Observation Record of a Self-proclaimed Villainess’ Fiance

Description

Lady Bertia, who’s become my fiancée, is a bit odd. On our first meeting, she proclaimed herself a villainess noble girl who’s been reincarnated and said that she’s working hard every day to become a splendid flower of evil that’s elegantly put in her place.

I don’t get it.

But she entertains me because I don’t understand.

That’s why I think I’ll observe her for a while.

This is a story of a crown prince who’s so talented and handsome that he’s grown bored of his easy-mode life. A story of this prince observing a self-proclaimed villainess noble girl (who seems perfect at first but is a bit off) who’s become his fiancée as she snatches flags and breaks them into pieces.

It's a great story. I love the characters so much, and I even like the antagonist. The plot is... I wouldn't say 'nothing new' (from the non-reincarnated ML's POV, the reincarnator actually has an impact on the world and not just the romance, other small bits) but it's nothing incredibly exciting, like Katahane no Riku. Even with all that, I would have rated the story 5/5.

However, the Elsyrtrans chapters are incredibly hard to get through. It feels like a grammar school kid's grammar, and it's incredibly annoying. The chapters are... more>> LONG, too, so it's a lot to suffer through.

TL;DR: 5/5 plot and characters, minus a star for the translating. <<less

Cute.
Male POV. (This one is rarely seen, especially in the field of romance)
Ah... a typical genius yet dense ML and an idiotic MC?
It's very fun to read though. If you want some increase in sugar level, then you can give this novel a try. I think it's very unlikely to be disappointed.

The characters are lovely, I love MC's deadpan voice narrating the events and FL's craziness. Just a sweet and adorable story, maybe with a pinch of darkness. Also the FL is indeed very simple and ditzy, but she does have a brain. The MC is just a genius.

I finished reading this long ago. But, as I really love the story, I still remember 80% of the story. I think this story can be consider as a light read. No worrisome conflict, but a bit in the end. I love how sly the female leads are.

Thank you translator!

This novel gives a sweet after taste feeling after you finished reading it. The author also included a few chapters at the start of the novel for the FL & ML to growing up from a children to adulthood together. Characteristics of the ML

Spoiler

The ML is an aloof, cool-headed and "I can do everything perfectly" character.

WOW MC is similar to Katarina but I actually can bear her dumbassery!

Spoiler

I actually pity OG Heroine and Pii, I'm glad that she's changing her ways and trying her best to save her friend. She was annoying but also she tried her best to obtain happiness... Unfortunately, by knowing what will happen in the future she destroyed it without realising.

This series MC is Bertia who takes the role of the villainess very seriously and in fact aspires to be one. She shares a common trait with other similar protagonists of being unable to be self-conscious at times and lacks understanding that perhaps the plot has deviated.

However, Bertia does take this to a whole new level but she is conflicted with the fact she is much too kind to fully live up to her Villainess dream.

This personality combined with the profound intelligence of her romantic interest, Prince Cecil, it does... more>> make for an interesting and amusing read.

I have also read the manga version which gave me a few laughs so I would reccomend giving that a go as well.

Bertia can be frustrating at times, especially in her behaviour but I think that's meant to be the irony - she very much behaves like the heorines in these Otome games do: without much regard for societal norms and is ridiculously innocent but for some reason here, she's latched onto the villainess role and readily embraced her "fate" simply because she wants everyone to be happy. I think that takes a unique kind of strength to be so brave in facing that headon. <<less

After reading all the story I must say it was really a nice novel.

There is a nice change of pace because we don't see the reincarnated villainess point of view, but the one of the main capture target: the genius and bored prince and how he find his humanity thanks Bertia... antics.. :)

True to his nickname (android) the first prince at the beginning of the story is someone that uncerstand what is the word need from him as a ruler of a nation and do it to the utmost... more>> efficiency, but lack real pleasure in doing so and is unable to understand human feeling. On the other side we see Bertia as a woman drived by her boiling and colourful emotions that is able, bit by bit, to move the prince heart first as an "intresting thing" to observe after as an irreplaceable life companion.

Spoiler

Since Bertia is reborn and already played the game, she know that all the endings of the game but one lead her beloved prince to ruin (or because he became a warmonger, or because he is tired of live as a doll without felling or because he became a shut-in) and try her utmost best to make the prince happy by making him and the heroine a pair (the only ending in the game in which the prince faund his humanity) even if this meas to sacrifice her life and her happiness without seeing that her beloved prince was already healed by her.

[collapse]

The selling point in this novel is, as I said before, exactly the prospective of narration: it isn't the reicarnated villainess to tell the story, but the prince, making this novel quite unique and enjoyable (and I must admit I wouldn't have read this novel if it was Bertia to speak because the story of this novel is something that is already seen in many, MAAAANY other stories with a reincarnated villainess (Bakarina in primis) so you won't find anithing exeptional under this point even if the narration is quite fluent).

If the story was better planned
Spoiler

if it was more long and didn't have some clichè like the heroine being another reincarnated individual and being completly tr*sh

[collapse]
I would have given the story a five star.

Since the novel is only 19 chapter all tanslated I won't spoil here the story, but i'll say it's a worthy read. <<less

Story has 101% of lovey dovey and decent (at the beginning) MC.

Frankly speaking if both reincarnated girls had at least a grain of brain I would give 5 stars. Problem is that story is impossible without 2 complete idi**s. Everybody actions looks so logical most of the time, but here we have 2 girls who should have lived 15-20 years at Earth before, which are on the level of 5 years kids through the whole story.

Great MC is the only thing that saves this story from 1 star

Really cute, light reading. Tbh, Bertia (FL) isn't the strong point of this novel, but it's prince Cecil instead. Sure I love how cute she is, she is just.. Painted as a VERY naive character. She is so kind (=naive, albeit also baka like bakarina) that if Cecil doesn't favor her, I think she won't survive in the end. Well that's my opinion of this novel's low.

But this novel surely is refreshing in the sea of reused otome villainess reincarnation tropes. It's fun to see what Cecil thinks about his... more>> fiance's antic :D <<less

This is honestly one of my favorite otome themed stories I've ever met. I think this was the second one I ever read after discovering the manga for it. My favorite part of it all is that we get to read the prince's point of view on how he views his fiance's antics.

Spoiler

I find it so hilarious that she's trying to be the villainess that pushes the crown prince toward heroine and try to make the prince hate her. But she does the opposite and attracts him more to her.

The translator also did a fantastic job at it.

Definitely recommend to those who love these reincarnated into another world and remembering it as an Otome game story. The main character is okay and a bit ditzy at times, but it makes me love her a bit more cause she's so honest and pure. The prince's POV is what I live for, to be honest. His reaction to her villainess efforts makes me laugh. It's definitely a quick read if you're into wuxia also. <<less

Your typical isekai story with an adorably dense, s*upid yet wholeheartedly good natured female MC (who attempts to fulfill her role as a villain and fails spectacularly) but the difference is, it's told in the POV of the male and it is so ridiculously wholesome that you can't read this without a smile on your face. The novel itself turned out to be surprisingly so diabetic and sweet, I think I need to see a dentist now for cavities or get a check for high blood sugar. Despite it being... more>> so short, there is so much growth in the main character (male MC). I like that that the author didn't simply sweep things under the rug and actually took the time to explain the male MC's reasoning behind his actions and thoughts. It makes his efforts feel not at all contrived or forced. The male MC is so cunning, smart and perceptive that he does not waste his time in useless misunderstandings or bulls**t drama. What you end up having is a super fluffy romance tale.

I recommend reading the translations from c1-4 by Kimamani first (the translation done by this group is high quality so you should read what this group has translated first)

then read 5-9 by Elysrtrans (caution: It's lower quality and does make understanding some of the points and ideas confusing but it's the only translation we have of the novel. However, I feel that due to the low quality of translation, some ideas and concepts are lost in translation)

then read 10+ by Convallaria's Library (high quality, huge improvement).

10/10 would recommend this for isekai lovers. I also recommend the manga version since the art is really lovely and does a good job portraying the expressions of the characters. <<less

This is a cute otome villainess story that follows many of the classic formulas except this story has some twist. The biggest twist is that it's told completely through the ML POV. You get his and only his sarcastic wit and charm and you gradually watch as he goes from seeing the heroine as a toy for entertainment to being his beloved (it's an adorable transaction). Meanwhile, the FL isn't like most other heroines who are reincarnated into an otome game for one instead of trying to stay away from... more>> the bad ending she charges (fumbles) headfirst into it. She wants the bad ending, she's striving towards it and villainy in her own adorably idiotic way. Because that what the FL is an adorable but complete idiot. Watching them grow up together and age was also one of the best parts for me. Yet I only gave it three stars because as cool as it is to read in the males POV and as adorable as FL is the book could get boring. And it lacks some serious excitement even the climax for me was lackluster and the inner dialog could drag the story on forever. <<less

I just binge read the chapters in the last... half hour of avoiding writing a paper, and I gotta say: the low reviews are right, the main female is a little grating (she's so... eager to please), there's the thrill of a different perspective and a female lead who is super into her role (#iwontbea3rdratevillainess!!1!) but that doesn't cover up for the fact that there is little character development and it's a bit forced. Still, it grows on you, and if you can ignore the need for editing are looking... more>> for a quick, mindless read to enjoy, look no further! The FL is no stressed out and plotting Eliza (Noble Girl Villainess is a slower, but more engaging read for sure) but her antics are funny and engaging enough for a quick read. MC is OP as well, but eh, it suits the quick story. <<less

Do you think this is just like the other villainess reincarnation stories where the villianess tries to prevent her destruction end but somehow attracts all the love interests hearts? Then be surprised because this is nothing like that!

Just like Mary from Albert Ke no Reijou wa Botsuraku wo go Shomou desu, what the villianess really aims for is getting her destruction end.

What makes this story particularity unique is how this story is actually being told from the point of view of her fiance, the prince. Although the villainess does interact... more>> with the other love interest, it isn't in the way you'd expect it to be. Come follow the prince as he amusingly watches his silly fiance unknowingly derails from her original path to destruction. <<less

I totally recommend this!!!

it's both cute and refreshing. Although it's the same old reincarnated as a villainess into an otome game but the plot and the narrating is very unique. In addition the character of both protagonists are not force as well.

in short, it's a very enjoyable novel.

Initially, I'm hesitant to give this novel a 4 star, but yeah, it went down to 3.

I would've given this novel 1 or 2 stars because, honestly, the translation is not that good. There are plenty of times where I got confused on what the hell is going on. Second, is that the Female Lead (Bertia) is starting to get annoying in the latter chapters. She's basically turning into a Mary Sue. She also continuously butts in other people's business.

It was ok at first, since it's kinda funny and all,... more>> but one incident crossed the line. It's about Bertia exposing her friend's crush to a boy, even if that friend of hers kept on trying to stop Bertia from exposing her said crush. I don't know about you, but that's a pretty Douche move, and very s*upid.

I guess it would've been ok if the translation was good, but yeah, the whole scene (and a lot of other scenes) were awkward. I sincerely hope the translator gets a good editor soon. <<less

I like this novel (same applies with the manga since I started from there and read through the story to see if there were any changes) and I like the main character as well as the self proclaimed villainess too. They are a cute couple and I wanted to see their story blossom. I like all of the ship dynamics of the friends of the villainess. It was enjoyable to read up until we got to the last part which soured the entire experience for me. There's a reason I... more>> give it a two star instead of a five or four.

Spoiler

This is mainly a problem with every isekai villainess otome novel with two reincarnators inside of the plot. Role reversal. The villainess becomes the heroine and the heroine becomes the villainess. It doesn't change the doom flags just that it switches the people from those positions and calls it a day. In most cases all of the heroines are genuinely bad people, and have a level of anti-awareness that makes me question whether they are real people or not, I have yet to see a heroine who is a good person and thinks there is something off with how things are going. With this story something similar happens with the heroine, but at the same time something different happens. She's not genuinely evil, she doesn't bully the villainess, she doesn't steal the capture targets from her (in fact when she sees she's failed with all of them she decides to find some of her own), she doesn't actively hinder the relationship with the main character. At most the villainess is the one who is creating this strain between herself and her lover. She is a mild annoyance. An inconvenient problem everyone can ignore. She is by all means a love rival who looks at the distance and gnaws at her handkerchief. This is why her arc is particularly frustrating. In most cases this is a HAH!YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE HEROINE! But that is not the case for this heroine, this feels very forced and could have been easily dealt with if both the heroine and the villainess sat down with the main character and talked things out. The heroine could have been friends with the villainess even, but that is how the game plot fixes itself, it puts the other in their role. Throughout the whole story the self proclaimed villainess was allowed to be s*upid because it was cute but as soon as the heroine starts doing dumb sh*t immediately she gets the whip near the end of her arc and has to pay the fate tax in order to achieve her happiness. She didn't get the privileges of knowing that her bird was a spirit, or the plague never happened, or the circumstances of the villainess have drastically changed because of her own actions. In fact she's never had a proper conversation with the villainess if at all. Neither is she ever mentioned in the sequel or anything like that (this was supposed to be the heroine of light, a very important figure in that world. So we just forget about her? Well I'll be you could have made an update after hyping her up for so long). And to say she became twisted by her own desires would also be a lie since she knew that everything will not end well for the people that she knew from the game, in fact both the heroine and the villainess knew what would happen if he didn't fall in love with the heroine (when this got explained by Bertia I wasn't impressed because this meant she could have said it this entire time and could have figured out the heroine may be reincarnated like her but she's s*upid right? She doesn't need to know, exactly, that's why I legitimately think the story got soured at the end. It doesn't take her kindness to heart and just says she's incapable of thought with her smart husband around). Which makes her ending all the more tragic and it is not satisfying when you know all of the isekai villainess light novels and manga have moronic one dimensional reincarnated heroines, by all means it is great and all she becomes a nun in a harsh environment and it is implied her light spirit will come back to life if she prays hard enough but genuinely speaking this novel really set me off to not want to touch another villainess book with two reincarnators in it. I guess I can say this novel broke the camel's back for me when it comes to this sort of stuff. I know a lot of people will say the heroine was annoying and deserved what was coming to her, and you would be right. I blame the author for writing a character who became hated as soon as she came into the story and was not as complex as the main character but just as equally dumb as the villainess and paying for it.

[collapse]

I am so harsh on this novel because I play otome games in my spare time and all of the characters are so well thought out and developed that it genuinely ticks me off how certain characters are handled but that's just me and its a pet peeve not everyone will mention. <<less
