I loved the idea of the plot but god reading this felt like a chore. I love angst but literally everything that came up only left me with a disgusting slimy feeling, esp MC’s interactions with that Feng guy, and tbh MC is pathetic and his woe is me personality just doesn’t click well with the tsundere ML. So so many problems and unnecessary misunderstandings that a simple convo could solve but MC’s just too chicken and self-sacrificing to be honest. Yeah I know he’s timid but he literally has... more>> no backbone to even stand up for his own relationship. At no point did I ever feel invested in their relationship, there was no feel good moments or anything, and it just felt like a chore forcing myself to keep going.
Spoiler

There was a part where ML even thought to himself that while he was distancing himself from his friends a little to help MC feel more secure in their relationship, MC couldn’t even acknowledge that ML wasn’t comfortable with him being with the Feng guy.

[collapse]
I skipped all the way to the ending to see if it was even worth continuing and honest to god :/ <<less

Truth be told, the only reason I finished this novel was because I had so many questions. Questions that remained unanswered until the end.

Spoiler

Like when the MC's mother changed her mind and told him to not do the bone marrow transplant. Obviously, someone had told her about the ML being rich, but who was it? The MC never told her or had anyone he spoke to so who was it that told his mother about the ML's background which made it so that she would refuse to let the MC do the transplant. It wasn't like it had happened in the last life.

Also, the MC's dad never showed up in the last life. At first, I thought it might have been because he found out the MC was gay since when he found out after the rebirth, he got angry and left. But in the end, he still came back to get in the middle of their relationship. In the last lifetime, more time had passed but the dad never showed up to do anything. The MC didn't even know who he was so why bother so much in this life.

And what exactly was the dad trying to accomplish. The MC had no interest in being his heir or taking over the dude's company and the dad knew that. But he was still always causing trouble and getting all smug about it. I'm utterly confused about what he was thinking.

Plus, the title is really misleading. Adding the title to the description, one would think that at some point, the MC would find out that the ML was in love with him in his last life, too. It was always a mutual relationship. I had kind of hoped the ML would also be reborn because of that, since he also must have died with regrets.

Another thing is that, the MC began dating the ML way too easily. There was none of his guilt from the last life getting in the way after the guy confessed. They hooked up so quickly again in the next life without any of the misunderstanding being cleared out that it was just, I have no words.

Welll....

I didn't hate it. It was a nice light read. And it started off great. But had to have some unecessary drama that I just can't love.

Spoiler

Ya know, the frustrating typical "ill mother who doesn't approve forces their children apart for years on end, causing so much suffering for both before maybe finally realising that it may not have been a good idea?" It seems even more unecessary when you consider that it didn't even happen that badly the first time, seems like the reincarnation just made the relationship go backwards again?

Actually, I wanna see more of their first life bc I daresay that story might be more promising than this one (or even roughly equal) because at least they were both kinda happy. At least in his first life, it was a 7 year misunderstanding bc the ML forgot to confess to the MC. In the second, they break up all because the MC couldn't just trust the ML and tell him the truth, lying to him instead. Ughhhh.

[collapse]

... Anyway, I just wish there was more to this, it kind of felt like there was no point to the MC's reincarnation at all. I think it would be more interesting to see more exploration of his past life and the ML's feelings in that life (bc we only got like 1 extra chapter about that), maybe a double reincarnation or something. But in the end, the reincarnation just adds more unecessary drama. In fact, I dont think the MC ever even told the ML about his reincarnation.

Also, I would like to see what would happen if the past ML and the current ML met/ merged / swapped places, I think that would have been a fun and interesting concept. <<less

OK so, they got together a bit too quickly for my liking, and I panicked when I saw how many chapters are there left and I'm just dreading the fact that it'll just get DRAGGED out. It's already like dramatic soap-opera tr*sh so i'd rather part with it in better terms than when I'm too late. I love my misunderstandings but moderation is KEY.

so yes, I dropped it. Oops.

I wouldn’t call this story tr*sh but I’m wondering why I’m still reading it when I’m so frustrated by it and the MC. This guy is a working adult and acts like a kid, was the rebirth part even necessary? I think I would’ve been less frustrated with some plot points if the MC had really been a teenager.

His ML bf has gotten into a fight with this guy twice cuz of jealousy and he still gives him his number?

Then he is apparently been with the ML for years but somehow doesn’t know him or his personality well at all.

Just the overall feel of it is annoying, but the fluff is super cute when it happens so I think I’m gonna finish it for that at least

[collapse]

Honestly, I’d give this story a 2 if only the translation wasn’t so well done. <<less

2, 5 stars.

I liked this story most of the time and I guess I had too high expectations for their second chance that I was very disappointed and angry by some turns in the plot during the second half of the story. The ending was so rushed that I felt like nothing was yet really resolved between MC and ML. Very lukewarm ending.

I read this novel after reading Sickly Tyrannical, if you've done reading the novel then you'll know this is extremely a breath of fresh air for me.

Fluffy and sweet sprinkled with little to none angst.. Yes, really minor angst. The rebirth played little part on the story, I believe it was totally scrap as the story progresses. Sometimes, I feel like the beginning was just a dream.

Anyway, if you want less drama then go for this one.

Super painful read! Really loved it, felt like my heart was being ripped apart sometimes. If it didn't have a happy ending I probably wouldn't have read it because it was so sad. Very good writing and translation, it's on the level that it could easily be sold in bookstores. I felt that it was a bit too short, especially after that ending. Overall, it was a very good reading experience, realistic, some fluff, some comedy, and I would definitely recommend if you like angst.

I read this again and I still like it quite a bit. I think the ending was a bit rushed and I would've liked to see more of the MC and ML's life together after their breakup. It feels somewhat sudden after the whole buildup of pining after one another and then getting together. The kid felt like a weird add-in too, and his mom showing up in the very last chapter threw me off. It would've been better if the author just never inserted her into the main couple's lives.

[collapse]

Definitely had me crying again, and ML's devotion towards MC has me on my knees. <<less

The novel itself was painful to read since it mostly revolved around angst but I must say that I did feel entertained at the fluffy parts the novel presented. The concept to the story itself is beautiful and heartbreaking. However...

The first half is basically the conflict in itself with misunderstandings happening everywhere. This was really annoying at first but it ended at some point. But, then, boom, hitting you in your face, more misunderstandings with MC's parents. I must say, MC's parents are the most irritating part of the story.... more>> So much so that I wish I could just give them a freaking therapy session I hate them so much.

Throughout the story, I just got so damn frustrated at how pitiful the MC is acting. If he truly loves the ML as he says that he does, then he should've been a truthful and considerate good person, discussing his problems with his lover instead of keeping him in the dark. This part of the novel made me take a break from it for a bit because I was just so done at this point.

If you do read this, brace yourself for a whole load of angst. <<less

This novel has almost everything that I like in a BL. Misunderstandings, rebirth, deciding not to love ML anymore BUT!! This novel failed to deliver. : (( Meh/Bad:

  • MC is supposedly an adult but seems to have regressed to a teen once again after rebirth, I didn't like his decisions/thinking esp since he's already reliving his life. This happens a lot in BL so that's sad. (I'm eyeing you Rebirth of the Wolfish Silkpants Bottom)
  • The diary thing was cute but other than that, the whole plot after rebirth isn't interesting at all
Good:

  • First few chapters, esp their past
I would've loved this more if they just stuck to the past instead and scratched the whole rebirth plot lol.

I like this is something new from the most used clichés relationship's dynamic. Like we always see a tsundere paired with a very clingy or strong-willed character. Or a girly weak-willed uke paired with a domineering seme. Now imagine if there were a tsundere and a weak-willed character paired together? That's exactly the premise, now add a transmigrated character and we got a story.

Giving this a 5 entirely because I rlly appreciate the translator.

Storywise, it's 3/5. I like how the plot was initiated. I'm not gonna lie I was rlly hooked with chap 1. Every chapter after that got me curious about what the next one will be and I rlly appreciate that feeling... That's until the plot gets repetitive and unoriginal. I got tired of it midway. It's prolly my fault since I've expected a lot from the first chap. It ended as if the first chap and the last was two... more>> entirely different plot line lol

Should have rated it 2/5 but the story was still great despite the plot regression. I'm not satisfied enough tho. All in all, I still recommend this. Just an advice to future readers: Don't expect much from the first chap. <<less

The prologue/first chapter is enough to make me want to read it or buy that chapter only.

The progress is fast too, not too complicated. The MC is abit depressing at first. Tho after a while, the development of the characters are questionable imo.

It's like they dont change from high school hormone brain to working adult thinking. Even when they're adult.

The 1st chapter where the originals are arguing is much ore intriguing to me. That chapter was the one made me to read this. But after chapter 50s, I dont feel... more>> to read it again. It's shoujo romance but with male on it. Very very..... plain reading.

I dont mind with how MC attitude that make misunderstanding occur all the time. And ML too fast in falling in love just because he read MC diary. (Also, we never know how'd he get it).

It's just........ repetitive without so much characters development.

Maybe if the author doesnt make MC to travel back, instead trying to do the best in orignal timeline, it'd garner much ore points to read. <<less

I've finally finished reading this novel! Let's start off with the cons first, since I remember those more clearly. First off, though the summary implies this is a "rebirth" story, it's really not. The rebirth is only used as a plot device to help Xia Yao get into the university he wanted. Secondly, the whole storyline is built on misunderstandings. A major flaw, considering how I could tell that the author wanted to do more with this story but just couldn't because of it. It's just not enjoyable and very... more>> frustrating to read. Then, we have the other conflicts which don't really get resolved.
Spoiler

We have Xia Yao's mother and father who don't support their relationship. The MC's mother does eventually apologize, but of course, it's after years have passed. It's the same basic conflict I've seen in other novels. Not that original. The time skip— It felt very lazy. Like something out of a cliché omegaverse. Oh, wow. MC has a child?? No way! Oh, but they still actually love each other, so they get together again. Great.

[collapse]
I wish that the rebirth was explored a bit more. The MC is just plopped into his second life after death, and his reaction was not what I expected. Why was he reincarnated? And why with his previous life's memories intact? You'd think that after living for so many years, the MC'd be more mature, but his character doesn't reflect that in the slightest. That discrepancy made a bit confused and vexed at the same time. The ML was the overbearing type. Easily angered, annoyed, possessive— He really reminded me of fanon Bakugo from MHA. He was like a tsundere. Not the cute kind, though. The ending of the story felt really rushed. Some extras about the previous life through Zhou Dou (the ML) 's POV might've upped my rating, but I couldn't stand the cheap angst. The positives? Maybe the fluff. They're mostly in an established relationship throughout the story. This story did have a lot going for it. It could be that the translation was part of the problem as it affected my reading experience. But I have to admit that I didn't like the story that much. The side couple wasn't that good either. We did see the ML's longing for the MC and how he always loved home and all that, but it didn't feel substantial. All of his advice and thoughts were conveyed to a pair of characters I didn't care about. 3/5 <<less

Like some of the reviews say, I really enjoyed the first 2/3rds of the story... like up until chapter 50ish. To be honest I feel like the author threw in some issues at the eleventh hour just to drag the story out. The last bit of the story felt kind dragged out and unnecessary and the ending felt somewhat abrupt even (I felt like there were some loose ends that needed to be tied up).

I was also kind of hoping that ... more>>

the ML would also remember their past lives just because I didn't like that the MC never realized the ML loved him in their first life despite their rocky start (at least that's what I'm inferring based off the way the author wrote their interactions

MC's father was completely random and unnecessary as well. Like where was this man in their first life? What changed in this one that he suddenly appears? And it felt like he was only introduced just to separate MC from ML and then once MC's mom approved of their relationship he was pointless? Like in the end what was the whole point of him and the step-mom?

Hmm honestly I wanted to read and prove the reviews wrong but really...I'm just really annoyed. The MC went back in time and still continued to be so NAIVE? The MC has no self respect or preservation... realllyyyyyy. The ML is a another stewpid gong. FR a blockhead. Aia these people like these two no hope haaaa- Anyways overall the story is very frustrating and time wasteful. Do not waste your time reading it.

Some people may be put out with the misunderstandings but as a person who doesn't like to suffer, I don't think the misunderstanding are that bad since it'll resolve soon, not fast, not slow but just right.

I feel good reading this novel, if a story makes me not want to put it down and eager to continue to read it, I will label it as a good read. You can relax reading this.

This novel is similar to a modern-day drama with all the misunderstandings and angst. It depicts relationships more realistically because the characters need to deal with the harsh (and current) realities of our society, i.e. Acceptance of their relationship. Great novel with memorable characters and some heartbreaking moments.

Angsty story based on the big misunderstanding that (title) ML did not like MC. I agree with the other reviews that after MC's rebirth, there were many situations where MC should have known something was going to happen but he did not. These situations should not have been changed due to his rebirth so it should still be something that he would know, so the context of his "rebirth" was not fully developed. Moreover, a bit part of the story was no longer relevant to the rebirth aspect due to... more>> a very big change, and so the "rebirth" really wasn't a very big part of the story. Other than that, MC is really just not confident in himself, plus his sense of duty to his mother made him make sad choices. Meanwhile, ML is honestly just emotionally constipated and unwilling/unable to express himself properly. Over 50% of the misunderstandings could be avoided if he had just told MC what he was feeling / why he was upset or angry. The ending of the story was also a little abrupt, as if the author just didn't want to write anymore so she just stopped at a somewhat happy-ish point. (Still a HE though). Overall, angsty meh story but still readable if you don't have anything better to read and just want some frustrating angst. <<less
