So the story reads rather well; has a great translation and generally good storytelling. The main character is really enjoyable and I rather like how much it rips on typical Xianxia cliches. Your typical Xianxia protagonists that are harem masters and are mu*derous a**holes that return any sort of insult with violence are actually your antagonists in this novel.

Not an exact quote, but the main character has a rather compelling line in particular where she asks, 'Look at how all these people behave. Are we truly cultivating to become gods, or are we cultivating to become devils?'

My main fault with the series comes from its rather episodic nature. Just about every time the MC solves a problem she dies and gets transferred forward in time / to another world / etc., and we lose the entire cast of characters built up to that point with the exception of her Master. As much as I enjoy the main MC's personality, I would prefer it grounded in a single world with built up relationships, rather than jumping from place to place all the time. <<less

she spent 10 month going from no cultivation to building foundation then despite her master reminding her to cultivate faster she spent 5 years and went from foundation bulding 1 to 2 which is considered crap and the excuse the author gave was she was not in the mode by the way every time she reincarnates to a diffrent world something happens to her cultivation it is either sealed or lost and she has to resore it which is no diffrent than starting from the beggining and in this world she had 1 spirit vein (the lesser the better) but it is considered crap in her current world it will be fine if the people are mistaken but her cultivation speed proves thier right I just cant understan the author

Quite a fun read, and the character pointed out correctly the issue that lead to so many world destroying bugs: The cruelties and big fish eat smaller fish mentality of the people who cultivated to become xian, but act worse than even youkai. Many of the bugs could have been regular good protagonists, or at least someone who only kill when necessary, but they turned excessively cruel or selfish by learning from the world around them, or the world around them misinterpreted their action in the worst possible way.

There's also... more>> a lot of plot weaving that's quite believable.

But the real cream of this novel is all those wacky settings and comedic characters. Disciple Flunk of the Decline Sect. Thumb up. <<less

This is an absolute great read, if not, one of the greatest I've read so far here in NU.

It's about a girl, Zhu Yao, who gets reincarnated into different timelines using different forms.

So you have a guy, a dragon, a phoenix, even a jade rock AND ghost wth?!

[collapse]

The goal is to remove bugs/anomalies in that world.

What's so good about this novel is that the author's (and translator's) way of storytelling is light yet at it turns serious at the right moments. One moment you're crying about that character, the next second you'll be laughing your ass off. The way the author manipulates the emotions of her readers is something even renowned authors fail at. The side characters have extremely rich backgrounds, and they don't just die off, mind you. Since she reincarnates, why can't they too?

And damn, her relationship with her master is something I envy. This is the kind of romance other romance novels should learn from. It's slow and sure and oh so satisfyingly sweet. Not like those novels with MC's who wave their dicks around and gets tons of girls. THIS IS ROMANCE.

The comedy here is gold. That's why I can't read this novel in public. People will start thinking I'm crazy for laughing with my tears and snot coming off (O P S)

Honestly, I can't believe how a novel with such a complicated plot line can be executed so perfectly. And it's a comedy, mind you. That's why I kinda resent those people who voted 1 star because they never really gave the story a chance. Ch 64 and they already started judging harshly.

So if you're not sure whether or not to read this novel, just scroll through the reviews hahaha.

XOXO,

Very good humor that isn't afraid to poke fun at the genre. I really like this novel because it has a strong female MC (decent in power, but strong in personality). It also deals with death (although the disciple doesn't die again and again very frequently like the description would suggest) in an interesting manner I haven't seen before. I think the world building is good, and the writing is at a high level too, where I am constantly excited to see where the plot is going. I think it... more>> deserves more attention for its high level story and humor. The humor is similar to Everyone Else is a Returnee but in a classic setting like ISSTH.

If you are tired of normal xianxia/wuxia fare I would definitely recommend giving this novel a try. It gives a very good everyday view of the genre. Unfortunately, it updates infrequently but hopefully that isn't a turn off. <<less

IGNORE THE DESCRIPTION AND JUST READ THE DAMN STORY.

Love the humor and that crazy wit of the MC. I thought this would be real fluff and not that developed but surprisingly it’s written quite well. Even the fight scenes, who would have thought that a book like this would have accomplished fight scenes? I didn’t, damn wish I read it sooner. It’s also not those typical “blackbelly prince/boss/master” books either, like I originally thought but a genuine parody of all things xianxia. Just think history’s num 1 founder but girl... more>> version and obviously not a founder x’D

The character development is superb in my opinion, though I did hope for a bit more relationship development between some of the characters and the MC (not too serious though, just wanted a bit more to strengthen the feels lol). Anyways, even though the MC starts to get stronger and stuff, her moral character stays true to how she was at the start which is awesome considering how I was sick of seeing morally upright characters grow into arrogant lil radishes once they inhale a little bit of OP gas.

BREATH OF FRESH AIR THIS NOVEL,

One of my favorite novels at the moment for sure !

Like multiple reviews below, future readers shouldn't stop and skip from just reading the summary and description. The slow start is a necessity to portrait the naiveness, straight-forwardness and plain misconception views of our protagonist: Zhu Yao.

Readers of xianxia will be familiar with all the terms and tropes being adressed as "bugs" in this novel for our protagonist to solve. For the less-experienced though, I recommend picking one from the top of the lists and get a decent vocabulary bank... more>> so as not to get lost in the story, pondering what the hell is happening.

I feel the female perspective is refreshing and the pacing is just right as soon as you hit 40+ chapters. There are a-many funny moments to read, and a smile or a grin always stayed not far behind when I kept blazing through the translations. Our MC has the all-important freakishly strong Master and the OP-rebirth abilities; but most importantly, she has our modern common sense and science knowledge that's missing in Old Era novels. Zhu Yao utilizes everything in her own way and loves running in guns blazing.

TL:DR; Read it for female protagonist, mocking xianxia tropes and just having fun. <<less

I was really doubtful at first (The synopsis wasn't clear, and I thought it'd be some useless babble and whatnot of typical weak female MC being carried by some male protagonist). But like other reviewers said, if you're willing to read past the forty-something chapters, you'll be surprised at this little gem. The chapters are kinda short, but the story is a great read. Enjoy deconstructing the Xianxia cultivation world and mocking the all powerful MC with extra cheats. Although our female hero Zhu Yao has the same plot armor... more>> and amazing abilities, how she's fully aware of it (and how she complains of what she lacks) adds a funny twist and comical situations.

I'll edit this review later to add more elements to it but TL;DR: If you're a fan of reincarnation xianxia, female protagonist who uses her brains (and her modern common sense) in an ancient times world, you're in for a treat ! <<less

XD definitely one of the best MC I met so far. Her monolog is hilarious, her way of thinking is funny, and she’s “s*upid” by good definition. Love zhu yao so much and her interaction with her OP master, yu yan is the best, pure gold XD looking forward to the ending.

This is seriously funny. If you read the synopsis and find it interesting, read it you won’t be disappointed.

I laugh so much especially with MC interaction with her Master and her monologue. MC is a smart girl but sometimes she’s slow on the uptakes, her Master is a very powerful cultivator but he has no common sense whatsoever, hence the dialogues between them are hilariously funny. What a breath of fresh air reading this while reading other novels with revenge killings, mu*der, etc.

Hahaha, this novel is hilarious. The main character's descriptions of everyone are fantastic. Don't expect a fast paced storyline for the first volume or so but the slice of life is great.

Enough chapters have been released for me to put out a review. Five out of Five. Nyanko doesn't give many of these. This story is a send-up of every Xianxia novel you've read so far; so a bit of background knowledge would be beneficial before you read it. The story has a light hearted feeling, and Scrya's almost daily translation helps make up for the short story content; it moves fast and while the plot is slow to develop, it's actually fairly good; and very surprising! I love this novel, it’s one of the best..

The story is set in cultivation world, but this is not a true cultivation novel. So don’t come expecting an ISSTH or GDBBM-style novel. Instead, read this if you like Japanese light novels with interesting world-building and stories. On the surface, this novel looks like a comedic novel that doesn’t take itself too seriously. I’d say it’s the other way around, this is a story-heavy novel written funnily.

This story began when the protagonist was killed by a truck and transmigrated teleported straight... more>> to the cultivation world from her own office! So begin the misadventure of Zhu Yao, a bright and somewhat s*upid leftover girl, and her master Yu Yan, a 16 thousand year old dork from Ancient Hill Sect.

Score : 9/10

PS. I know this is supposed to be a review, but I don’t want to spoil the story for the new reader ;D. <<less

The novel is really funny. The opening 20 chapters is great. It builds the characters very well and creates meaningful moments between them. The book epitomizes the best of chinese authors in terms of their unique wit and style of prose. However, the biggest drawback of the novel is a fatal flaw, and that is its premise.

The MC, the disciple, dies, a lot. Not restarting from a save point. They literally die and then are reincarnated some time later and become the disciple of the same master. What this means... more>> is that they become a new character and all the character interactions between the MC's old life and the supporting characters are completely wasted. It makes the entire story pointless. If it was just a normal cultivation novel without the gimmick, it could have been something great. <<less

Still omw to finishing this, but leaving a review pre-completion since I'm free atm.

TL;DR: Not sth to be read seriously, you need about 40% brainpower max. It's a good typical xianxia, but keep in mind this is sth from 2014, almost a decade ago alr. So it may not match the current humor buuut I've read many of the same genre in this time-frame, and imo it's good for its time.

Up to 100+ chapters I was stoked on giving this a 5star rating but over time, I get why others... more>> complained. Even so, I feel like this novel deserves for its strengths to be acknowledged because it's hard to write a long plotline that's popular in Chinese xianxia/wuxia fiction.

Strengths: It has an interesting premise (and the rebirth card is not overly present imo, as the MC has no control over her next form which creates interesting situations, and her interaction with the ML is cute), funny characters (plenty of dog-blooded villains and plenty more satisfying vengeance) and typical xianxia elements (as a xianxia fan, I don't consider this a flaw but to each their own).

Flaws: plot loses itself when the main cast ascends

Spoiler

before her fifth rebirth, somewhere in the ~140 chapter

[collapse]

It feels like the author is grasping for straws after the Nth rebirth, and it's obvious that there are some gaping plotholes that could've been addressed, and like many xianxia/wuxia novels, expect some moments of "who is this guy again..?" (But the author luckily does drop enough subtle hints you'll get it in time eventually). The MC herself is a bit annoying as the novel takes its time in revealing her true circumstance, which may make you think she truly is an airhead (though sometimes you do question her actions).

basically the writing could've greatly benefited from an editor, I would love to see more plot points explored, especially the characters.

I really do wish this novel could've had someone to edit it, there's a LOT of potential that could've made it better than it is. However overall though I'm sufficed to say that it's a good read. Not the best, but definitely not /bad/. <<less
