OK, so I don't like to give bad reviews of stories until they have a good amount of chapters. I've read 11 chapters and come to a conclusion about this story. Personally it isn't in my tastes, but I understand how it appeals to others. The main character is an airhead that is transmitigrated to a body in the past/alternate universe past. Instead of being some OP female assassin / doctor variant, she seems to be a normal person, albeit seemingly low on IQ. All her actions don't make any... more>> logical sense to me, and feels like a comedic convoluted chaos. It was funny at first but I quickly got tired of the hot mess she seemed to become. Basically a hoe for hot men. While I understand people who are extremely attractive causing some thirst, but does the MC have to become tr*sh and a thirsty hoe around them once she sees their faces. Although she identified as a female, I think she is a male? Not exactly sure, I think the body she is in is male. All I can do is facepalm.
My issue with her name.
Spoiler

I think this story was meant to be comedic, but it goes over the top for me. And don't even get me started on the name. I am a native Chinese speaker (parents are Chinese), but I can't read and write, and I find the name she gave so cringey. Tang Doudou. Duo on its own can mean bean, but when two are put together it sounds like slang for a pimple or zit. Add in Tang which reads like candy, all I get is Candy Pimple. She isn't the one who wants to flip the table I'm the one who is practically flipping tables.

Um, no. The protagonist does NOT have a male body after transmigration. The protagonist is female. She transported into the identity of a female who is cross dressed as a male. So she is known to everyone as a male (despite being female). I didn't even realize people found it to be ambiguous.

Anyways since thats clear, this story is pretty good so far. Fun, almost shameless heroine.

Not sure if she's a guy or a girl yet, because when she thought to reach to her c*otch to confirm, everyone got super triggered cuz they though she was jerking off to their leader.

However so far, her reactions are pretty funny for a transmigrator, so it's worth a read. She's the "average citizen" type of transmigrator, not an expert assassin or anything.

I'm the kind of person who is partially influenced by ratings. Partially because personal interest always trumps whatever views others have of a certain subject. For example, in NU, I usually don't read novels with a 3.9 and below rating, even a 4.0 is already treated with a cold-shoulder but this time PAH's rating is completely thrown out of the window for 2 reasons. First, the genres because I don't read love stories of homos*xual couples as the main plot. Knowing there's only a shounen-ai subplot tag heightened my interest... more>> since reason no. 2, the synopsis, is intriguing to say the least.

So I dove in and did not regret it.

Personally, I think the reason this got low ratings is probably because of mismatched expectations such as it being a BL but finding out in the later chapters that... it's not. Now, I can't vouch for sure that the later chapters will be amazing because at the moment of this writing, I'm only on Chapter 34 but what I've read so far impressed me enough to give a review.

The premise of the story focused on a transmigrated woman masquerading as a man and this disguise is not as flimsy as the usual gender bender facade e.g. bindings around the chest. Aside from this unique circumstances, our MC also did not inherit the previous body's memories and so, she has to wade through the present affairs without any inkling of the invisible bombs she might trigger with her modernist mindset. You might think the comedy tag is because of her ensuing dumb actions and the usual cutesy look to earn the ML's love such as what happened in The Eunuch is Pregnant but that is not the case here. Indeed, our beloved MC is a fish out of the water but what she lacks in information, she makes up in wit and utter shamelessness. She's not a genius yet the brilliance of her mind makes her a formidable opponent against those who wish to bring her down.

To conclude, PAH is a unique gem befitting a five star rating and if you find yourself hesitating, why not try this little beanbean? After all, there's a lot of overrated novels out there that deliver a minimal storytelling and a bland protagonist. Since the translation is excellent and the story flow is paced well plus a character you can actually put your shoes in, this is a guaranteed entertaining read. <<less

The rating is my personal opinion... it's about a female which was transmigrated to a genderconfusing (male or female now?) body.

The MC is no genius or something, but a 'normal' girl that is on the low IQ side and creates chaos and misunderstandings everywhere~, in my opinion she is useless too, having the body but no matrial arts or memory whatsoever from the previous owner.

Her actions itself don't make any sense either, so it can be really confusing to some readers.

Cooking isn't focused so don't expect it to be detailed... more>> about food. <<less

I won't go into a long review as this novel is pretty much a generic transmigration novel. I'll just quickly talk about what's different.

The female MC is INCREDIBLY s*upid. To the point where the humor fades away and you begin getting angry at her. She falls into absolutely every scene put in front of her and is either saved by luck or an explosion of her secret power. Plot armor to the extreme.

Spoiler

A crazy female enemy stabs her TWICE with the intent to kill on different occasions, yet the MC saves her thinking.. "i don't hate her but I don't like her either"..... seriously? She tried killing you the moment she saw you because she loves the Male lead. That isn't being a good person, it's being s*upid.

[collapse]

Absolutely everyone she's close to is hiding everything that happens around her. She mentions once how she hates it, then later just "giggles and bounces around excitedly" because that's her personality. She's done absolutely nothing but act like a moron, yet the Male MC falls into deep love with her, as do so many others. Why?.. there's nothing impressive about her. She's not quick witted, nor crafty, nor brave nor strong. She's not even the best looking there is. Makes 0 sense. After half way through the novel, you just get tired of it.

EDIT: finished the novel and it only got worse. Most of the supporting characters have absolutely no resolution to their side stories, in which a bunch of later chapters are wasted on. The ending is flat out ridiculous.

Spoiler

one of her frenemies dies and she gets so sad she suddenly goes into a 5 year coma... huh?...

[collapse]

So many loose plot threads it's ridiculous. <<less

It is not a HE.

The summary is NOT what the story is about. Very misleading. I would rewrite the summary to what it actually is. And no, it is not a comedy. Cooking is mentioned in a FEW of the chapters. It is mainly about crazy jiangju plot buildings with many nuances and side characters with back stories that aren't answered/explored in the end. I think the author forgot? This novel have an insane amount of loopholes and the author basically summarized a few of the main ones in the... more>> last couple chapters. Early plots are forgotten like important objects that were mentioned or noted by the FL or others. Anyway it led up to the big climate, one ultimate bad guy, but didn't have the climate and everything was glossed and summed over. Basically like driving to go watch a soccer game, arrived, didn't see the game, but know the results.

The FL is quite dumb, so useless, not powerful, depends on everyone else to save her or resolve her problem. The first hundred chapters started out well with good plot building. But the FL kept getting into trouble, near death experiences, and needed a different man to save her each time. The ML falls in love with her too fast for no reason. Other secondary MLs sacrificed so much for her but wasn't mentioned at the end. Like what happened to them?
Spoiler

The twist that the original soul is the Alliance Head but crossed dress as a guy was pretty interesting.

1. The original soul would appeared a few times in the early chapters letting us think that she isn't dead but doing things behind the scenes and raised the intrigues about the green lamps, which btw IS NEVER EXPLAINED in the end. The FL is obsessed with the lamp majority of the novel thinking it can send her back or it had some magical power which sent her to this world in the first place. Later on it just mentioned that the original soul had died. The plot of why she was sent over was never explored although the author kept hinting at it, like it is time traveling? The soul and the FL switched bodies? Whatever happened to the modern body in the hotel?

2. Jun, the 2nd ML IMO, went into a coma and was waiting for treatment to wake up again. Guess what? We will never know if he wakes up. And I feel like he has the most interactions and sacrificed so much for her. He and Mu Ye were the most mentioned going through adventures with FL, not the ML

3. Bai, Beiyuan, good guy suddenly turned evil; had a twin brother who was introduced; then suddenly he himself is the twin brother. (which was mentioned in the last 20 chapters).. so who is who and what happened to the twin brother? Suddenly it is said that he is in love with the original FL without any context to how or why. Apparently he plotted with the ultimate evil guy, Lan, but for what reason? Then he apparently knew the solution to curing the FL's poison - although there are books about curing the poison but the author didn't touch upon that again. How he died was sad though; he basically did a blood transfusion so the FL can be cured. Like Doctor Bang Cao Cao 's two disciples were mu*dered and books from his library was stolen - plot never touched on this again.

4. Mu Ye, probably one of my favorites in the novel. He had so many identities that the author just kept unfolding. It was thoroughly explained how he fell in love with her since they went through so much; he told her the random bones they found in a hill were her parents; he has a second identity in the Seven Saint Tribes which was never explained but mentioned in the last 20 chapters bc he knew so much. He was also poisoned with the Disseminating Fragrance as the FL - so it is assumed that he will die young too?

5. Bai Beiyun's cousin Beiyeu and Qiu whatever are suddenly wanted by the city mentioned in the last few chapters of the novel for doing evil but no context to why.

6. Xiao Qian, secondary side plot evil guy, who is on the "good side" apparently killed his nephew and wife leaving He Qiaohan an orphan plot --- this was glossed over. No idea to why XQ is evil or what happened to him

7. Lan, the ultimate evil guy, has a lot of identities. FL and Mu Yu explored accidentally a few of Seven Saint Tribe sect. The "Ninth Uncle" and the underground/mystery person who is never seen but spoken to FL is what? Yeah, IDK. A ghost? Wasn't mentioned again.

8. Su Yi - so he was in love with FL's mother who had a modern soul? Bc she turned out to be a transmigrator too? So when she and her hubby died, the modern soul is sent back to the modern world? Su Yi and Baili Yu (ML) were trying to find out but this was glossed over. Su Yi decided not to pursue and re-buried the mother's body. So many chapters went into building this plot but the author got lazy?

9. FL's grandfather... who is really her grandfather? Su Yi took FL's mother as a disciple is my understanding? But he fell in love and let the mother fall in love with someone else? So he holds a broken heart while his long time best friend has a crush on him but she isn't mentioned again.

What annoyed me: The FL kept mentioning that she is in love with the ML and adults have s*x when they are married. WHY is this mentioned so many times? Is the FL trying to convince herself to sleep with the ML? Dumb. Her insights are awful, child-like. And the few light bulbs she had aren't fully explored to how she knows of it.

Second annoyance: There is a thing called contractions getting closer when the baby is about to be born. The FL didn't feel this at all and suddenly, bad cramp and the baby is coming? PFFT. The FL has "insights" from blogs/TV she watched in the modern era but apparently she is dumb there too.

FINALLY, why it is not a HE, when Bai Beiyun died, she turned into a "blank state" for five years while her husband is by her side and she ignored the newborn baby she desperately wanted to bring into the world. Then the body suddenly work up but we don't know who is in the body. The original soul? The FL? A new soul? The end. BTW, the ML's Frost poison is never cured so the premise is that he doesn't have long to live either. Why he didn't cure himself wasn't really a reason. So the readers can assume that whoever woke up in that body will be disappointed when the ML dies.

[collapse]

SO the themes of this author is creating multiple identities for everybody, even the ML has a few. No one is who they seemed. Lots of side plot twists that are left untouched. Mindless killing to side characters who gained much traction.
Spoiler

Like I was particularly sad when the FL only know one move which is to immobilize a person so she immobilized her very strong high kungfu maid which led to the maid's death of being killed by an opponent much weaker than her.

just a drama comedy novel. maybe 90% drama + 10% comedy which sometimes not even funny at all.

lots of dragging plot, less actions n decisiveness.

MC hv low IQ n always had a pe*vert mind about goodlooking people, both men n women like shes on heat. Also easily manipulated, take advantages of, or schemed by literally everyone. from her enemies, her friends, her followers, even from the male lead.

... more>> the title alliance head pretty much have no value in the story, even his followers can insults, antagonist her, or scheme openly.

and the cook... dun even mention that. it only there bcoz MC have a bit cooking skill. not much help or important in the plot tho.

The story is about a low IQ girl who works at entertainment industry transmigrated to the body of a crossdressing girl who famous for her nefarious act that supposedly died by poison. so this is a straight novel, not yaoi. <<less

From my perspective there are 2 important part to describe this unique novel,

  1. Other world Transmigration: MC was identified "herself" as straight "woman" before transmigrated to another 'historical/ancient chinese style' world where martial art is something.. You know right? AS someone else but same face as her previous world. Her brain and mind refuse to accept the situation immediately and luckily off from bad situation.
  2. Gender Bender : What is her gender before transmigrated to other world? Not clear whether she was a genuine female (chromosome XX) or a transwoman (Male at birth - XY). Author gave strange ambiguous hints which could lead to both. After transmigrated, she have male body.

This is a weird novel. It mixes gender bender, harem/back yard politics, wuxia, internet slang and cooking and is written/translated really well, but the author just fails the gender bender part. All the time the MC (who everyone should treat as a man) acts cutely like a girl, and everyone is ok with it. It would be fine if that happens after the MCs secret gets found out, but if it happens before its just creepy.

The novel is not quite clear if the MC is a girl in a boys... more>> body or not. Answer here:

MC is a girl in a girls body. No pen*s.

I really really wanted to give this novel a chance. I swear, I did. Reviews normally influcence the books that I normally read, however, I sometimes try to venture off into the wild to find those rare books that I find quite interesting despite all reviews. And, I really really really wanted this book to be that rare find.

But, despte everything, I still can't seem to like this book too much and now I'm dropping this novel half way through cause I just can't bother to go any further. The... more>> first few chapters had my attention. It wasn't all THAT funny, nor did the romance draw me into the story, but it was still readable. I still did not want to give up. But as story progressed the more draggy it began to feel. I wasn't even properly half way through and the plot had me utterly bored.

I wasn't seeing any character development, nor did it feel like the plot was going anywhere. A hundred chapters in, but I was still confused about the whole thing. I usually stick around for the romance, but even that felt bland asf.

This novel seemed promising for a few chapters but it quickly went down hill for me and I lost all interest. Maybe, sometime in the future, I will this up again. But for now, this is not my cup of tea. <<less

There should be a tragedy tag to this web novel. It’s not a happy ending! Also, the summary doesn’t match the story at all? There was barely any mention of cooking, even if there was, it was like, it didn’t even mattered.

I only made an account to review this because I felt upset after finishing it. The negative reviews are true. The plot is a mess and nothing is explained completely, even after all the chapters (there are so many chapters in comparison to other web novels). There are many... more>> plot holes and confusion throughout. But I shouldn’t have expected much since the beginning didn’t make sense.

I only kept reading because there are some funny parts, and I also assumed motives would be explained reasonably at some point and there would be answers. But even towards the end, and the ending included, another mystery was revealed.

I checked the name of the author, not because I have become a fan of his work, but because I want to avoid all his other works.

The main female lead became a comatose for five years in the end, leaving behind her dying husband, infant baby, dying master, people who almost sacrificed their life for her. Why? She felt depressed because the fourth male lead died. She didn’t even know he sacrificed his life for her, if she did, would she just died instead of falling into a coma? We’ll never know, it’s a mystery.

If your life is being threatened constantly, shouldn’t you learn to protect yourself or at least learn the basics after a couple of months into transmigration? It’s not like she didn’t have the aptitude either, she did. I just feel like the author hated her. She almost died, saved by the men, wakes up, almost died again.

the part where the real soul comes back and gives the new soul all the martial arts knowledge was just a sham... She never does anything about it... And the author is always writing about how the FL learns a bit of martial arts, but that's a sham too... She never fights, always making the guys around her do the dirty work!! That part where she caused the death of her maid was so annoying and she still didn't kill nangong Yan even though she was Bragging in her head that she could kill her.... And then nangong Yan throws her off a cliff!!!! What the hell happened there?!?! And then Bai feiyun dies and she goes into coma for 5 years?!!?! She ran all the way back to huai City for her child and then she falls into coma coz of Bai feiyun?!? And when she wakes up, no one knows who's residing in the body!!!! The ML never cures his poison, still don't understand why!! That yuner boy goes missing coz the author forgot about him

Also, that San yu girl that the author wrote that she and yuner would meet later in the guy but be strangers, goes missing too.... The Yun hai that wasn't loyal, nothing happens to him coz the almighty ML I also scared of him

The part where the author wrote that the FL would be tired of the ML coz they would be stargazing for the rest of their lives never happens

Mu ye disappears despite being a guardian

What husband leaves their wife to a rival just coz the rival is about to die... And then the husband doesn't cure his poison coz he thinks the wife would die?!!!!?!!!!!!!!👀

My hair is turning gray

the whole book was rushed at the end! The end was shitty.

Kudos to the translator but the story is annoying. ML is described as godly perfect but a blockhead for always using the FL as the bait to capture enemies? Who the hell does that. It's primarily a comedy (Keep this in mind when the plot gets wacky and the characters act crazy)

The author does a pretty good job mixing dramatic moments with comedic scenes and sprinkling it with just enough romantic tension to keep things interesting. The translation (by volare) is great: enough accuracy to keep the feel of a Chinese novel and enough flexibility to help the funny parts carry over to a different/wider audience.

Commenting on the MCs IQ would be like complaining about Mr Bean, Benny Hill or many Monty... more>> Python characters' IQ... Observational, situation, character and blue comedy isn't to everyone's taste but it's still humor.

I thought it would have comedic atmosphere because of the genre. But because the MC can't recognize her enemies because she doesn't have the memories of the previous owner of the of the body it made me feel depressed.

Seriously such a lousy story. Author build such a thick plot but left many threads without closure. Worst ending ever. I really hate Baili Yu, whilst most of the time I tend to like tsundere and scheming ML, this time there's not a single trait of Baili Yu that makes him likeable.

At least Tang Doudou wasn't OP. But, seriouly, she's quite annoying.

The Female lead is a very quirky character. She is unsure of her gender but hoping that she remains the same before transmigration, yet unlikely, and there confused. I think it's worth a read as some parts are pretty funny. I wonder if she will have any 'super' powers or moves.

Will be continuing on in the story to see the developments.
