Within the demon race, there was a notorious demon who was known as the demon king and he suddenly disappeared one day. When Xie Yan went downstairs to throw out the tr*sh, he found a half-dead silver gradient cat lying next to the tr*sh can. Perhaps due to fate, the kitten followed him home and he decided to take it in. Soon after, Xie Yan realised that the cat was intelligent and had a spiritual consciousness, but it had a bad temper and didn’t allow Xie Yan to touch it.

He cared for the kitten tenderly for more than half a month. As a result, the kitten jumped out the window and ran away while he was sleeping. Before he could find his cat, he met Ji Qinghuai by chance. It was the first time they met but for some reason, he felt an odd sense of familiarity.

Ji Qinghuai seemed to know his living habits and other things that no one else would know. There were many indications that there was something odd about Ji Qinghuai, so he was wary of this person. However, when he found his cat’s bell with Ji Qinghuai, Ji Qinghuai could no longer hide.

Xie Yan stopped Ji Qinghuai and asked, “Young master Ji, you abducted my cat. Shouldn’t you give me an explanation?”

Ji Qinghuai, our actual MC (and gong), is a cat demon actor who has a reputation among other demons for being unruly and prone to fighting. He first meets Xie Yan after he is forced into his cat form due to a cold sickness (not an actual cold but a literal cold chill) and is picked up and raised as a pet for around half a month. After going back home, he can't forget about his time as a cat and tries to approach Xie Yan again as a human,... more>> but before his love has the chance to bloom, he finds out Xie Yan isn't as simple as he thought and is discouraged from approaching him. Fortunately, he won't let a little thing like reputation and hierarchy get in his way, and they eventually get together after a few more misunderstandings.

Their roles are really different from what I thought it would be like. Xie Yan is the mysterious powerful demon boss who does things like sending out his underlings to beat up the guy who harmed his darling, while Ji Qinghuai is the hapless movie star (plus powerful brother and father) with hearts in his eyes who thinks Mr. Xie is just a nice, misunderstood man who treats him so well. Although Ji Qinghuai being the gong doesn't really matter, it's a shock considering how he really checks all the marks for "squeamish, wronged but cheerful sweetheart shou" and Xie Yan is a poster boy for "powerful, dangerous hot-head gong with a tragic past".

The plot is pretty good. There's a couple of "is the MC s*upid" scenes that are justified because MC really is s*upid. The pet transformation, transform back to human, and identity reveal are all executed really well. The conflicts are a little annoying at times, but aren't over the top, are decently built up to, and are resolved satisfyingly.

The entire story is very short, which is great for avoiding tedious unnecessary plot but is very unsatisfying especially near the end, where everything is just summarized and the ending feels too rushed. The cat raising section barely gets into the pet stuff and has little meng to enjoy, and the ending is essentially just "this important thing happened and then a year passed and all of these important stuff happened by the way". An entire arc is dealt with in 1 and a half chapters.

Overall, definitely recommend as a quick read, but I wish there was more. <<less

Better than 3 stars but worse than 4. The pacing is a bit off but the story in itself is still kinda cute. The part where Mr. Xie cares for the cat is rather short and fast forward. It jumps fast to the part where MC realizes his love and tries to butter up as a human to Mr. Xie.

The love development is a bit strange. Well most of the story is trying to sell meng and then the pacing strikes again... there is a whole world of drama in... more>> the last 10 chapters that came kind of out of nowhere.

So reading once is ok and somewhat entertaining. <<less

The relationship between the two main characters didn't do anything for me. It didn't feel like there was a real connection between them.

The MC is an idiot. Everything"unlucky" that happens to him is because he's s*upid or refuses to communicate.

The pacing of the story is also really slow. Nothing really happens the majority of the time and when something does happen it feels anti-climactic.

The villains came out of nowhere and even do the cliché thing where they explain their entire reasoning and story to the main characters all in... more>> one go. <<less

This novel is a bit of a mess. It's missing a lot of detail and gets more and more sporadic and confusing as it goes on. It's a strange overlap of demons, the entertainment circle, a historical war, mystery/suspense, cultivation, and romance. There isn't enough time to explain any of it properly. I would say it's not fluffy enough to make up for it either. Left me mostly feeling confused by the end.

The previous ratings all made sense actually, but for the most part, I found this novel cute and I turned my brain off while reading this. This is a pretty short novel, a persistent cute gong x cold loving shou with a teeny bit of mystery and action and A Lot of information overload.

Actually pretty good to pass the time.

While this is is cute and all, the pacing is kinda weird. There are times that the author focuses on one thing, but then all of a sudden another thing is happening and we get all these new names, their background and then it’s just info overload. The ending is kinda abrupt for me considering all the build up in the earlier parts of the novel. The romance part is also a bit lacking more than the first part of the novel. The later parts and the extras are great... more>> though. Overall, it’s cute but if you’re looking for a well rounded piece of literature, it’s not it. <<less

This novel is... okay. For some casual reading, if you are bored and do not expect much. The premise of the story and the plot are good, but the execution was a little lacking.

I had a hard time feeling close to the main characters. Xie Yan is meant to have a cold and calm personality. That is not easy to pull off and the author didn't manage it. Imagining the scenes, most of the time, the Xie Yan in my head was pretty much a wooden mannequin just standing/sitting there.... more>> To add to that, until the last few chapters, the reader knows nothing about Xie Yan, so it is really hard to empathize with him. As for Ji Qinghuai, I hah a hard time grasping his personality. Usually a character has at least one or two personality traits that characterize them and can be seen in all their actions. With Ji Qinghuai, I felt like the author didn't properly set a personality for him, just going with their mood. He kept giving me mixed messages.

The pacing of the story was off. Some parts seem dragged out unnecessarily. Most of the novel goes at a relatively slow pace and then in the last chapters there is suddenly a big information and plot dump. Some things are not explained well, or would be much more engaging if they were introduced gradually, instead of just poured on you all at once at the end. The idea of the plot itself was good, but the pacing was not. It definitely suffered from being a web novel, written chapter by chapter instead of as a whole. <<less

A very cute and wholesome read. I really liked this story very very much, it's not too heavy and have the right amount of cuteness and comedy. Rn the story is completed and has 4 extras which are all very cuteeee and good. The translator said the author may write more extras so that's something to look forward too. But yeah, don't let that stop u because even if there r no more extras, the 4 r already enough.

Definitely reccommend everyone to read this story, if u just wanna read... more>> something nice and fluffy. <<less

The main story was completed and the rest are extras. I pray all the extras are good and satisfying!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Anyway... This Novel is really Really Good!!! I'M LOVING IT!!!

Our MC are Lovable Adorkable person. He's definitely a Cat. In his Catform he was Cute and slightly Highty Mighty like a Normal Cat. But in his Human form, he was like a Puppy. It was weird and make sense at the same time. I LOVE IT!!!

I Love how ML was Cold and slightly cautious at the beginning, but he didn't misunderstood... more>> things. And things between him and MC mostly always good. Their relationship are Cute and Sweet!

I Love how MC also have a Good Family. While the people who raised ML was also have Unique personality but their act mostly mean well.

It maybe not be Perfect, but this novel is beyond expectations in very good way! And I'm LOVING IT TO THE MOON AND BEYOND!!!.

Pray so hard the rest of the extras are good!!! 🙏🙏🙏 <<less

If you're looking for a quick read and don't want to think too deeply about the plot or characters, I think the novel is an okay way to pass the time.

The reason for my low rating is that I started to get really frustrated with how naive and dumb the MC is. Part of it may be because we have more perspective as readers, but he falls for very obvious traps without even thinking about them even when he knows there's someone out to get him and that he should... more>> be more careful.

The novel could also use more in depth world building. It's a short novel so it makes sense, but a lot of things are skimmed over and not really explained at all, like how the human world coexists with the demon world or how the MC can be an actor if his life span is so much longer than a normal human's (like wouldn't fans notice he isn't aging, or even if he retires, wouldn't people on the street still recognize him?).

The bad guys are very superficial and you don't really get to far into either the conflict or the resolution. The "main" bad guy doesn't even show up until the last few chapters, making the ending feel very rushed. <<less
