The theme of the story is fine, it deals with depression, su*cide, dark themes and has a slightly mature taste, however it falls into the Korean martyrdom complex, where all the people who treated him like tr*sh before he su*cided, he forgives them and helps them, it leaves a bad taste when the people who were awful to him, he has no bad feelings for, the parents who abandoned him “i hated them now I I love them”, the former wife who treated him like tr*sh “let me help her”... more>> the sister in law who spat on him “I admired you” it feels like a person with no self respect going back to people who hurt him for some ounce of attention, the nature of his relationships is warped and is hard to digest, I had to stop reading at chapter 78 when the aforementioned sister in law who was absolutely horrid to him, he decided to comfort her by saying he admired her books, it left a bitter taste, like his feelings of his pre su*cide life were spit on and disregarded, when it comes to that mentality it just begs the question how little self respect, self love do you have about yourself. <<less

The writing style is exactly to my taste, with the way it switches between first person and third person; I really dig that. The translation is really good. It may not be the most poetic, but it has a feel-good quality to it, like when I read fairytales. It is simplistic, but engages the reader.

I said all that but to tell the truth... the main character is what totally grabs my attention. This doesn't mean that everything else is bad/worse. But I really love how insightful the main character... more>> is. The main character is someone I wish I could converse with in real life because of how much meaning he puts into his words when he speaks. His thoughts have a lot of depth, and I'm a sucker for introspective characters. That said, the story isn't uncomfortably deep. I'm able to unwind as I read this novel, almost like I'm having some intellectual gossip with a friend.

If anything I said spoke to you and you're scrolling through reviews, looking for whether you want to try this or not, definitely give it a try! (And don't cry if you get attached and realize that you're going to need to wait for more chapters because I know I will.) <<less

This is very good, first time I've seen a depiction of a genius be interesting and believable.

A lot of novels with cynical or depressive protagonists tend to lean too heavily on one side, it's either completely depressive without any hope and everyone/everything is out to f*ck over the MC or it's a predictable redemption novel where everyone is happy and nothing really happens. But this novel finds a good balance where the MC is indeed cynical but he still has hope, yet that hope is not cliche nor is it... more>> boring. Instead of making up with people from his past trauma like so many other novels he instead relied on the only consistency in his life which is writing.

Now there are some downsides to this novel, for one the translation can be a bit difficult to decipher at points. This has to do with the author sometimes using wuxia cultivation terminology for some points, and while I can understand why it was used it still made some parts harder to read. The second reason is the format of the novel, it's very difficult to tell who's POV I'm reading from at times and it's also difficult to tell if I'm reading a flashback or the present.

Despite the problems it's a very good novel, would reccomend. <<less

This novel is insanely good. Straight up one of the absolute best that I’ve read period.

The MC feels so human and the interactions with all of the characters read so real. The plot points up until now have been pretty creative and fresh. They’re all interesting.

Nowadays, this novel is pretty much the only one I religiously check updates for everyday because each chapter is just jam-packed with content. This is def not a novel where you can just skip 5 chapters because you already know what’s gonna happen.

I'm rooting for this novel. Thank you to the translator (s) for picking this up. I hope the author knows that they're, making something really good here. I hope the next time I review (when this is completed), there would be way more than 5 reviews bc this honestly deserves more people reading it.

its like great storyteller if there were actual character. It doesnt fall into the trope of making the MC a super genius, and points out his unfair advantage over other authors in that he went back in time, and also shows how being young can change his career.

It's a fun book.

The beginning was dark but in an enjoyable way.

There is comedy as well.

The drama is not too heavy thankfully but serves to push the story forward.

i didn't really expect to like this that much but it's pretty good. It has solid story with good main MC and side characters are not shabby either. It's not perfect but it's pretty good. I wish we had seen more of his previous life but it doesn't affect the story that much so it doesn't matter.

This novel is really good.

I thought it would be like other writing novel which focused on the stories being written, but this one is different.

It tackled a complete different angle focusing on the author, the so-called talent brought by time-travel/reincarnation, literary world issues etc.

If you have read The Great Storyteller or other novels here in NU, you will enjoy this.

The tags were misleading. I thought MC, a writer, would try acting too. But regardless, the story was pretty heavy and quiet interesting.

Spoiler

Honestly, I didn't really like the main character being so easily 'get along' with people who hurt him (like his mentor and his mentor's family).

[collapse]

It's like he has no self-respect (understandable actually, but still...) . I hope the main character can break free from his past and find new happiness (but not with his ex-girlfriend).

I'm dropping this for now and will pick it up when I feel like it. <<less

If you have a bleak and cynical sense of humor, you would enjoy this story a lot. The narrator has this really cold, matter of fact way of describing the dog-eat-dog brutality of the world thats both depressing and hilarious at the same time. And it reflects the MC's pov too.

It was surprisingly engaging, the characters are really compelling and it's enjoyable to read the little vignettes of the "novels" thats been seamlessly intertwined in each arc. Each one has a different genre so its quite cool to see a... more>> different kind of prose.

I'm really looking forward to more chapters, its wonderful to see the MC grow slowly and also impact others around him. <<less

the depiction of a genius that is believable? I dont think so. This is better written than most of the fare on novelupdates, but I wouldn't say its believable.

the plot developments and character relationships are very well written, but I have a problem with the basic premise of this novel. Its just that writing isnt so cheap as for little children with no knowledge about the world to be able to write a deep and hard hitting piece of fiction. There are little intricacies of the world you only learn... more>> about with time and age. It just isnt possible for a 10 year old child to be able to know such things. So I just dont think that anyone in any world is able to believe that a child can write about heavy topics such as depression, su*cide, mental illness and be able to write it in such a way that doesnt seem immature, let alone let it resonate with such a massive audience.

that said, I did enjoy reading this a while back when I binged 100 chapters of it. The character relationships are very sweet, and the battles and funny flowery writing and murim metaphors was enough to make me lose sleep over. <<less
