The moment the little tyrant of the nobles, Roel Ascart, saw his stepsister, he recalled his memories. He realized that he was in the world of a gal game he played in his previous life. To make things worse, he was the greatest villain in the common route of the game!

“I’ll be killed by the main character and the four capture targets ten years from now. Is there still any hope for me?”

Just thinking about the fearsome glints of those sharp swords those beautiful capture targets held in their hands, Roel couldn’t help but tremble in fear.

Till a voice finally sounded in his head.

It's a harem story through and through. While a well built harem story may not as bad, here all the story revolve about the harem members. And the ages of the MC and harem is way too young, you may ignore the age to enjoy the story but then the author remind you about it each here and there.

It's actually very good. Despite all the other review which downplay this book, I decided to give it a try and I enjoyed it. The world building is especially great. The story also progressed nicely (its slow but enjoyable). Over all enjoyable experience

I have really mixed feelings about this. It's a good novel, and it's very good for a Chinese webnovel, but it just doesn't quite fit my tastes.

Now, I will describe some elements of the novel.

The premise is pretty cliche. The whole [entering the game's/novel's world] setting is all over the place, so it's nothing new. It's not a fanfic, coz the author made up the game. However, premise aside, the setting is amazing. The author has put so much effort into crafting the world compared to your average webnovel that... more>> you can't help being amazed. The history, the countries, damn, there's even a great amount of cultural settings and social settings (since MC is born as a noble). It may get a bit boring or overwhelming at times, but you can't help but admire the sheer amount of effort put into the setting.

The power system isn't really great imo. I am not particularly impressed or interested when it comes to some of its elements. However, it seems rather coherent, and I don't really have anything bad to say about it, either.

The plot itself, well, is sometimes interesting and sometimes boring. I think it's written well, but it's also nothing to write home about for me (but I'm a picky reader, so there's that too). Now, I more or less lost interest in reading further (there's like 100-120 translated chapters that I haven't read yet, and I don't want to touch MTL, so no real reason to trudge on, and I'll perhaps return later to read on). However, slightly lackluster plot is only a secondary reason.

The main reason why I don't want to read it anymore, and the reason why I grade the novel only 3 stars and have mixed feelings about it, is the protagonist. Don't get me wrong, he's written well, and there's both character growth and ability growth that is rather satisfying. MC's character is more or less okay too (I won't go into details, since plenty of reviews do just that, probably lol). The main gripe I have with him is that he's... a beta MC in the end.

Yes. The guy got transmigrated into the body of a villain, he's part of badass nobility (one of top 4 (?) families in the kingdom), and he's decisive when it counts, but the only part where his decisiveness and composure fly out of the window is when he interacts with his love interests... This somewhat ruins his characters for me, and I specifically dislike this sort of protagonist too, so I'm dissatisfied with him. It's annoying to read his interactions with the harem sometimes. Well, the original villain in the game was killed by the harem together, so I understand that he is somewhat fearful of them, but even when he establishes good relations with those girls, and gains confidence that he's avoided the fate of them killing him and there's nothing to worry about, he's still all beta. Yuck.

Also, a small spoiler which is another reason why I don't want to read on:

Spoiler

MC's first time is when he's asleep. He's literally unaware of it, and his "first" woman is someone else.

I really hate this trope. It doesn't happen where I read yet, as I read spoilers on the novel's wiki when I checked something, but damn. This is as shameless as drugging a woman to r*pe her imo. Basically the author doesn't know how to break the ice and get the couple in the bed together, and I hate it when authors come up with some lame sh*t because they can't write a proper romance. That the author proved he can write at least somewhat proper romance doesn't help to absolve him of this.

[collapse]

As for harem, the love interests are written rather well. They are complex characters with their own thoughts, emotions, and agendas. They're definitely very well written, like true humans. This is not 1d, not 2d, but true-blue three-dimensional characters. The way their feelings develop for MC also is nice, with there being an actual basis instead of just throwing themselves at him right from the start (I especially liked the merchant girl, best waifu imo). Which doesn't change that I really dislike the sadistic one, which makes me even less interested in reading this novel because she's a prominent character almost right from the start. The harem in general has too much of a yandere tendency (not actual yandere, but they have potential), whereas the MC is not really interested in looking for romantic partners, and is pretty much overwhelmed by the harem's advances.

So overall, this is a good novel. It's definitely one of the best Chinese webnovels (as far as I read), and is the best when it comes to setting and culture, one of the better ones when it comes to characters and writing about nobility (the author wrote a rather complex and interesting high society instead of going apesh*t on evil burgeouis or something), and rather good when it comes to stuff like fantasy, harem, and romance.

It's just that this novel relies somewhat heavily on preferences. The author didn't try to please everyone, and dared to choose tropes that are reliable but disliked by some readers (or maybe he just didn't know how to write a confident, capable man who doesn't turn beta in relationships...). I can recommend as long as you can put up with beta harem protagonists (it isn't very bad, but it isn't very good, either, and puts me off enough). <<less

World Background: Honestly I have never seen a world building as intricate as this. When you read this novel you can feel the world almost as if you are there. From the life of the librarian to the structure of the building you can imagine it all! And not only that, the world history is amazing too. Most novel might have good worlds but they don't have a detailed history but this one has it.

Characters: All the characters have a habit of jumping into wrong conclusions. But that is what... more>> creates comedy in the story. There is also shipping wars going on LOL. While definitely all of that is unreal but it creates an awesome humor unique to the author. The author is a master of misunderstandings.

MC: I have read till chapter 121 till now and the MC is pretty dense as claimed by the author himself but several characters around him. But I won't say that it's bad specifically for this novel because the MC is just 11 years old now where I am reading. He is not even old enough to have the hormones. You can't expect him to be attracted to girls yet can you? <<less

Overall pretty good, I like the unique character abilities and how they work. I think the main character interacts like a actual person. I think characters are very real too. The only thing I don't like is the whole four girls and one guy. It has been done better and his adopted sister dove straight to stalker and ruined her completely. Now she creeps me out when in the beginning I liked her. Now not so much. Also the angel princess is too weird for me. I cringe when those... more>> two come up to bat which is sad because sometimes they are good characters or were good characters. Now they are just very crass and I get the feeling the same will happen to the other two over time. I want more Paul and main character interactions because together they are pretty good. I just don't like it when they build a character and then are like 'btw they are a creep now'.

It could be better but for what it is it isn't bad. The translation is spot on and I couldn't complain. The author does a good job bringing things back into play and completing stories in a satisfying way. He just kills the girls reps sometimes. <<less

brief summary, the MC gets transported into the world of a 'fire emblem three houses' type game

Overall it's a mediocre novel, don't be fooled just because its a Chinese novel, unfortunately it's just as tr*shy as Japanese light novels. I gave it a fair go given the positive reviews, but it's pretty meh.

first the pros

... more>> excellent translation. Super easy to read, consistent translations and translators do a great job of translating context not just content

great pacing, novel transitions really well between slice of life preludes and backstory build up and high octane action arcs. Novel also builds really well from one arc to the next

Good well developed characters. Look, yes they are a bit tropey and excessively young. But all characters are meaningful and fit well into the story; i.e. There are no throwaway young masters who exist just to progress the plot.

Now the complaints below;

First complaint is the age of main characters, they are all 9-10 years old. No issue with that, except the author has got the MC building a harem. Frankly he could've added 5-6 years to the characters ages, and it would've made the novel much more appropriate

Second complaint is the power system, it's a mix of bloodlines, classes and divine pathways. A lot of terms and categories but no real depth or substance. It's a haphazardly Constructed system with no ability to gauge relative strength levels.

Third complaint is the multiple borrowed concepts, this novel doesn't know what it is. Transmigration, systems, dungeons, slice of life, dating sim etc. There are just too many different elements which don't mesh together well.

4 stars, the story is very cliche and we've got a dense af MC and the novel feels more like a japanese LN rather than a chinese WN. But the world and worldbuilding is pretty great and overall the story is somewhat enjoyable if you're looking for a medieval fantasy. The characters and interactions are pretty solid - which does kinda suprise me as it is a CN WN and most of the time every character outside of MC is brainless and bonus points for not wasting too much words... more>> on antagonists as our MC beats them (and he even beats them not in the CN WN style but more of a JP LN style where our MC's got special stuff). The story actually reminded me of the same feeling as reading Lord of the Mysteries at certain times (when mysteries of the world are being solved). Though as with any CN WN, be prepared for wordy chapters that mean nothing sometimes.

Edit: Alright, went ahead and read the MTL (ch550), after the main encounters with the harem girls, the story really does turn into a Lord of the Mysteries kind of story that has been building up in the subplot. Just after the first year in the academy he starts getting more and more s**ked into the mysteries of the world and history that you forget that it started out as avoiding dying b/c he is a villain in a galge. I would totally recommend reading if you're looking for something similar to LoM (after the first 300 chs), wayy longer then LoM's setup thats for sure. <<less

What can I say. Harem, battles, some kingdom building, aventures, grow, a not so decisive character but I dont think that call him beta is correct (he do put them on order at least once).

Funny story, good world building, good translation with good release on near daily basis.

I think it's quite good.

To be honest, the misunderstandings in this novel is quite low. Almost too low sometimes. Anyways, reincarnation in stories like these have absolutely no bearing to the plot at all (most of the time). Pick up any light novel with reincarnation in it, cut off the part where he reincarnated and boom! There's barely any difference. I kinda just regard the protagonists of these novels as children remembering a little bit about their past life so the underage romance doesn't faze me at all since I... more>> don't really pay much attention to romance (Besides, with the way they're acting you could easily regard them as teenagers).

Why am I rating it 4 stars you ask?

To be honest I meant to click 3 stars but I cl**ked the 4 accidentally. I have no idea how to fix it.

Why did I want to rate it 3 stars you ask?

Because I enjoyed reading the misunderstanding bits... but there ain't enough of them. <<less

Although it's CN I feel like reading JP novel. If you love typical JP webnovel, you can try read this.

My rating 3.5/5

After reading 200 chapter, I can only say 'it's fine'. It's decent writing, the flow and the pace is good.

... more>> Why my rating is low?

The most important thing is the story, I don't know but for me, it failed to deliver when it's on the most important part. There's no excitement whatsoever. After continous building to that moment, it shot itself on the foot.

The plot armor is quite thick, and if only the author add 3 years to them, idk, they act like in their teens. (Most likely there will be timeskip later on (maybe?)) <<less

Another novel with same concept and same settings, basically a copy paste of those " I transmigrated as villain who's gonna die and don't want to involve but somehow get heroins of mc". There's some difference but it still feel I'm reading the exact novel with dumb situations in it.

Great world building, story pacing and overall plot. Many things in the novel is well thought through. One issue I have however is how confusing powers and their respective power levels in this novel. I still find it quite vague as to how much an Origin Level contributes to the actual combat prowess of the character and what exactly it does. Other than this I honestly can find almost no flaws in this novel. But I feel the novel is only this good partly due to the translator. He/She/ Whoever... more>> it is really did a really good job at translating this novel. Vocabulary and grammar was on point and really brought the interactions of the characters to life. <<less

I've only read three chapters but I stopped because this story feels like a really bad self insert fanfiction for a visual novel that doesn't exist. The character spends more than a whole chapter afraid that a little girl will kill him despite the fact that she'll have no reason to unless he acts like the worst human alive. He also thinks about seducing said little girl so maybe he's not so far from the worst. All his other thoughts are around that level of intelligence/creepiness too and he also... more>> gets a system that basically incentivizes collecting a harem. <<less

I really enjoyed this series. The plot is well planned with effective use of foreshadowing. Unlike the many WN's that have events happen out of nowhere by the writer's whims, all the arcs for this series fit together well.

There is quite a bit of explanation text on the power system and heavy focus on the world's history. I am quite fond of reading fantasy history, but if you can't stand explanations and just want action then this is not for you.

I find the romance amusing, but many others find it... more>> frustrating. It's a typical love triangle and the MC is indecisive. The MC is aware of the feelings of the heroines and has feelings for them back, but will not choose one of them. I'm ok with this situation, since the rivalry between heroines are entertaining.

There are many references to internet culture. It's nice when you see a reference. <<less

Surprisingly well-written. Good writing quality and world building, though at times the exposition can be a tad too much, but that's not really much of a problem. Only faults I have is I wish the protagonists were more intimate perhaps, and the romance took the next step, but besides that it's a good novel.

Well, this is actually my first review and I am not a native speaker, so if there is any incorrect grammar or things like that, pardon me.

This novel is good, there is many aspects that I am liking, and I am enjoying reading it daily. The enjoyable part is the main reason why I put 4 stars in my review.

There are topics that other people said about, so I will comment about them:

First, I don't mind at all chapter dedicated to story building, they are a breath of fresh air... more>> that stops the character interactions a bit, and most of it may be used.

There is this thing about the affection points too, it is anticlimatic, but I don't mind at all. I think it gets better on the later chapters.

There is the system too that I agree is a bit... meh. The author should have thought better about it.

Now the main problems:

If you stop to think about their age, the novel becomes all messed up. I understand that important medieval noble kids should mature early, even so, the s*xual innuendo that the author gives to the characters is weird and sometimes gross. I don't really understand why the writer gave their respective ages to the protagonists, if they were older, the plot and the story would be better and the author would be free to put his fetiches.

Another thing, that annoys me: The MC barely use his knowledge about the game, THIS DON'T MAKE ANY SENSE. He was transmigrated, so what?

So, that's about it, the novel have VERY STRANGE aspects and things that don't make much sense. Even so, with the 4 stars rating that I made should be clear that I am liking to read. As I said, the novel is ENJOYABLE and I recommend it.

Truth be told, I don't know who to ship. So until now, both, both are good. <<less

Forced harem, but great translation quality and speed

Guy finds himself reincarnated into the body of the villain from a game he used to play. The novel uses the cliché of the previous inhabitant of the body being almost as terrible a person as possible, and even though he has literally never yet met any of those responsible for killing him in the game before our MC took over the body, he still does a lot of things simply to prevent the "bad end" - treating those around you normally is... more>> not enough for them not to slaughter you? When you were killed for abusing your adoptive sister and being in an evil cult? I can forgive his paranoia slightly though, that didn't bother me too much. What's really bad is how he acts towards one of the capture targets from the game, Nora.
Nora is the princess and an actual sad*st (not just the "fun" anime version, but actually a brutal slaughterer that finds joy in it, though her sadism is still currently in the early stages for her) and MC wants nothing to do with her, rightly so. So he "tries", and big emphasis on the tries, to turn her away but everything he does ends up making her like him more.
The plot will then start to force the ship of the MC and Nora down one's throat, where the plot and logic takes a backseat to forcing the two of them to act together, even though if MC had his say (and he has a big say, but never actually uses it) he would keep his distance.

The way information is handled in the novel is annoying at times, with MC knowing some strange things while not knowing other important information or trying to find out, but that's standard for a lot of novels.

The System is good in that it doesn't force quests on the main character, but bad in its ability to be defined. It's basically a shop, and almost anything can show up in those shops, making for convenient plot-points where the shop just happens to have an item that will then be used for the plot (it hasn't happened much yet, except for saving a person who seems very likely to be a future capture target's father)

The translation is very good though and so is the speed of new releases.

All in all, it has some potential, but is probably better suited for those reading it mainly for the harem-capturing rather than being drawn by the plot and world. <<less

SPOILER FREE

The story is ok till now. I say 'ok', but I haven't really read that much 'story' yet. Not because it's only chapter 26, but because every chapter is 60% exposition dump and 40% story. Much of this exposition dump is, for now, irrelevant to the other 40% that is actually the story

Not that I actually dislike world building. I very much enjoy exploring a new world in stories. But even then 'show, not tell' applies to books, just as it does to movies and other entertainment. There is... more>> no natural progression in getting to know the world. It's reading a history book that has a little letter stuck between the pages with a little story that goes along with the history itself. And sadly it also means that a lot of info is quickly forgotten since it doesn't apply to the story.

As such, I'm currently not comfortable with giving it more than 3 stars.

Why 3? Because I see potential. I can see a reason to keep on reading. And so I do, while skipping 90% of the 60% of each chapter. Shame. <<less

It was the first novel of its kind that I read, and I am really disappointed, The author wrote the novel like a story which is not the way the write a good novel, but even if you disregard that as it is just a webnovel there are many things which makes it a complete waste of time.

The harem aspect is very annoying, I am not against the genre its self but in this novel it is handled very poorly, just because MC is nice to his sister... more>> (adopted) she is head over heels for him, and other such poor aspect that just makes things annoying, but the deal breaker for me for which I don't have a good opinion of the novel is the it is overly sexualized in its effect to make harem interesting.

There is no concrete story as everything is just jumbled up.

Overly all I will not recommend the novel for those who are looking for a decent story, but I have seen many positive review of the novel hence it just might be me who didn't enjoy it. Thus although I would rate it with 2 stars, for the sake of all the people who enjoyed the novel and not to influence its rating because I didn't like the story I will give it three stars. <<less
