After 2000 years has passed, the ruthless demon lord has just been reincarnated! But his aptitude at an academy for nurturing candidates for demon lords is, “Inept”!?

Having the capability to destroy humans, elementals, and gods, after a long period of countless wars and strife, Arnos the demon lord became sick and tired of all that and longed for a peaceful world, so he decided to reincarnate to the future.

However, what awaited him after his reincarnation is a world too used to peace that his descendants became too weak due to a huge weakening in magical powers.

Arnos enrolled in the Maou Academy established to find any students that might be the demon lord’s reincarnation, but his powers are too extraordinary that those in the academy couldn’t properly judge his powers, so he’s regarded as an “Inept student”. Being underestimated and avoided by most people there, he recruited a girl friendly to him, Misha, as his subordinate and comrade, and strives to climb to the top of the demon race hierarchy to one day reclaim his former title and status.

How the heck is this only get 3.9 stars?

As far as I read, It is enjoyable to read and has great story potential.

For me, this kind of story is new, Demon King who sacrifice himself to make peace then reincarnating after 2000 years to (try) "enjoy" the peace that he was made.

... more>> I love this kind of novel which build up the story plot at the beginning.

And let's make a better objective reasoning: It has more than 400 chapters and has 2 Light Novel published.

Meaning: He got enough fanbase and the publisher judge that it is worth enough to be published.

I rarely give reviews, but this novel sure deserve better treatment.

Those who gave 1 stars really do not understand, 1 is for the worst of the worst.

If I can precisely give the number, this novel should be around 4, 5 stars

Because "Mushoku Tensei" has covered all I needed and it was deserved the best novel even after I read for 4+ years <<less

This is an edge-lovers wet dream, it's the perfect power trip for people tired of pretend antiheroes, this MC is brutal and unrepentant.

It's got some slice of life and gory dark humor in it as well.

This is the type of popcorn novel we dark fantasy lovers crave.

The manga is being TLed as well, it's on Mangadex if anyone is interested.

So far typical fantasy school novel with OP protag, been there seen that. The premise reminds me of Shikkaku Mon a bit, but less thrilling and incredibly more stupid. Other reviewers didn't joke about turning off your brain when reading this.

There are reviews which critics the story so far, but do try to stick until the chapters gets translated to 35-37 and above. I can read some Japanese so it does get so much better that it will feel like reading a lighter, faster-paced and a more comedy-oriented version of Tensei Slime in a school setting. Once the MC gets his first close male friend at the academy (he too gets his own girl) and adds more other girls to his list of secret admirers (the 2 main... more>> heroines are still the closest to the MC) it gets much better.

Currently at chapter 7 the story has not even reached 1 percent of the meat of the story, so please reserve judgement until at least chapter 35, as the story gets more gripping and edge-of-your-seat as more powerful enemies shows up in later arcs. The requirements for liking this novel are quite simple, and they are : 1. You find the MC cool and badass. 2. You find the girls cute and strong. 3. You find MC's male buddy and his GF as cool and interesting characters.

The enemies in the first few arcs might seem like cannon fodder to serve as plot conveniences to make the MC and his comrades look super OP, cool and strong, but if you be patient there will be stronger antagonists in later arcs that could provide better challenge to the MC and his friends.

At the very least, the story will have much better characters that you actually care a lot about compared to most other template harem JP novels where MC's male friend doesn't play any big role in the story and where there are no big stakes involved in threats to the world and MC's friends. In fact, I can argue that this novel is the best JP fantasy magic school action novel I have ever read so far, as it doesn't depend on much Ecchi fanservice, and has a much more interesting plot than any reincarnated MC novel or fantasy academy novel. <<less

I think its safe to give this story the hot garbage label.

Its the kind of story where you have to turn your brain off lest you become disgusted with it. Ignoring how the whole reincarnation schtick is just an overly complicated way of saying time travel (cuz he spends all of a few seconds as a baby), alot of his decisions are nonsensical and lack self awareness.

Constantly killing and reviving people, turning people into zombies with wuxia mob like cannon fodder in a school setting? The protagonist also comes off... more>> as a mild sociopath, like that one friend who lords over how much better he is at this one thing. Like when you play smash ultimate and he combos you as a beginner to infinity while guffawing, "why cant you do this? Its so easy!"

My rating: 10/10 Definitely recommended for the NU readerbase <<less

Tips : Dont thinking too much while reading this. Dont apply common sense too, common sense-chan would be dying.

The story is about MC who are too op, so he decided to reincarnated to future instead. The MC is goddamn overpowered because he is basically godfather of demon. Then after reincarnated, he entered academy to become demon king.

World building left hanged unexplained. They basically doesnt explain how much race, civilitazion, god structure things, detail in this world, basically NOTHING. Also pace is terrible, its like suddenly it has been month and... more>> he going to academy and messing arround. Common sense-chan is dying. Basically I have no idea why the MC entered academy, since he is stupidly OP he could entering palace and take down the demon king current era. Other character also mindless like villain on CN novel, they know MC is op yet they keep challenging him just to get face-slapped.. So much other things defied common sense.

Overall you could enjoy this if you want to read something that doesnt involved drama and MC sure always winning. Once again, dont think too much when reading this :D <<less

Start with demon king and hero want to make peace and they succeed (???) after that it become slice of life series with comedy where only MC who think straight. How about other, they become idiot, dumb, mindless npc. Up to chapter 20, this become very annoying

Really can't stand it, I want to give 1 star but I only read the first 20 chapter and maybe this series become better in the future, so 2 star

Normally I at least finish the first book or arc before writing a review since there's always a chance the ending could save or ruin the book. I'll never know since I gave up on this before then.

First off, the English title of this novel is a lie. Here it's called "The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody".

The "Demon Lord" is just a good guy who does good things because he's just so good. Yes, he's a demon lord, but he might as well have been called... more>> a hero or god.

While that isn't technically a lie, this is. He isn't reborn as a nobody. He's reborn as the son of people who are basically heroes, and he still has all his power.

Here's the thing. Even when he was the demon king he was already basically the most powerful thing ever. And now that he's reborn in the future the power level of the general population has gone way down. So the MC is now basically so powerful that basically nothing could possible pose a challenge to him.

But I suppose if you're looking for a generic power fantasy... look elsewhere. Because the characters, writing, plot, etc. are so bad that each one of them alone would knock this down to 1 stars even if the other aspects were good.

The MC is particularly unbearable. Basically he's a romcom protag in a power fantasy. The author pretends he's a loner even though in both lives he was loved and worshiped by everyone. And with that romcom protag status, he's also a complete idiot.

But his stupidity doesn't cause funny misunderstandings, it just makes you sigh as you go through the same tired "look at how op the MC is" over and over. The author seemed to want to cram as much as these in as possible. But the only way they could justify doing this was dumbing down the MC as much as possible.

The MC will do some magic which is basically the strongest magic ever to everyone around him. Then they'll tell him that he's being op because the author needs to make sure you get your power fantasy. Then the MC goes, "oh, ok. The power level has gone down. I'll tone it down". He doesn't want to stand out because the author wants to do that fake humility thing.

Then he does it again over and over as if no one ever told him how op he was being even though they do it every single time.

Most of his thoughts also just makes my eyes roll. For example, at one point he's attacked and here's what's said.

“No, Ard!”
Wow, to think that even their screams would be nearly identical.

Someone is being attacked and he's surprised that the girls around him would call his name. The fact that they both said it isn't even worth commenting on. It's what happens.

There's also some unjustifiably bad reasoning for the things he does. For example, there's a technique to use magic that he never spread because of something about it being weak? Even though it's so easy to use that anyone can use it, it uses no magic, it's quick enough to use in actual combat, and he uses it to complete destroy something that's supposed to be super strong. But no, clearly it's weak enough that there was no need to spread it.

It felt like the author was trying to be smarter than they actually are, and I almost stopped reading right there. But unfortunately, I kept reading.

What made me finally quit was this.

At one point the MC gets baited into an obvious trap that was set for essentially no reason. He easily kills everyone but the leader to question him, but doesn't bother to restrain him or anything. So obviously the bad guy escapes because it never occurred to the MC to do the obvious thing.

So he chases after the bad guy who takes a hostage. People start panicking. The MC decides the best course of action is the announce that he's the son of the hero even though he doesn't want to stand out.

I was like, he could have just killed the bad guy, or put everyone around him to sleep, or use some sort of illusion magic. But maybe that magic doesn't exist?

But then the bad guy realizes his hostage is gone because the MC already saved her (instead of just killing him) and tricked him with illusion magic. Then he kills him after the author makes sure you got your epic power fantasy moment without questioning him, even though that's the only reason he didn't kill him.

Then he meets the queen and she asks him to impregnate her.

The other characters aren't any better by the way. They're all flat and one dimensional. And most of them are in love with the MC just because. There's absolutely no chemistry between them and they're not funny.

The author really doesn't put into work into characterizing any of them. They need a heroine so there's a girl that follows him around. They need a harem so they make another girl. They need a antagonistic noble so they have them say this: "This is why I’d proposed we completely purge all of the lower class!" No one is stupid enough to actually think this a good idea.

The author also doesn't bother to make natural scene transitions. It's like they took a bunch of random scenes they wanted, put them back to back, and thought it was good enough.

For example, the author wanted the MC to go on a three way date. So a girl asks him out completely out of no where. But they couldn't be bothered to write any romance so they just skip over the date to an info dumb about what his old subordinates were like. Need to a fight a secret organization? Just make it a completely random encounter. I guess we're meeting the queen now. No need to charm her, just have one of the first words out of her mouth asking him to impregnate her.

This novel is so bad that I don't want to waste anymore time talking about it even though there's so much more to criticize. Don't bother reading it. <<less

Long story short? Extremely entertaining.

Seriously this series is just a ton of fun. Initially I was a bit worried. It has some red flags like the tired reincarnation trope, the whole "omfg they cannot properly gauge this guy's power so he's considered inferior but he's actually not" cliche, and some others. Most of that is properly explained later, but that's actually not important. What carries this novel is pretty much Arnos Voldigod. He's the mudafcking Demon Lord reincarnated, and he gives no sh*t about whatever plebs think. He does as... more>> he pleases for fun and no one can stop him. So some hoity toity nobles say some stupid stuff about him not being a proper noble? He doesn't care one bit about the bugs lol. I really like how he's pretty much just lulzing around. Arnos is confident in his own strength and just does whatever the hell he wants for his own reasons. There are some people wondering why the heck he's even in the Academy. After all they literally have nothing to teach him. The thing is, he's there because he finds it amusing. It might seem like it doesn't make sense, but Arnos IS the rules. His whim is all that matters hahahaha.

I also rather like the supporting characters Misha and Sasha. So far I admit they haven't had much of a chance to break out of their archtypes, but the first arc involving them was pretty darn touching. It's mostly the way they interact with Arnos that's fun to see. Sasha is mostly a typically tsundere, but Arnos is too smooth for any tsundere pussyfooting and tackles her head on.

Overall I'm totally down to see more Demon King/Founder shenanigans. <<less

The teaser to this story makes no bloody sense if he is tired of war and reincarnated into a future where everything is a bit too peaceful why does he even care?

He got what he wanted why would he even care if he is no recognised?

He can just show his power if and when it's needed.

I tried to give this a shot eventhough the synopsis sounded incredibly cliche.

-Full use of magic powers from the get go

-One of the cliches I hate the most - overpowered MC meets small fry that's asking for a beat down; is only put there to allow MC to demonstrate how OP he is

-Good translation but the narration is really light on setting the scene

Nope, I couldn't bear to read any further.

It may not be everyone's cup of Tea, but give the story a chance. For me the story got me from the start, for a light read before sleep it was an instant hit and now added to one of my 300ish others, which sadly this year haven't gotten major updates.

Character wise there all fun, the two sisters and their problem as well as the MC, who is taking a refresh in his life of war and reborn 2k years later.

Just remember we are at an age that everything's been... more>> wrote and read, maybe there is 20 similar reads out there but the style here is what got me. <<less

arrogant narcissistic MC to the point where it's incredibly obnoxious. The MC resembles the stories you'd hear from people lying about life experiences like showing a teacher how to actually teach then being told to teach the class.

The author also glosses over so many things that should actually be an issue and tries to play it cute, like the MC being under a year old yet turning into a full grown adult and bring home girls.
