Upon their first meeting, Huo ZhenYe knew that Bai Zhun had a bad temper, a delicate body, and an extremely picky palate.

A person who disliked to interact with the living, he had crafted a whole house full of paper dolls to amuse himself.

Bad-tempered? He can coax him.

A delicate body? He can take care of him.

A picky palate? He can get used to it.

The whole house full of paper dolls can also continue to stay, but he, the Seventh Young Master Huo, needs to be added into the picture.

“Look, you are the Seventh Master, and I am also a Seventh Master. We can go places together as a couple!”

“Besides, how can paper dolls be as good as me?”

It was good, but not enough for me to read it again. The idea was fantastic, the pairing was good too and I loved that they were not really over powered or ambitious but have a real person feeling.

The only problem is not enough rimantic feelings. The way ML pampered MC was fluffy and sweet but it didn't convey that much feelings.

The suspense was good and not over kill and the supernatural was just enough for the story to develop.

I did miss the description and developement of deep feelings between... more>> the couple but it's a good novel for beginner readers of the danmei genre. <<less

2.4 dropped. I agree the idea was interesting but I found just something about the writing both triggering and lacking low-key.

First, the background on the time period etc is not discussed so far but inferred. Perhaps they do it in later chapters, but considering they have not said a word so far, they have already lost me. I don't think this is historical. I think it's a combination of 1900s china with a different world unless "flower girls" was really a truly historically accurate thing that happened before. But this... more>> is where the writing is slightly aggravated me because the background is NOT explained.

We just have to accept 7 supernatural circles exist with modern day cities names, england, cafes, rickshaws, flower girl beauty pageants (for concubines status (?)) with no explanation. None. It annoys me.. Perhaps I'm not reading close enough but it's lacking explanation with an amalgamation of various cultural features that is just "accepted". Whatever. "Don't take it too seriously" sorry I have high standards.

Second, this is a personal thing but the 1st case 100% just triggered me and made me hate the patriarchy again. I almost dropped my phone.
Spoiler

so the 3rd supernatural circle is in "threat" bc the person who took over 3rd master and married the old 3rd master's daughter was implicated in a mu*der of his mistress

    • So his brother asks the MC for help saying the 3rd circle will fall w all of the abilities if the scumball 3rd master goes to prison
    • First of all, I hate this and this is why TIME PERIOD CONTEXT IS IMPORTANT (are we just supposed to assume it's natural for any ancient period that daughters have no power??)
    • Second, why can't the daughter lead the 3rd circle
    • Why didn't her father teach her the methods
    • Why can't she divorce this cheater
    • Idk what time period is this and is divorce stit looked down upon??
      [collapse]
THIS IS WHY CONTEXT IS IMPORTANT and why this writing annoys me because it just seriously skips lack of depth when it could have been done easily.

Second another example of the patriarchy: the rich ML just become a police consultant bc he wanted to. Idk if I missed it, but what the f*ck did he even graduate from? Criminology?

Hm I don't think so. But glad he can just be a police consultant just cause he's curious about the MC. Yeah I'm pretty sure that's the reason. Smh. <<less

A very interesting story about psychic detectives in Shanghai during the era of Republic of China (after the fall of Qing dynasty, prior to Japanese invasion). The author expertly illustrated this atypical historical background and combined it with Chinese supernatural powers, so we could immerse ourselves in the story.

MC and his love interest are equally smart and complement each other. Both are also highly skilled in each of their own trades. This results in a beautiful relationship that develops smoothly along the story.

I would recommend it for anyone who loves... more>> ghost-hunting detective stories, has interest in Republic of China timeline, and could tolerate boy's love. Just don't expect anything more than passionate kisses and innuendos for the romance part, because there are less sexy scenes and more suspense (the genre is "shounen ai" instead of "yaoi" or "smut"). <<less
