The aristocratic Lu family has produced a joke, a beautiful one, but a joke nonetheless. The daughter they have been rearing all this while turns out to be an imposter! With the real heiress returning to take her rightful place, everyone is eager to know the outcome of the imposter…

Will she be able to survive in poverty after living a life of riches?

Having just transmigrated, Huo Yao imagines that this experience will be pretty interesting. However, imagination and reality are always so different!

Dad: “Daughter! Take this black card. It has no limit! Use it freely.”

Mom: “My dear Yao Yao! If you don’t like this jewelry, I’ll get them to change it immediately.”

Huo Yao: “…”

Weren’t they supposed to be poor and ordinary? What is with this hidden lavish behavior?

Her eldest brother, an investment company’s CEO: “Sis, inherit my company!”

Her second brother, a top lawyer: “Whoever dares slander my sis will face the full brunt of the law!”

The third brother, an international genius doctor: “Bullying my sister? Should I display the prowess of my scalpel?”

Mysterious fourth brother: “My sis is the cutest!”

Huo Yao: “…”

What happened to being a good-for-nothing person who lives off her parents?

A top aristocrat secretly changes into his cheap clothes and drives his crappy old car to her. “Baby, my heart is yours. Why don’t we get married to test if I’m telling the truth or not?”

Everyone who knows about it, doesn’t dare say it out loud.

All they can do is curse inwardly: “Bah! Keep acting! No one believes it!”

The MC is a complete money grubbing loser floormat.

Supposedly she cares about her adoptive grandma, but she lets her evil adoptive Lu family sister and the rest of their family continually harass the grandma.

Countless times people mock her and she doesn’t care, but there’s a point where the author has to continually lie to the reader that MC is really great.

Sure, the MC is a genius pharmacist, alchemist, hacker, super thief, perfect scores in everything but Chinese, but her character is a passive weirdo who can be easily bribed by... more>> money lol.

Both families are the literal worst, continually lying to her, looking down on her, and no one likes to honestly talk.

China’s #1 academic school has a pompous moron in charge of their elite class, a greedy and s*upid vp, and a slow principal who could care less about MC being bullied repeatedly.

The ML Min Yu is a decent individual and one of Mc’s patients, but his grandfather gets away with comedically harassing the MC.

MC tends to act like a mentally deficient person whenever author wants comedic effects, like MC not believing her family has money etc.

The most annoying part of this novel is the MC continually whining about stuff yet never doing anything about it.

There’s a difference between being cool and indifferent, and by being a weak loser rubbed into the ground by everyone. <<less

I MTL-ed this novel. This shows how good it was. A real hidden gem. Comedy gold for me. A must-read!

Now lemme start with the review. *Cough cough*

Just as the description says, they switched daughters and MC's OG family was supposedly poor meanwhile her "adopted" family rich. Oh boy were they wroooong.

This is a major spoiler that explains the reason for many events. So don't click unless you want to.

Spoiler

You rebel.

You sure?

Ok then. The adopted daughter of the Huo family originally didn't care about her old family because they were poor. But now she cares for them and exploits the trust that Ol' One gave her because she's a regressor and knows they're filthy rich. That's right. She came from the future, a not so bright one where she's poor.

[collapse]

MC is great. G R E A T.

I love her swagger lol. She's the guardian of her family in the shadows. She's the kind of girl your relatives compare you to, but you can't get mad because the difference is just too big.

There aren't many "serious" misunderstandings, but there's that hilarious misunderstanding of MC thinking that her family is poor so she has to save money for them. Moreover, the Huo's company accountants looked like loan sharks, so now she also thinks they are in debt lololol.

However, every meeting with a new family member ends with them gifting her a fat red-packed. She indeed has some doubts, but she waits for her parents to admit the truth themselves.

The brothers, what can I say about them? That I love them all. They all precious beans. Apart from ol' One. He still in his redemption arc. Ol' Two, on the other hand, is the kind of lovely sis-con who messes things up for everyone. Ol' Three is a precious bean who needs hugs. Ol' (Little) Four is by far my favorite. We must protect the Little Princess.

Now let's talk about ML. He's a very cute ML in my opinion. Not too shameless, but definitely not a mild boy either. He's one of the first ML I see scared of the FL and her "physician's ways". But to be fair, everyone is scared of MC's "why-you-didn't-take-my-medicine-now-I'm-disappointed" stare. Basically, it's a slow tale of ML's subordinates' transition from his subordinates to her's. And now, ML be feeling like FL lolololol.

__

One of my favorite scenes.
Spoiler

Mama Huo: "Our daughter is a miracle doctor all along?!"

MC: *uses uno reverse card* I haven't seen our company's accountants that a I have previously mistaken for loan sharks in a while.

*CRITICAL HIT*

This story is one that is frustrating and interesting at the same time.

The MC is brilliant and has many talents, she also seems to know what people are thinking when they look at her. However, at the same time, she is also oblivious to how some people think of her and doesn't seem to be bothered by their thoughts or inclined to correct them. She flips between aware and blind at the drop of a hat. Her family keep talking about how they should trust her, listen to her, not... more>> believe rumours, etc. And yet, they never bother to actually talk to her about anything. Everyone is going around with these thoughts about eachother, then discussing how they are wrong, then they delude themselves into thinking that their actions based on the made up narratives aren't damaging.

This book is one that I want to read, but every chapter, I just want to shake atleast 1 of the characters. I don't know if I will be able to continue reading because of that. An occassional annoyance is part of the reading experience, but when you consistently want to ask, "why?" Or tell a character to "just say something already!" You have to wonder if it is worth it.

This isn't a story that if you battle through, you will find ecstatic beauty or heartfelt bonding or soothing reevalutions. So, if you aren't going to get something out of it, whether is relief, joy, knowledge or escapism. Is there a point in reading?

There is so much development, that is can't be a fluff piece or a casual time wasting story. But the characters are vaguely irritating in a way that you can't fully submerge into the story.

It's not a bad book. It's just one that by chapter 50, you will be able to tell if you can keep going or if the payoff isn't worth the annoyance.

If I was friends with any of these characters, I would literally tell them to talk! So much can be fixed by it. And it's not even the misunderstanding that are commonly used to create drama in a story. It's basic stuff. How was your day at school? What do like to wear? What is your favourite colour! Come on. It's your long lost daughter/sister and you have no frickin questions? <<less

This is one of the most boring stories I ever encountered, the pace is extremely slow, 45 chapters is spent on 2 days of nothingness. She went took a plan to the city, and the next day she went to school to enroll, that's basically it.

The MC though has a cool personality which was the reason that kept me waiting, but she's extremely boring because to be honest, the author hardly ever explain what's in her mind, she's emotionless, not confrontational, and we don't know damn about her background aside... more>> that she transmigrated into the host, nor do we know a damn thing about her plans and ambitions, witch really is a bizarre choice from the author, I even wonder how I was able to read 45 chapters, I think it was my curiosity to know somethings the things the author kept hiding.

There is also a lot of annoying parts, most of characters are fast to jump into conclusion and keep to themselves or act on their misunderstanding without asking the MC. I also hate that the ML get involved so soon, with the MC has medicinal skills saved the ML in the most unlikely places (ML god but somehow he's her neighbor in the village), cliché aside, the first obstacle the MC faced got immediately resolved by ML, witch really isn't a good sign for me. <<less

If you are into novel with genius female protagonist then this is a must read... at first it just drops the story from nowhere leaving you confused... then it starts hinting what is going to come... as a result when a plot twist comes, it doesn't seem forced but still make you speechless...a lot of plot might seems forced and full of plot holes.... but the deeper you go in story the more everything starts to make sense

what I love most here is the relationship of ML and FL... they never confessed yet but they know they love each other... and started dating (not rly since they always hang out together for a long time already) without even confessing... they trust each other and also respect each of their secrets..... their relationship doesnt seems forced but looks like it was inevitable that they would fall for other one naturally.... both are the most talented in the world easily (as you would expect)... but other major characters are so well written that ML and FL still can't overshine other characters although they are the best already....

I thought I was tired of the usual tropes but when somewhat talk about doting siblings, I come running.

And while I am very very annoyed with the ori!daughter, I LOVE this book. MC is super cool, super seductive and she makes everyone blush. Her parents are cute, they sometimes act like big toddlers. Three of her brothers are great and the fourth one is a big too judgmental for my taste but I understand where he comes from.

BUT THE BEST IS THE FOURTH BROTHER. The princess of the family and... more>> MC interaction are great. But really, I love her with her whole family (even the idiot brother). I don't care about ML, I want more family fluff!!!!

About ori!daughter

Spoiler

I felt genuinely bad for her at first as it looked like her foster family was somewhat cutting ties with her and her new mother was the worst character in the entire story.

But as the story goes on, we learn more and more about her and get glimpses of her thoughts

Spoiler

ori!daughter is reborn but she was reborn after returning to her biological family.

in her first life, she cuts ties herself with her foster family because she believed they were poor and her biological family was considered very wealthy. But as her life went on, her biological family lost everything and she realized that her foster family was actually ridiculously rich.

This time, she wants a safety net and complains she was reborn too late. It's kind of ironic that she got a new life but too late for the easiest path. And because she wants to get her safety net, she tries to get closer to her foster family again but most of them are kind of disappointed she just left them without another thought at first.

Now she is stuck with a hateful family and she tries to compete with MC that is obviously better than her but low key. Rebirth failed.

This novel is gem, a must read novel. this novel mostly revolves around MC and her family. There's not much romance, the MC recieves the ML as her patient while the ML tries to woo her. The most funny thing is that the MC is a money grabber. And the brothers... ohh, I need them in my life they are siscons especially the fourth brother who's basically a little princess (that's what his fans call him) he claims that he is a cool boy but everyone knows he is... more>> just a clumsie cutie

One of my favorite scene where MC goes with her fourth brother (little princess) to a reality show. They are given 20 yuan to spend and make their own food

Spoiler

brother goes to the old aunt to buy veggies

Aunt : 2 pairs for 2 yuan each (i.e. 4 yuan)

Bro : how about 3 pairs for 4 yuan ??[

Aunt : no

Bro : then how about 2 pairs for 4 yuan ??

Aunt : 😑 * does this kid even know elementary maths ?

MC :😶 (facepalms) that's not my brother

Dad and mom watching live broadcast :. * That's not our son

MC : little princess I have an important job, go check the live broadcast while I purchase the veggies

Bro checks the broadcast, , realizes his mistake and 😱😱

Fans : little princess just go lie down our domineering sister is here to take care of everything

😂😂😂😂😂

I have a love/hate relationship with this novel. On one hand, the storyline is good and has the potential to be even greater. However, it's the characters, including the main character Huo Yao that irritates the crap out of me.

Spoiler

@7starkiller9 wrote a review that was definitely accurate. The FL is too passive unless money is involved and most people are dishonest. How are you a genius that excels in multiple areas but find yourself unable to figure out that your parents are wealthy instead of average like the way they portray? How is it that you love your grandmother (adopted) and yet you allow her to be harassed by her ungrateful daughter/son-in-law and looked down upon by her granddaughter??

The FL simply accepts whatever people do to her until she has no choice but to do anything. I'm nearing the 1000 chapter and she has kept most everything about her a secret, doing what needs to be done in private. It is frustrating, to say the least.

On top of that, I find it frustrating that the FL's parents are hiding the fact that they are wealthy from her, while still at times commenting over the fact that the FL is unaware because THEY were too lowkey *scratches head bish what?? 😧* That's just acting brand new. The child be so unaware if you didn't do extra to keep secrets.

[collapse]

I'm just not getting why everyone needs to keep secrets and exert so much effort to hide the truth.

Other than that, I know I just ranted for an extended time 😂 but I still would recommend for people to read this novel. Personally, I'm going to wait until it's finished before I resume reading but it's good material to check out, faults aside. <<less

This story is sooooo good! We have the MC who just wants to live quietly but there is always some one who jumps out to try and humiliate her to satisfy their personal vanities and selfish ideas.

Spoiler

for example, the nasty Lu Xia, originally swapped with the MC, and grew up in the Huo family is still not satisfied with her lot and kept discrediting MC everywhere. If you read this, you'll learn to loathe the eldest brother for his infatuated love for the disgusting Lu Xia.

[collapse]

The MC is a total genius who tries to hide this by being "low key" in front of her family and friends but she inevitably gets revealed layer by layer particularly in front of the ML. The ML is adorable bc he is always there to support the MC as he persistently but quietly makes his pursuit of the her. It's a very slow burn romance but the ML & MC interactions are never boring. The MC's second, third and fourth brothers are also totally adorable as they compete for their sister's attention and care. Plus, the other supporting family (not the bullies) and friends are just absolutely hilarious. The storytelling style is really good, and this is still apparent in the MTL version! Often, there is often a sense of mystery and excitement as you can't wait to find out what happens next. Best of all, there are many characters (who are essentially bullies) that are eventually subjected to lot of faceslapping (that they totally deserved) and this simply makes this novel a really satisfying fun read! I can hardly wait until the next chapter is posted! Note that this is suitable for MTL. Very easy to read and highly recommended!

Spoiler

The bullies like Lu Xia get their just desserts but the current nastiest rubbish is her own maternal aunt, Song Qi, who had bullied the MC's mum and now her. If there was anyone who deserved to die, it is Song Qi.

This just incredible fun. The summary though reads like it's written for another book.

Corrections

Huo Yao: Originally Lu Yao, MC was the fake daughter of the wealthy Lu family but was not living in luxury at all. Her fake family did not treat her at all well and sent her off to the countryside to live with her fake maternal grandmother. Who was also neglected by the Lu family.

Lu Xia: Originally Huo Xia, was treated quite well by the Huo's and had what could be considered an upper middle class life... more>> before being taken back by the Lu family

MC's relationship with her host's biological family develops over time.

The garbage summary is the only thing not to like about this novel. It's had me laughing, chuckling and smiling since I started it. In a strange way it's Ruthless People meet the three stooges

For this genre of story, you have to reassess your evaluation criteria. And if you do so, this isn't - or rather, wasn't - half bad. It was a little frustrating that the FL's identities weren't uncovered after so long, but whatever. No, the main reason I dropped this was because

Spoiler

I skim-read the latest mtl chapters and it seems like the FL was sent to the past by her master and there's some grand scheme in place which is unavoidable because of space-time-continuum-whatever

[collapse]

There we were, with lots of nice, satisfying mysteries chugging along - the FL seemed to be involved in a criminal gang and robbed the ML in the past, she was avoiding a group of medicine people because *reasons* etc. Etc. - And then WHAM! Straight in the face with an explanation that goes waaaaay beyond just "the white lotus step sister also reincarnated". It just didn't fit the tone for me and was a complete let-down. And quite frankly, I just can't be bothered to read knowing that that is where it's going.

Side-note: I always took her "not figuring out" things about her family etc. As her not being bothered/not caring, rather than a lack of intelligence. Like, sure, she could devote her brain power to figuring out why her family is not poor but she just can't be bothered. <<less

It starts out kind of interesting, with an OP MC who knows all the typical skills a female MC is good at in a Chinese transmigration novel. Her new family is kind of cute, her brothers are nice to her and have cute interactions with her. Unfortunately, author cannot keep the characters consistent, or the plot at times.

Spoiler

With no warning at all, main villain is suddenly a reincarnator at around chapter 200, maybe because it's needed for a scheme 100 chapters later.

[collapse]

MC is smart and yet clueless about very obvious stuff like things involving her family, capable and good at talking yet totally unable to resolve a miscommunication by just opening her mouth, protective of her family except when it's her grandma who almost dies from her non intervention, not allowing anyone to bully her except when it's an old man who happens to be important later on (who's also probably one of the most irritating characters I've ever read), etc.

Spoiler

The old man tries to blackmail her and she even brings him to a hospital, forces his way into her house and fools her parents into thinking he's her grandfather, and acts like a major entitled d*ck and she just lets him live in her house and even brings him dinner. Of course he ends up being the grandfather of the ML, how convenient that she didn't just throw him out like any normal person, much less a super capable MC who only bullies others and never gets bullied.

[collapse]

Generally, her characteristics change slightly to greatly based on how the plot needs her to be. The only thing consistent is just how capable she is.

The story and interactions can be cute and interesting, and the translation is good. The only issue is the fluctuating MC, and how everything can change to suit the plot. The irritating old man is just a bonus. <<less

Okay I'm gonna be honest here, the MC is your run of the mill cold blooded super genious that knows everything but it's too lazy and never discloses how good she is so people always thinks she's dumb or something, the MC hasn't had much screentime but so far he's the typical super rich dude that is a hidden boss and never shows a smile unless he's with MC and then everyone is like :O

ANYWAYS! I'm writing the review because I need to talk about THE BROTHERS!! They are the... more>> soul of this novel! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH (except for 1st bro cause he was dumb at first and disregarded the MC for such a petty reason) my favorite has to be 4th brother, he's such a cinnamon roll, too good for this world too pure. Her parents are so funny and loving and the way they bully the sons is just so funny...I love the whole Hou family, they're the only thing that keeps me reading this run of the mill OP MC novel! <<less

Eh, the demographic for this is young teenage girls (~14). I wanted to read some face slapping golden finger school life tr*sh as escapism, some cringe is alright but this... I mean, I get that the target audience is different. The FL is the typical FL in LNs targeted for young teens; cold and calm, flawless, multi talented, etc. (the typical FL that makes girls go "ah!! she's so cool, I love a powerful MC! as expected of our MC"). I guess you can tell that after the third paragraph.

It... more>> wasn't particularly funny but some scenes did make me grin. I only read 380 chapters because I was feeling quite anxious and I wanted a distraction. The story is a bit annoying, the author hides some stuff but it doesn't come off as mysterious, whenever stuff is revealed it doesn't feel like a plot twist or a huge reveal, it's underwhelming, it just made me want to roll my eyes. It's as if the author were trying hard to turn this into an interesting and deep story with plot twists but it doesn't get the expected result, plus it's quite inconsistent.
Spoiler

Like suddenly Lu Xia was reborn and sure, it made sense, there was some "foreshadowing" before like when she knew of her adoptive parents background, but it just wasn't consistent with her behavior, through the beginning of the story she didn't even behave like a reborn person and wasn't weirded out by the change of the MC's personality, come onnnnn. I get she's just cannon fodder but you can't just lower the villain's IQ whenever it's convenient. The conflicts were resolved easily bc everyone was dumb and the MC was overpowered but it was still a frustrating read.

[collapse]

I guess if you like omnipotent MCs then go ahead and read this, I also wanted to read about an OP MC but this... her talents keep popping out of nowhere for no reason, she only has 1 weakness which is the language class. Just reveal your cards since the beginning, if they keep popping out through the story it just feels very forced. At least system novels are more fun even if they have the same skills because at least you see how they got that skill, but this is just a "mysterious" flawless MC. It doesn't feel mysterious though, just messy. Oh, it's also a bit of a frustrating read, but I guess that's because it's a bit messy, as if the author couldn't multi task and just dragged out the story. (i.e: MC wanting to ask someone something, something comes up and instead of sending the message she was about to send she leaves and forgets about it) <<less

It’s a book still ongoing so I won’t say much but I really love this. Yes, the FL is mary sue, but nothing can make me hate her as of now. There’s a loving family, doting elder silblings and she equally loves them too, so in family aspects I really love this novel. The FL has unprecedented medical skills, with many secret identities that are uncovered slowly and when her family learns about- their reactions are quite hilarious. Her interaction with her brother’s are absolutely adorable yet hilarious. And omg,... more>> don’t lemme get started with her parents acting like they’re poor and her treating her parents subordinates as loan sharks. LOL! That was the driven point for me I died in laughter, there’s a lot of funny elements, it’s not exactly heavy on the villainous plot as new enemies keep emerging with every arc, no one is consistent. There’s a lot of mystery element too, where I’m patiently waiting in a bed of thorns to uncover the secrets. And ya the ML is not bad, he’s described as cold but not to the point he treats everyone in disdain. In my pov he’s pretty warm as how his subordinates calls him brother instead of boss and shivering like a leaf. He’s human and treats everyone nicely, especially cunning infront FL brothers. <<less

It's a funny, interesting story about a very adorable family and a bad a$$ female character with a very patient and caring boyfriend. His patience lasts a whole thousand chapters, that is how patient that man is! We all should learn from him, I guess... She is talented and does a lot of good, however, a lot of her behaviors make my brows rise, because morally speaking they are very questionable, at least from my point of view.

Spoiler

She hacks for the purpose of stealing goods, she steals while making sure that no one steals from her, she invades people's privacy in other ways, like secretly examining and diagnosing someone she barely knows (4th Bro) even though they clearly want to hide their illness from everyone, she administers risky medical treatment to people without their or their family explicit consent (God complex, doctors of old era were famous for it, when she treats her deskmate's father). Basically she imposes herself. Not good.

But most of all, what irks me most, is her unfair participation in the contest for the high schoolers, all the way up to the international level, where she wins the first place for her country. Her high school teachers underlined to her that it has to be fair, for example she cannot use methods of advanced physics to solve physics problems, she must use the high school level methods. The contest is for the real 17 year olds, for teenagers who lived only once for 17 years and worked hard to accumulate knowledge and problem solving skills in that time. Highschoolers are being tested, while she had a several times worth amount of knowledge and learning skills accumulated in her previous life (or lives). It is not disclosed so far that she lived before only once and died at 17, more like it is hinted that she lived both in ancient times when she learned calligraphy/painting/traditional Chinese medicine and in modern China as a hacker/thief/dark Web netizen/pharmacist prior to transmigrating to another modern Chinese body. Thus she cheated. She shouldn't have participated in those competitions for the highschoolers. It is not a fair win and she took away someone else's first place and right to be a student of a great university, or their country to be a winner in the international competition. A once in a lifetime chance for those teenagers.

The same could be said about her winning the first place and $100, 000 prize in the Oral English competition. She hasn't learned perfect English with standard pronunciation in her 7 months after transmigration into a country bumpkin's body, nor her body's previous owner could have learned it in a Chinese village school prior to her taking over the body. This kind of cheating is just not right and it is unnecessary, given how much money and self-esteem and unconditional love of her family she already has received. Yeah she made her school and her country proud, but those were not fair wins. Nothing to be proud of.

The plot doesn't seem to be the best, but I really like how the author writes. The characters are distinct and alive. Although they utilize generic tropes, they felt entertaining and 3d enough that I actually found myself wishing for more updates on their lives.

Around c1200 or so, there was no longer any faceslapping, and the novel became serious. I picked up this novel because I wanted some lighthearted almost brainless but not quite faceslapping, which you have to admit is what the blurb and setting scream, but although there... more>> were some signs of foreshadowing, I think the author changed their mind on the overall plot direction and I feel like it's a totally different story now. How I wish they'd just ended this story, even prematurely, and started another one. <<less
