... the ending was so unsatisfactory.
let me firstly just say that if a "straight" man can be "bent, " then he wasn't straight to begin with. I can usually ignore this illogical notion when it appears in BL novels if the BL novel has enough other good points. but not in this novel!
generally speaking, the MC has some sort of realization that he himself actually likes the ML. then, there're comedic shenanigans until the two get together in a loving, two-way relationship.
you get nothing of the sort in this novel. after the MC finds out that the ML likes him, he is shocked and frightened enough to run out immediately. sure, that's fine, I too would be freaked tf out if I saw an entire room filled with photos of me. ahem. I honestly wouldn't mind this plot point if it were then given a satisfactory resolution. but nope, the MC gets together with the ML the next morning.
no, our dense MC didn't have an epiphany where he realized that he liked the ML all along... he got together with the ML because he felt "moved" by how the ML cooks, cleans, and s*aves away for him. excuse me? what is that supposed to mean? I know that this is just supposed to be a light read, but the way that this ending is written makes it feel like the MC is taking pity on the ML by deigning to be in a relationship with him.
all in all, if you take the whole "straight man being bent by a gay !! owo" messaging into account, this novel feels like the most homophobic BL i've read in a long time.
edit: the ML is a sweetie with absolutely zero self-respect. he deserves far better than a man who will maybe like him back somewhere down the line... after years of being waited on hand and foot.
now that I think about it, maybe I'm so mad b/c this reminds me of misogyny. like, I read BL to get AWAY from antiquated gender dynamics. why does our poor shou ML act like a 50s housewife? beats me.
I love that ML has goodies and games in her pockets for MC. I literally want one like that for myself.
Sexuality doesn't really have a play here; not all that important, because if one person likes another person or just enjoys a persons company, than why must they define it. And 'Bent' is just a term to say that they now bat for the other team, he could've been straight before. Why all the straight hate??? Hahaha~
