It's not bad but not that good either. The plot is very straightforward (different scenes but same plot structure). The female lead is constantly framed by others throughout the story, only for them to fail miserably because of the FL's op characteristics. In the beginning, it was satisfying to read but the villains are too s*upid and made many questionable and dumb decisions that lead to their demise. I was hoping for the villains to have a better built backstory and characteristics. Literally..

Seeing that they are relatives of the queen and living in a Prime Minister household, you would thought they have at least the making of a noble and have smarter tactics. But no, they just look like 3rd rate villains from a low ranking family with cheap tricks. Constantly framing the FL without a second to breathe, their accusations does not even sound genuine.

Regarding the Male Lead...

I am at Chapter 112, the story made him look mysterious with many different faces. (He was using his subordinate's face to disguise his persona as the Xiao family's adopted son and at one point acted as a person from the Mo family's household) He seems to be very humorous and OP but there was no actual dogblood drama happening to him yet. Now, I am very dissatisfied with his decision to help Xiao Huanxi, who was suffering from poison she inflicted on herself to yet again- frame the FL. At the point, the story don't made him look OP anymore as the reason why he helped her is probably to continue gaining support from the Xiao family to obtain his revenge on the royal family.

The most heartless person who has actual blood of kin to the FL in the family. When the FL is young, she was suspected to not be his biological daughter and was almost strangled to death by him (according to the Zhao Stepmother). It was later revealed she is his biological child. On many occasions, he also shows blatant favoritism towards Lingxi (believing her lies about FL when framing her, causing the FL to be in imminent danger if not for the fact that she manages to expose the lies).

Absolutely brainless. FL manages to create a cure for the pandemic and became a favourite of the Emperor (also due to his history with the FL's mother). FL was given the title of "Emperor's daughter" and the emperor punish the Shen family for their wrongdoings towards the FL. But Zhao & Xiao family still have the b*lls to persecute and frame her?? Is the title for show? In the previous scene when the Feng Grandmother (who was the grandmother of Zhao stepmother) tried to physically punish the FL, she accidentally broke a cup which was a present given by the emperor and 2nd prince. She stopped her punishments immediately, afraid of the repercussions. And now, they are suddenly not afraid??

I had high hopes that the FL and the 2nd prince can become allies and she will help him gain the throne. But no, he had to be one of the most annoying and lecherous men chasing and harrassing the FL, even after she rejected him with disgust. He also killed (?) his main wife to ensure the FL can become his concubine without obstacles. The wife was on her dying breath due to the long term poison effects caused by other women in his harem and YET, her mother blame the FL once she passed away. Does this make sense anymore?

ALL HAIL SHEN NINGHUA!!!

If you are a fan of palace struggle dramas and you loved Shen Miao of Malicious Empress and haven't quite found something comparable, stop right here you are in the right place. Everything about this book is perfect. There is no dull moment and my girl Shen Ninghua always has a trick up her sleeve.

What I really love about her is that she is actually merciful. She didn't immediately try to kill her sister who took her husband and position as empress in the last life but... more>> instead initially got her demoted into a commoner. But the sister who was just too bitter seeing Ninghua succeed didn't give up and ended up in a very bad state eventually.

The ML? I love him. A hidden tiger. He is not the typical cold ML. He is also very scheming and good at martial arts. They are the definition of a power couple. You can tell he really cares for her and wants to protect her even though Ninghua is capable on her own but he never tries to overshadow her. My favourite part was when he was listing how much better he would be as a husband to her and not the other noble males in the country. Ninghua was already into him but she let him sweat a bit. He loves his poisonous scheming wife so much lol.

This is actually completely translated but the rest of the translation is behind a paywall. Ive never MTLed before but this novel was too good to stop reading.

This is my first ever written review and I just had to write it because other reviews made this book seem average when it really is an amazing read. If you love powerful female leads dont waste time! <<less

Another typical Do-Over story, where the heroine died tragically, and now gets to re-live her previous life with all her previous memories. Other than the beginning, her previous knowledge doesn't come into play too much. There are some unbelievable parts like the FL having gone missing for 6 months in the beginning of the story. However, when she returns, she's an expert medical and poison doctor. Other than that, the rest of the story is the same drama of the FL getting revenge for anyone in the past and present... more>> who tries to frame her.

I did get a bit tired of all the various villains that targeted her for barely any reason. It was non-stop villain targeting the FL. No matter what situation, what the FL rank or circumstance, new villains would keep coming up and hating on the FL.

Romance-wise, it was ok. The ML is the more interesting of the couple. The FL seems too be too introverted romantically and a bit dull. Overall, it's nice short and completed story if you're just looking for something to read and not waste any emotional upheavals. Supreme martial arts, or super natural powers don't really play a role. In fact, we never did learn why the FL got her chance for redoing her life. <<less

As many other reviewers mentioned, it's a typical rebirth story.

Pros:

  • Revenge/face-slapping is quite satisfying, the plots her stepmother and half-sister set up for her aren't s*upid so some thought needs to be put in when counteracting. MC, is of course, very clever and well-planned, so she comes out on top almost always.
  • The relationship between the MC and ML is relatively healthy. I know the ML visits her in her boudoir (which is a very typical trope of these novels) but he doesn't ever sexually harass her or anything. They start off as allies and then the ML actively pursues the MC once he realizes his feelings. He's very respectful towards her though!
Cons:

  • Scheming never stops. The MC & ML never get to take a break - not even after they're married. It's just plot after plot against the MC. (As of now, I've temporarily dropped this novel but I may go back to it).
  • The story is quite convoluted.

    For example, ML is revealed to be a son of the emperor. His real mother comes back to court as a consort, but as always, there's more plots against them. Obviously, ML is now fighting for the throne. Other girls get ideas because now ML is a wangye he can take on concubines etc. Etc.. MC's family falls but they're still a nuisance. There's a cousin on the MC's side that shows up too.

    Basically, it's changed from a rebirth revenge story to a political fight for the throne and all the scheming that is involved.

If you are looking for a strong, clever FL who is able to give some face slaps to her enemy, this is a great novel.

Ninghua encounters many plots by her stepmother and half-sister, yet she is able to cautiously plan for it. She is clever and cautious. Even though she does seem a bit OP with having poison skills, she does use it to her benefit.

I am also enjoying how she is not entirely dependent on the male lead. Yes he does sometimes provide his assistance but for the most part, she tells him to watch the show.

Also, their romance slowly blooms. When they first met, she demanded money from him to rescue him. He is intrigued by her strength and abilities in subsequent meetings. I like that he admires her strength but is also willing to lend a helping hand.

yea... very similar to that one story chu wang fei? so many things that don’t make sense to me, she suddenly acquired medical knowledge and be very adept in using poisons after 6 months of missing in the mountains?

the ML coming into her yard (it was disrespectful? but considered romantic ew) what’s the difference between him and the second prince then?

and anyhow she was a daughter of a concubine, and the ML turned out to be a prince in hiding (typical, because in the end the FL and ML must... more>> be the emperor and empress). and don’t get me started on the fact that the ML declared that he would only have the FL as wife, without concubines (not realistic🤮)

I found the story to be interesting at first... but had to drop it because so many things don’t make sense..... she got adopted by the emperor of all people? her mother was supposed to be married to the emperor? she was poisoned and had black skin and suddenly she became pretty etc etc and her appearance was apparently so very beautiful that the author needed to remind us all the time that she was beautiful. ugh

but the translator did a great job!! <<less

I'm a bit exhausted when I read this novel. The FL is good, not so decisive because she doesn't only live for revenge. But ya know for a half years to master being a superb docter is a bit weird 🤔. The ML is interesting, but he has a little bit weak heart and soo passive, especially towards those adopted family of him. His response towards them makes him looks so pathetic.

I thought this novel is about revenges of FL past life, but those villain in FL past life looks... more>> like a clown to me, that's makes me think FL is not really bright in her past life or maybe she's been blinded by love.

What makes me exhausted are; those s*upid villains can't think straight, blindly doing something they want, brainlessly charging towards both Main Lead. Sometimes both main lead plans didn't workout, and they fall into the villain scamming. And also they both too passive thus takes a looong time to deal with the villain. Well that's makes me think they were not so OP to not always blessed by God since they still stumbled a lot to get into the top.

p.s: I don't want to read further anymore, too much drama before the ending, it's too excessive.

May edit this when it's not 3am. It's pretty good for it's genre, and surprisingly very little filler (though it does start feeling repetitive considering it's length. Old genre, old tropes, but the author does make a lot of the events slightly unpredictable even though we get pretty much every romance cliche thrown in here. Liked the FL, ML is pretty cool, things get repetitive- but it does move the plot. There are unrealistic aspects, but seriously- 1. going back in time is hardly a realistic event 2. It's not... more>> as crazy as the "genius" OP characters that are so good they're practically magical about it.

She does have some skills, but some can be explained off as having practiced her last life, and the medical skills.... I imagined this rather like a crash course. Especially if 5 lives (her own (to an extent) and the 4 maids) were hinging on her learning things, and she probably picked up some more knowledge by being sick herself. The author does say her mom left some medical texts, so behind the scenes, we can pretend she's also studying after the 6 months crash course.

Ending was decent, and came as I was expecting, but the actual ending itself was rather abrupt (I know this hardly makes sense- basically you can tell novel was coming to an end, and then the author braked hard). I don't know if I read the right version though, so it might actually be ok. <<less

Phew, after reading this for a week I finally marked this 527-chapters long novel as completed.

This novel has a veeeeery wide scope, from a forest out of nowhere to the neighboring kingdom. It also compiled every single ancient China tricks in the book so this novel felt more like a 'scheme encyclopedia' than anything else.

Props to the author for making the schemes to at least be somewhat logical. MC's attack and defense were great, backed with evidences, clear cause and effect. It's like seeing a gold defense attorney slapping people... more>> to death with her brain. Readers might get tired of the schemes, so as someone who has completed the story, I can assure you that every single things the villains did to the MC was returned with extra serving. If you like a strong, no-nonsense MC with a mean streak a mile wide, this is for you.

I started out being meh with the story, there's nothing special and the ML was one hella annoying stalker. There were too many villains to count and they kept reviving like a zombie tide even after one failed. But this story grew on me as the stakes got higher, and to be honest, everyone likes exaggerated palace drama lol. <<less

its a political court and courtyard focused novel with a bit of romance. I liked both leads, smart brilliant cunning and black bellied. I like their romance it wasn’t sudden and the male lead did the courting properly. There was no r*pe or forced s*x on the FL like in so many c novel and love the ML respect towards FL. The novel had a lot of twists but the plot became repetitive after awhile.

My favorite character was the 2nd male lead, wished he could have a found... more>> a way out of his obsession. The ending was well constructed. <<less

Well.... The translation is good and I'm able to understand the plot buuuut the writing is just so-so..

I can't find myself immerse a lot with the plot at all... Everything is felt like just a usual reincarnation type of plot, where there is a bad cousin or sister and ex lover and revenge with the male lead help and ECT.

I can't say it's bad but I couldn't say it's good either, it's just a so-so... Then again I'm still at the early chapter so perhaps the good part will start... more>> in the middle or sum... However I'm not really sure if I would read it further or not. <<less

Very very dramatic. I enjoy it at first, but the scheme for MC is pretty much the same: making some accusation without much proof, then MC dare to prove it, turn out MC can see the scheme from far away and taking precaution against it, at the end the scheme backfires. Somehow her enemy never learn the lesson and use the same method over and over again.

MC does have OP characteristics, but I think the s*upidity of her enemy contributes more to her survival.

Not much added value compared to other... more>> revenge theme. Romance is pretty slow. Though I like that it grows without physical assault. <<less
