What is a genius? Capable of comprehending any battle skill regardless of the skill itself and sweeping away the bottlenecks while cultivating a new technique; this is a true genius! He Yiming was originally an ordinary youngster in the He family’s estate with not too extraordinary aptitude in learning martial arts.

However, after a fortuitous encounter, this ordinary youngster became what people refer to as genius in a single leap. Possessing an aptitude for learning martial arts which would leave people in awe, regardless of whether it’s his clan’s Houtian Scripture of Five Phases or various Xiantian scriptures of legends. Regardless of whether it’s mental techniques or battle skills, he can comprehend them all in their entirety at a frightening speed. Martial God, with martial as its name, using the most simple and direct approach, thrives!

A review of story from the Raws. Fun, with entertaining moments. The whole family/clan dynamic is actually more interesting in this story that most other in the genre.

Characters come off both interesting and boring at the same time for some reason. From chapter to chapter it changes, there are weird things in that case.

If you are a English Reader you may want to wait till at least the first 110 chapter comes out, or you'll feel a lack of continuity.

Other wise a good solid work with lots of upside for... more>> its the main cast of characters. <<less

The synopsis makes the novel seem generic. But while the bones of it are, the MC's journey is quite uniquely written. At first, I would have given the story 2 or 3 stars, but it grows to deserve 5 and more. My advice: try to power through the stereotypical xuanhuan portions, then slow down near the end of the first volume, when the novel really starts to shine and each moment becomes one worth savoring.

So, the beginning's cringe-worthy, but the story gets better over time. At first, the cultivation system... more>> is so dull that it's annoying, but it becomes interesting in the Xiantian realm. The battles are fantastic, showing the MC's current comprehension and aspirations, and the interactions, in and out of battle, really make the novel stand out among its kind.

The story has more believable elements than most. Though cultivation level is extremely important, people recognize that it's not the only measure of power, and not the end-all for a group to prosper. Family members actually care for one another, though they're taught to place the clan above the individual, and their relationships with people outside their clan tend to be more complex than considering everyone else to be tr*sh. Few characters are flat.

The MC is quite typical for a while, but he gains depth, and he becomes more interesting over time. When the story begins, the MC is twelve years old and has already cultivated for several years (so he's neither too young to take seriously nor the regular 15 or 16-year-old boy who's accomplished nothing despite his age and will suddenly start catching up to and surpassing his peers). His "fortuitous encounter" doesn't turn him into an unconvincing genius, except in the matters of cultivation. His cultivation, in turn, improves his composure but not all the other aspects of his maturity, though it strongly affects his worldview. He's somewhat childish, and it's great to see a growing cultivator actually acting according to his age. For all that the MC's an uber-cultivator, he lacks experience outside of cultivation, which leads to weaknesses when interacting with others: he's quite socially awkward, manipulable, and non-empathetic, which are sensible character faults for a teenager who's spent most his life in isolation, and not even his cultivation level and insight can fully shield him from the mundane. His decisions aren't simplistically right or wrong, but are the result of his experience and personality.

This novel's an excellent compromise between novels like WoC and TtNH, and ones like MGA and WDQK. It isn't as complex or slow-paced as the former, nor as mindless and uninspired as the latter. It's a splendid cultivation story. <<less

It's about a boy with average talents but after an encounter with something in a lake, he became a cultivation genius. I'm still curious about that thing that thing he found. What I like about it is that the MC isn't bullied by his family members, like the majority of xianxias/xuanhuans. The idea isn't original, we've already seen it over and over again. Useless MC -> finds treasure/inheritance/object-with-master -> levels up quickly. But since original stories are rare, I don't complain much about it. But I really like this one,... more>> it's enjoyable- at least for me. You should definitely check it out.

There are only 23 chapters translated so far, so I might change my mind later. <<less

Probably the first and only novel where the MC is and always will be the strongest. For instance most novels will have the MC power up and become the strongest only to move to next area and find out that the youngsters there are mostly of a higher cultivation so MC has to catch up.

Not here though instead at first his cultivation at 15 is equal to a 20 year old, at 16 it's 30, at 18 it's 100 at 25 it's 250, you get the picture.

The MC in this... more>> book is pretty much a bad guy doing all kind of crimes against people who had done nothing against him or people he knows. Instead it's all about getting them cultivation books and/or treasures.

Also for some apparent reason the pockets inside the MC's robe is endless I mean in this one there is no space rings or items to store you goodies in instead he put's it all in his pockets and let me tell you those pockets seems to be able to fit a house inside them.

The story is basically about how OP the MC is while bringing along his girlfriend to cheer him on. An okey read if you got nothing else to read. <<less

Every chapter that goes by I want to drop this more and more... I dont think I have seen a MC that hides as much as this one ever. How is this a MC? Why make him become a super genius if he's going to do nothing but HIDE his Cultivation and his battle techniques the WHOLE TIME. I don't understand, I really don't do people enjoy that? There is no reason for it it's like there going to find out ANYWAY it's just pisses me off because there's endless... more>> talk about how he should train hard and not bite off me then he can chew but he's already way past that point so it's basically just a bunch of useless dialogue. Extremely cringed so far.. I'll read a couple more chps to see if this circus will continue but for now 2 stars.

Edit
I wouldn't waste your time with this. Super cringy. I skipped ahead and he's still hiding his cultivation for no reason but to be as uncool as he can possibly be. <<less

So far this novel has been very interesting, the MC didn't start as tr*sh but rather average and his family actually treat each-other as family, not soldiers in a battlefield. Only thing that's bugging me somewhat is that women are really portrayed as the term would say "women clean while men work." That's annoying, for instance:

"In the Heaven Seizing country where the martial wind blew- not to mention the principal seats, a woman capable of entering just the main hall would be considered an extraordinary one." I mean dude,... more>> they both can cultivate so why is it only men that are allowed to be a meeting? In novels women experts are usually less, that's fine, but this author somewhat belittles women too much. Hopefully that changes. <<less

This is honestly like those old wuxia novels. Quite good story building without the usual s*upidity you would find in average xianxias. There are no s*upid internal conflicts with family members trying to kill each other just because someone is better than someone else. Or people looking down on others excessively.

MC isn't thrust into a revenge plot from the start. It's a bit slow in terms of story line but it's a stable development. MC isn't unreasonably smart or brave, his behaviour and thought process is very true to his... more>> age. Only thing might be hiding his cultivation from his family which is kinda a necessity for the novel to progress. <<less

3 points:

- MC keeps hiding and when he reveals himself, only people who are from far away knows of his abilities
--- What's the point of saying you're a super genius if no one you know closely sees it
--- Annoying immature personality; he has stolen, mu*dered, yet still face moral dilemmas.
--- Only thing good about the MC is he is smart, as well as talented. As there is a Romance tag here, I hope it actually is a romance and not some "Ah I love you [50 chapters... more>> later] My hero, save me! [Before vanishing in the void]"

- World Building: So far, so good. Explorations and discoveries are a good thing in this novel.

- Translator's pace of translating will likely finish in 3 years if he decides to do 3 releases a day tbh (assume that he still does split chapters for the rest of the untranslated chapters) ; if not, 7 years. Just like the novels being hosted in their site. Ugh. Hoping Qidian gets this so we actually will get full chapters and not just based on word count. <<less

Stale water will never recover once everything in it dies. This story started as stale water and through the plot the author slowly made it move. Only, the speed was, and even at the chapter I arrived is, still unbearable slow. Many xianxia novels decide to skip the clan battle part of the story because it often becomes forgotten, or even worse, becomes the liability that forces the plot to go back to either save or cultivate that specific family. "The immortal genre hero" never worked well together with the... more>> idea of pulling the entire family together towards the peak. In this novel we get something even worse. To make the low scope of the protagonist somewhat believable, the author suddenly says that information about upper realms is hidden from most members of the clan. Why? When you know that there is a higher stage, it is easier to aim for it. But no, the protagonist will only aim for the next realm only after dealing with the clan troubles. Through this excuse the surrounding families became forces with at most the same level of power as them. In other words, for everyone living around them, the tenth layer of the first realm is the strongest possible. How long did it take for the protagonist to reach the fifth level? 9 years. And that without his OP status. After that he evolves faster. No matter how you see it, this story is too convenient. Its like feeling itchy but not being able to scratch that certain spot. In the end I gave up and I decided to read the chapter tittles. Reading them, it became increasingly evident how cliche the story would develop.

In the end maybe some would say that it is normal to lose interest in something after skipping the content and reading just the titles. I agree with this partially, but once I saw how the progress of the MC is like rinse and repeat, I couldn't bring myself to read it. It will always be a close fight, he will always surprise those close to him and at some point become a hero.

For me, this story is dead. If you can read it, good luck. <<less

Refreshing read.

First time I have read about a MC being humble and being aware that his meteoric rise in strength is attributed to the item he found, not himself. Well, not exactly the first time, but it feels like it because the MC doesn't instantly become arrogant about his own personal talent/strength, behaving more arrogantly than the arrogant young master's he is beating up.

Anyways, this story takes the same overall story, and does a good remix, or re-arranging of story elements. Making it feel different from other similar reads.

The updates are too slow, other than that I think it's very enjoyable thus far.

Its about a sheltered naive boy who was talented in his youth failed to break trough for some years and a lucky encounter changed his fate.

Aside from the cheat that MC got that is not really explained (so far), the story, cultivation method and fighting style of MC are fun.

Main points:

MC's clan is struggling as it tries to build solid foundation and there is nice family interaction there.

... more>> MC is country bumpkin that only knows how to cultivate, so plenty of funny situations as he explores the world.

Cultivation is 5 element based with elements interacting with each other (boosting, negating,...), MC cultivates all 5 of them and uses the interaction between elements a lot during cultivation. But during fights so far he acts more like a body cultivator (brute strength and 3m long sword/halberd thingy) <<less

I agree with the description from one of the reviews that the main character is a childish naive and sheltered boy who had a lucky encounter. So far, I haven't seen anything that make the story special and I'm a bit amazed on how far the MC goes to hide his cultivation level with his own family. Perhaps, it'll be the right the decision to hide his power level meticulously because of certain upcoming events. But, I haven't read further ahead of the English translation so I wouldn't know. Pretty standard Xianxia fare. Not bad, not good. If you like other Xianxia, this isn't much worse than anything else out there.

Lots of cons, but ultimately it's Xianxia. So most of these are par for the course...

  • Personality-less characters
  • Battle's are formulaic, cultivation + skill level and comprehension = power level
    • Battles decided by direct punch to punch, because that's how people fight....
  • Full sentences repeated in the same chapter and full paragraphs repeated between chapters to fill up space.
  • Unnecessary exposition in order to fill space.
  • MC unrealistically s*upid in order to nerf himself
    • Can learn a technique in an hour, but chooses only to study two instead of all of those available...

I give this 4.5 out of 5 for good reasons. Although the plot and the MC is not as interesting as Eternal Will and WoC, I love this novel because most of the characters (including villains) aren't fking idiots.

Here are three examples:

Spoiler

In the MC's He clan, there is some friendly completion, but that is all. No one trying to kill each other because they have the common sense to know that cooperation is the only way they are going to survive. The same applies to almost all of the clans in the translated chapters so far. Only the Yuan clan experiences a in-fighting, and not surprising it almost result the end of them if not for the He clan's support.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The Fan's clan leader is great at managing his clan. He allows only his oldest son to have some authority because the eldest son has a brain. Meanwhile, he refuses to give any authority to his brain-dead youngest son. Also, the Fan's clan leader hide the fact that he has the support of a tenth level and 2 ninth level experts until the MC along with his tenth level uncle and seventh level cousin came to the aid of the leading branch of the Yuan clan.

[collapse]

Spoiler

While the He Clan is at odds with the Cheng and Xu clans to the point where they have no problem attempting to kill each other inspiring youths, they never attempt an all out war. The reason being they know such actions will only weaken them to the point where external forces can come and subjugate the survivors. Also, it was cool as h*** when the three clans' leaders were going to fight to the death together when the Xu's head elder already volunteer to remain alone, thus showing that the MC's grandfather and the Cheng head elder have moral decency to repay the Xu's head elder for sheltering the He and Cheng clans at the start of the bandit invasion.

Sadly, Qidian got the rights to this novel, so translator decide to make a deal with Qidian rather than try to fight a losing battle. <<less

The whole first volume is pretty slow and far too much of it is spent on describing uninteresting cultivation methods and the MC's advancement from level to level. Little drama and even less of a plot.

However, V2 looks very promising as the MC leaves his homeland to travel (for a while) and encounters some interesting happenings and other characters. Where I'm up to, v2c32, it's getting quite engrossing as, after returning home he has to set out again to face a situation that looks as though it will provide for... more>> happy reading.

On the downside, the MC is still rather a bland character, lacking passion, or indeed any particularly engaging characteristics. Except he's somewhat amoral. But hopefully this will change and he will grow along with the story. Oh, also the fights against creatures are incredibly long and tedious. <<less

lets start with the good part, the plot is good, nothing so generic as just inter/outer clan struggle, the plot weaves from local to remote locations and introduces many characters. This was enough to keep me going.

Now for the mediocre, parts: all characters are two dimensional, all their thoughts and actions only revolve around clan status, and cultivation, and only by using the most generic of observations.

There is really no tension in the plot, you always know the the MC is going to come up on top, because just before... more>> the fight he leveled up.

NO the protagonist is not OP as in Tags... He is frequently chased down. It did not happen during the first few chapters though which is why I thought its gonna be different from other Xianxia. But turns out I am Wrong. And gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

The mysteries are not solved completely and the ending is a bit rushed. Heck the author did not even mention the thing in the Pond even at the end.

Definitely not for people who want to see MC struggling to get stronger or fighting very close battles. This MC literally never loses! Or from what I've seen so far. His "lucky chance" is way too OP, and he just advances so fast that any of his enemies never really catch up.

But it somehow never feels boring, because you want to see the MC get even more OP and crush all his opponents. And he's someone cautious and plans for each battle, so it never becomes one of those "I'll... more>> walk up to your mansion and destroy your entire family, " but rather he really thinks about how to keep a low profile. <<less
