My Second Life As A Secretary

He Zening had always felt that novels depicting the life of a Company President were good for passing time, but insulting to the IQ. Still, having read countless novels of this genre, never did she imagine that someday she would transmigrate into one of them. To make matters worse, the plots were so similar that she could not remember which novel it was. She was left with no choice but to assume the role of a secretary to the President.

The secretaries in novels ran errands for the President, assisted him in pursuing women, helped him keep the flames of love burning, and even took the blame for him if necessary. But a real-life secretary? They were blamed by those in power, sometimes hurt and reprimanded wrongly.

If it were not for the excellent pay and necessity, she would have already bolted out of the door. And like all curious bystanders, He Zening wanted to see the plot happen before her eyes; the President meeting the protagonist! A villain standing between the love of the leads! The side characters!

This is the second life of a level-headed, diligent secretary working hard to achieve a carefree life, whilst being dragged into the plot.

Quite good for a light read. The FL is quite capable, I like her professionalism. Even the other characters are quite fleshed out, the book heroine is not dumb and quite capable herself .
Spoiler

FLs boss is not the male lead. They have only a boss-subordinate relationship. He's the second male lead for the ori!heroine

Spoiler

initially I thought that the ML was the boss. Then I thought it was the coffee shop owner. But no, it was the CEO's special assistant -lu fang. He's introduced in chapter 18.

Woohoo, assistant x special assistant

I absolutely LOVE this novel!! Mtl'd the whole thing and I have zero regrets.

Spoiler

The MC transmigrates to another world and ends up realising that it is probably a novel but she can't figure out which. She guesses based on stereotypes who the ML and FL are.

All I will say is that shenanigans ensue.

I was extremely happy that this went a different route than normal and the MC didn't have a romantic relationship with the novel's ML and instead ended up with someone else.

It's really good to see the MC grow and change throughout the novel as she realises that the people around her aren't just characters in a book.

3.5 stars

Pros:

    • It provides a unique perspective in a Business Management novel since we see the world through the eyes of the secretary and not of the big guys (CEO, shareholders, etc.).
    • The day-to-day life of a contract worker is showcased well.
    • The MC is a levelheaded person who doesn't meddle with things that doesn't need her meddling. She has perfected her attitude of getting along with others.
Cons:

    • The romance is so flat. She has a boyfriend and there are scenes dedicated for the couple, but you just don't get the romantic excitement from reading their scenes. They are so mature, so well-kept that you don't feel the romance at all.
    • There's something about the pacing that's just boring. Obviously the plot is moving, but it just can't make me hooked. I couldn't even finish this story because I got bored.
    • Why is this even placed under the Comedy genre? I didn't find anything funny and I made it until c87.

Okay, maybe not my cup of tea. It was interesting how FL called out on many cliche CEO novel's, it was funny but that's the only part I enjoyed.

I felt FL was a busy body, since she didn't know which novel she transmigrated or what character she played she should have laid down which she did but then again she speculated who will be the heroine and did things which might alter the story. The major turn off for me was how she posted the story of 'heroine' and 'ML'... more>> on forum. I would be annoyed that someone I barely know posted my personal life without my permission on social media. For FL it might be just as a bystander point of view, but the 'heroine' is a living person in that world and has her own emotions. FL might think it was anonymous and okay to post it but it isn't. Positive things about FL is she's hard worker and do have some common sense.

Also felt the story was little bland, it might be too early to judge but yeah I don't plan on continuing. <<less

Quite fun transmigration novel - a good part of the humor is how the MC needed to learn all the tropes in order to avoid them! Another reviewer mentioned how flat the romance angle was and it’s true! Good ideas mostly well done. I’d like to see this authors other work.

Mainly about MC witnessing/meddling a ‘novel story’ unfold in 4D and finding her romance. I quite like MC, especially her professionalism. But there are times when, just like every character in the novel (with probably only LF as an exception), it’s like theres a blackhole in her brain that can’t see through the obvious.

There’s many on the list of her brain blackhole that are spoilers but for one, as with most novel transmigration, took her too long to realise she shouldn’t be treating the world she’s been living in for... more>> like, I don’t even know how many weeks or months, as a freakin book and her, a simple side character, when she’s literally closely interacting with the supposed-ML everyday.
Spoiler

It annoys me when supposed ‘readers’ or ‘melon-eaters’ does something that supposedly ‘helps progress the development’ regardless of whether it does or not. In this case, when MC match-made BYN and GSY. Misinterpreting GSY’s order to her to “take care of her (MC) business in Isabella” as “taking care of BYN” when obviously it’s because she (MC) herself wanted to help BYN so GSY just let her be, was ok. But match-making them so that BYN took her (MC’s) place as GSY’s partner in some party was uncharacteristically unprofessional of her when she didn’t even know BYN all that much. Anyway, yada-yada, now all’s f*cked up, GSY’s all lonely blah blah so she (MC) is feeling guilty.😑What’s her guilt gonna do with all the harm that’s already happened.

[collapse]

Moving on to other characters, well as said before, except LF everyone has their own brain hole. GSY (supposed ML) is a workaholic that got a brain hole upon falling for BYN. BYN is born with a brain hole and is unsalvageable. FH a very loyal friend and good at taking care of people he wants to get along with, thinking of it he’s eccentric when it comes to his lovers but I don’t consider it a brain hole so he’s another guy without a brain hole. JPZ another one who got a brain hole because of love, a haughty girl with excessive GSY obsession. CZ pitiful, loyal dog secret admirer of JPZ, another guy without a brain hole.

The ‘novel’ plot was cliche, st*pid, and anti-climatic. But the interaction of all characters were pretty interesting with all their distinct characters, regardless of the brain holes. As for the romance part, it progressed smoothly, and another point I liked about MC is her thoughts on selecting and expectations on her future boyfriend. But the ending was very very very hasty. A big ❌. Same with the extras, reading the extras is pretty much the same as not reading it.

Overall, had the author put more thoughts in writing, it would’ve turned out better. Most chapters are pretty eventful, I barely skimmed, Some parts are very well written too, and the flow was pretty smooth. Up until you realise everything is ending up half-assed. Many details (some I consider relevant) were left off to “reader’s imagination”. <<less

Obviously ago to read when you have plenty of time to spend. Yeah, the romance does feel a bit flat, but well, I like ML. He is one of the best, I suppose.
