Level 99 Villainous Daughter

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

I was reborn as the villainous daughter, Yumiela Dolknes, in the world of an otome RPG game. Yumiela only had a small role in the original story, but after defeating the Demon King, she will appear as the Hidden Boss with a bonus specs to solo fight the Hero party.

Having a gamer-spirit, I’ve been raising my level since I was a child. By the time I enter the academy where the game stage is, I was level 99.

I wanted the heroine and the capture targets to defeat the Demon King, but they just flirted around and didn’t raise their level. Moreover, they treat me as if I’m the Demon King just because I have dark hair and use dark magic.

It’s a story where I aim for peaceful days.

There's a lot to like about this series. If the premise sounds interesting to you, I'd certainly recommend it.

However, I feel like it pretty sharply falls off after the first volume. The MC is dense as hell which is charming and makes a lot of sense in the first volume, but as the series goes on it becomes increasingly exaggerated and starts to grate.

In the first volume I can totally see and believe why Yumiella and Patrick like each other and work as a couple, but as the series continues,... more>> Patrick basically just becomes a baby sitter who wrangles an unruly child as Yumiella becomes so flanderized with terminal gamer brain. The text keeps saying that they love each other, but after the first volume, they do a poor job of demonstrating it.

The series isn't trying to take itself seriously, even in the standard of its contemporaries. This is fine of course, but when the joke constantly ends up being the MC's same quirky traits, it just becomes tiring, especially when the world and plot warps around it to make it work, even when it becomes unflattering.

It's hard to explain exactly what goes wrong without spoilers. Ultimately, the later volumes take a character, setting, and premise that I love and was excited about and made me rather frustrated and tired with them by the end.

Still, the first volume is quite good and worth reading. I suspect that's where the manga and anime will focus and probably end. It's a good stopping point for the series overall that ends without any major loose ends. <<less

(The victim, Common Sense was found dead with signs of being blasted to pieces by a Love Love Gun and parts of the body Black Hole-d out of existence. The suspect, believed to be a villainess, is still at large.)

Just a heads-up, assume Common Sense-chan is dead for the entirety of the novel. From reading up to the latest chapter of the WN, I would compare this novel to Bakamille and Evil God Average.

The MC is very similar to Camille from Bakamille in that she is very dense... more>> to love (and very disappointing at love), has a one-track mind with her hobby (leveling), and lacks a sense of danger since she can bulldoze through most problems with ease.

The story is mostly comedy in her daily life with some seriousness and later romance. First and second arc deals with kingdoms and factions within. The third arc is similar to Evil God Average in how
Spoiler

she becomes involved with the Goddess of Light and God of Darkness, and her importance to the world and parallel worlds. Implications of becoming something of a god or equivalent in power.

[collapse]

The plot does gets more complicated later on with various reveals:

  • why a Demon King exists
  • why the royals and moderates are nice to the MC
  • where and what the heck are her parents doing
  • why MC is never allowed to cook.
  • why MC shouldn't Black Hole her love interest's (MY NAME IS PATRICK!) ears
  • why MC's disappointing actions will haunt her later on.
  • the importance of parallel worlds and her reincarnation into an otome game hidden boss.
... Most of which the MC doesn't really take seriously except the Demon King, so you can expect comedic undertones throughout the story. Just relax while reading and keep poking to see if Common Sense-chan is still alive. <<less

Oh boy, it has been a while since a novel/manga has piqued my interest enough for me to go and read the raws. And I have to say, so far it has been extremely enjoyable.

The "Villainess" plays a major role in why I rate this novel so highly. While being overall stoic and apathetic due to her treatment as a child, Yumiela is unlike most "shunned" main characters due to the fact that she does not hesitate to interact with other people. She often speaks her thoughts without hiding any... more>> secrets and generally takes the stance of "I know I'm disliked, but I'm just going to do my own thing anyways". Being level 99, she is a bit out of the realm of common sense, which leads to some rather comical tsukkomi-eque interactions with the supporting cast.

If I had to classify her, I would say she's similar to Claudia from I'm Not a Villainess!! Just Because I Can Control Darkness, but also has a fair share of air-headedness like Bertia or Bakarina from "Fiancée's Observation Record" and "Destruction Flags".

That being said, the novel does have its faults, primarily due to the fact that it doesn't really fall in line with your typical definition of Villainess Reincarnation. There isn't much in the way of your typical "breaking death flags" trope because the game version of Yumiela had very little impact on the original game's story, and was only made into the "Hidden Boss" as a sort of Easter Egg by the game developers. Because of this, the story is more of a "The main character is super OP" type of story as emphasized by the title. The novel's plot is pretty far removed from the "original timeline" causing the majority of the "main characters" from the game to feel underdeveloped and somewhat inconsequential to the actual plot (as weird as that sounds).

Overall, I rate this novel as a solid 4/5 due to the aforementioned flaws. If you're looking for your typical Reincarnated as the Villainess then it might not be your cup of tea, but as a not-so-serious and lighthearted romcom (?) this is definitely a good read.

Edit: Since the review above is based on reading the raws, I'll throw in a small bit regarding the English translation. Overall, I would give it a passing grade as I have not noticed any glaring mistranslated despite it being MTL. The translator could very much use the help of an editor since there are a bunch of typos /grammar mistakes. Nothing too "offensive" though, and you should be able to piece it together with little effort. That said, some of the nuance in the character's speech is lost so the story seems a bit more "flat" than I initially read from the raws; which is somewhat of a disappointment. I would still give the translation a 3 out of 5 though, it is read-able but also very plain and average. <<less

Well, I read the first arc of this history... I am a bit disappointed with the author... Do not get me wrong, the story is good and the misunderstandings really clever (in a way) but...
Spoiler

I really don't get it why it was so rushed... In the first arc (28 chaps), she is already graduated and defeated the Demon King! We complain here how awfully Japanese authors go slow-paced, this isn't the case, at least in this novel

Typical otome game rebirth caused by truck-kun...

  • brainless original protagonist (cannon fodder A)
  • brainless entourage of the original protagonist (cannon fodder B, C, D)
  • no goals (More like, her goals and her actions are hugely in conflict;
she wants nothing to do with these troublesome folks but remains in their surroundings even when all they do is cause her trouble)
  • heavily emphasis on "I" this "I" that, terrible story telling that gives me [Death March] PTSD
To be honest, my expectation for this novel will be low, the writing already sucks, so... more>> the turn over will require a lot of twist. So far it follows all Shoujo/webnovel clichés. <<less

I've read the raws up to the end of vol. 2, and, so far, the story has been an awesome mix of rom-com and action fantasy.
If I had to pick one selling point for this series, it's that the MC is one of the best dense protagonists I've ever seen.
It helps a lot that there's no harem, (the first love interest is the only one), but Yumiela's antics have a special charm to them (kind of like Bakarina). Though, as (by what we've seen so far) the... more>> MC could easily annihilate the entire planet, a lot of the jokes come from her... let's call it perspective, that, for example, allows her to see her dragon (which makes even other dragons run away in fright) as a cute pet.
There's still plenty on rom-com stuff, especially in the 2nd volume (

Overall, if you like dense OP girls, give this a read. <<less

The premise seemed interesting but this feels like a really bad character bashing fanfiction. Almost every character seems to share the same personality traits of being impossibly arrogant, s*upid and self-righteous. They only exist to insult and harass the main character so she can ignore them and then show them up. The exceptions are the 'wise' characters like the king and queen who are only there to praise the main character for how great and talented she is and apologize for all the s*upid characters that hate her. The main... more>> character also has no real personality. She shows no sadness or anger towards her mistreatment, just slight irritation and a large amount of apathy. Maybe she realizes that she deserves all of the disdain she gets merely for having played such a horribly written game all the way through in her past life.

Maybe I'm being overly harsh. This is clearly meant to be a parody on some level. That said I haven't actually seen any real jokes or humor in the story at all so far. <<less

I read the first chapter of the manga and I am intrigued! So far, it makes sense though I want to hug her to a certain level. She is rather pragmatic, and a good female lead.

By comparing the manga and the translation, you can spot several instances where the novel failed to be correctly translated. I'm not sure why everyone is praising the quality of the translation, when it's really just barely passing, to the point where it adversely affects the reading experience.

Overall, this is a fun read that gets you a bit of schadenfreude as you see OP MC trample over idiots with dignity while laughing at her occasional cluelessness.

While this novel isn't that well written, it is very easy to read. It's not too dark and violent but not all happy go lucky as well. Overall it is a nice novel if you want to pass time or want some easy to read.

Boring. That would be the best word to describe this series.

There's nothing that stands out about this series. The romance is half-assed. The jokes aren't funny. The characters are bland and seem to have the personality of a dead fish, especially the female MC who is a literal doormat despite being the strongest character in her world. 99% of the people hate or fear the MC because reasons and she still decides to clean up their messes without getting anything in return. The Heroine and her posse are a bunch... more>> of pea-brained idiots which is typical of these types of stories. The action isn't even good because the MC is OP from the start. It feels like there's no real conflict to this story so it reads like a middle-schooler's diary. No fluff, no drama, shitty family, etc. Etc.

The one redeeming part of this webnovel would be the the frequent translations. It seems that no matter how bad the ratings may get, this story at least seems like it'll be completely translated so kudos to Moon Tavern for that. I may continue reading this story as I'm a sucker for the Villainess trope, so if anything changes I'll update this review but expectations are as low as my standards. At most, I'll only be wasting 5 minutes a week reading this anyway. <<less

f*cking hilarious

The best way to read this novel is by agreeing on one thing: the entire thing relies on cartoon logic

That's all you need to deal with. Once you realize the whole thing has cartoon logic, everything becomes a lot more entertaining, aside from the pretty dark part at the end of volume 1

The great thing about this generic isekai otome game theme is that the protagonist doesn't even attempt to correct the story. Her original appearance doesn't have the generic "engagement with duchess annulled, countess is my new best... more>> fiancee" theme, she's just supposed to fight the "hero" and thus she's not trying to avoid death, she's not supposed to die in the first place

Thus, she embraces her role as an OP person and goes off living a normal life. She doesn't look at things from "oh this is how the event is supposed to go" lens. Her only goal is defeating the Demon King, and she herself being the OP person that she is was capable of doing so, thus she doesn't particularly care about the heroes, this gives space for cartoon shenanigans which is infinitely more entertaining

Great read when you just need to turn off your brain <<less

When I read this novel, this series has the same problem that Sword Art Online had in the beginning.

What problem? The author wrote a complete story in the first novel, it got success and having to write a sequel, he/she had difficulties of continuing the story and making interesting as the first novel.

Spoiler

In the first volume, Yumiela have defeated the Demon Lord, got that bit*h girl killed, clean up her reputation and got together with the male lead. Every plot that happens after that is uninteressing and boring, except for the development of the relationship between Yumiela and Patrick.

I don't have much fun reading this.

However, the story just not enjoyable.

Somehow I felt most of the event come up without much of reasoning and not much of prior built up.

For example the prince was blindly put demon king hat on the MC without caring about information from the king, his father. But some how change the direction in 1 chapter and say sorry to MC cause a friend told him so.

Loved it. The first volume's translation is not so consistent in some places and there are timeskips, which makes it harder to understand, but overall it was a really enjoyable read.

There is no deep story here, it is rather wholesome and funny so I recommend you to give it a try!

I read a little bit of the manga and the novel, and frankly speaking, both are pretty bad in their own right. Well, manga adaptions from novels are always a bit shaky, so I won't really comment on the manga.

You know it, I know it, the entire world knows of the "transmigrated to otome novel" trope that novels love to use. Does this novel stand out from all of its competition? Absolutely not. The novel is set in a first person perspective with lots of monologue, but rather than finding... more>> some personality within the MC and some of her reaction to dialogue and other characters, I find myself looking at more of a "action/event log" than anything else. Things that can get glossed over WILL get glossed over, and everything is done at a breakneck pace. You get few sentence descriptions of everything. You'd think that anything would get more attention, but no, not really. There's a lack of detail, and in a novel filled with tropes and cliches, this lack of detail just kills it.

The MC is a robot doll that does actions, and you really don't get to grasp anything about her personality (or as much as you should). Every other character gets even less attention. Settings, character relationships, hardships, dialogue. They're all shallow and not well developed. Nothing much else to say <<less

The writing is pretty bad. Maybe it's just the translation? All the characters are super flat. There's no story. It's just a day to day diary of how a nuclear weapon deals with being treated as a pawn and even that is flat.

Even the OPness, which is usually the main draw of these types of novels is not noteworthy. She just instakills, people get shocked, end. All in just 3 lines, every time. This is like the epitome of "strong characters make weak story". She doesn't even hide it for... more>> comedic effect.

However, there are chapters show some growth and personality for the MC, even if it's short. There's some potential here. Definitely It's the most interesting parts are learning how the world/timeline changed when the MC became lvl99. I'll say the weak writing is due to just being the first volume/arc. <<less

I come from watching the anime and I must say I have difficulties reading the light novel translation. The meaning of some sentences got distorted in some sentences and the translation just doesn't flow.

If a sentence in the anime is "Yuka is hungry, as she didn't have breakfast. For this reason she is grumpy today." then it is "Yuka is hungry. Yuka didn't have breakfast. She is grumpy." in the LN translation. It just doesn't read as well. Too exaggarate it is like watching a play from Shakespeare, but all... more>> actors are elementary school students. <<less
