Rudy, who worked as a delivery person in space, got stranded due to an accident in the warp gate. He eventually stumbled upon a planet with an Earth-like environment but couldn’t return home. As he landed on the planet and started to explore, he discovered that it was a fantasy world where magic had evolved.

It doesn’t really matter what Rudy does or finds on this planet, as the characters, the author, and the readers can all enjoy a leisurely journey.

Marooned loner asocial space trucker meets anti-social misanthropic overpowered mage. Seems tad unambitious but story is fine. Mostly well executed for what it's aiming for. Goes for food focused slice of life, adds character quirk based humour. As sauce story hints violent and crapsack nature of the planet and don't pull punches when it comes to it.

It's like getting a good hamburger from your fastfood joint and you go "huh, this is surprisingly decent for what it is."

If you liked "Galactic Navy Officer Becomes an Adventurer" until the original author abandoned it and the manga writers introduced the "BESTEST EVAR, BETTER THAN THE MC" girlboss character from the deepest cultural dumpster fires of 2017, but thought it could do with a little more (light) comedic elements, then this is the webnovel for you.

Follows a similar premise to the aforementioned novel, but seems to be set in more of a "lighter and softer" version of the Warhammer 40k universe 20k years further into the future with space Elves... more>> (Eldar) and Space Goblin/Orcs and Space Dwarves and Space Beastmen and what-not rather than a straight-up crib of "Starship Troopers." Not that we really get to interact with any of the spaceborne versions of those races, but they serve as a bit of background info and flair.

So yeah, MC gets "isekai'd" to some Unknown Space with a Lost Planet stuck in Fantasy World setting, but with most of his assets intact, those assets being a 3km long transport ship filled with supplies and commodities meant for a far-off colony planet, which explains his almost infinite surplus of "modern" goods, drones, androids, machinery, and even planetary assault weapons.

That being said, contrary to the more "military" feel of "Galactic Navy Officer, " this is an approach from a more "civilian" POV where the MC readily embraces his new situation and decides to go native (yes, he feels bad that the supplies he was assigned to transport won't get to their destination, but it seems that the Imperium Empire will send a backup transport to the developing colony).

Better yet, it immediately cuts to the chase and explains that the current "natives" of Lost Planet are the descendants of the crews of various vessels that were caught in the same anomaly as the MC (perhaps by design) and crash-landed on the planet more than a millennium ago, but lost access to tech and knowledge thanks to several disasters over the centuries and gained "magic" due to the native viruses that infest the planet which accumulate the ambient "mana" radiation

which interacted with the Psionic abilities of the marooned Eldar/Elves to produce directed reality-altering phenomena.

From the get-go the author sets a much lighter tone than the heaviness of GNO and leans into comedy. ACTUAL comedy, not "Japanese Comedy" involving "karoshi" and "power reversal" and other perverse proclivities usually enjoyed by Nipponese Otaku while inappropriately touching themselves. In other words, just enough to elicit a few chuckles and maybe a hearty kek before moving on.

Yes, the author seems to be a Pro Wrestling fan of some sort, peppering in a few references to Attitude Era WWE or the MC giving himself a wrestler's name as an alias during a random encounter, but they're a light sprinkle and don't really interfere with the storytelling. Again, just for a couple of chuckles to people familiar with the subject, but not obtrusive for those with no point of reference.

tl;dr: "Galactic Navy Officer Becomes and Adventurer" without the "Adventurer" part and no overt romance (MC does encounter a female native who he saves, but they're more like BFF roommates and confidants rather than lovers, probably due to MC being a literal octogenarian despite his shota-like appearance

and having to use a libido-suppressor in his brain chip due to the unfortunate side-effect of him pitching a permanent tent in his trousers every time he uses "magic" due the hack/work-around/patch needed to bypass the firewall in the electronic parts of his brain that would normally interfere with "mana" and "magic." He does mention that there's an available update that would solve this problem, but he can't use it since his body is still in adolescence even though he's chronologically over 80 years old and he needs to wait until his body matures in another 20-30 years, leaving the possibility of relations at a later time, since his new native companion also underwent the same longevity treatments he did.

, leaning into light NON-Japanese "Comedy" despite what would otherwise be a very grim Fantasy setting. Good for a snack-read and palate-cleanser from heavier material.

Update: Story seems to be on hiatus, but unlike GNO, the author explains that this was caused by the sudden passing of their mother and needing time off to sort out the aftermath. Given that the original author of GNO never gave an explanation for the seeming abandonment of his story and we have only circumstantial evidence presented by the manga writers with no direct information by said original author as they hijack the narrative with hackneyed and tired 2017-era tropes, this is far more preferable of an explanation.

Further Update: Looks like author-san has resumed the story, after over a year and a half hiatus. Tone seems consistent, so hopefully this means that the time the author spent to recover was very effective.

We'll see if things continue in a positive manner or they go down the Jeph Loeb "DESTROY EVERYTHING NOW" route after his unfortunate loss.

Yet Another Update: According to the author, they were beset with numerous tragedies involving the loss of other relatives and friends in the intervening period which lead to the prolonged delay. The author has started another story as part of rehabilitation, but will sporadically update this one, tentatively stating that a regular schedule would resume in spring of 2025. Author-san seems to be in good spirits, presenting the latest updated chapter as a Christmas present of sorts to followers of the story. <<less

Slight spoiler of chapter 10, the only reason why I think everyone should read this story.

“Yeah, speaking of which, if you’re planning on leaving the forest and becoming an adventurer, even such small fry monsters can earn you money if you bring back specific body parts, ” Naomi explained.

“Adventurer?” Rudy asked.

“Yeah, adventurer, ” Naomi replied.

According to Naomi, there was a profession called adventurer in this world. The job description ranged from odd jobs from a town’s general store to escorting people on the road, hunting monsters attacking villages, collecting materials in dangerous places, and so on. It seemed to Rudy that it was a job similar to a self-employed mercenary.

Even though he wasn’t particularly short on money, why would anyone want to put themselves in danger? Rudy, who aimed for an easy life, had absolutely no interest in the profession of an adventurer.

“I’m not interested, ” Rudy replied.

“I see, ” Naomi shrugged her shoulders without saying anything else.

There, that should be enough to make you read this story. <<less
