He was an extra when he reincarnated into the game.

It's your generic power fantasy mixed with a whole bunch of nonsensical misunderstandings, MC believes he's weak because the original character he reincarnated as was an "extra" (whatever this word means these days) and refuses to ge closer to women unless he's forced because he's under the delusion that if he smiles at their direction they will fall in love with him and in the future stab him for whatever reason.

Honestly that's all there is to it, the story feels shallow and so does the characters, I've just read for... more>> as long as I did because I genuinely needed something to spend time and that's the first novel I saw, but honestly I would've been better off just searching for something else. Some people said in comments that the MC gets better in the future but honestly if he didn't get better in the almost 100 chapters I read then I don't think I can be bothered to read until he does <<less

This is a pretty fun novel! The premise is similar to "My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending, " and the novel shows clear inspiration from the Japanese work at times, but it sets the MC with a loving, charismatic family instead of a corrupt one to expand the MC's options. It also tries various aspects of world building, character development, and romance, so all in all I'd say it's a pretty well fleshed out novel. The romance is nicely paced IMO, with the girls having some screen time... more>> and character development but with the novel mostly focusing on the main plot. I also personally enjoy the main character's humility - he's not an arrogant prick, and he actually cares for people without becoming overbearing. The translation quality also quickly gets better after ~40 characters, so I recommend sticking with it even if the first few chapters come off horribly.

One complaint about the website, though - it's terribly unfriendly to screen readers. They do the trick where they scramble all the HTML and edit the word order in JavaScript afterwards, so my screen reader app basically gave me an unintelligible mess. Just a heads up, in case you listen to your web novels instead of reading them visually.

Most of my complaints about the novel itself are based around the fact that the source game it claims to be based on seems absolutely horrible to play the more we learn about it. The best skills are locked behind tedious grinding, and there are so many random secrets in the game that you can only learn by clicking every block in a cave several times, sacrificing random items that you'd never think would relate to each other, or other horribly nonsensical behaviors. There's not even a lore reason for these issues - it sounds like the developers had too much budget and too much time, so instead of trying to flesh out a story and solid gameplay mechanics they just threw everything in unpolished. Of course, the author uses this to the utmost, and essentially they just throw in random mechanics whenever the currently established ones don't solve a problem. This runs counter to almost every RPG I've ever seen.

My other complaints are mostly just the traditional ones for a (especially Korean) shounen novel:

  • The MC gets overpowered without explanation and doesn't actually seem to be debuffed despite supposedly wearing powerful cursed debuff equipment
  • The MC and his friends have absolutely OP abilities that no one else can explain (mass manipulation to turn tiny rocks into giant meteors, hypnotic shield abilities that force people and monsters alike to ignore self-preservation and latch on the shield even if they're being attacked by other people or have means to heal themselves, blood sucking swords that allows people to kill >1000 monsters in <20 minutes as well as run as fast as horses, and just so many more). This also ties in with my above point, that the author kinda just throws in mechanics that look cool without caring about continuity.
  • In a world about overthrowing death flags, the death flag issue sure becomes moot quickly. Many situations arise where a death flag the MC totally couldn't control comes up, and the author just rushes over it, adds a new mechanic, and tries to end everything happily. It kinda cheapens the whole basis of the plot, though, when
Spoiler

the MC saves his deathly sick sister by having her crush slimes to raise her existence level (she recovers after 1 slime, whereas it took him a few thousand to experience any effect?), or having the MC's tutor recover from a 40-year fatal curse with no rhyme or reason (where it was treated as "haha, turns out the curse wasn't fatal after all lololol").

[collapse]

Despite my criticisms about the novel's logical consistency and flow above, I really do enjoy its plot, and I recommend giving it a go if you're interested in world-building type novels with a OP but still humble protagonist. <<less

it's not bad, at least it doesn't have a game system till I have read.
Characters:
Spoiler

MC: he is a handsome... male? he atracts females only by breathing, he knows a lot of the world and recruit people to help him with things he doesn't know.

Shine: Black skinned and Haired boy, he says he is absolutely loyal to MC, but sometimes he doesn't act like that... like there's this thing about Overlord, they all know Momonga is very powerful so they don't try to overstep their limits... this is the same thing but they still does overstep their limits... for some reason...

Belois: Black haired and red eyed girl, she kinda is in love with him? dunno she in the original plot would have a route of love with MC she's overprotective for some reason...

overall all characters has a personality but they always changes their personality and the way they act depending of the what is happening... or they end up not even doing anything or appearing... it makes you think they don't have a fixed personality.

[collapse]

Extra points:
Spoiler

Sometimes MC doesn't know what to do but not long after like some plot lines later a character appear and says what he needs to do, I could say a lot of good and bad things about that but to save words I won't say anything, it works.
Sometimes some characters appear just for some lines and never appear anymore... dunno why, I don't care either.

the world is well built, but still there's some game mechanics here and there... which could have better answers as to why these things are the way they are... but they still gave a answer for that... they don't work very well but still does.

Story is okay but the MC always thinks he is weak when it's obvious that he his strong. It's not even funny anymore and just bad writing.

I'll just leave my short thoughts.

PROs: ML doesn't get mind trapped, unlike other MLs/FLs in similar stories of "ML/FL being reincarnated into an otome world or similar setting". He is self-conscious about his bad ending at the beginning, yes, but he later shows the will to live an enjoyable life without being pressured by them. He has strong will in that regard. The ML doesn't consciously make his choices in life while constantly thinking about bad scenarios of the world all the time. He is just a man that... more>> is just trying to enjoy his new reincarnated life.

CONs: Like what other reviews have said, the pacing of this novel is slow. I have read Kumo Desu-ka, and due to it I have come to hate dungeon arcs that span over 100 chapters, much less over 10. Or focusing on any dungeon arc in general for over 5+ chapters. While the POVs of the new characters is nice - PLEASE, JUST GET TO EVAN'S POV ALREADY! My max for them is 5 chapters, any more than that and I will start to care less about any side characters what so ever. At times I just wish the novel would focus more on the world events as opposed to everyday life/training details.

Yeah, and that's about it. This novel is still currently in my favorites list, since the story does progress a lot. Translations are consistent and good, updates fairly regularly. <<less

I see a few other people are at a similar chapter and have the same complaint as me: The "romance" in this novel is really bad. MC says that he doesn't want to be killed by jealous women so he will not have any relationships with them. It turns out that he just meant he'd maintain that vague relationship jp harem protagonists keep with all the women interested in him. He is very talkative about why being with the women who are after him is a bad thing, but he... more>> never does anything about it other than complain, and no one ever listens to his complaints anyways.

It is very annoying, and it also degrades the story overall. The plot is about a side character in a story taking his fate into his own hands because he was destined to die in the original plot. It removes any sense of agency from the main character when he repeatedly says he doesn't like something, is forced into having that thing, and then just accepts it. Having the MC be a doll without a will that women use to m*sturbate is not interesting to read about, makes the women less likable, and subverts the main theme that the author set.

I dropped this author's other work A VIP as soon as you login for similar reasons.
Spoiler

The main character in that work was bullied for being weak and is only able to overcome it when people realize he is actually strong. Afterwards he notes to himself that he is neither wanting to or capable of being anything more than superficial friends with the people who did it. However, he doesn't have any negative reaction when women from the group cross the line he draws between them and even gets closer to them for it.

The romance factor in this really pisses me off. Everything else is great but whenever the MC deals with a girl he's just annoying. Every single time he immediately refuses saying he won't, yet after a bit of a push he just gives in. It's so frustrating. Just say you won't marry them to their faces.

Not the general Toika, I've read a lot of his novels, EER, I Reincarnated for nothing, A Vip as soon as you login, etc. This story has a lot of similarities, but also it's a lot different from them, For one Toika doesn't generally confirm the harem until the end of the novel it seems different for this one.

As with the others, I've reached my limit.

• MC's almost delirious insistence that he's weak annoyed me. I thought he'll stop blabbering about it this far in the story but nope, he didn't. Sure, it was fun at first and he has a valid reason to be so (he saw his character die hundreds of times in the game already, plus the unknown aspects of the world he's in atm and possible game sequels that he didn't know of), but seriously, he should stop it. Mentioning it here and there... more>> is enough. Too much of something isn't good.

• I picked this up for its genres and tags which heavily struck my tastes, like the fantasty harem. But what's with the FMCs here? They feel like as if the author threw them to the MC with just the basic template, i.e. Yandere maid/Aloof & Cold 1st FMC/ Idiotic & carefree princess with hidden talent/ Proud & Genius fiancée who found someone better than her and got interested/ and probably some more who I haven't met yet. They're actually all interesting, my problem here is that the author didn't develop their characters or atleast give them enough screen time for us to feel closeness to them after introducing and made them just hover around the MC with some crap excuses which didn't convinced.

• This probably took 40% of the reason why I'm dropping. The translation is almost MTL quality. Don't get me wrong, I'm super thankful that someone even translated this. But with the story I'm barely enduring to read, plus this, It totally made me drop it. Dunno if I'll pick it up again. <<less

I think the main motive of the story is not about letting protagonist live instead to let him know he is strong but why can't he understand it I don't get. I mean at first it was just a joke but now it's getting annoying.I think even author should be able to understand he's just pushing it

First novel I've read that pushes the 'game setting' so hard with the usage of bugs and how game characters and abilities would translate into the real world.

The MC is resurrected into a world based on game he played to death so he knows the ins and outs of this world. This is one of those op MC that just breeze though his enemies but which I don't really like but he just op by using the exploits that he knew in the game. Interesting and fun concept even if... more>> it sometime doesn't make sense. <<less

One of the novels I always try to refresh and see if it updated! Thanks for the TL team for the regular and multiple updates. It satisfy the f5 sect within me.

As for the novel, it's a classic OP MC, but the storyline is very engaging. This author haven't disappointed me yet. I would 5/5 recommend this anyone!

A mix between slice of life, management and action. It's a bit on the low side on action, but a very enjoyable read regardless. Highly recommend.

The story is great. Classic toika with his overpowered MC. The progression has been really good and I can't really fault it. I'm enjoying the story and am excited for the future chapters.

The translation team has changed multiple times and have suffered a few set backs and inconsistencies but they have defo improved and have been stable more recently. Hopefully the current team can see us through to the end!

This is a very good read. I find it very funny and enjoyable seeing how MC thinks he's very weak but actually strong because of his high opinions from previously playing Yoma great war 1-3

This is a fun novel to read. The MC is obviously getting OP but kind off refuse to see that (until later) considering that the Character itself has many but many ways of dying.

This is A Toika novel, so MC OP is something that was seeing coming, but the way it does is good. He doesn't get strong because he has the knowledge, but goes hard on himself in order to survive.

What I love the most, is his interactions with the rest of the character and how they develop.

It isn't the best novel but it's addicting and fun. Pretty good novel to immerse yourself into, so you might want to binge read this. That said, if you want something that's deep and meaningful, this is not it, this is like watching your usual superhero movies that will never win oscar.

The translation aren't as bad as what other people said as well, it's good enough to not feel like mtl cancer.

It starts good, but at some point it’s like all the heroins are becoming s*upid when they meet OP, plus really a 9 year old who develops businesses and breaks records..... come on I know it’s a fantasy but still its too much, he may as well made OP 1 year old who could talk and with superpowers
