It’s the 3rd of March of the Immortal Martial era.

Under the Sect Leader’s unremitting efforts, the Qingyun Dao Sect finally welcomes its eighth disciple, Ye Ping.

In order to make Ye Ping stay and to earn his respect, everyone in the sect resorts to all sorts of tricks to deceive him.

They boast and pretend to be peerless Sword Dao experts, geniuses in cultivation, alchemy, refinement, divination, alchemy arrays, treasure appraising, and sons of destiny.

For the sake of maintaining the image of geniuses, they teach Ye Ping all sorts of nonsensical things.

They make Ye Ping try to gain an epiphany out of a random sword mark.

They take out a random big pot and make Ye Ping refine supreme-grade pills with it.

They take out a random copper coin and make Ye Ping deduce the ultimate heavenly secret.

They initially hope to just delay the time that Ye Ping discovers the truth so that he would stay in the sect for a while longer.

However, to their surprise, their new little Junior Brother… manages to learn everything.

A really bad novel, one of the greatest tr*sh novels out there. Why??

It started all good and existing, but at around chapter 200 it all goes downhill....

Spoiler

apparently the author suddenly decided that the people pretending to be powerhouse are in fact really powerhouse, which they weren't as it was proven again and again But Nooo just suddenly booom!!! They are really strong?!

And the author himself admitted that this novel is sh*t and a piece of garbage he ended it at around 288 chapters which I was thankful that at least he knows his place. And apparently he is writing another one I hope I don't ever see it.

if you are interested in this novel? I advise u not to. It was boring from the start. <<less

A comedic xuanhuan that based around bunch of misunderstanding and talented learner MC.

MC isekai into xuanhuan world and ended up in a 3rd rated poor sect with bunch of mediocre disciples. The sect master and brothers tried every way to keep MC from leaving sect for a year. Since they are mediocre, they couldn't teach him much. Hence, they started pretending to be expert and teach him rubbish exaggerated cultivations. However, MC ended up actualizing all their virtually impossible teaching, thinking that it is normal.

There's no romance (for a foreseeable... more>> future), since MC is all in for cultivation and tried to avoid women interaction as much as possible.

Spoiler

MC has two senior sisters. One is younger than him but got accepted before him and is relatively innocent about the scheme. She like to be nosy and gives hard time for senior brothers to coming up with covering lies.

The other one is big senior sister who is most mysterious and don't really care much about the scheme. She's actually the only one who knew how to teach cultivation and like to tease MC.

MC also met with unfavored princess of nation and befriended her. Although he thinks of her as a good friend, the eldest senior brother misunderstood his wording and thought he's trying to court her.

If you like novel like I'm Actually a Cultivation Bigshot, you might enjoy this as well. <<less

A humble, but accomplished scholar joins a poor sect. Having read some Xianxia novels in his past life, he misread the genre his story and assumes that he is a poorly talented MC who has found a profound hidden sect.

In truth, his sect is just poor, and need him to fill a spot for the purpose of bureaucracy. To keep him there for a bit, the sect acts profound, and uses some profoundly questionable teaching methods. Our main character, however, seems to be able to learn anything, including methods from... more>> fake cultivation manuals.

That's pretty much the story so far. The main character is really nice. The Sect is decently nice, despite being a bunch of scammers. The senior brothers have their own characters. For example, the Eldest Senior Brother is an expert at acting profound and showing off, but is a terrible cultivator.

Up to ch 90, there isn't really anything bad about the story. Unlike many misunderstanding stories, the plot and characters are not offensively s*upid. However, if you don't like the set up and the misunderstanding, or if you can't ignore the silliness of the premise, the story is not for you.

However, as soon as the MC leaves his sect, it becomes clear that the author spends a lot of effort on increasing his word count, and the author falls into the trap of using basic xianxia cliches. Sentences are repeated multiple times, and then repeated over and over throughout multiple chapters. Everything is explained in detail, multiple times, completely violating the principle of show, don't tell. Then, it is repeated again in the new few chapters. Whenever someone say something, the narration will repeat it, and explain it word for word.

Then, there are the cliche audience who has no purpose other than to do exposition, except the exposition is repeated by the narrative. The MC also becomes a rather cliche fake "lowkey" MC, where the author use any excuse to force him to show off. There are also many battles, most of which are boring and extremely prolonged. <<less

Started at 5 stars and ended at 1 star

Very, very funny at first, but the second half reminded me strongly of the second half of Library of Heaven's path, and thats not a good thing. If you liked Ye Ping, you'll be disappointed because he is basically a side character as they retcon nonsense for everyone else and very nearly abandon the original premise and charm of the story.

Then the pace really speeds up. Like really, really speeds up. I'm assuming this story must have gotten axed by the author... more>> because it wasn't well liked anymore? Because it reads like the author died and somebody picked it up to write near fanfiction levels of garbage to wrap up the story in 10 chapters, all the while retroactively ruining what I had previously liked about the story with its s*upid developments. This is a very good novel, a lot of comedy with it's fair share of badass moments, but a lot of plot armor for the MC.

The low point of the story really is just the MC, I personally do not like him at all, but all the other characters from the sect (his senior brothers and sisters, master and the elders) are such great characters that they carry the novel and make it great. Moments where the MC is solo without them aren't very good, but every moment they are... more>> together, and whenever the other characters are the focus not the MC, the story becomes incredible.

This is definitely worth a read, I only wouldn't recommend it for people who have to idolize an MC in order to read a novel.

Very excited for volume 4 whenever it releases. <<less

Rating: 7/10

This is a solid work until chapter around 150. It's more of a comedy based on how overpowered the MC is without him even realising.

The personality of the MC is very enjoyable - he is very humble and respectful to all, non violent and not shameless. Inhumaly talented and hard working of course. The side characters are also endearing. These make the novel quite unique worth readig imo.

Sadly, around chapter 150 the style changes and abruptly becomes the typical mainstream lazy xianxia garbage. First, the MC is... more>> nerfed a LOT.
Spoiler

Just an example - at Qi condesation after 5 cycles he can already kill a Foundation Establishment with a punch. He then complites 36 cycles and breakthroughs to Foundation establishment with more side power ups, but is still almost killed by merely a late Golden Core...

[collapse]

Secondly, the MC entire personality is replaced with that of a xianxia garbage MC. After that ridiculous encounter in the spoiler, he is said to realise how weak he is blah blah. Hard to explain but extremely disappointing and made me drop.

Yeah, so good things don't last forever. But I still like the first part of the novel. <<less

With some heavy editing, this could be a standout "Misunderstanding" novel. It's at times very funny, and the base genre of misunderstandings runs DEEP in this story.

But the main character becomes almost an extra in their own story by the end. MANY promising plot-points/side-characters/details are introduced only to later vanish unceremoniously, never to be properly concluded.

There are also pacing problems. One of the tournaments absolutely drags, and the story's conclusion is of course very rushed (as is tradition). There's nothing remotely close to an epilogue or clear pay-off. It just... more>> stops.

As has been pointed out, the translation is full of errors as well. It's understandable, and you get the gist, but try not to pay attention to the details because often they are lies. Genders, numbers, who is speaking, all the little things go wrong all the time.

But the story is short enough that if you can endure the pacing problems and mistakes, and not mind the little details, it's enjoyable enough.

It just could have been so much better with a little a lot of editing. <<less

I like it when it was focused on the main character but then it focuses so much on the elder brother that it's lost its charm and the MC doesn't even have meaning full character growth at all it's like he learning to have a dao heart but forget about it 5 chapters later and many interesting plots is forgotten like the tenth princess I thought maybe the MC will fight the Zia dynasty, unfortunately, I just drop this after its focus so much on the elder bother. For comedy... more>> it's quite good to read once in a while <<less

I went in expecting awesome comedy and gags galore, god was I disappointed.

This novel is by the same author as "I'm the MC, why do I suck at cultivation". Well, already there do we see a trend in what this author likes to write about. Basically gags based on misunderstandings, either being the worst or best. However, his other novel was even worse, it had a protagonist you just couldn't help but dislike that sucks at everything while complaining 24/7 while this novel has a protagonist that's kind of likable... more>> and is awesome at everything and doesn't complain about anything. The essence, however, is the same... and that's not a good thing. It's pretty much the protagonist being surrounded by people similar to the protagonist of the other novel, worthless wastes of space that seem impressive, only that they're not as exaggerated. That's especially the case for his eldest senior brother.

This had a lot of potential to be hilarious and I wish it was. Seeing all the reviews, I assumed it would be a mainly gag novel that was hilarious at least until the last part when things got rushed. I see the attempts at jokes everywhere just like this author's other novel, but similarly almost all of them fall flat. I just got a few, perhaps 3-5, big laughs out of this in 215 chapters. That's horrible, an action novel with only some slight comedic relief does way better than that and this is supposed to be pure comedy and nonsense, right?

The chapters get longer and longer and by chapter 215, they're really long. I feel like they're 2-3 times that of a normal novel in length, though at the start they were really short, so these 215 chapters feel more like 400-500 chapters.

Okay, enough about that, let's talk more about the novel itself. This is about ye ping, the awesome god blessed scholar/confucian that transmigrated. He's a little moronic, so excuse him for doing s*upid crap while being all happy go lucky and not suspecting anything off about his situation. That he's so ridiculously blessed and gets epiphanies/revelations/enlightenments 24/7 and learn things that no one has ever learned before from useless crap like fake manuals and high talk from his seniors makes that somewhat excusable though. He just believes he's not that skilled compared to his senior sect members.

No romance at all, so I guess that's good. The world is kinda weird but not that unusual, just made up of states, provinces or something and huge dynasties along with some other random powers. The protagonist's power level and progress is all over the place, it gets increasingly obvious later on. In one second, he can spam abilities, in the next he can't because he'll run out of energy, in one second he can easily crush people an entire realm above him, in the next he can at most only do the same despite powering up insanely, suddenly it seems it's not that easy to cross realms.

The pacing is as random, sometimes being insanely fast and jumping small or major realms and sometimes stagnating for very long amounts of time. The protagonist's character feels like it's not completely set, he changes too much when learning stuff, although that's intended as "character progression", it feels too sudden instead of gradual. He can read hundreds of books at the same time and memorize everything, reading 100, 000 books in 1 day and 800, 000 in 8, but it was never mentioned why he got such a perfect memory or how he could do this, a lot of things are left poorly or completely unexplained. The various abilities are also very random with little to no explanation except that "that's just how it is".

I can excuse almost everything, I never went into this looking for a sublime story of good pacing, no plotholes, good characterization and great world building. What I can't forgive is that the novel fails at the only thing it's supposed to be doing good, the comedy. It's sadly incredibly dull, as I said before, I can see all the attempts at gags but they're just so random, boring and lacking wit and proper energy/soul that I can't laugh, simply not funny, just like his other work. I also hate when tons of different hints, characters and plots are introduced only to disappear, I also hate when the protagonist goes against what any reader would want (like him going to the academies) and instead does boring stuff like going back to the sect to be taught more skills by being told to do something impossible with no meaning and then having epiphanies due to his own wild fantasy and skill.

Unlike this author's other novel, this is a bit better because the protagonist isn't insufferable, I'll reluctantly give it a 3/5 in consideration of the rating inflation going on in novelupdates. Sadly it suffers from mostly the same pitfalls with the author having a crappy sense of humor or simply no skill at all writing funny things, probably no great skill writing at all to be honest. Maybe he should re-think his career choices. Dropping it in just over 200 chapters isn't good at all, although better than his other novel that I dropped in 35. <<less

The issue with misunderstanding novels is that they are a one trick pony. Authors need to change the scenario and keep recycling people who misunderstand the situation. And that is fine. The issue is that after some chapters one of the characters starts spouting nonensense just to force the misunderstanding. That was fine too. Then the author turns around and starts to make these people really powerful. And that's where things go from no more misunderstanding to just plain s*upid.

Under normal circumstances, this novel would be deserving of a 2-3 star rating but it is probably one of the best novels that utilises the 'misunderstanding' trope to the max. The comedy and writing style is quite engaging and the side characters are just hilarious. While the translation is sloppy, plot is basic and plot holes abundant, the novel is still enjoyable for readers who look for a light-hearted novel to read. I would rate this novel 3.7/5.

Definitely one of, if not the best (mostly) comedy novels I've ever read.

Though the comedy itself is mostly based around misunderstandings, which is something people can tire of very quickly, it hasn't happened to me once during the near 300 chapters I've read due to the author occasionally changing things around and absolutely hilarious events hitting you on your blind spot once every 30 chapters or so.

If I have to name some problems with the novel, it would be:
1) The protagonist's senior brothers and siblings (with the exception of... more>> Su Changyu and Xu Luochen), and later on himself too, don't get anywhere near enough of the spotlight.

2) Most non-major characters are thrown into the tr*sh after their "arcs" end, and are basically never seen again.

3) In the last 30 chapters or so way too many things happened way too fast, and the novel was nearly flipped on it's head. It went uber megaserious all of a sudden. <<less

Its pretty good and the characters are fleshed out somewhat. The MC goes through some growth as well. I enjoyed it a lot more than most cultivation novels.
