I love it. First of all it is a chinese novel so expect tons of young and very arrogant "genius" and their overbearing family background, all the beauties for the MC, and several other common cultivation chinese novel tropes:

Spoiler
    • I read a comment about someone saying that everything the MC finds is basically useless for him and so he gives it all to his friends and that sometimes he focuses more on their growth than on his own, well tbh isnt that pretty much the charm of this novel? The fact that in mostly all the other novels the friends and lovers of the MC are very soon left in the dust by the mc's cultivation speed and talent, sometimes to never appear again. The MC makes decides to carry his friends to the peak very early in the novel and he will keep doing it until the very end, if someone doesn't like that then they should have stopped reading right at very moment he decided to make his dragonblood legion.
    • Someone said that the MC takes the most s*upid decisions sometimes and thats why he offends so many people. Once again the author stated very early in the novel that both the influence of the pill sovereign memories and the nine star hegemon body art makes it so that he has an inherent defiant nature. He won't take any offence without offending back, he won't hold himself back from killing a person that either tried to kill him or any of his friends, even if they failed on killing his friends, it doesnt matter if his enemy's background is god or the devil himself, he will slap them. Yes when the MC loses his sh*t he does a lot of stuff that is "dumb" or simply not what a smart person like him would think is the best course of action, but it is how its been since the very beginning of the novel and its how it will be til the very end.
    • His enemies always manage to escape the first time? Yeah they do, sometimes even the second time, and yeah it is repetitive af. But the reason why has been explained by the author. It is still repetitive tho.
    • The other repetitive thing I how MC ends up offending three of four different powers, they send their geniuses agaisnt him, the geniuses try to make him look like he is evil, and ends up with him reaching the peak (in terms of combat power) of his realm and fighting all the different powers geniuses at the same time where he finally manages to kill them. This basically repeats over and over again.
    • Some people say, the righteous path having a lot of infighting makes sense but how come the corrupt path are all unified even tho they basically count as evil. Well the whole corrupt path follow the Corrupt God, while the righteous path members dont have a single god to follow, they are so diverse in this sense, most dont even follow a god at all. Also the corrupt path members do kill each other but thats just the way they rise their elites, "survival of the fittest" so in due time they have their own trials where they can just kill each other openly. But they will never set a trap to a rival corrupt path rival by using righteous path members, because this would be an offence to their faith, the corrupt god.
    • Up to this chapter, besides the Nine star hegemon body art, he has only gotten one single unique inheritance for himself, which is the Dragon reverse scale. The split the heavens battle skill and the nirvana scripture dont count cuz he isnt the only person that knows how to use them. His tribulation lightning dragon is something he pretty much invented, this and his fire dragon might also count as unique but they are still not an inheritance but just the result of his own decisions.
    • All his enemies are hard to kill, and this has been explained as well. Everyone who can be considered a genius has a good deal of karmic luck, if you want to kill them you either have to have more karmic luck than them or use absolute power to ignore their karmic luck. Most of the time when MC fights some new arc genius, even when the MC is stronger, its not by much so it cant count as absolute power. The other factor is that he basically has Zero karmic luck. The heavens only want to erase his existence from the world and so they would never bless him with karmic luck so he always needs absolute power to beat his enemies, period.
    • It is funny. The MC is very good at faceslapping and not only when he insults his peers, its even better when he insults an old fogey thats normally treated as a senior by everyone. His slap skills are even higher than his pill dao. Most funny is how his followers learn his bad habits and start getting good at face slapping their enemies too, specially Guo Ran. He is addicted to posing.
    • Another repetitive thing is how even tho the MC has created miracle after miracle, his new enemies always think they are unrivalled under heavens and that they can beat the MC under three moves. Even when they are in the same cultivation realm. At least it creates a lot of opportunities to face slap and counter posing.
    • The MC didn't join any faction in the novel, instead he is slowly and secretly building his own faction that im sure will have a great impact later in the novel when the dark era starts again, like the devil descendants, the inmemorial path aborigins and the spirit race.
    • Some people say the story drags a lot, well before reading it just look at how many chapters are there, 3800+ and still ongoing, it is a very long novel and it will only get longer so if thats not your cup of tea, don't start reading.
    • Anyways the reason for the way the MC acts and thinks have been stated very early in the novel. "If you offend me I offend you, if you try to kill me then I will kill you, if you try to kill my friends then you will have an even worst death, if you support me a little you will benefit greatly". All of this with complete disregard of peoples backgrounds.

Bottom of the barrel generic novel.

The first book was bland but structured, very boring.

So it seems like the author saw the criticism and completely changed the Protagonists personality and the entire story as a result rather than starting a new novel, and it shows.

... more>> The plot basically sticks so strictly to a formula that an AI could write it after a bit of data input.

-MC arrives at a place

-Meets somebody who offends him or he offends, they are inherently stronger than him in some way.

-they fight and he loses or draws

-they fight again and its a draw

-there is some sort of power spike

-they fight and he wins

-In this process he offends 1 to 3 more people who are again inherently more powerful than him.

-again they fight twice usually with no results

-power spike happens again

-final arc battle usually some kind of large scale battle.

-End

And then the formula repeats itself like clock work.

Its amazing how strictly the author follows the formula, its 99%filler.

The grand story itself is very heavy on plotholes and retroactively changes every 500 chapters or so.

The Author messed up his own timeline making the history of the world self contradictory.

Wuxiaworlds novel line has been honestly getting worse and worse since their good novels have been finishing up in the past year or so.

Its new wave of obviously younger fans new to the genre cling to this like flies to dung because they do not know any better. Kind of how people used to do with Coiling Dragon. <<less

Those that say this is a hidden gem or a great story are just bored out of their minds. This novel has some cheeky one liners yes and has a few characters that are funny. But they are all too illogical. Plot is too repetitive. MC is a walking hypocrite. MC is always just busy flirting with women and his brothers are all too busy looking up to him instead of finding their own women. In a logical word MC would atleast tell his brothers go and find your own... more>> women, just to avoid the possibility of one his boys falling for his women. After all they are peerless beauties and they always hang around sweaty young hot blooded men, aka his soldier troops.

good thing about this novel is that his team gets stronger along with him. However they almost never take care of any problems. Its all about them taking care of little minions which dont pose a threat to the MC. Also he breaks his back for his team and gives them treasures upon treasures. But of course they dont suit him. Anyways this novel has some funny moments, but if you think about it, its glorified plot armor.

the plot armor is very thick. He can get away from any and every expert with no problems. And of course no real threat comes to get him even though his talent is easy to understand. <<less

As someone who is caught up with this novel, I can understand why most people are giving it a 1 out of 5 due to all the bullsh*t the MC has to go through due to his dumb decisions but if you can live with that and love a domineering MC then stick with this novel as it only gets better and a lot of the annoying sh*t you get at the beginning stages of the novel which is basically 2500 or so chapters disappear in the immortal arc since... more>> the whole Martial heaven continent is just an introduction to this novel. <<less

This is a paint-by-numbers xianxia story. It is so painfully generic that you could consider it to the be the Saturday morning cartoon of xianxia. Not that it doesn't have its good points - it's generally readable and funny. It's just... well, so incredibly generic. It can't be emphasized enough.

  • Weak, crippled MC discovers realm-shattering, heaven-defying cultivation technique, complete with its own ancestral memories? Check.
  • Missing parents with massive secret involving the MC? Check.
  • Young masters with the durability of c*ckroaches, the lives of a cat, more life-saving resources and luck than a billionaire and the situational awareness and emotional intelligence of toddlers? Check. Face slapping of said YMs? Check.
  • Antagonists who exhibit such blatant hypocrisy with the most straight of faces that you might die of shame reading it? Check. Antagonists so similar in how they conduct themselves across thousands of chapters that you could transplant them into any arc and nothing would change? Check.
  • Jade beauties throwing themselves at our MC and only our MC? Check.
  • Power creep so blatant it borders on parody? Check.
  • Blatant repeats of arcs and scenarios? Check.
It is what it is. I legitimately do recommend it in this sense - if you want to experience the core essences of generic xianxia without some of the darker elements, this is the story you want. It's the most vanilla xianxia ever.

You read the first 50 chapters and you're almost convinced this is a cliche trope novel. Surpringly though it develops a great lot afterwards. Even the writing seems to improve.

and there are a lot of commedy episodes that continue even to the latest chapter not just the beginning. The tr*sh talking stays fresh and new.

There are 2 things that really stand out in this novel compared to others:

    1. The friends of the MC are not left behind when he gets stronger and they also don't all just happend to get plot armor lucky. The MC actually invests valuable cultivation resources and raises them as an army, an asset and motivation to protect (not my style but admirable).
    1. STOICISM- never have I seen the stoic mindset explained and praised and followed like the MC and his friends do almost every other fight.

Please don't bother with most of these reviews. It really is a great read and I wish there was a downvote button for half of these s*upid comments that complain about this novel but generally just describe a typical Chinese novel. This is a great read. It's really satisfying and it's a pretty light read. It is a harem and they stay together (not something from Emperor's Domination where he goes to new places, picks up a woman, and travels with her for 50~ chapters, and then he goes to... more>> a new world/realm and we never hear from her again).

The MC's personality is fresh, and I really can't find many faults with this novel.

Please please please give this novel a try. I guarantee it's completely worth your time. <<less

OP MC + beautiful girls whom MC lusts after and who fall for MC for inane reasons + s*upid cliches + arrogant young masters + even more arrogant MC + figurative and literal face slapping + forceful writing = Hegemon Storyline

I know some others have given this average ratings, but this is the best to date Chinese fantasy novel I've read yet. It does everything right: big plot that spans from the MC's birth, the MC finds a unique way to increase in power, romance done right on a long term build up, monsters, ancient ruins, spiritual pets, and let's not forget the translation is very good.

I also like how the author paces the plot where the MC grows incrementally and battles his way to a higher stage, but doesn't... more>> jump from the Earth to something like the god plane all in one go. There's little info dumping and during action scenes, the author doesn't tangent off onto a dampening long expository of the Dao or some aspect of understanding a spiritual principle - he's much more direct in getting across the meaning of each chapter than other Chinese authors. If I had to point to one Chinese author that knows how to blend Chinese fantasy concepts with Western best writing practices it would be this guy. <<less

It starts out decently enough. But when he goes to a sect it starts out ok but then it kinda just drags on and on. I don't get the hate because as far as I can see this is about as good as wuxia/xianxia/cultivation novels get. The main character is a blend of the standard traits you see in these stories, but none of them are taken to an extreme that's irritating or played to death. He takes turns being a fearless battle maniac, a humorous trickster, and a warrior philosopher in a way that keeps things varied enough to stay interesting, the dramatic tension repeats itself but still changes in the setup and resolution... more>> enough to sustain it, and the world-building and overarching plot are well above average in terms of consistency, interest, and development. The characters, for as many of them as there are, are fun to read and enjoyable for the most part.

My two biggest complaints are that there's one instance of s*xual assault that only just barely didn't make me stop reading because the main character didn't commit it intentionally, and that there are a few instances where extremely important things happen in one sentence so suddenly that I don't even realize it until something references it later on and I go back to look again. Considering the length of the story so far and the usual poor quality of these stories, these are minor issues in the face of decent serial writing and good translation. If you like this kind of story at all, this is the one to read as far as I can tell. <<less

Good: Plot is engaging, although slow moving. Still anticipating the reveal about the Nine Star heir part. Literal face slapping.

Bad: Repetitious. At least 3 fights per villain before being killed off. There will always be villains just above his power level that is hidden somewhere and will wait till he's near or reaches the top of the current power level before being revealed and surprisingly it'll turn out to be not that much of a secret since everybody else (except MC) knows about it. The fact that this will span to 7000 chapters or at least 6000 is very sad

Also I wrote this with like half a brain cell. I feel like the positive reviews haven't seen past 3000 chapters but o boy does it get worse.

What a failure the first and second arc is the best arcs this novel ever had and is gonna have, the harem spirals into corny unreasonable remarks that ruin the mood.

... more>> The author tried so hard to be different yet he basically bulldozed every cliche there is.

I find it astonishing how horrible the romance here is I mean at some point I started hopping the MC would die or fake his death so all his "loved ones" would feel sad and kill themselves or maybe some character development punched into them I mean cmon.

The author then decides to push down any hope of making a comeback by adding another unreasonable anger issue person into his harem. Also the world building here is realm buff, move realm/place realm buff, realm buff, realm buff, upper realm buff repeat and also the characters u meet r basically copy paste of past characters arrogant young master and somehow they just get harder to kill.

Half the chapter in this is filler with really annoying mood killers I really would've loved this alot more if half the plot was not about realms and really annoying women that "care" for MC most love interest have mental problems and the normal love interest that seem okay get drowned out or turned into a side chick for the annoying FMC

*cough* Choa Yao or first arc girl *cough*

I recommend turning off any thoughts on having a decent plot, characters, smart MC, good supporting characters, world building, romance or anything other than pointless fights and MC being a hypocrite.

Author is milking I mean milking MC for his harem and their v**ginity also fyi his s*upid army slows down his cultivation by 100x so moments where he gets saved by his army he could've done himself with the 100x faster cultivation and extra strength basically dead weight and buff stealing cannon folder.

Spoiler

Also I mentioned this before but by no character development for good characters I mean it you get harem members tryna chop MCs pen*s off for no reason and mentality ill wives that rap- I mean assault MC yet MC still loves them... literally tried to kill MC multiple times his second wife tried charming MC and forcing him to join her. A cannon filler willow a 2 in 1 but ruins the other cuz of how much pride and attitude the godam tree has metal girl with anger issues and is a feminist and still is cus the 0 character development.

Anyways MC and the author is ret*rded sums up what half of what up there says enjoy your read. Down be r some check points

it starts going down hill around chapter 500 or was it 300 maybe even 100 it was when the tang waner girl is introduced or when the split up with the first girl in first arc happens.

Gonna be honest, this is hard to keep reading. For the first part, it was fine. But then he joined the sect.

Without getting into specifics, this is the god dang s*upidest sect to ever walk the surface of any world in any novel. They keep abusing the MC, and yet the author is clearly trying to make the audience feel like this is somehow "for the greater good". Getting into vague specifics:

Spoiler

The MC beats the hardest challenge to enter and gets and outer disciple slot because he didn't complete the literal word of the challenge, despite achieving something none of the other disciples could possibly done. Why was the challenge so hard? Because the morons in the sect are so dumb they somehow missed a clerical error for friggen 500 years! And then it just keeps getting s*upider from there. One of the elders try to sabotage him, and the sect master is like "yeah this elder is corrupt and we should get rid of him, but it might promote his growth". Then that same elder causes another trouble and they friggen exile him, despite knowing that elder was clearly in the wrong, and literally half their core disciples threatening to leave.

[collapse]

Frankly, almost every member of that sect deserves to die, especially the "benevolent" sect leader. When the demonic cultivators inevitably invade like they do in every chinese novel, I will be so god damn happy and I hope they get ens*aved and tortured.

I may update this when it gets less grating to read. But god this sect is awful. <<less

I got tired just remembering this novel, maybe someday I'll come back to complete this review.

Anyway, although I criticize so much, this is a good novel, but it has become so repetitive, that its good points have become annoying and boring, that's why it's not worth reading.

...

... more>> Long review short: Not worth reading.

I read past 3800 chapters and I can say with absolute certainty that most will reach the same conclusion.

This is a very generic novel that would be good to pass the time if you didn't get annoyed reading it.

It may look good at first, but it becomes so repetitive that you end up disliking its good points.

Beginning: Ha! Funny, the MC slapped someone again. Ha Ha!

After a while: Hum... So he slapped someone again. Whatever.

.

Beginning: Wow! So the MC has an army now. Cool!

After a while: Great, one more to drag the MC down.

.

Beginning: Damn! His enemy has escaped. This is going to be a problem.

After a while: Good lord!!!! Another enemy who escaped for the fifth time.

.

Beginning: "In front of absolute power, any scheme is worthless". Oh! So the MC is smart, but he prefers to face enemies directly instead of scheming. This is interesting!

After a while: Really?! That excuse again?! Is there any enemy that can make a good plan ?! Are they all brain death by any chance?!

.

Some details about the novel:

    • The author has no guts to do something drastic: Like a character close to the MC and that follows him dying for example.
    • Even his army has Leonidas plot armor. Like, they can face 3, 000 x 3, 000, 000 that no one dies.
    • Fights and wars are interesting in the beginning, but they end up repeating the same pattern again and again, that they end up becoming boring.
.

    • It's a harem, so it goes with your own personal taste to judge it, but the romance is pretty dumb.
    • The romance, and the whole novel to tell the truth, seems to have been written by a pre-teen.
    • Every girl, except one of them I think, falls in love with the MC for whatever reason.
    • Every girl in the MC harem cries for whatever reason when she sees him.
    • And the idiot, for some reason he always repeats (With Kevin Hart fearful voice) "Oh my god! I owe them so much."
    • It is practically a children's romance kind of thing, and not a more adult romance you would expect.
.

    • Even the cultivation is repeated again and again. The levels may look different, but if you think about it, it looks like he's starting to cultivate over and over again.
    • The author has put different qualities into cultivation. But for me, this is just a cheap trick to recycle the cultivation levels and not let the MC get overpowered.
Spoiler

I think this is the order: Favored < Chosen < Celestial (From 1 to 9) < Empyriam

Then it all seems to be abandoned, and then comes the bloodline which seems to have levels too, for some reason

i paused at ch.2011 because im really annoyed with the MC, maybe someday I will continue to read it again.... maybe.

i rated it 2 star from 4 star (deducted 2 star) because:

  1. racist remark to korean/han people (nation as a whole) I know some chinese didn't like korean to the core and the author is one of them. it was like ALL (yes I repeat ALL from top to bottom, from goverment to civilian) korean are bad people, did author think china is saint? never rob other country land? lol
  2. the MC it self is annoying, sometime he act smart and some time he like a brain dead. choose one please. i'd rather see MC become killing devil who kill anyone didn't care anything than become smart person doing some strategy and suddenly become a brain dead by doing something s*upid. and I never seen other MC act as s*upid as long chen when they went to disguise

I'm going to give this novel five stars.... but with a few caveats.

This is one of if not my favorite Xianxia... but it is Xianxia which means it has all the problems of genera.

Even though the author does try his best to keep the readers interested with hints of the over-all plot basically the story is about the MC skipping from one country to another, one sect to another, and one world to another where he starts at the bottom, gets under estimated, and then fights until he'd the ruler... more>> of said country/sect/world.

Now, this is somewhat offset with good fight scenes, funny dialogue, and interesting side chars but still... You can only create so many sects and forces for the MC to stomp on before even the best author is gonna start running a bit thin on things. The fact this novel is still on-going at 4000+ chaps just makes me even more worried, but as of 1000ish chaps I'm still sticking 5 stars on it.

My 1 beef with the story is that the MC is fundamentally incapable of just letting anything go. Even when he's at a brand new sect and weaker than nearly everyone else there he can't keep his head down for the three hours it'll take him to become strong enough to fight the sect leader with his MC level powerups and plot armor. He just HAS to pick fights, slap arrogant cultivators, and generally piss off people he has no way of defeating. And because he's following the "Dao of the Undefeated" the author has to keep bailing him out of situations when he should obviously just be slapped to death.

With all that said... It's still my favorite Xianxia.. but if your someone who's easily aggravated by all the worst stereotypes of the genera than don't read this... You'll save yourself a lot of stress. <<less

Personally I don't like to read a webnovel with arrogant characters tag and especially when the whole world is filled with MC's enemies. This too made me give up many times.

However part of the reason I ended up continuing to read through is due to the excellent translation in WW and the other being I really out of any good ones to read :P

Compared to other brain dead and arrogant chinese cultivation novels, here the MC does have reason for doing what he does. It hasn't been completely explained why,... more>> but kudos to the author to at least acknowledge that going against any and everyone and killing people left and right isn't normal.

If you like Chinese novels where MC has some kind of OP treasure, you will like this one.

If you into novels where MC actually for real builds up and army and doesn't just do it for 1 or 2 arcs, then this one is definitely for you. <<less
