After 2000 years has passed, the ruthless demon lord has just been reincarnated! But his aptitude at an academy for nurturing candidates for demon lords is, “Inept”!?

Having the capability to destroy humans, elementals, and gods, after a long period of countless wars and strife, Arnos the demon lord became sick and tired of all that and longed for a peaceful world, so he decided to reincarnate to the future.

However, what awaited him after his reincarnation is a world too used to peace that his descendants became too weak due to a huge weakening in magical powers.

Arnos enrolled in the Maou Academy established to find any students that might be the demon lord’s reincarnation, but his powers are too extraordinary that those in the academy couldn’t properly judge his powers, so he’s regarded as an “Inept student”. Being underestimated and avoided by most people there, he recruited a girl friendly to him, Misha, as his subordinate and comrade, and strives to climb to the top of the demon race hierarchy to one day reclaim his former title and status.

How the heck is this only get 3.9 stars?

As far as I read, It is enjoyable to read and has great story potential.

For me, this kind of story is new, Demon King who sacrifice himself to make peace then reincarnating after 2000 years to (try) "enjoy" the peace that he was made.

... more>> I love this kind of novel which build up the story plot at the beginning.

And let's make a better objective reasoning: It has more than 400 chapters and has 2 Light Novel published.

Meaning: He got enough fanbase and the publisher judge that it is worth enough to be published.

I rarely give reviews, but this novel sure deserve better treatment.

Those who gave 1 stars really do not understand, 1 is for the worst of the worst.

If I can precisely give the number, this novel should be around 4, 5 stars

Because "Mushoku Tensei" has covered all I needed and it was deserved the best novel even after I read for 4+ years <<less

This is an edge-lovers wet dream, it's the perfect power trip for people tired of pretend antiheroes, this MC is brutal and unrepentant.

It's got some slice of life and gory dark humor in it as well.

This is the type of popcorn novel we dark fantasy lovers crave.

The manga is being TLed as well, it's on Mangadex if anyone is interested.

First off, my review. I loved this one. The MC is impossibly OP, like Saitama from One Punch Man or Satou from Death March levels of OP. But I enjoyed how he dealt with the things that popped up. I love how pretty much everything in the novel seems to be connected. Even little things that don't seem to mean much have a solid reason for why they are that way. Like Misha, the first girl he meets, being quiet and reserved. Or when they talk about magic and say... more>> 'stare into the abyss' - it's not simply a chuuni line that sounds cool, it's got a meaning. And most things seem to be like that, even if they don't seem to add up perfectly at the time, a few chapters later you get all the pieces and the puzzle clicks and everything makes sense. The author very obviously has some rough outline of a plan at least, because everything fits and flows together well. I love that between every volume there's an epilogue and prologue that finish and open the volumes, they help set the scene and clearly define a start and end for arcs.

Another huge thing the author does that's great is actually use the MC's past life. The MC reincarnation 2000 years in the future isn't simply a gimmick to start the series, the author goes back to his past life and relates past events to the present, and reveals important parts of the story through his past life. It feels like him being alive 2000 years ago is part of the story and matters a lot, not simply something added so the 'reincarnated protagonist' tag can be slapped on the novel.

From here this becomes a response to Seregosa's review, so feel free to skip it if you don't want my random rant on people who leave a nonsensical review without actually reading.

I'm dying. What are you on about with the constant 'childish' - what's childish is giving a novel 1 star because it's intentionally written in a chuuni style. A true adult doesn't need to use big words and only like mature things to appear like an adult. It's a novel, not a business report or scientific journal.

Anyways, on to your points and why I can't agree with any of them... I'll just go through them quickly I guess.

The double names for skills, it's just the name of the skill then it's name in magic, it's a stylistic choice by the author, nothing wrong with that?

Inconsistent personality for the MC, that IS his personality though. He's all over the place on purpose. He's a thousands of years old ultra powerful demon lord of tyranny - he's the existence that terrorized the world for hundreds of years, and killed gods. All he knew from the moment he was born from his dead mother's corpse was fighting and death. He was feared and looked up to as a monster above all monsters. He didn't have relationships, of course he'd be a bit immature, that only makes sense. Time doesn't make you mature, it's the interactions you have over that time that make you mature, if you locked a baby in isolation for fifty years they're not going to be a scholar, it's the experiences that make a person grow. When your experiences are death and destruction or people fearing you so much they can't interact with you the interactions you can have to grow are limited.

As for the immaturity from everyone else, they're like 13 - 16 years old - they're supposed to be immature...

As for the content in the spoiler, I'll cover it my own spoiler tag.

Yeah, he did use high level magic to beat strong demons, yeah he did show insane power, but his score was recorded as zero. They've been brought up for hundreds of years to believe in the supremacy of royals, he's not a royal, royals are saying he's got zero magic power because that's what was recorded. Their supreme rulers built the magic measuring tool, it hasn't been broken ever, they don't think it can be broken, the fact it broke was hidden. The higher-ups at the school are intentionally trying to hide that he's the demon king, it's the main plot of the story. As for his answers, he's 2000 years in the future and only been alive for a single month in the new world with parents that don't believe he's reincarnated. How is he supposed to go around? They asked questions, he answered the real answers. When you see questions on a test in school do you think about what the answers are, or do you think what incorrect answer they might be looking for? You obviously answer the correct answer. It just so happens that every answer for that test he took was intentionally incorrect, for the purpose of hiding the fact that he's the demon king. If the people you looked up to and believed in like a god said one thing, would you believe them or would you believe rumours of something you haven't personally seen that you've only just now in your life heard of? If someone said gravity was fake, would you just believe them when you've known gravity to be true your whole life, all because a friend of a friend saw something they claim disproved gravity? Obviously not, and this is the same.

As for the overdone personalities, I don't think they are overdone too much? The person who won't change their mind no matter how much evidence they're given is almost anyone nowadays. Look at all the anti-vaxxers or democrat/republican-for-lifers in politics. People don't easily change their mind, regardless of evidence. As for the quiet girl, keep reading, there's a very big reason for that and it's again a major part of the story. It's not done for no reason. As for the 'stare into the abyss' it isn't the MC saying he's amazing or something, it means to look deeper into the origins of something to see the truth. It's like saying to research and think about it more. It's a chuuni way of saying it, but it's got signifigance to the plot of the story and the construction of the world. The way it's said is intentional and means something in the story.

The 'blatant praise for the MC' is pretty natural, right? He's an all-powerful demon king of tyranny who literally killed gods living in a time where peace has lasted for over 2000 years, thus making combat strength decline immeasurably. It'd be like a professional sports player all of a sudden playing against and with infants. He's immeasurably stronger than them, and has infinitely more knowledge than they do. But it's normal for the MC; remember, he was one of the strongest beings from 2000 years ago, and his reincarnation was instantaneous for him, not 2000 years long, his scale of power is from 2000 years ago, where his power was insane but not so out of the norm. To him, the level of power he has is a fraction of his real power, and doesn't seem great at all, it's just everyone else has gotten weaker. Of course he wouldn't think it's a big deal.

Now attacking an author and calling them immature for writing a story is the height of immaturity and childishness. An adult wouldn't cry and whine and give something 1 star because 'eww, it's chuuni, gross'. That's not cool to attack someone for their writing.

The MC fought through hellish battles, dying thousands of times, to get to where he is. He lost countless companions and subordinates, he gave up everything he had to achieve the power he gained, he became the greatest evil in existence to shield his race, and then gave up his life to seal the races apart with a giant wall and end the war. He didn't suddenly get his power for no reason, he's not going around pointlessly showing off his power, he's not rushing to be recognized - he even goes out of his way to mention multiple times that he's the demon king of tyranny, and he knows that fact, so why should he care if others don't yet - read a little more and he literally says what you're saying exactly. He was curious about his descendants so he went to take a look and he's got insanely high pride, as is natural for someone at the top of existence!

As for the feats he does that are amazing, yeah, that's true they are amazing. But they've been told for centuries that the demon king will reincarnate as a Royal. He's a mixed blood. He's simply a rare once in a millennia genius, but he's still not a Royal. And as for forcing them, he acknowledges that like right at the beginning, but that'd split the demons and start a war, plus there's another reason that's absolutely central to the plot that I won't spoil. There's a VERY clearly defined reason he doesn't want to go the forceful route. Please read before you complain about stuff that's written word for word in the story, it just makes you look silly.

And finally you go right back to maturity and how you're so mature, and such an adult, so you couldn't possibly like this fiction. What adult has to state their maturity thirty times in a review on a random novel and write an ENTIRE PARAGRAPH in said review stating their maturity and adultness. Children walk around claiming they're adults and 'too old' or 'too mature' for things, an actual adult isn't so insecure that they feel the need to express that to strangers on the internet - in a novel review for some reason. Seriously, authors take the time to write a story then you give it a 1 star review because you're insecure about being an adult? I can't help but cry a little. <<less

So far typical fantasy school novel with OP protag, been there seen that. The premise reminds me of Shikkaku Mon a bit, but less thrilling and incredibly more s*upid. Other reviewers didn't joke about turning off your brain when reading this.

I think its safe to give this story the hot garbage label.

Its the kind of story where you have to turn your brain off lest you become disgusted with it. Ignoring how the whole reincarnation schtick is just an overly complicated way of saying time travel (cuz he spends all of a few seconds as a baby), alot of his decisions are nonsensical and lack self awareness.

Constantly killing and reviving people, turning people into zombies with wuxia mob like cannon fodder in a school setting? The protagonist also comes off... more>> as a mild sociopath, like that one friend who lords over how much better he is at this one thing. Like when you play smash ultimate and he combos you as a beginner to infinity while guffawing, "why cant you do this? Its so easy!"

My rating: 10/10 Definitely recommended for the NU readerbase <<less

There are reviews which critics the story so far, but do try to stick until the chapters gets translated to 35-37 and above. I can read some Japanese so it does get so much better that it will feel like reading a lighter, faster-paced and a more comedy-oriented version of Tensei Slime in a school setting. Once the MC gets his first close male friend at the academy (he too gets his own girl) and adds more other girls to his list of secret admirers (the 2 main... more>> heroines are still the closest to the MC) it gets much better.

Currently at chapter 7 the story has not even reached 1 percent of the meat of the story, so please reserve judgement until at least chapter 35, as the story gets more gripping and edge-of-your-seat as more powerful enemies shows up in later arcs. The requirements for liking this novel are quite simple, and they are : 1. You find the MC cool and badass. 2. You find the girls cute and strong. 3. You find MC's male buddy and his GF as cool and interesting characters.

The enemies in the first few arcs might seem like cannon fodder to serve as plot conveniences to make the MC and his comrades look super OP, cool and strong, but if you be patient there will be stronger antagonists in later arcs that could provide better challenge to the MC and his friends.

At the very least, the story will have much better characters that you actually care a lot about compared to most other template harem JP novels where MC's male friend doesn't play any big role in the story and where there are no big stakes involved in threats to the world and MC's friends. In fact, I can argue that this novel is the best JP fantasy magic school action novel I have ever read so far, as it doesn't depend on much Ecchi fanservice, and has a much more interesting plot than any reincarnated MC novel or fantasy academy novel. <<less

The times I've come across such a grand chuunibyou novel is truly rare. This is the essence of chuunibyou and cringe solidified. From s*upid skill names (every skill has a skill name along with an explanation of what it actually is, like "thought transmission <liikus>" or "Flight <Fures>" or "Transfer "Gatom" or "Growth <Crest>, Contract <Sekt>, the cringe... At least just use the skill name, but nooo, gotta use both every time, always what it does and then the skill name, you have to be kiddig me), childish developments and... more>> an inconsistent MC (in that his personality is all over the place, changing whenever the author wants it to and not adhering to what is expected of such a character) to immaturity overflowing from every pore of the MC and perhaps everyone else in the story as well.

They're all morons. Like when he used "insane" magic by today's standards to massacre plenty of "high level royal demons" or whatever and then when they measure his magic it's at 0 and he gets a crap score. Oh reeeallly? Then the MC gives answers to questions that are correct but clearly not how others would view it, being s*upidly honest about what really happened which others would believe impossible, thus failing that as well, because he's not smart enough to understand that no one else would know his actual thoughts at the moment it happened. That's not at the level of s*upid anymore, they're just ret*rds, all of them.

The character traits are also overdone which makes everyone feel like they only have a single trait they play to the max, like this guy is a "baddie" so he acts evil and won't give up his evil ways no matter what and no matter what evidence is presented to prove him wrong, he won't give up, or that person isn't good at speaking so she overdoes the choppy speaking act. Urgh. Gotta love how often the author uses "stare into the abyss" to refer to the mc's power and how people can't grasp it all, every time it sends a shiver down my spine as I feel my will to live dwindle just a little bit more.

It's rare to find a novel with such blatant praise for the MC and the mc's own desire to show it off while at the same time pretending to play it off as nothing, which makes it even more juvenile than ever before. Everyone literally exists to suck the mc's d*ck and the MC himself exists to suck his own d*ck. It's a shameless show of self-praise, it's such a blatant self-wanking praise that I can't even laugh at it. It's so overdone that I have a hard time telling if it's supposed to be a parody or not, but a parody should be amusing, not ridiculously s*upid. This is a novel meant for 10-12 year old kids. Anyone who's mature with a logical mindset will die a little inside trying to read this. Giving it 18 chapters to prove me wrong was all too kind. This should be a test of how long you can endure the cringe before giving up. If the author actually believes this is "cool" or "amusing", I feel sorry for him, truly. His mind is stuck at kindergarten levels, it's creepy, like he's a big baby or something. Ever read "+ tic neesan"? The author feels like he'd be the giant adult baby screaming "boobies" all the time, only not as amusing and less mature.

Geez. Seriously, it doesn't make things better that the MC himself acts like an overconfident teenager who gained too much powers for nothing. He's literally going around looking down on everyone and acting like he's so much better than everyone else and while this is true, of course, that doesn't mean you need to show it off at least 10 times each chapter, what are you trying to prove? A real badass doesn't need to show off and talk down to people while rubbing his own ego, that's just what a teenager with an inflated ego would do. A real, true badass doesn't show off and rub his own ego, he knows he's the best so why would he care about what other thinks and why would he actively provoke ants that doesn't matter to him at all? Why would he squabble with inferior and weak descendants? Why would he be in such a rush to prove himself when he knows he's the best and lived through world wars? How about a little maturity? This guy, he truly acts like that annoying twerp teenager you see in some novels that suddenly gained huge powers for no good reason and gets all inflated, thinking they're on top of the world with no rival, looking down on everyone as inferior and thirsty to prove themselves. Not really how demon king who've already proven himself and who is the ancestor of all these people should act. It's truly so damn immature.

Also, everyone treats him like he's nothing yet he has over and over again proven the opposite and showed that he can do things that clearly only the founder could do, but they're all like "Oh my goood, who is heeeee, impossibru"... He also has countless ways to forcibly make everyone recognize who he is, but he doesn't do anything. They're truly all ret*rded, there are no words for how s*upid they are. The writing is juvenile to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if a 12-15 year old chuunibyou patient is actually the author.

Read this at your own risk, no mature person with thought processes of an adult would be able to bear this crap. It's just way too cringeworthy and s*upid. Trust me on this. Not saying no adult could enjoy it, but I am saying that no one who values logic, common sense and intelligence would enjoy it. It's so s*upid it could sometimes pass off as a parody but it really isn't one. If it was just poking fun at these chuunibyou novels, it would be fine, but this is truly one of the most cringeworthy novels I've ever read, and I've read A LOT. Perhaps I would've enjoyed it when I was in my early to mid teens and hadn't become that mature nor read a lot of other novels, but now it's just mental torture to read this. Perhaps I'm simply not part of the target audience, but I feel that even novels meant for children or teenagers should aim for at least a slightly higher quality standard than this. I personally feel it's actively killing my brain cells.

That it managed to actually get a 4/5 score either shows someone manipulated it with multiple accounts OR shows something about the the ones who read it

arrogant narcissistic MC to the point where it's incredibly obnoxious. The MC resembles the stories you'd hear from people lying about life experiences like showing a teacher how to actually teach then being told to teach the class.

The author also glosses over so many things that should actually be an issue and tries to play it cute, like the MC being under a year old yet turning into a full grown adult and bring home girls.

I tried to give this a shot eventhough the synopsis sounded incredibly cliche.

-Full use of magic powers from the get go

-One of the cliches I hate the most - overpowered MC meets small fry that's asking for a beat down; is only put there to allow MC to demonstrate how OP he is

-Good translation but the narration is really light on setting the scene

Nope, I couldn't bear to read any further.

Start with demon king and hero want to make peace and they succeed (???) after that it become slice of life series with comedy where only MC who think straight. How about other, they become idiot, dumb, mindless npc. Up to chapter 20, this become very annoying

Really can't stand it, I want to give 1 star but I only read the first 20 chapter and maybe this series become better in the future, so 2 star

Tips : Dont thinking too much while reading this. Dont apply common sense too, common sense-chan would be dying.

The story is about MC who are too op, so he decided to reincarnated to future instead. The MC is goddamn overpowered because he is basically godfather of demon. Then after reincarnated, he entered academy to become demon king.

World building left hanged unexplained. They basically doesnt explain how much race, civilitazion, god structure things, detail in this world, basically NOTHING. Also pace is terrible, its like suddenly it has been month and... more>> he going to academy and messing arround. Common sense-chan is dying. Basically I have no idea why the MC entered academy, since he is s*upidly OP he could entering palace and take down the demon king current era. Other character also mindless like villain on CN novel, they know MC is op yet they keep challenging him just to get face-slapped.. So much other things defied common sense.

Overall you could enjoy this if you want to read something that doesnt involved drama and MC sure always winning. Once again, dont think too much when reading this :D <<less

I was unable to turn off my brain to the extent needed to slog through the story. So many things made no sense and while I'm sure many things are explained later on, there just isn't enough real content to force me to try and suspend my disbelief beyond these early chapters.

this could have been really interesting and very dark if the MC actually acted like a demon king instead of just f*cking around, as others have pointed out, but as this is a Jnovel, I wasn't holding out much... more>> hope from the start. I have zero problem with OP MC but all he's done with his power so far is accelerate his growth and bully a bunch of little kids. People keep saying its funny but I haven't seen anything that made me smile, let alone laugh and I was in no way taking the story seriously. The writing style in this just isn't my cup of tea.

I will say that if I was an edgy teenage boy I would probably love it. <<less

A MC that's not annoying. He isn't s*upid. Is mature, confident, and doesn't hides his skills when he's OP. 10/10 right there. Sort of cliche female love interest but are interesting. Has a capable and strong male best friend later on too. Plot is interesting once you understand what's going on at the school and why they think he's tr*sh despite showing demon god levels of power. And yes there is a reason and is not a plot hole like some reviews who didn't read far enough would suggest.

The MC... more>> is the former demon king who after sacrificing himself to end the long war of his era, splits the world into four regions. MC reincarnated and goes to the school his followers founded to find the reincarnated demon king in the future, but things are off. The level of demons have gone down, history has been rewritten, the values of what a demon should be are different, and to top it off no one knows who he is even by name and the former demon lord is someone else.

This is all the fake demon lords plot. The MC wasn't recognized as the demon lord. He also isn't respected despite being OP because after reincarnating he has human parents with faint demon blood, and the demon world now is run by pure blood nobel demons. The MC becoming successful and recognized, even just for his ability, is a threat to the current system run by the pure bloods. Also, the fake demon lord is hiding in the shadows, waiting for the mc's reincarnation to kill him, sending his subordinates at the MC.

Maou Gakuin No Futekigousha or otherwise known as Misfit of Demon King Academy, is a fun, comedic and ridiculous parody of the bland repetitive OP light novel protagonist that we usually see. Not only is the main character, Anos Voldigoad one of the most coolest character I have ever read about, his lines and dialogues are borderline insane in nature. For example the classic, ... more>>

“Do you think killing me would make me die? Or even, “Do you think just because you dodged my attack you can avoid it?

Yeah, he is illogical that way. And I love every single bit of it. This guy gives Shirou Emiya a run for his money. Just seeing him cut down every enemies in his way make it all the worth while to read. And while some of the other characters remain slightly undeveloped, my main focus is on the MC. If a story have a horrible plot, but a great MC to carry the book, then it’s all worth it. Unlike other people, I love his personality, which some might think of as annoying or narcissistic. We can also look at Anos’s friend Sasha and Misha who aren’t archetypical character that can be described using tsundere or yandere, but are actually 3 dimensional character that have feelings. And I would like to talk about Ray, who

concocted a Zero Requiem in order to quell the hatred of Jetta. His bromance with Anos was awesome.

On this, I would give it a 5/5.

However, the plot isn’t that bad by itself, it have plenty of twist and turn along the way, like Avos’s identity or Ray’s reincarnation. On this category, I would rate it a 3/5. Just average in nature.

The world have a lot of interesting lore and information around it as well. Like, how Misha use her magic as a hobby, constructing sceneries and landscape, or how lovers have two shell necklace to give to each other. Or some important cosmology term like a Source which is pretty relevant in the story, or different types of terms for different spells because obviously the knowledge between nation would change if separated for more than a thousand year right? 3/5 as well for worldbuilding.

In conclusion, if you’re the type of person that loves ridiculous plot line in which you don’t have to try and think too hard, read this. The MC will make you laugh to exhaustion, or at least, that’s what he did to me. <<less

What is wrong the guys who gave 1 star for this novel!!?. Not even reading upto 10 chapter and they giving 1 star!?.

If you can't see this novel's value, then go somewhere else. Don't go give wrong critics to the potential readers, you idiots.

As far as I see, this MC is one of coolest and fearless character I have ever seen. Not some beta, spineless, dense and coward MC I have gotten tired of.

I'm not gonna lie: after the current story arc this novel is probably going to suck (it would be difficult for an author to match or exceed this quality in a sequel arc) but it's absolutely worthy of five stars until that happens.

Arnos Voldigod, the demon king of flex, is the most enjoyable character I've read in a long time.

I will also advice you to turn off your brain like other review but with different reason, a lot of plot twist. Literally, everything will make sense as the story going on. Later in the story you will find that the MC’s actions are all justify

Well, its simple, if you take it too seriously, its tr*sh tier, but if you take it as a laid-back comedy, then its decent enough. If you care too much for common sense this novel is not for you, if you are sensitive to cringe or plot armor this novel also is not for you, but if simply want to shut off the critical part of your brain and enjoy a slice of life comedic power trip then you are in the right place.

Long story short? Extremely entertaining.

Seriously this series is just a ton of fun. Initially I was a bit worried. It has some red flags like the tired reincarnation trope, the whole "omfg they cannot properly gauge this guy's power so he's considered inferior but he's actually not" cliche, and some others. Most of that is properly explained later, but that's actually not important. What carries this novel is pretty much Arnos Voldigod. He's the mudafcking Demon Lord reincarnated, and he gives no sh*t about whatever plebs think. He does as... more>> he pleases for fun and no one can stop him. So some hoity toity nobles say some s*upid stuff about him not being a proper noble? He doesn't care one bit about the bugs lol. I really like how he's pretty much just lulzing around. Arnos is confident in his own strength and just does whatever the hell he wants for his own reasons. There are some people wondering why the heck he's even in the Academy. After all they literally have nothing to teach him. The thing is, he's there because he finds it amusing. It might seem like it doesn't make sense, but Arnos IS the rules. His whim is all that matters hahahaha.

I also rather like the supporting characters Misha and Sasha. So far I admit they haven't had much of a chance to break out of their archtypes, but the first arc involving them was pretty darn touching. It's mostly the way they interact with Arnos that's fun to see. Sasha is mostly a typically tsundere, but Arnos is too smooth for any tsundere pussyfooting and tackles her head on.

Overall I'm totally down to see more Demon King/Founder shenanigans. <<less

It's so good. I didn't think there could be more from the premise, but the story has a unique spin with a mystery. I really love the plot and ofcourse the characters. Love to read more. This is the first time reading a webnovel and I'm glad this is my first one. Following recommendations and comment from S.D, I started to read Shikkaku mon. It's completely horrible. It doesn't even compare to Maou Gakuin No Futekigousha. I hate you S.D for giving such s*upid recommendations and making my second webnovel... more>> a drastic failure. <<less
