation that requires thought beyond "Swing sword at that guy"

Spoiler

"This is bad. This is confusing. I don't know what's going on anymore. Let's sleep. In times like these where nothing makes sense, the best thing to really do is sleep." Keep in mind, nothing confusing in the slightest is going on here. We got a full chapter explanation and vision for a new skill, he tests the new skill, then goes braindead because he can't comprehend why he got such a powerful skill.

Sure it's not the most original premise, but that's the case for a lot of novels. Also hoping to see some character development for the MC who as of right now is a weenie with no confidence even though he's trained hard all his life. On the plus side, it's not as boring as many of the novels I've dropped after the first few chapters, and his OP skill seems like it has potential for creativity.

The TL also said this is their first translation and the quality is great. Keep... more>> up the good work! <<less

Overpowered, absolutely no backbone and ofc our most favorite MC thats as dense as a blackhole. Generic plot and the writing seems similar to a highschool boy’s. (Cant really blame him if he’s still in highschool though)

I just wish japanese writers would understand that characters lacking common sense wouldn’t hurt, but too much just results to absolute bullsh*t

Not recommended for most readers.
