He became the Emperor when he was just a boy and was beheaded before reaching adulthood. It was a tragedy brought about by his fate as the first noble wizard.

“Ian, don’t be born in your next life.”

He thought everything was over, listening to the traitor’s heartless words. He knew, but…

“You are a symbol of peace. Where else would you find such honor as a lowly one?”

He became the Margrave’s bastard son, whose family went extinct 100 years ago.
A lowly, unsophisticated one, destined to be sold as a hostage to the barbarians across the border.

honestly it's probably one of the best novels I've read in a while, and that's coming from a picky reader.

the story is amazing, the pace is amazing, characters are amazing, no fillers, no romance and not a single boring chapter. Surprising plot twists, and steady characters development.

If you love political novels as well as a calm, charismatic, genius, and charming main character that uses his brain and sweet tongue more than his powers to get what he wants... read this, you won't regret it.

Hope it gets more attention, it's truly... more>> a hidden gem <3 <<less

10/10!! Very recommended read! One of the best reincarnation and time travel novel in this website! The MC is so my taste In is calm, cunning, clever, strong, genius, charismatic, kind and kinda funny too what a complete package! So many mysteries to unravel, so many intrigue and scheming enemies, likeable side characters and I can't wait for the kingdom building part after he take over Bratz territory! Thank you translator and team

It's a great Political Novel and recommended to those who like politics and Smart Male Lead. The MC is smart and uses his wits to solve every problem but this doesn't mean that other characters IQ are lowered. Every person has their own interests and they all are very quick witted. I especially liked how every characters had their own motive and characteristic. Even a passing by character has their own agenda and the female characters are also treated nicely unlike some works where most of the females only fangirl... more>> or are about love.

The MC is a charismatic, genius and beautiful. I don't know what more one could ask for. He is quick witted and knows how to use his head to solve problems and he is also a workaholic and a bit sacrificial.

As the story continues on it gets better and better. And I especially adore the Ministry of Magic and Beric. They are so faithful and caring and their bonds are so strong like a family. I especially like how they worry about the MC because he is a perfectionist and workaholic and also have to suffer because of this.

At the start Ian's (MC) intentions or main goal were not clear but as the story goes on it becomes clear. There is only thing he wants and it's so sad. He is another one of thise sacrificial MC's... Coughing up blood and hiding it and saying he is fine. He suffers so much because of his love for his country. There is only one thing he gave the biggest part of his heart to. And that's Bariel. He will sacrifice himself again and again if it means glory for Bariel.

The main character sees everything from a wide perspective and many times pushes his emotions aside to make choices which will benefit the empire. It shows the cruel fate of the Emperor who must never lean his heart towards anyone and only trust how much is necessary. It sometimes breaks my heart because of how heavy the responsibility it is. They can't let their emotions get in the way or their empire would be the one who faces it's backlash.

Don't ignore the tragedy tag. Since the Novel has not ended yet we don't know if he will get a happy ending or not but his life is pretty miserable. The author has a habit of cutting onions and make one cry. I was so emotionally exhausted at one point because of the angst. If it weren't for the Ministry of Magic kids who lighten up the atmosphere and make our MC happy I would have stopped.

The novel is a very good read. The world building is good with not many potholes and story keeps on getting better and better.

Edit:- I take back what I said. Our MC is not a 'bit' sacrificial but very sacrificial... Someone should just lock him up at this point... <<less

THIS IS SOOOO GOOD. I've been looking far and wide for a great novel on par with LOTM, ORV, DMJ, and others, and as someone who read a lot of novels, I can certainly tell you this is worth the read! The world-building is superbbbb. I was looking for this novel for a year after seeing the gorgeous cover, I finally found it and it did not disappoint!

I gotta say, thank you, translator-nims for giving me a chance to read this 😭

Sending lots of love!

It's good, but not the best. Some Korean reviews saying it gets worse in the middle is not lying.

The first 200 or so chapters were great. The pacing is good, and there are clear motivations, conflicts, resolutions, and compelling characters throughout.

Afterwards, however, the pacing gets disrupted, almost like a slice of life filler, and the things aren't clear anymore. The protagonist isn't running towards a goal anymore, but just moving, goals unknown to both his surroundings and the readers. Developments are seemingly revealed as if stumbling across instead of trudging... more>> towards the unpaved destination. After that the pace picks up again but the storytelling is still as revelations + some surprise events.

For these kinds of novels that start with a bang--the reincarnation mystery + surrounding circumstances for example--losing sight of that just feels boring. I'm not interested in how the current empire is going to be run. I'm only interested in what the mystery surrounding the protagonist is, and how he will move towards his own goals in a different spacetime and deal with his current connections now, some forged by his very own hands, and his lack of connections then.

  • prologue + 1st arc -- excellent
  • 2nd arc -- ok (badly needs character development, some characters gone not mentioned, storytelling not ideal, world expanded but restricted to 3 bigger kingdoms, lack of details for the rest of the world)
  • 3rd arc pending...
  • ...
In conclusion, I would recommend reading it at least up until the first arc after the prologue ends, as in up until the succession wars are concluded. Up until this part it would be an 'excellent' rating (not the best but absolutely worth your time).

---

P.S.

One minor quip I have is that in dialogues, the author makes what I believe to be a mistake, in writing style. It's one thing to try and put accents into dialogue, which could be good or bad; it's another thing to put in name elongations. "Iaaannn" is not what you want to put into dialogue. I believe that would be too far in any published setting, yet it shows up here because it's an online novel. <<less

This is good...

From the very beginning of the story, the palace intricacies are defined marvelously.

The characters are charming and mysterious.

the problems in his road seemingly bringing the veil to be lift one by one. Keeps me interested and curious. It not the same problem altogether and needing different approaches which is delightful. I love when there’s no reusing the same problem over and over.

the story is rich. Not so heavy in action, but words.

Try it.

I'm currently reading MBSE, and the Flower Pot situation at the beginning is a bit strange. It's not terrible, though. The start seems to progress a bit too smoothly at first, but I suspect it's just setting the stage.

It's safe to say that it only continues to get better, as I wouldn't have made it to Chapter 174 otherwise. I'm eagerly waiting to read the rest.

I'm currently at a point where the action really starts to pick up, and I hope that this will be a fulfilling and lengthy novel.... more>> It's starting to get interesting in a way that makes me want to keep reading more and more.

I might edit my review later on. <<less

i would like to say it's a good novel. Different vibe but similar with lotm, it's more complex in political struggle and searching for the truth. That's why this one is on par with my goat Series. If you like lotm then you'll like this.

Our MC reborn as another ian in the past. From there he step by step avoid his death flag and also find the reason he turn back in this TL. He using his brain and his skill more. In other novel, other MC know about future... more>> and the plot as a golden finger. But this one is not. Ian from the future, know the future, but he is blind about what happen 100yrs ago or the timeline. So he is indeed great using his brain and play politics, and also his magic. This is the charm of the novel. The plot and the characters development is great.

This novel is a lil bit out of my taste, because I don't like politics or brainer thingy and it's lack of warm friendship&family vibe (?). Sometimes you'll find it boring, but for the sake of plot, world building, and the characters, it's worth it. 5 Stars for this. <<less
