I love loveee this novel very much, although it always tries to confuse me haha, it's mainly divided into three arcs all of which are wonderfully dived into. The body horror is real, and although there are often always comedic and dramatic undertones, this is a horror novel through and through, it almost made me throw up several times! :D

The story takes place on a mysterious planet called as192, where the crew with the MC crashlands with their ship Helios. In the setting, Earth is already very technologically advanced... more>> and has succeeded in communicating with other life in the universe (MC's job is teaching at the Earth-Moon Union University, which implies that humans already live on the Moon).

Their ally, the Suna (a hippie, insect-loving race from far away) suddenly all fell into insanity for no apparent reason, and their ship Helios are smugglers looting the Suna planet.

About the ML

The sypnosis couldn't be more disconnected from the plot, in fact, the plot seemed to have been changed several times during the production, the author says this herself too.

The ML is raised by the MC from a baby caterpillar, he's somewhat similar to Munster (a character from her other work) in that he can go through rapid evolution and body manipulation (which often results in disgusting visuals) but it should be said that ML is an absolute sweetheart, he's so caring and sweet, and just about the biggest softie (ok maybe exaggeration)

BTW, he's a god

This novel explores less human morality, and more the Eldritch truth, from brief alternate timelines to lessons from the past, and how feeble but strong humans are in the scope of the universe. It's a very exciting, entertaining, toe-curling novel that won't let you sleep at night!

First of all I'm afraid of creepy crawlies lol. So I'm actually very reluctant to start this novel. When I discovered that it was done by Pasttimer, I tried to continue on as I usually ended up liking her choice of stories (to translate).

The first arc definitely has all the ingredients of a perfect horror film: Getting lost in nowhere, spaceship stucked for some reason, a boss that is increasingly weirder day by day and finally the people around you starts missing. I never thought I'll be able to go... more>> through it but I just did. I'm thankful I was still able to read it alone at night LOL. But its definitely gory. And Idk but I fare better in the body modification plot in the second arc. From there I got obsessed reading. Actually, even if the author did not say it straight, everything about them screams "zerg" from evolution to habits. In other stories, the heroes usually destroy this mad, mindless Insect Matriarch who is solely all about production and galaxy domination. But this time, we get the POV from the other side, how it's like as a zerg. The author did a pretty good job of building the vast sci-fi world too while still keeping the dark and mysterious air since chapter 1. I dunno how many times I gagged from disgust. The gore was employed very well. It's not overdone and the creatures and the world the author weaved is creative.

Perhaps the author just wanted to avoid copyright issues thus she kept from mentioning "Zerg" (maybe just once or twice in the MTL) but aside from good ol' plain Starcraft elements, she did way more and expanded that world. The whole adventure gives a nostalgia of clearing up a horror video game. For being impressed, I will give 5*.

And oh, before I forget: Yes, there is romance but the distribution is tied very closely with the scifi plot (but will increase around the end). It more about MC experiencing character development; about accepting what he is but not succumbing to the old and weave his own unique destiny as Mother of Zergs

But the ending is still super sweet. (Please read the extras! The cubs' life are featured there) At the ending it shows that if the couple did not end up together for some reasons, say in the parallel world, the destruction of the world will still happen. So them falling inlove in this world had actually saved billions of lives.

PS: There are some extra chapters from the future episode (after the epilogue) that were scattered within the main story so that chapter might be confusing. Just skip them and return to it later after you finished. <<less

I recommand it. This novel is amazing & hair raising specialy for me who can't take insects while reading this I was cheking around for c*ckroaches and spiders🪳🕷🪳 it scared me still I loved number one🦋 he was the sweetest the charactors were lovely like mc's brother and sister in law and how they accepted MC even though he was not human

What I liked to see was for them to go to another planet and make zerg kingdom with better tecnology (I'm not on human side actully in this novel... more>> sorry😒😒) I didn't want them to stay on earth even though the auther did great job in reasoning

What made me sad in this novel is captain scripps story that one is a real tragedy and made me mad

I get that he was born and trained for mankind but by becoming mother of insects he could have a family that loved him and wouldn't mind dying for him but what did he do?! He made his children and his king reaseach material it was heartbreaking and maddening 🤬🤬his king of insects was the only charactor that made an appearance in one scene and still made me cry😭. He was the worst to those who really cared for him (insects) and worked for humans I really hated him even if he's supposed to be a hero I can't accept his choices😡😡 <<less

The world building is very good, there is a lot of action and mystery, but the romance is crap.

... more>>[/For context, ML is an alien butterfly and doesn't good looks, and because of this, both MC and other characters make snide comments about his appearance, calling him ugly, a monster, an abomination, disgusting, and other cruel things. The poor guy even went as far as to hide his own face because he didn't want MC to see his appearance and cried his eyes out over it. This went on until the chapter I read (82) and shows no signs of stopping any time soon.

I mean, I like slow burn, but is it really necessary to stretch this cruel bullying over 80 chapters?

But that's not the reason why I dropped the romance, because I understand that it can (AND SHOULD!!!) be developed.

MC has an ex-fiancé who went crazy and killed himself called Xavier and, when ML finds out about him, he starts transforming into Xavier's appearance to try to win MC over and it really works, MC becomes a little more docile with him, but makes it clear that it's because he looks like Xavier.

The cherry on top of the cake and the reason for my fury was that MC promised that he would give a name to Number One (ML's nickname) after he went through the metamorphosis and guess what the name was? Xavier. I thought "maybe there will be more development and he will get his own name and not be on Xavier shadow's anymore" and I was so wrong. I skipped to the last chapter and ML continued named after Xavier.

My anger about this is more directed at the author than the MC, because ML wanted to be called Xavier so that he would be loved by MC and MC was just like "oh ok", but it seems like the author can't let go of Xavier and turned ML into a copy of him. If you like Xavier so much, why not just keep him alive and make him ML? Don't do this sh*t and turn ML into a copy of him, damn it. Even the bugs that were born looked like Xavier. Very annoying.

I dropped this because even if author makes a shitty development like "Your name is Xavier because now will give it a new meaning and blah blah blah" I won't be able to take it. It will forever feel like ML is a spare version of Xavier for me.]

And from what I read there was no real romance developed between them, MC was too busy being disgusted by ML's appearance for 82 CHAPTERS to have any romance. <<less

I need more novels like this...

The plot of this danmei is really chef's kiss (⁠ʃ⁠ƪ⁠＾⁠3⁠＾⁠）

I'll say that the author's writing style for this particular novel is easy to understand and comprehend, you can follow along easily. The mtl is really easy to understand as well if you're impatient. Love the characters and also their stories and personalities. I also love the character development of the MC (and also the ML). The MC is quite realistic in my opinion.

I loveee everything that happened in the novel, the plot is not what... more>> I expected. The sci-fi is really sci-fiying, plot twist is crazy good. There's horror elements to it too, keep in mind this novel is kinda dark I suppose? Well, it's not for everyone.

The world building itself is quite good imo, It's put in the future where mankind are able to contact other life forms from other planets and visits them. Although there's not much stuff about the future earth itself (it's prolly mentioned less than 7 times).*The interstellar in this novel is different than most other interstellar Danmei novels btw*.

Last but not least, it's about the insects. I hateee butterflies and moths, and am scared of them (I think I have a phobia). BUT, my mind throughout the story is just how cute they are, mainly the ML and also their children.

yes, the MC is going to be an actual 'mother' like what the title says, there will be mpreg where he's actually 'eggnant' for some time.

Also something that I forgot to add, it's about the synopsis ig, it might be confusing, BUT, I'm going to explain it. So the MC is actually in love with his adopted brother even though he is adopted himself (also I'm talking about his other brother, not the one that's with him on the spaceship). And yes if I'm not mistaken they got into a relationship, but for plot reasons, his brother/lover died of course. And as per the synopsis, the ML's human form took the shape of MC's past lover, hence why he said "you can never be that person". Also bear with me, but I 90% mtl this novel so the part where MC is with his adopted brother might be a mistranslation on my end (well I don't mind it either way LOL).

All in all, this novel is sooo good. Don't mind the synopsis too much. Also yes, there's a bit of angst (it's like 35% though, I'm being generous), not to the point where you'll cry bloody tears AKA dog blood drama! For me it's perfect, cause if there's too much angst, my head and heart will actually hurt, like actually :I

Honestly, it's been years since I read a novel where I couldn't stop reading and thinking about it. This novel conveys the air that exists in the Alien films; in the film The thing; in predator films; I was surprised by how good the sci-fi mixed with horror is in this novel. In fact, don't believe the synopsis, ML is a little angel. The characters are not 2D, they are extremely charismatic, and so is the MC. It's complicated. There's a lot of eldritch stuff in this which is honestly kind of fantastic and well-done, even through the MTL. I really enjoyed reading it after I got over the bug thing.

Also added "evil protagonist" as a tag - even though it's really blue and orange morality, that's the best equivalent here, I think. <<less

Love it. I have a heavy taste. This one is quite good at keeping me full. We got a desperate MC doing all he can to survive n return back home but failing miserably. We love that. The we got a cutesy ML trying to woo MC n just being a ball of sunshine w the power of a nuclear bomb

Pros:

Definitely a memorable piece. I mean MC that tyrned into half monster/insect. Tbh, not a big fan of insect, I just think of them as aliens. We also got some... more>> babies (through dubious consent??) Then a good ending

Lovable ML. Bro molded his face to look like the person MC's got a crush on. A puppy type ML that listen to everything the MC told him to do.

Cons:

There's not enought angst going around. Honestly in terms of realism in relation to MC's character; MC would have lost his mind like real cray cray. It doesn't help that the synopsis has this angsty tone to it.

A nice read but u could find angstier n down right pyschotic stories elsewhere <<less

I really recommend this novel. The MC is pretty realistic in the sense and the horror is so good. I personally believe its the progression of the novel which is the best.

The first arc is more horror, then becomes more fantasy. The love between the main leads is actually really good and first the horror and pain the MC is subjected to is not glossed over and his emotions are seen. The progression of the mc's emotions to become the Mother is really well done.

Im loving this too much! Translator-sama already describe this as detailed as it can be. I just wanna say how good this novel is. Kinda confusing at first but we'll get there I believe. This is seriously such a great novel to read.

y'all will gonna love number 1 he is so freaking adorable and sweet. I did cry when he cried, he is just so sweet thou nvm his appearance he's srsly a puppy in disguise! Hahaha on the other hand, our MC is calm, smart and rational. They suit... more>> each other. I love their interactions and imma reread this when the official translation is finished. <<less

WOW. Only 1/4 into the novel and I'm stoked. Too exciting for me!

(I put 5 ⭐ but it accidentally gave me 1 😭😭😭

And insects... are not the first time that would come to mind for being cute. In fact, it's almost never!! Author Sama has a twisted sense of taste... But great writing nevertheless

Ohh, I love the plot and characters... And the author really have a grotesque imagination, the gory scenes and how the author describe it is superb! As a fan of alien movies this is very good, also you will be immersed and can't stop guessing the next happenings of the story. Overall, I will recommend this a 100% (of course if you can take the gory and bloody scenes).

Ps. Love the scenes between chapter 40-60... The alien and bugs in this chapters are just disgusting and otherworldly.
