TL;DR: A guy is transmigrated into his favorite game world as a girl with a terrible reputation and an irritating passive skill. The story is well-written, with strong world-building, satisfying character growth, and good humor, though the constant misunderstandings and a slow midsection can be frustrating. Despite a few flaws, it's an engaging read with solid action and comedy. Rating: 8.5/10.

This review is highly subjective.

First, let's talk about the story. A guy finds himself transmigrated into a game world, which also happens to be his favorite game. He knows every... more>> dungeon, secret mechanic, and hidden item. You'd think he'd become OP quickly, right? Unfortunately, this isn't a game anymore, it's reality. In a game, you might survive and defeat an enemy with 1 HP using your bare fists, but in reality, a knife stab can be fatal. Stamina and other real-life elements make survival tough for him. Or should I say her? He's been transmigrated as a girl, and not just any girl, but a highly influential one. The previous owner of the body caused a lot of mess, leaving her with a terrible reputation and many problems. To top it off, she has a passive skill that makes everything she says come off as irritating, annoying, or provocative.

Now let's dive into the pros and cons.

Pros:

The writing execution is excellent, with a consistent plot and character development. The world-building is progressing nicely, and the fight scenes are well-written. The comedy is a highlight, though it can be frustrating how the MC is always misunderstood due to her passive skill. The powers and skills she acquires throughout her journey are genuinely satisfying and feel well-deserved. Unlike some protagonists who rely solely on their game knowledge, she puts in the effort and hard work to achieve her goals. This makes her growth feel earned and rewarding. And finally, some good side characters. Not much else to say, but these guys aren't your usual clichés. You won't find any third-rate villains here either.

Cons:

The MC can be a bit dense. The story could have been easier if she made smarter decisions. For instance, she nearly died from a curse after saving a random boy's life, that said curse also almost made several key characters killed, though she managed to save them everytime[Plot Armor]. Additionally, the constant misunderstandings, while eventually resolved and contributing to side-character development, are infuriating given her good intentions.

I also got a bit bored after chapter 150. The events drag on in the academy, with the power-up/training arc taking too long (or maybe my attention span got thinner because of brainrot, making me bored, I swear I could even read 1000 chapters in 3 weeks a year ago). Despite this, the novel remains quite good.

Overall, this novel is an engaging read with strong writing and world-building, despite a few frustrating elements and a slower-paced midsection. If you enjoy character development and a mix of comedy and action, you'll likely find it worth sticking with.

I'd personally rate it 8.5/10.

PS. As for the romance and reverse-harem stuff, I'm clueless. All I know is that the MC's a guy at heart, so she's into women. But honestly, after 168 chapters, I haven't seen any romance happening yet. <<less

Its a story about the MC possessed a girl and cannot control her speech because of the trait, similar to another title where the guy is forced to talk like a villain.

Its not a story plot that gets translated very often and has great potential so far.

Imagine you're playing your favorite RPG. You know exactly who to speak to and all the dialogue options to give you the best outcome/most rewards. However, no matter which option you choose, you blurt out the worst, most antagonistic option possible.

Like many other academy novels, beneath the gimmick is a simple demon king/evil in the academy story. The one thing this novel does better than the rest is that the gimmick of Mesugaki actually has pros and cons and has been a pretty big focal point up to where I'm... more>> at (ch 300). Unlike many other gimmicks novels (terminal illness, no magic, bad reputation villain), which are very quickly solved and become minor inconveniences within the first 10 chapters.

The first couple of chapters are quite fun, then it gets a bit boring because she's always alone. I think it was around chapter 60ish where it picks back up when she truly gets companions and from then on it's been a very enjoyable read. However, I do have to warn that there's honestly too much filler. There's a lot of meaningless training and dungeon crawling that doesn't seem to have any pay off. <<less

This novel made me actually join a Patreon within 20 chapters.

I don’t have a history of paying to read novels online, I either wait for the free chapters or MTL the untranslated parts, but this made me actually want to support the TL.

But onto the novel itself, it’s a story about a guy being transported into a game as his character. Pretty standard stuff. The nonstandard stuff is that the character is a modded character who has a whole ton of detrimental traits with interesting mechanics. The character actually seems... more>> fairly well balanced for a difficult (but not impossible) play through of what seems like a game that would actually be fun to play (honestly wish it existed myself).

It IS a gender bender novel so, unless you’re into that, you might find it off putting. Honestly though that plot point, while important to the story, is done in a way that even those that don’t generally enjoy the genre would like.

9/10 - It’s not the best novel I’ve read but it’s certainly my favorite currently among the several hundred I’m actively reading. <<less

Starts quite strong, with the unique taunt skill providing lots of humorous interactions, but eventually it does get a bit stale repeating the same joke over and over again.

The gender bending has little to no influence on the character, besides presumably causing the shoujo ai aspect, though there's been little to no sign of that 100 chapters in.

Also became pretty frustrating watching ... more>>
Spoiler

the gods mess around with the MC at their leisure, as it took away agency from the MC and made the story pretty boring past the first few times it happened, which wasn't helped by it coinciding with an academy arc, and those are always a drag past the first few dozen chapters

[collapse]

Given that the raws are at chapter 700 and still ongoing, I can only assume that this fell into the trap that many webnovels do, and ended up being dragged out for financial gain. <<less

It's my first review and it seems fitting that I write one for this novel as it has been by far the highlight of my holiday.

Its been about a month and I made sure to reread some chapters to jog my memory, but I might still get some things wrong so apologies in advance.

Overall I found the novel to be well written. There are no major plot holes from what I remember. And the story balances a captivating story with it's ups filled with light hearted-comedy and it's downs filled... more>> with stress and conflict. Characters include many common tropes, but they all had their character development in one way or another. The plot may seem similar to other novels if you just read the synopsis or even a few chapters. But I definitely recommend it if you think you can make it through the whole.

Regardless of whether you end up liking it or not, I think it is important to know what you're signing up for if you're reading it as to not waste your time.. It's quite a long novel after all. I read it daily for more than 4 hours a day and it took me almost a week

Not exactly important but 1 thing I thought of when writing this is that author made good use of POVs of different characters. Sometimes switching between a 1st person POV (with the MC) 3rd person POV. (Narrator) in a way that not only felt coherent, but gave me a better understanding rather than a fixed perspective.

Since I didn't read the translation on Novelupdates, I won't be talking about translation quality (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc) or anything related to the novel other than the story. Though from what I've seen and heard there have been little to no complaints about the current translation; release schedules, translation quality or anything like that.

I'll start talking about the story now.

(I feel like I shouldn't have to say this but there is multiple spoilers ahead for everything up to the end of the main story. I put a spoiler on anything I found to be really major spoilers but read at your own discretion)

As an intro, he downloads a mod for a game, and gets isekai'ed into the character he made, "Lucy"

The mod basically makes him speak like mesugaki forever. He's still normal in his thoughts but he whenever he tries to speak, it comes out in the worse way possible. You could say the skill kind of translates his words with a mesugaki filter.

Spoiler

You can reasonably widely separate the story into 3 Arcs. The first arc being about Academy life and such, this is where Lucy meets most of her companions. The second arc is about Lucy's battle against the Kingdom, facing a king that fears death. And the final arc is about the final battle against the Evil Gods. Unlike the 1st and 2nd arc, which are held almost exclusively at the Academy or within the kingdom, the 3rd arc is at a much larger scale. Lucy is the only one with cheat-like game knowledge of the dungeons and bosses and must lead an entire continent to fight against the Pope and the rest of the evil villains

[collapse]

I personally found the unspoken interactions between the original Lucy Allen and the MC interesting. In some parts of the of the story regarding Lucy's past the MC (not knowing her past obviously) had no idea what was going on, but her body reacts in the way she would've. In other parts, the MC's actions seem decisively his own.

Spoiler

For example, At the Duke Burrow's mansion. Or during her mother's death anniversary, Lucy cries and mourns her mother sincerely. Even though the MC technically doesn't even know her. As readers we get to see both Lucy's own POV. As well as a 3rd person pov when Lucy wails and is carried home by her father infront of all her family servants and knights. A moment where her companions first realize Lucy's inner vulnerability (although some had their suspicions before). During the dungeon creation part when Lucy was given the assignment to the final exam dungeon, her excitement and anticipation seemed entirely from the MC. Sometimes, even in her mind, speaks and acts as a mesugaki, almost like the lines between the past Lucy and the present are blurring.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The story is mostly on Lucy fighting against the evil gods, partly because she's Jushin/Armadi's apostle (later revealed that Lucy is literally Armadi's daughter) and mainly because she has beef with Agra (he's the big bad in this novel, and leader of the evil gods, representing the end) because of the various good deeds she does (in classic 'evil god' fashion)

[collapse]

In the end the story boils down to Good Gods vs Evil Gods; and Lucy, as Armadi's apostle (and more;>) is caught up in their beef <<less

Heres a summary of my full review from the blog-

This novel follows a familiar "academy" trope where the main character (MC) is transported into a game world via a mod he installed. He gains a unique "provocation" ability that forces him to speak hurtful truths to others, which make the interactions really interesting and otherwise the highlight of this novel. But, much of the rest falls flat.

Descriptions are decent, but the action scenes are poorly written, and the characterization is inconsistent. A major flaw is the story can't decide if... more>> this is a game world or a real one, constantly switching between game mechanics and more realistic elements without clear logic. Like holding a weapon while running will increase proficiency in that weapon etc. This confusion extends to the world-building and power system, which are underdeveloped and nonsensical at times.

The MC's abilities and traits often work inconsistently, and the author never clarifies the rules governing them. Additionally, the MC treats other characters like NPCs, again, and again, and again despite being proven wrong 5+ times in a row he'd make the same mistake yet again. So arguably there hasn't even been character development yet.

In the end, the novel doesn't offer much beyond its basic premise. With weak action scenes, inconsistent world-building, and a lack of meaningful character growth, it's a 6/10—readable but largely skippable.

Note: what the hell is up with this large influx of pointless gender bender novels on the top novels list? Last time I counted there were about 20 novels of top 50 weekly were gender bender. And it doesnt even serve a purpose in the story its just there for the pointless sake of it. <<less

It’s a worthwhile read. The story was rich in lore and good writing. The journey was engaging and the ending satisfying. The only reason why I deducted a star is because of the half-baked attempt at “romance” which I will explain at the bottom part behind a spoiler block.

The main story is finished at 716. 717 onwards are the after stories. Just read it til chapter 716 and its already a good story with a satisfying conclusion. The author’s recent updates are sporadic so I would only start the after... more>> stories when its done.

Spoiler

this is my rant about the “romance (?) ” of this series. Frankly if it did not exist it would be a 5/5. First of all the “shoujo ai” tag here is misleading since til the end both the MC and her friends only saw each other as just that. Friends. Well currently Arthur is a bit ambiguous but it is leaning more towards admiration than anything else. In the case of Joy its more like a bestfriend kind of deal rather than romance.

I called it half baked because there is a genuine attempt at romance with the first prince. The first prince is Lucy's first friend, the only person that understood her during Lucy’s most troubling times, and the only person that treated her well in the past. In fact Lucy’s interaction with the first prince in the final battle and during the conclusion shows that there is genuine interest as a partner. In fact Lucy herself feels some kind of feelings whenever she sees him back when she does not remember him. There is even no directly stated aversion by Lucy to being with him.

I called it half baked because this relationship is never develop aside from snippets, and even then there were confusing aspects. Big example of such head scratch is when Lucy called the first prince “a coward” for leaving her, while it can be seen that it was Lucy who pushed him away to protect him and even then He still approached her despite that. Even when Lucy told him that she forgot about him, he still went to her house despite getting hurt. Clearly showing effort to be with her. A far cry for being a “coward”. You can argue that the first prince heed the first queen’s words thats why he is a coward but literally the same chapter he defied those words and still met with Lucy. Thats why I was so confused when she called him a coward.

I fear this half baked nature stems from the comment section in novelpia. The Tl:dr context: Korean internet is very old fashioned in relationships, they don’t like the male to male if you know what I mean. Since this is a gender bender there is great aversion with the first pince being the love interest which sadly can be seen in the comment section on chapters there is a sweet moment between them.

Sadly I can only hope there is good progress in the after stories regarding this, but I dont know when those will be finished since it would seem the author is delaying the end.

It was really funny coincidence! The prologue situation is exactly like Hollow knight game minus the GOTY part. You can see how they did everything and anything possible on that game while waiting for the second game, Silksong! They even have freking daily Silksong channel!!

The other reviews have done a good job of explaining the good and bad of this novel.

Basically, if you can look past "Gods" interfering with the MCs life for what feels like arbitrary reasons, then you'll probably really enjoy it. The writing and plot aren't OMG AMAZING, but it's very simple and easy to digest.

The criticisms other people brought up are fair. Things just kind of... happen. There are a lot of inconsistencies, but it's all relatively fun.

The only major hiccup is that the Gods start to take away the... more>> agency of the MC. Either they'll be used as Plot Armor or a Plot Device. I'm definitely not a fan of that.

Lastly, hats off to the TL. He's done a good job so far. <<less

Great, hilarious. The insults can get a bit repetitive but later it improves somewhat.

MC is as everyone stated and explained, but shoujo-ai wise, it's currently nonexistent. At most the character Joy seems the most likely candidate at chapter 176, but it's only speculation since everything is friendship rn.

The MC is s*upidly weak but quickly growns due to her s*upidly inhumane training regiment. This novel is mostly SoL so dont expect any fantastic writing.

The MC tries so hard to speak normally at first, but they slowly give up as she finds... more>> the joy in throwing some insults here and there. She still suffers expressing herself tho.

Overall, a fun read with interesting lore. I swear to got TL-san upload quicker. <<less

Probably one of the best Otome Novels I have read. Very Good Characters, Very Good Plot, Very Good Power fantasy. Its one of those kinda books where you can just tell the quality is different for some odd reason. It does hold steam fairly well and keeps on going for a good portion of what I have read. The falloff seems to be the main character is a bit one note but even then all the characters are still maintaining a half decent amount of steam (including the main character).... more>> There is a bit of a Deus Ex Machina problem with the gods and whatnot. But even then its usually played off decently well. Its neat. Saw someone say it has 700 chapters outside of this. It holds steam well but "that well" mmm maybe not. We will see. <<less
