Professor System has issued a mission: to rescue the gentle, kind and tragic protagonist shou of the novel “The Exceptional Furnace”.

Song ‘Scholar-Tyrant’ Qingshi: “Don’t worry, Professor! I can definitely ensure the patient’s recovery!”

In the Immortal Realm:

Song Qingshi praised from the bottom of his heart: “My patient is the kindest and most beautiful little angel in the world.”

Yue Wuhuan quietly washed the blood from his hands and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi swore from the bottom of his heart: “As a doctor, I will never covet nor take advantage of my beautiful patient!”

Yue Wuhuan took full and complete advantage of the doctor and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi affirmed from the bottom of his heart: “Under my loving care, the patient will never be blackened!”

Yue Wuhuan secretly hid his monstrously evil thoughts and smiled softly: “En.”

At that inextinguishable summit, upon thousand and thousands of soul lamps, he sat on the god’s throne of white bone, guarding that piece of stone.

“You are the only one in this world who treats me tenderly.”

“And so, you are the only one I treat tenderly.”

Scholar-tyrant Song was absolutely delighted: “Professor! Can I get full marks?”

Professor System exploded: “You fool! You saved the wrong person!”

Let me first start off by thanking the translator for their amazing translation work!

This started off strong but got pretty generic and tired real quick. Our MC completely disregards the character he was assigned and turns into a helpless fool almost immediately. I can't stand the bumbling idiot trope, aren't you supposed to be well educated doctor?? He's written a bit like an uwu smol bean tumblr oc.

The plotlines are all over the place too, there were several places it could've ended nicely and you're just beating a dead horse... more>> at this point! At this point it feels like the author smooshed together like three smaller novels and tried to make it work together.

The romance is decent, heteronormative but decent.

Overall its an okay read if you can look past these flaws, I've made it this far so I'll be seeing it to the end but I won't be recommending it to people <<less

I'm saying this now, you have to read the entire story in order to understand why things happen.

The author makes it pretty clear that she doesn't have events "just for show". All the things happen happen for a reason.

This novel is really great, although not on the same level as MDZS and TGCF, the writing is near it.

... more>> It's a great novel and although it didn't make me cry, I did feel heart ache for the characters.

This novel is worth it, entirely worth it. And as I said previously, everything that happened, happened for a reason.

The system, the psychology of the leads, why An Long isn't chosen, ect, ect.

Everything is foreshadowed and interconnected. Their love for each other withstood time and pain.

For he was born for him while he himself waited for him to learn love.

10/10

Well, how should I say, every cloud has a silver lining? This is a story of hope and redemption, the synopsis does not even touch the essence of this novel. This novel depicts how filthy a human heart can be, and how degenerate a society can be. Though all of these are blamed upon the demon at the end of the novel but to be honest there's no difference between the situation in this novel to our current world. That's why I need to pause many time while reading this... more>> especially at the beginning where the author describe how pitiful is the fate of the ML, because I realise those kind of things does happen and still happening in many conners of the world.

Coming back to the story, I really appreciate the MC's characters in the midst of the filthy environment, where he can be the ML's salvation and hope. He might look dull and foolish, but he's just lacking in EQ and social skills. What can I say, I think this character of his is the main reason why he's the perfect one for ML. The MC is smart enough and he knows what he wants. It was just that his thinking and reaction reflex is a bit different from normal people, so don't blame him for that. He is the most hardworking and dedicated character in the entire novel, with sole purpose from beginning till the end.

ML is pitiful, yes. He fell under the calculations of others and suffered for such a long time. I won't say much about him, read this novel and you'll know.

Though I think some parts of the novel are redundant, while others need more description, but since I MTLed the rest of the chapters, I can't really judge the writing and the plot line.

Well anyway, it's a good read. At least the wound at the beginning was healed and it save my heart from breaking and hurting.

P/s: please don't mind my crappy English <<less

This novel is a long therapy session & trust me, you'll come out of it wishing you were born a stone. Don't ask questions- just read it!

The story at a glance: a knowledge-loving bookworm transmigrates into a system-run world in order to save the protagonist shou but ends up saving the villain

The story in actuality: a diehard yandere & his starry-eyed fan

... more>> Me reading this story: I... kinda want a yandere...

My two-cents:

This novel is GOOD. If you need another synonym: it's CRAZY GOOD. Unfortunately, my ability to express in English pales in comparison to the flowery allegories & poetic references that this novel has.

I like how this novel includes a lot of themes about trauma, abuse, recovery from said abuse, finding hope when hope is desolate, etc. I feel like it's done a pretty excellent job in incorporating those themes & not brushing over them lightly. The ML is cracked; he's a yandere for goodness sake- that type isn't normal. Fortunately, this novel takes a pretty interesting route in recovery & character development. Surprisingly, it's not only just the ML who's given a redemption ticket, but plenty of other characters are given ample depth to their respective roles. A compelling plot is one thing; a compelling plot with quality characters that are able to be empathized with is another.

The worldbuilding caught me off guard because my pea-brain self wasn't reading much between the lines, so when the full scale unraveled itself, I was blown to pieces. This is an exaggeration btw- I had an inkling of the direction because the author did give decent foreshadowing & hints. The conclusion was beyond satisfaction; I LOVE how it ended & the meaning behind the entirety of the main CP's journey. It's a lot of love, redemption, sacrifice, & forgiveness.

BTW I LOVE THE TL! Thank you for your time & efforts; the translation was phenomenal. I might have to read this a couple of times to fully digest. NO SMUT it's the fade to black with a bunch of flowery lines sort of thing. Now back to reading subpar novels lol <<less

Had a very strong start with interesting characters and dynamics. The premise of having a male lead who is neither the innocent, untouched shou, nor the confident, dastardly gong is quite compelling. It was on the right track up until after Ch 31 where it starts to drag, then go downhill. Overall this novel is a lot of missed opportunity. It's full of solid ideas that are let down by the execution.

Pacing:
This is a character-driven novel. The plot is the relationship and if there is a greater conflict past... more>> Ch 61, it's clearly used as a backdrop, not a device that drives the story forwards. That means it's strongest when there's steady character growth or relationship development.

It is strongest in it's first fourth, where you learn about Song Qingshi, Yue Wuhuan, and their relationship. They go from distrusting strangers, to fond gratitude, to something more. It's beautiful to watch them be curious about each other and grow closer. At Ch 31, there's a small climax that promises it's going to be a turning point, whether that's a greater conflict or demarcation in their relationship. Instead, it goes unaddressed even until Ch 61+, which marks the half of the novel.

From here on out, the relationship is stagnant for 30 chapters.
Spoiler

Before Song Qingshi falls into a coma for ten years

[collapse]
, he already wants to give the world to Yue Wuhuan, trusts him absolutely, and feels his heart/cultivation shake for him. Yue Wuhuan also experiences a conflict between desire and inferiority complex. These are already efficiently established through action rather than narration prior to Ch 31. But these points are given no further development.

Consider Ch 31-61 an endless loop of descriptive monologue that reestablishes what the readers already know. I enjoy my fair share of internal narration when it's filled with metaphor and gives deeper nuance, but here, the author even uses the exact same words and phrases from one paragraph to the next. This emphasizes the lack of forward motion in the novel.

Without development, there's nothing to drive the plot forwards. When you look at their relationship at Ch 31 and Ch 61, there's minimal difference. Without conflict, development, or uncertainty, the novel becomes aimless. Characters:

Everything the author does to establish the characters gets invalidated in Ch. 31 to 61. The characterizations frequently contradict themselves, seesawing back and forth between chapters and sometimes even between paragraphs. All the character growth of Yue Wuhuan is reset, and Song Qingshi becomes less and less recognizable as time goes by. This is especially punishing when the novel is entirely character-driven.

On Yue Wuhuan -
Spoiler

There's a timeskip where Yue Wuhuan has a decade to live outside Song Qingshi's observation. Instead of letting his "new self" show through his actions, we're directly told who he is via narration.

[collapse]
But his actions frequently contradict the narration in a way that doesn't feel intentional. Who he is in one moment and the next is entirely plot convenient.

In one chapter, Yue Wuhuan wants to preserve Song Qingshi's innocence, to the point of wanting to hide/imprison him and never touching him. Next chapter, he's completely fine with touching him. In the following, he's once again unwilling. He is described as crazy and wild for revenge. But in a later chapter, he says revenge is unrealistic. If it were the case that Yue Wuhuan's internal monologue is consistent, but his actions prove otherwise, it would be easy to interpret this as a simple case of unreliable narrator. But everything is incoherent. He will seek revenge in one chapter, but ignore an offender in the next. His thoughts contradict his other thoughts, his actions contradict his other actions, and the thoughts and actions themselves are in opposition. As a character, he does not gradually regress or grow, but rather swings inexplicably between two different states when it suits the situation. There is no sense of continuity here.

On Song Qingshi -
He gets even worse treatment. Whereas some of Yue Wuhuan's contradictions can be excused as part of his mental instability, OOC behavior is more obvious with SQS.

The first thing we ever learn about Song Qingshi is that he desires a healthy body, wants to live, and would be forever happy locking himself away for a thousand more years to research. He immediately lied for this opportunity for a second life.

Suddenly in Ch. 60,
Spoiler

he would be willing to die if only to make others feel better and has no regrets. If An Long wanted him to die, he could die at any time. He is deeply insecure and displays suicidal tendencies.

[collapse]
This should not be the case even if it was prior to meeting Yue Wuhuan, given his thoughts in Ch. 1, before their first encounter.

He also goes from happily a shut-in to having deep desires to have friends, travel the world, and embark on adventures. Perhaps it could be explained away as him lying to himself that his isolation is self-inflicted. And yet, his ultimate desire is still to do these exact things.

He's shown to be intimidating externally, but secretly kind. He saves villagers from poisoned prey and children from kidnappers. He's righteously indignant about injustice. But he also says he can kill or torture anyone if Yue Wuhuan wants him to. In one moment he says he can forgive An Long, even willingly die, since his wrongdoings were not intentional. The next paragraph, he says he cannot forgive him.

The characters became caricatures of themselves. Traits appear and disappear at will for pity, for convenience, for a multitude of other reasons. It's incredibly difficult to be engaged in the story when it feels like you're reading about different characters from one paragraph to the next <<less

Don't get me wrong, it's a good story. It's just that MC's too dumb, soft and clueless to my liking. I get that you're not that good with dealing ppl, but the hell man? How did you survive for hundreds of years without MLs' help?

You can't make friends? Alright. Bad at making small talks? OK. But why it looks like you can't do anything at all besides research? It was humorous at first later just left me baffled. Alright fam, do your thing, this world also needs soft, in need... more>> of protection, endearing shous with Nascent Soul cultivation.

I also dislike love triangles, haven't looked at the tags, that's my fault. I like An Long more what to do??

Now, how do I even rate this? Can't cross a star because of love triangle, "naive protag" was also in the tags... Naah don't care, 3.

I kept thinking that I would come back and finish this novel. But I was wrong. So Im just gonna drop this novel.

I felt like the story wasn't moving. Many problems were getting resolved but then it would keep repeating. I also kept getting annoyed at the bestfriend. I dont remember why. I read this novel about 5 months ago.

Spoiler

I also despise love triangles a lot. I can read novels where the best friend has feelings for the MC. But only if the MC was making it clear to the best friend that it wasn't reciprocated. The MC in this novel was very dense in terms of understanding feelings.

[collapse]

People have told me to keep reading, that it gets better. But I can't. I gave myself a headache trying to continue this novel. I literally had to give up on reading ancient novels for a long time after reading this novel. Thats how boring and uninteresting I found this novel.

No shade to anyone who likes it. Maybe if I kept reading I would've liked it. <<less

S tier novel, if not higher.
The author (eventually at some point) made the comment that they wrote the novel in mind of going against stereotypes and that they wouldn't write characters without a purpose, which does prove itself to me at least, by the end of the story.

Stereotypes and clichés are unavoidable, but it all comes down to your own execution. Aside from breaking certain tropes, it gave also certain clichés a breath of fresh air.

The story gets better as you advance. The characters grew on me and I... more>> wanted to indulge and protect them, ALL of them including the 2nd ML that I disliked at first.

And here a disclaimer: All sorts of vile sexual, emotional and physical abuse will be part of mainly ML's life and it might set of triggers so read with care. This is also one of the rarer main characters who had been 'defiled' to this extend (which in itself isn't a bad thing, from a reader's aspect over general chinese novels and its overall obsession with sterile levels of purity).

The traumas are written realistically, the mental illnesses were convincing and relatable.
Normally, the plot and romance would be set apart, giving room to growth each at a different time. However author wove both plot and romance together so well, you don't feel like there was a lack of plot nor romance. From the beginning til end, there was nothing BUT plot and romance.

The MC is a sweet sweet sweet bun, a bit ditzy clumsy in emotional intelligence but highly diligent and steadfast.
ML, despite the trauma he's forced to bear, is extremely radiant in his own ways.
Despite being a yandere, he never tried to forcefully acquire the other's affection. It nevertheless, is an obsession, but MC and him both want to fix it because both recognize the unhealthy aspect it.
He has a measured level of violence and wouldn't extend harm onto unrelated and innocent people. Different kinds of wrong-doings deserve different kinds of punishments, at times with a chance of redemption. This benevolence is also an extension of MC's patient guidance and what little goodness that remained deep buried within the ML.
Side characters all had their impact either on the story or for growth of the characters, simultaneously also meet their retributions or find their happy endings.

Conclusive, decisive and rounded story telling.

SN: Great translations and explanations by Chrysanthemum Garden's sleepy 'lil 'shroom.

Spoiler

For this to extend to godhood and celestial talk, I'm quite impressed that the author made generally unrelatable beings, relatable. Though, towards the end, it muddled the sterile purity trope through. The 'defiled' body wasn't real but the memory was. The ML accepted that dark and dirty past and moves on.

Not saying I wish he was better of remaining partially broken with that physical and emotional trauma, but it lost a bit of the genuine hurt that build his character, if you know what I mean. Given, the ML uses also that experience later on as growth, it doesn't change the fact the author tried to clean wash his physical being and put it aside and a terrible nightmare or simulation.

After all, their love relationship developed in this 'simulation' and it's not like the woke up and walked separate ways....I suppose that's my sole complaint, as well as conflict.

What I loved about the novel was how deeply the transmigration system plot got. It was thoroughly explored and even got exposed to the ML.
Gotta admit I'm fed up with protagonists hiding the truth of their background from their lovers (especially those who trade the target's sincerity for system points, that's to me, exploitation; not that the MC does it since ML is the wrong target as depicted in the synopsis). Not many are this upfront about their transmigration and reason around their said-target. This misunderstanding helped further strengthen the couple's bonds.

The true villains:
The true nature of demons has been briefed to us but the whole idea of an entire race being inherently evil here is rather subjective.
It was the celestial beings that were more powerful and oppressive, sealing the demons away. They made the gods face their own desires and evil, meaning the gods were also flawed in a sense.
This is another aspect which makes this psychological novel great, making perfect beings face their own imperfections and not simply set two camps and have those two fight it out. I really would've loved to see more about the demonic races, having just finished 'Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know' and it's concept of equilibrium.

again I am writing a more negative review, because I find it easier to point out aspects I dislike in novels rather than those I like. My focus when I read romance BL is the romance and the two main characters, MC and ML. In this aspect I find this novel disappointing. I honestly expected much more considering the ratings.

The major reason for my rating is the dynamic between MC and ML. Which to me is described entirely by tropes, that are used a lot. Tropes aren't inherently bad, I... more>> mean everyone has some they like and some they dislike. But they are lazy writing, although as an author you can interpret them innovatively or subvert them, which the author sadly doesn't do.

The tropes:

    • MC is a genius, which means he is academically good and smart, but that inevitably makes him socially inept and puts his EQ at a minus score. At the same time though the ML has to always be better than the MC, so the ML is not only even smarter than the MC, but he is also socially really talented with a high EQ.
    • MC has no romantic or s*xual or otherwise positive feelings toward the ML, so the author has to create a reason for MC to repeatedly contact ML (aka the system task). So MC helps ML for himself essentially without any feelings. ML is insecure about MC being so nice toward him, because he realizes that MC doesn't have any feelings toward him nor reason to help him. So ML idolizes MC as being a selfless angel.
    • ML has a dark past, so he needs healing from the MC. During this healing ML discoveres and develops a possesivenes and s*xual desire for MC. But -oh no- MC is sooo pure and innocent (ML and the author join hands at infantilizing MC), he doesn't know anything about s*x and desire. The entire relationship between the two develops from pure s*xual and possesive desire from the ML (no romance). But ML has to "hold back" (apparently so he doesn't attack and s*xual abuse the MC? It's described in extreme detail everytime), because he can't "defile" MC with his desire.

Too beautiful. This novel tells the tale of an unrelenting love. I'm still crying and whenever I look back at the story I read, I will continue to cry.

Their love runs so deep and is filled with a lot of emotions. It is so sweet, but also so very bitter. The way the author wrote the story is very enchanting. The MC and ML been through a lot. They loved but there are always doubt. It was a love that was so imperfect, to the point of perfection. The author... more>> depicted the human emotions so wonderfully...

Surely, their love is one of the most beautiful thing I have read. Insecurities led them to their countless suffering, but MC tried his hardest and never gave up. The ML did well for not giving up either. Then, they overcame the one thing that brought them down.

Finally, they found happiness after a long, long battle.

This story has a lot of dark things, but it made the beautiful things even more vivid. The author did an absolutely wonderful job. <<less

My favorite story, and I can't describe how much I love it. Everything about it is perfect. MC, ML, side characters, everyone is so multi-dimensional. I can't even say whom I love more. Song Qingshi, probably. I love everything about his personality. The plot is amazing. Every new revelation broke my heart. Even the last chapter made me cry, thanks God there are extras. This novel is really unique and the one I will surely re-read.

I love it. I love it. I love it. Important things have to be said thrice.

It was painful, it made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me die inside. But, I love this book so so much. I feel empty now that I've finished it. I would suggest reading everything to understand. I wish there was more. MC at first comes of as naïve and oblivious but yes although he is, his character is so much more than that. And he's basically so so precious. The ML is... more>> also wonderfully written. His behaviour and tendencies are not just brushed off, instead they're properly explained by the end of the novel. I love this book so much. I didn't expect to love it this much. I was hesitant to read it because of the pain ML goes through but... it was all worth it.

ALSO. Please. Do not leave the novel halfway. The author knows what she's doing. <<less

Note to self: Don't reread.

I remember trying to read this twice before when it wasn't complete. I dropped it the first time because I really hated what happened to ML. Forgot about it. Picked it up a second time, not realizing I had already dropped it because I reached a certain point that made me go "waiiiit a minute I've read this before"

Went on reading it before dropping it again because of certain things happening in the plot.

Came across this once it was completed and read it and fell in... more>> awe again with the translations and story flow and writing.

Ungil I really couldn't take it anymore and skipped to the end. I do not like this book but maybe it's because it's just not for me. But I can't give it a low rating for it because I recognize that it's such a good story, it's just that I couldn't take the amount of character whump. It has a sweet ending I guess. First, this novel deserve a 4.5 and HIGHER. 💓 Second, those who rated this novel 4 and below without even reading the WHOLE story is.. UGH! I mean, realllllyyyy!?!?!? I don't think you have the right to rate this at all. You have to read the entire story in order to understand why things happen.

Third, Song Qingshi is not dumb, I repeat he's NOT dumb. There's a reason for him being like that which I am not gonna spoil. So people calling him dumb and other names.. Lol. Seriously, are we... more>> reading the same novel? Ahhhhh! You're on chapter what? 1? 39? 40? 53? Oh please *eye roll*

Fourth, the plot twists are really good and interesting, so please don't drop it, don't give up!!!! Finish until the end.

Fifth, this is one of the most satisfying ending I've ever read. So please give this a chance. You will laugh, cry and heal with the characters. This is HIGHLY recommended! <<less

Seriously such a great and underrated read! It was such an enjoyable experience that I had to make an account to leave this review!

First off, listen to all the positive reviews that were left in this story! This is a story that you have to read from beginning to end. NOTHING IS A COINCIDENCE!! If you think there's a plot hole or details that won't matter later... it will. The author has a really clever way to intricately tie things from the past to the present. It's a very rewarding... more>> novel to read and the ending (although I did wish for a longer epilogue) was satisfying. Don't judge a book by its cover, this novel might start of a little cliche with common transmigration/wuxia tropes, but it's got a lot more layers to it trust me.

This is a novel that deals with heavy topics so pay attention to the tags (the r*pe is not between the couple). I would say this series is almost on the same angst and trigger level of 2ha, so please be mindful before going in and don't expect all sunshine and rainbows. It'll be quite a painful journey with a lot of heart ache, but there is a happy ending that is worth it! MC is the definition of unconditional love and it was so impactful that my eyes watered a bit ngl.

Another great thing is the amount of self-awareness the author has. A lot of common BL and transmigration tropes get addressed later on in the story. The characters also have strong development too and actually recognize their own faults and learn to confront them. The author did their research on mental psychology and trauma and once it gets explained as the story progresses, the actions and thoughts of the characters will begin to make a lot of sense.

This is definitely a story for a more mature audience level. If you're expecting a guilty pleasure, relaxing type of read with lots of snu snu, then you might want to hold off on this novel for now. However, if you're down for the ride, prepare your heart and mind. If you're a 2ha survivor like me, this is probably going to give you war flashbacks.

Also... Song Qingshi is baby. I will not accept any slander on his character. He's probably one of the most interesting MC i've come across and his storyline just keeps getting better towards the very end. He isn't going to be your Mary Sue that gets things right from the get go. He has flaws and there are times you might get frustrated with him, but it's what makes him a very unique, lovable, and admirable character. You can't help but want to root for him and the ML to find happiness. All the side characters are great as well and very memorable and get good endings for the most part.

10/10 for me and definitely going on my list of all time favorites. It's something I can't wait to reread in the future! <<less

A male yandere that won't hurt, imprison or coerce!

Low EQ High IQ naïve (?) never ever ever giving up MC!

Oh boy... I liked I liked I liked.

At first the tags put me off but months passed by and I just glanced at the title and started reading, I forgot about the tags. There's no explicit description of any sort, so I particularly found everything bearable, the authors writing or the translation also is not the type that try to force out the feelings of the readers so even though I... more>> am aware of the things that happened with the ML and others characters I didn't feel much angst.

The MC way of thinking is a little unusual, the ML has psychological problems, this is an unusual, a little mysterious, very well ended healing story.

This novel is something else. I dare say it is one of the finest and most emotionally tormenting healing novels I've ever read to date.

The story is interesting and fun—the kind of fun that always keeps you on edge, knowing that the storm is coming, despite everyone laughing rainbow and sunshine.

Haha, I've lost count of how many times I've cried over it. When the characters are sad, I cry. When they're happy, I still cry. I was so depressed, but I still couldn't help but love it. At one point,... more>> I didn't even care about the writing style, the plot, or the pacing. I just want to silently read and pray for everyone to be happy, and it's fortunate that it has a happy ending (not that the story is lacking in those aspects, it's just that my emotions prevailed 😢).

Please, someone help me send the best male lead-abusing novel award to the author. He or she deserves it.

I can see why some readers might not be thrilled with the MC at first, though. In any case, he starts off seeming like a typical innocent white lotus; looking pure, dense, and clueless. But trust me, he's not. Don't look at him being an angel on normal days; in fact, he is one of the most intimidating entities in the story and can actually kill without even blinking an eye. His character is the most interesting, and his growth is the best among all the characters present.

Watching him persistently choose the ML, even though he is the wrong choice, really tugs at my heartstrings. I was so heartbroken. That's real love right there. 😭

Right, my advice if you are going to read this novel is to please read it until the end*.

The story was intricately and meticulously woven. Every bit of foreshadowing and all the small, seemingly insignificant actions in this novel are there for a reason. Together with the small details the author has put in along the way, you can tell the author poured a lot of thought and effort into it, and I'm super appreciative of that.

And although the possibility is almost zero, I still want to read more about the kid who went off to learn craftsmanship and his friends in the medicinal village. Their relationships are really pure and sweet. I wish them all a successful, happy, long life! 🥲 <<less

First of all, the translation was fabulous!

Second of all, I was discouraged reading the novel when I saw a review describing the MC as a useless boi but then I gave it a try, and all of the sudden I fell in love with the MC's character!

Moving on...

ML has yandere tendencies but trust me. He never does anything to hurt MC.

This novel make me empty an entire tissue box, I cried a lot.

and please read the whole thing to understand why Song Qingshi has -999 EQ

But there are some parts of it that I don't agree with and feel frankly disgusted by. This is not about only this story in particular, but most BL. Just in this story, after they had discussed and analyzed how s*xual relationships are painful for the "receiver" they still went on and did it.

Unfortunately when two men decide to have s*xual relationships that involve penetration s*x one of the two will suffer (the exact grade of suffering will change depending on various factors, but they will still feel pain). This is certainly frustrating I imagine, but it can be circumvented by using different ways to have s*xual relationships. Of course, if they both decide that they want penetrative s*x then they should have that choice too and there is nothing wrong with this.

What makes me angry, disgusted and scared is that in this kind of stories (every asian BL I have ever read or heard of and good part of western too) the two halves of the couple have very clear and specified roles. They never change their ways, the one who has to suffer will always suffer and the other one won't even think that this is wrong, they never even ask to switch.

When I say that this makes me scared I mean that after reading of the ML waiting 3000 years for the one he loves he still happily chooses to ignore his pain in bedroom matters. If this is love then how can he stand seeing the one he loves hurting and he himself the cause of his pain and DO NOTHING?

Ok, the ML is traumatized, it is completely understandable that he doesn't want to "receive" anymore. But even knowing that the gentlest of handling still results in lacerations (and Qingshi clearly stated he had some lacerations) he still caves pretty soon and does it anyway. And proceeds to continue doing so. Without ever switching.

I will say this again, the ML was traumatized and he couldn't bear being the receiver. Ok. But if he never had to do it again then why did the original protagonist of the story Bai something have to keep doing that?

Protagonist Bai had been r*ped and traumatized at a lesser degree than the ML, but damn, he was mentally scarred when he was freed! His self worth was dead decomposing in a ditch. And since he isn't the ML the one who is supposed to be his soulmate, the peacock, still made him the receiver in every single one of their encounters! He clearly stated that it was painful and the other kept wanting to try again saying that it would get better with practice! After all he had been through!

Why did he have to keep doing this and the ML no?!

Did they never hear of switching? Or respect?!

Is this love? I really hope not. I want to believe that love is when you would never hurt the other and the other would be the same. If someone has to suffer then they will together.

Sorry for the rant. This is a good story compared to many others so I gave it the 5 stars, but it broke my heart that after analyzing so much the situation, the power imbalance in the relationships and how the receiver has to feel pain they went just over it and kept the status quo of every other asian BL I have ever read. This can't be what love is.

*For who says that Quingshi didn't feel pain: he said after the first time that it didn't hurt as much as he expected, he also clearly stated that he had lacerations. This was said by someone who worked and behaved perfectly fine while his Nascent soul was breaking. Nobody ever even saw a shadow of his pain, this doesn't mean that there wasn't.
