6th book in Yuan Yuan’s series 老梗也是梗系列之(AKA We were supposed to have died in a plane crash, instead we transmigrated). The stories consist of three modern settings and three historical.

Luo An Hai didn’t expect that one day she would witness her own funeral.

The last thing she remembered was being on a plane to England for business negotiations. If she had succeeded then the majority of shareholders would vote her way, and she would become the CEO of Luo’s company.

But she didn’t expect the plane to crash.

Her last thought was that ten years of hard work fell down the drain. She had endured ten years living at the Luo Mansion, and fought to keep the homewrecker and the homewrecker’s son, Han Ding Rui taking Luo’s company from her hands.

She couldn’t accept the moment her dream was within grasp, her life would end in a plane crash.

A second after the plane crash, she was standing in front of her tombstone.

Her father had aged since the last time she saw him.

She froze. Unexpectedly her father was sobbing at her funeral. She hadn’t called the aged man her father since their estrangement the day he brought home the homewrecker and Han Ding Rui.

She resented her father for marrying her mother for money. Her mother loved her father deeply. But what did her mother receive? Her mother ended up dying of a lonely heart.

She dedicated her life to opposing her father, the homewrecker, and the homewrecker’s son. She hated them and treated them badly… so why are they grieving? Why does Han Ding Rui stare at her photo?

Suddenly she is given a second chance, but will things be different?

This is an good short romance. Tip for new readers: the missing chapters (from the other translator, whose site has been offline for the past year) are on those novel stealing sites. This is probably the only time I'll ever advocate using them.

The scum father and the mistress got off to easy. Their actions led to her mothers death. OF COURSE SHE HATES THEM. Her father married his mistress who CAUSED HER MOTHERS DEATH in three months after her mother's funeral. What hole did that man have to think her daughter would respect him and the mistress? I wish I could be her for a day and slap him.

To be honest I want her to continue to hate them. I wanted her to leave them and start a new life for herself.
Spoiler

Her father simply is a piece of tr*sh. I can understand he’s a dirty cheater but to get married three months after his wife's died without thinking about his daughter's feelings?!! He even wanted her to great his mistress!! That a whole new level of being tr*sh. Being a dirty cheater aside he wasn’t worthy of being a father!! Her mother died because of his affair. He didn’t wait for his daughter to get over her mother's died. He didn’t make time for her. He didn’t make an effort so she can accept his marriage. He didn’t take her opinion. He didn’t consider her sensitive age at all. She was a teenager! And that mistress if she really is a good person shouldn’t she at least tell the MC father to wait for more?! Just like the MC said at the beginning it’s so disgusting when they act innocent. The ML is crazy too. He knows everything but blames the MC for not liking her father!! Is he crazy?!! He told her that her father loves her but he doesn’t know how to act in front of her. He can be so gentle with you as his mistress’s adoptive son why can’t he be like that with his own daughter?!!

HOW DEAR HE BLAME HER

She’s already so nice to her father. She gave him so many chances. If it was me I would abandon that tr*sh.

He even compares her with the ML ! Is he serious?! Of course, the ML will be sensible and obedient! First, you are so gentle to him unlike your harsh treatment towards your daughter! Second, you give him and his mother shelter. You destroyed your family for them.

I hate that she forgives them. They don’t deserve that.

NO ONE NEEDS THEIR CHEAP AND FAKE LOVE.

I hate the fact they are living well now after all the pain they caused.

I’m so angry and sad.

I think the best scenario is the ML fall for the MC then he starts chasing her. After that, the MC would let her father knows so he regrets what he did to mother-son.

Unfortunately, life isn’t fair and tr*shy people have a happy ending.

[collapse]

Spoiler

I really pity the MC. Just because her father cried after her death she forgives him! That's alone shows us how much he hurt her. To the point, she didn't expect him to cry after her death!!

I don't recommend this novel to anyone. Unless you love to make yourself suffer then this story is for you.

The story is very bittersweet. Although I think the smut is not really needed, but it showed how they actually felt for each other.

Luo An Hai's resentment towards her father and stepmother was solved through some interactions showing that they did care for her but I felt that it wasn't enough. The greatest factor here is Luo An Hai seeing them cry in her funeral. In her 2nd life, the ending is still incomplete for me but at least it's better and Han Ting Hua's wish came true.

I felt that ML didn't empathize with the FL. He kept saying that she should stop being rude to her father and that her father loves her but it's only her who can't see it. If he really understood her struggles then he shouldn't have said that. Her as*hole father had completely ruined her childhood and made her mother die and they expect her to be okay with her father marrying his first love three months after her mother's death and bringing that woman and her adoptive son to their... more>> home. I really felt so bad for the FL in this story. The only good thing that happened to her was that she got her happy ending with the man she fell in love with. <<less

At first I did not understand why even though the comments said that the story was good, the smut was good, they were unhappy in the end, now I know. There is too much of Chinese culture in this story, in Chinese culture filial piety goes above all, even if parents ruin and torment the lives of their children with their actions, they do not feel that they owe their children any explanation, that Their children do not have the right to hate them, much less to show it openly,... more>> they believe that just because they have given them life that justifies everything they do, they do not even think about what kind of life they are giving them, for them That is not important, they believe that age invokes respect without even considering if they have earned it, for them respect is not earned, it is demanded, and this thought is so ingrained that everyone in the novel acts as if it were wrong was the daughter for holding a grudge, And that is something that we Westerners do not understand! Actions are worth more to us than unnourished ties, we are not moved by this type of father, who cheats on a woman, lets her die of depression, after three months brings another woman into the house, does not take care of his daughter, but the son of the other woman because he feels that compared to his daughter who bears a grudge against the boy who only flatters him, he is more pleasant, giving him even more value and status than his own daughter. For us these kinds of things are really unforgivable! If in the novel there had been a denouement where the protagonist reprimanded the father and claimed him for all the things he did and stopped doing with her, telling him how that had greatly affected his life, making him insecure and distrustful, and that he regretted their actions, THAT WOULD have satisfied the hearts of all the readers of this novel, but unfortunately for us that is also part of the BLESSED Chinese culture, in Chinese culture children MUST NOT under any circumstances criticize their parents, as much as the protagonist was able to do was ask her father in the penultimate chapter if he hated her so much and that was it, from there she could not happen any more, for the Chinese that was already a great impact on the novel, for us Westerners, we leaves unsatisfied... <<less

My grade for this is actually 3.5. It's not going to reach 4, but considering that some readers rate this lower than three, I'm rounding up just to even that out. It's entertaining enough for me, but then again, I don't have any problem from some of the heavier topics. (Kudos to the translator for doing such a good work with the s*x scenes; on average I'm rating that aspect somewhere between 4 and 4.5).

My bottom line for most stories is consent, and here, no matter how many issues Luo... more>> An Hai (the MC) has or what she does to push him away, the ML doesn't care about it. If he doesn't care about it, then I don't. She has his consent. So, yeah, I can roll with this.

Story Background: Luo An Hai, an estranged heiress and CEO died in a plane crash, only to see one of the people she hated the most (that's her dad, btw) cry on her grave, looking as if he'd aged ten years in a single night and even his current wife looked disconsolate. What she couldn't understand was her step brother's behaviour after her death, years afterwards, even. He inherited her parents' house, but he kept her room the same way it was, kept it clean, and always stayed in it every once in a while.

She was reborn into her younger self once she saw him waste away to death, not even bothering to try healing his cancer. Stunned with what she knew of their characters, she decided to take a slightly different path in life. She could send a little less hate on her father and his new family, was what she thought.

Whose to Blame For All the Family Drama?

Before you go any further, at least keep this in mind: her father is a moron. If there was anyone who contributed the lion's share of everyone's suffering, it's him (like, I'll put at least 50% of the blame on him). Why? His wife had just died three months ago, and he's already trying to remarry. I don't blame him for falling in love--I blame him for thinking with his little head instead of his big head. His outside woman had been waiting all this time, would it really kill her to wait for another year or so? No. So, why the rush? It's not like she was even pregnant!

He never tried to talk to his daughter, to have some dialogue, to be close to her and listen to her fears and hopes that would enable him to understand her character. Three months after his wife's death, he expected his young, early teen daughter to leave her room, and then welcome his new wife and her adopted son? When she's clearly still grieving? Is he brain-damaged?? Some people can really be idiots in some aspects of their life.

Now that you all know who's the one that's the most responsible for this shitshow of a situation, we can move on.

Basic Characters:

Luo An Hai: Our grieving and inwardly raging heroine, has a (deserved) reputation of being an ice princess.

Luo Cheng Hai: The idiot dad. Enough said. If I don't hold myself back, anything after this is just going to be unprintable words. He improves marginally, but he still doesn't escape my scorn. He's the parent--he should act like it first before expecting anything of his daughter.

Mai Fang: The second wife of the Luo Cheng Hai. She actually knows her place as a second wife, in that she's aware that Luo An Hai would look at her as if she was an eyesore. She never complained whenever Luo An Hai was cold to her (or, in her previous life, just upturned the plate of cooking she made, something she didn't do in this life), accepting the cold shoulder and dislike as her due. She does love Father Luo, but she also has the consideration of giving her adopted son a better life by marrying someone well off.

Han Ting Hua: Adopted son of Luo Cheng Hai, he's also the adopted son of Mai Fang. Luo An Hai firmly doesn't want to think too much about what his 'foolishness' of staying in her room often after she died, not having any lovers and dying of cancer without trying to cure it meant. (She's got a lot of practice in building walls as well as denial).

He could actually hold his own in their battle of wits. His mother had told him to take care of her and never offend her, and he proceeds to do just that because he's a responsible kid with a thick skin. For some reason, even after she'd graduated and they're both adults, he's still fixated on her. That definitely wasn't due to his mother's request.

If anyone wonders about their age gap at the beginning... Luo An Hai tried to avoid him all the time during their teenage years and basically push him away. She didn't take advantage of his youth.

Things to Watch Out:

Luo An Hai builds walls like she's trying to keep barbarian hordes out. Her tongue is sharp and her insults are pointed, especially when it comes to Han Ting Hua. If you don't have the constitution or preference to weather such things, then this story would be too much for you.

The insults: The other reason as to why she could be so fast and loose with her insults (before she stopped denying things so much) is also because Han Ting Hua has such thick skin and indifference. Even if she doesn't realise it, she's frustrated for not being able to penetrate his block face, so she keeps trying to find more and more outrageous things to say to push him away. Just because she doesn't like him (by association) doesn't mean she was happy seeing him waste away after her death. It would be simpler, she thinks, if he would just hate her.

The Father and Daughter Needs A Bloody Counselor. Yes, both of them: Ironically, if it wasn't for either Mai Fang or Hua Ting Hua, I'm half convinced that one of the Luo family member would've sent the other to the emergency room sooner or later. I can easily see Luo Cheng Hai throwing something at his daughter to injure her, and she'd easily do or say something to give him a coronary or a stroke.

Luo Cheng Hai can't even communicate his pride of his daughter to her, every time he faces her, all that came out is his disappointment. Luo An Hai is slightly better; she avoids him because she's tired of fighting him, but if he insists that she be nice and polite to the other two members of their family when she's still holding back her grievances, then her sharp tongue is all he'd ever get from her.

Luo An Hai can't help but suspect that he's a masochist: This is one of the lines that she thought about Han Ting Hua, and yes, I did have shades of that thought about him too.

The more Han Ting Hua tries to confront her to drop her denial and avoidance of him, the more she rages at him. She doesn't want to end up living a life of misery like her lovestruck mother. He doesn't even let her face that gently, but provokes it all at once, even if it meant that she threw a glass at his head, etc.

Do any of the above sound like a no-no for an entertaining and distracting read to you? Then avoid this novel.

TL;DR: Estranged heiress with a metric ton of family issues is reborn with a new perspective on her father, stepmother and stepbrother. She lives second life hating them less and just wants to avoid them instead. Her stepbrother's crush on her stays the same, but this time, the few moments of kindness she showed him among her thorns steeled his determination enough to push him to give chase.

Her attachment and abandonment issues hasn't pushed him away. It's probably because he'd already become somewhat obsessed after all these years that he doesn't give a damn about the price as long as she'd admit her interest in him and let him love her. Solid s*x scenes. <<less

This really isn't an original plot (time travel/second chance), but still, the way it's written/translated will get you interested. I personally like stories with this kind of theme so I am particularly choosy with what I read when time travel is the focus as I easily get bored as the story progress. It is still in it's early chapters so I really can't tell but from what I've read so far, I'll read into it more and then wait and see. Anyway, I think most translations done by trungtnguyen123 is... more>> always interesting so I have high expectations on this one. <<less

I accidentally gave this 2 stars, it should have been one.

I guess I’m in the minority here, as I’m not focused on the dad cheating and how she shouldn’t forgive him. I don’t care about her revenge, I think it was a waste of her time and rebirth. If you truly want to get revenge on people, you live your life well without them and stop being focused on the past, which can’t be changed.

I’m baffled by all of it because I don’t think it makes sense that he ever... more>> liked her in the first OR second life. I genuinely do not understand how their relationship developed from either side. People are praising this as well written and touching, and I’m sitting here going “WTF is happening?” The characters are cardboard caricatures and neither FL or ML are likable. <<less

It is a fact that her father cheated on her mother and married the homewrecker just three months after her mother died of deppression. And her father? He pays attention to his stepson more just because of the fact that he is a sensible child. Honestly, how do you expect a 14 year old child to be so sensible and not hating you for the fact that you inderectly caused her mother's death? I just feel so bad for the MC and the fact that the MC's anger, frustation, and... more>> sadness are solved just like that make me even more angered. I understand that the author wanted to make the MC get the love and happiness she deserves, and not living her life out of hatred, and the happiness she means in this way is that for the MC to be able to completely let go of hatred, living a stress-free life without minding her hatred with her family. But I feel bad for the MC with how her pent up frustation was solved just like that. I just feel that the MC is just too softhearted... <<less

The story is very satisfying and I love how their relationship is like S&M.

The novel started it on how she loathed him and how she fell in love. Well, I think the reason why she probably fell in love is because of the scene where he always cry in her bed when she died, that scene that always relapse when she always sees him is probably the factor why she fell in love and greatly contribute to the story. Surprising amount of storyline progression despite being a short read, BUT overall this can be summarized as frustrating, disappointing lack of character development, and unrealistic/random flow of events.

  • FL doesn’t exactly make the best of her opportunities to rekindle her family relationships in her second life. Granted her family situation sucks, but she is an ~30 year old woman who regressed back to being 14 years old so I expect her to be more mature.
  • Her scumbag father still sucks and always finds a reason to raise her voice at her, often when he doesn’t know the whole story
  • Spoiler

She was targeted by a gang when she was a kid (how is this even realistic that there would be delinquents outside her wealthy school who randomly have knives and want to attack her??? And then Han gets hurt to protect her but her dad immediately scolds her when she gets home. Also wtf he randomly threw a HOT teapot at her head after summoning her home. This is messed up on so many levels and in the story, the author just shrugs off violent events.

    [collapse]
  • The flow of events was choppy and the progression of the story wasn’t smooth. Also if FL is a successful entrepreneur (investor and hotel owner) at the age of 21, this means ML is 17 when the story takes place (they’re 4 years apart). This puts him as a fresh college student and UNDERAGE when all the snusnu happens.

I agree with FYalimar. This story could be really good if the father just go to hell. I repeatedly sympathized with the female lead and almost went crazy in anger because of how oppressed she was. She actually had the least fault in this if you accounted all her sufferings too.

She was stuck with mentally ill mother who was so heartbroken and depressed because her husband cheated and played with women outside even though she loved him so much. Her father did not care for her, he felt entitled to... more>> everything and his daughter, who has grudge against him for being a terrible human being, was like an eyesore to him.

The FL, instead of being properly raised, was stuck in an extremely broken home. She felt replaced by the ML and his mother, might I say, a mistress and her unrelated son. Her anger, hatred, resentment, were all logical. If I was in her place, I would react worse than her. The novel conformed too much with China's "respect elders" thing, even though your elders were basically a**holes that ruined your life, childhood, and continuously made you feel not enough as a human being throughout your life, you still have to respect, love, and kiss up your elders. Load of shit.

The ML also did not help much actually. I still felt so suffocated by the end of story for the FL, because I know deep down those wounds are still eating her alive but society and norms made her humbly lower her head. <<less

Such abusive relationship between MC and ml, it's too heavy for my taste.

The whole family is messed up.

Mc's Father

Spoiler

In one word Mc's father is j*rk: married to Mc's mother for business, he willingly married then had an affair despite having a child. He says married then married when he wants divorce then divorced. WTH!!??? At least he should've waited for mourning period to end before bringing a mistress home, to show some respect to mother but that sh**ty father brought the mistress in 3 months and daughter don't have right to object, huh!? Before u neglected her then u berated her for every thing and finally, always praising ML but ignoring Mc's efforts. What's the use of crying after she died!???? Saying u couldn't say because of pride is just a excuse, okay!!!
Ml's mother

she is really.... ugh. When she knows mc's father is married why the hell did she continued her affair with him. Also agreeing to enter the house during mourning period to further aggravate the situation. Even a child would understand the situation, what was she thinking ? Then acting like a white lotus to mend the relation between father and daughter, doesn't she know that her position as the former mistress will only make it worse.? What's the point of crying?

[collapse]

MC always beats ML whenever feeling irritated and unhappy. Nothing changed in her personality after rebirth, a stubborn, prideful, arrogant and hardheaded. Ohh childish also.

ML always gets beaten either physically or verbally. Still, he loves her. Man, u r just asking to be abused aren't ya?!!

Maybe to those who are into abusive romance type genre this novel may be good. It's just a matter of preference. Please don't take offence. <<less

I honestly don't remember much from reading this, but I do remember the frustration of how she was given a second chance at life to deal with her family, when it should've been her family begging for a second chance with her.

I gave this 3 stars instead of 2 for 2 reasons:

  1. MC has a well developed character, I don't care half as much for the ML though I'll admit they had some sweet moments together.
  2. I realised that there's no point in MC staying angry.
    Spoiler

So what if they don't deserve forgiveness? Will it bring back her mother? Her whole life revolved around the anger she had for that worthless father and his mistress and was wasted just like that. It was therefore better to let it go, not for them, but for herself.

    [collapse]
2 reasons why I couldn't rate this 4 stars:

  1. The winner in this story is her father.
    Spoiler

The lack of remorse is appalling. He made light of his former wife's life/love/mental health and didn't show an ounce of respect towards her or his daughter. His wife's soul had barely left before he moved in his mistress, not giving his daughter any time to mourn properly over the loss and forced her to put up with it. (I believe he had a certain reason for it, don't remember, but to say there was no other way would be a stretch.) All his wealth is thanks to his dead wife. This guy is a great example of one biting the hand that feeds them.

    [collapse]
  2. Spoiler

I honestly just wanted her to cut them out of her life. She would have forgiven but not forgotten and moved on. Sadly for her, she fell in love with ML who insists she let bygones be bygones, which is something they don't even deserve. The one that should go down on his knees and kowtow to his daughter's feet and former wife's remains, is her selfish and arrogant father. And yet she is the one apologising in the end. How does this make sense?

    [collapse]
This story makes you wish MC was in a different story with a different family or at least with a different ML (Despite his undying love for her).

Honestly, I don't really understand why this has such a high rating. It did not bring forth any tears from me; only a never-ending frustration. There are too many gaps that were left unanswered and undone.

Spoiler

How can I buy into the story that the father actually loved his daughter when in both lifetimes he never showed it? Why did he never believe her and treat her so miserably? Why did he give his stepson a higher position in the company? His grieving at the funeral seemed more like an anomaly rather than truth.

The author also keeps mentioning how her family keeps making her favourite dishes despite never eating it at home. So how DID they know, especially early on in their marriage. I doubt the father who rarely spent time at home would know.

I can easily connect with her frustration and anger of our heroine but can't seem to accept this ending and magical resolution. <<less

This...I guess it's a well written story but it was just frustating to read.

I'll only comment on one thing though.

I find unbelievable the feelings of guilt that the MC has when she lashes out at her father "making him feel bad", and the ML disgusts me because of how entitled he always feels to criticize her when she does that, as if he understood how she felt.

I get that the father was practically the savior of the mother and son pair, so his need to defend him (or whatever) I... more>> understand.

But like, at the hotel scene when he criticizes her for the scene she made when it was obvious, at least to me, how her father diminishes her because of the breakup with that fling of hers or whatever, and then like the ML should have any opinion in the matter tells her off...I was just like so sad that she actually felt bad about it; because I get that a parent would be concerned about the relations of whatever kind that their kids have, but at least I think that if your kid hasn't introduced a lover to you then it means she's not serious about him or at least not sure of the seriousness of their relationship, so that she broke it off when he told his parents and they decided it was time to pick the wedding day wasn't so senseless to me (specially when she said that she told him that it was only a fling).

Let's leave aside the thing about the affair and the father's relationship with the MC's mother (a mother that she loved by the way), just taking into account the father's attitude with his daughter makes me feel that he deserved the cold treatment. Yes he gives her money, but money doesn't give you warmth and how else but unwanted would you feel if when he gets remarried he treats the kid of his wife better than how he treats you, and when you grow up he just knows how to criticize you. And don't start with how the stepmother worries about you, would you feel happy seing every day the living reason of why your mother died depressed (although I'm not saying it's her fault it's duh the father's fault for cheating and the MC's mother's for not letting go and dragging her kid with her into depression) no right? She feels bad about it, and she shouldn't expect to be welcomed by the MC. Honestly the only innocents here are the MC and the ML.

To not make this so long I'll just say that the MC should've left that family (that only knew how to make her feel bitter) behind, to hell with the past life because what's the point of crying for dead people but to release your sorrows, it doesn't count as an apology at all it also doesn't count as making it up to the person you wronged, I'll admit she was already an adult, thrity or something along those lines, so she should've known how to let go of things and find hapiness for herself but I think that that should've been the point of her rebirth? But she never let go of that family... so yeah I guess the point was to get together wiht the ML.

She should've left and been happy with people that weren't part of her bitter and regretful past life is all I have to say. <<less

Gosh. What to say about this. Honestly I didn't like any of the characters, bar the stepmother surprisingly, they are just too stuborn and a bit emotionally thick. Really low EQ. I found it hard to relate to them because I just don't think I would make the same decision cisions even after putting myself in their shoes. Soo frustrating. Grrr.

OK mow to explain why I have it 5 stars. No it wasn't a misclick. I read this story in one sitting and found it to be terribly well written.... more>> The author manages to create a hopeful trainreck in that no matter how illogical the characters decisions are there is still that tiny sliver of hope for them to redeem themselves. Which most of them do. Mostly.

Spoiler

Lastly a shout out to the stepmother. The only mature adult in the entire story. She makes mistakes and then she owns up to them. She knows she shouldn't have had the affair but she had been in love with the father since before he was forced to marry the MCs mother. She also knows that this terrible decision ruined what was left of the parents marriage and kinda screwed up the MC a bit. Let me make myself clear I'm super against extra marital affairs but after the dust settled she actually tried to be classy about things. How many stepmothers, knowing that the stepkid hates them and more importantly that they have the father wrapped around their finger, would try to apologise and make up for the hurt they caused. I mean she did not have to step in and try to help. She probably could have gotten rid of the rude stepdaughter in seconds. She didn't. That's why she is my favourite.

P.S Shout out to those super steamy scenes. Was not expecting them when I cl**ked on this story at all. Talk about coming out of left field ?
